Rare to Find This One Used on Amazon - As of April 2006 (4 years after release).......2006-04-14

I give this one a solid 4.5 stars but that rounds up to 5 stars in whole numbers. If you are a Racer X fan, a Paul Gilbert fan, a half-way decent guitarist or aspire to be one....get this one!!!! And...good luck finding this one USED on Amazon as of April 2006 (nearly 4 years after release). As of April 2006, you don't see a FLOOD of used copies as typical of most CDs listed on Amazon. I only counted one USED listing as of today and the rest are listed as BRAND NEW. So that ought to tell you something!!!! If this CD were so bad you would see a ton of USED copies listed, but 4 years after release you don't!!!! I suspect some of the reviewers that gave this CD a low rating may be pissed off that they could not get a USED copy and paid the FULL $17 new price....some may have given the CD one listen and were just looking for something to vent about. This CD has riffs and solos galore, vocals-bass-drums are tight, production is excellent. You know that Paul Gilbert has awesome solos but if you want to learn killer guitar riffs, check this CD out...lots of variety. Attention guitarists.....study Paul Gilbert's riffs as well as his solos and you WILL become a better guitarist. My absolute FAVORITES are:

Bucket of Rocks - 10/10
Go-GG-Go - 10/10
Empty Man - 10/10

Close runner ups are Lucifer's Hammer, Golden God, Ghost Dance, The Siren's Eye, and Endless....basically the whole CD is great work from my perspective.

I know the $17 new copy price is a little high but grab one and check it out or good luck finding a USED copy. Get this CD anyway you can.....I bit the bullet and got a new CD and was not disappointed. I listen to the CD often and study Paul Gilbert's riffs and Racer X's approach to song structure in general. I'm a guitarist and student of the trade and I'm very greatful for Racer X's production of this fine CD as it provides a wealth of ideas and opportunities for me to grow as a guitarist. Anyway, enough about me and my aspirations. Get this CD and if you don't like it send me an e:mail and I'll buy your copy. I'm looking for a back-up USED copy to keep around at work and another in my car. Thanks for reading....I hope this review helps and provides an alternative perspective.

A Paul Gilbert Teaser!.......2004-12-03

This is not Racer X! This is Paul Gilbert going off on one of his tangents and as all too often with the man this does not work!
I give it two stars only because you can hear Racer X in this mess somewhere for a few seconds every song or two.

For me it is crap!

Put on "Superheroes" and then throw on "Getting Heavier". Worlds apart!

This album rocks.. How can anyone that has ever listened to this band faithfully through the years say it doesn't??
Dr.X smokes.. Bucket of Rocks. Heaven in 74 isn't typical of their stuff but it absolutely gets to the fact of the matter that these guys are the best....

I hate this album, the songs are shoddy, the guitaring is boring to listen to and overall a load of crap.

as much as i like speed-metal and this band, i cannot recommend this cd to anyone...95% of it sounds like bad Metallica...very uninspired..with the 2 previous recordings (Technical Difficulties and Superheroes) you would think that this would be the complete classic Racer X...not so! 2 great tracks (60-66-60 and catapult to extinction) does not a complete cd make...Paul Gilbert is an amazing guitar player, but maybe the hype has just caught up with him, meaning that he puts out fragments of brilliance and just expects you to buy it..not me and neither should you..Racer X - R.I.P.

Getting Heavier-No Joke.......2003-03-08

Ah Racer X. 'Tis the kings of rock. Man, I love these guys. Heavy Metal to their bones. And this album is no Exception. Getting Heavier is an awesome aray of pure musical Genius. This is the album where singer Jeff Martin shines. His singing is incredible. Scott Travis' drum playing is as masterful as ever. John Alderete's fuzz bass is awesome. And of course, Paul Gilbert's solos are amazing. This album is Racer X at their musical best. And although some will argue the album is more "radio friendly" than "headbanging", it doesn't matter, because this album as everything for every musical taste. Even my Mom likes it!!!

Racer X, They're Rock!!.......2003-01-30

I bought Racer X limited edition with 2 bonus CD. Expensive but its will be very cool colection and awesome music on it. There's some good song like "Heaven IN '74" and "The Siren's Eyes" ( remembering me to Mr. Big tunes-Whole World Gonna Now?) or "Endless" and "Catapult To Extinction". Anyway, this recording is not have big different with two Racer X last recorded "Technical Dificulties" and "Superheroes". Paul Gilbert still proved he is a super-guitar heroes!

Btw,the 2 bonus disc is excellent. you we'll miss it if you don;t have that one. I heard its just released 30000 copies only. If you Racer X die hard, you will know what you have to do....Racer X Rule!!!
