early 80's sabbath clone doom band .......2006-04-08

too much sab influence for them to be original, but still very good if you like sab doom. The singer sounds more like John Gallager of the early 80's metal band Raven (before they sold out in the mid 80's), mixed in with a bit of Todd Rundgren (especially when he was in The Nazz). I kind of picture this as early Sabbath mixed with early Raven played slowly.

these guys apparently missed the Ozzy years of black sabbath and decided to fill the gap loooonnnng before the likes of Cathedral began the Sabbath worship that is more or less a genre unto itself...
compared to metal nowadays,most of this will sound dated and somewhat simple,but dont let that scare you off!!most of the NWOBHM bands sound dated now,but you have to give 'em credit for contributing to that glorious punk influenced "do-it-yourself" noise racket!!

Sabbath lovers delight.......2003-02-20

This is a great and unique album. Very heavy and melodic, similar to Sabbath's album Technical Ecstasy. Geat guitar riffs and very unique straight ahead vocals. Requiem of Youth and Love on Smack are classics in my book. Quietus is the best tune on the album, very early Sabbath like, nice jam at the end. Overall I would rank this album as one of the best early 80's NWBHM releases. Sadly the best Witchfinder General song, Soviet Invation is not avaiable on CD, only on rare ep vinyl.

One of the best of the NWOBHM bands..........2002-07-31

This album is basicly doom metal, and is VERY Black Sabbath sounding, without sounding like Black Sabbath. If you shut your eyes and Ozzy was singing it would be pretty close.

If you're a fan of the mighty Sabbath or any of the doom bands like Trouble, Mannhai, St. Vitus, ect... I think you might really dig this. It sounds very 70s/80s, but not really dated. Well, the guitar tone is a bit dated, and you won't hear anybody singing like Zeeb does anymore, lol.

Overall, it's a very good disc, with maybe 2 tracks I would consider filler, such as I Lost You, and Music. They're kinda cool, but don't really fit in with the rest of the disc.

I've been listening to these guys since the early 80s when they first came out. Good stuff. The cover is STILL not PC though, but not near as shocking as it was in 1983. 3 chicks on the front, and 2 on the back, are pretty much not wearing all the clothes they should be, lol.

nwobhm......sabbath worshippers.......2001-03-13

one of the best of the nwobhm acts.slow doom metal with a great metal edge.love on smack kicks it off with some of the best riffs.the title track my fav on this release.if you like the sabbath sounding bands of the early 80s lay down the cash and pick this one up

Great, but no prize.......2002-03-31

The selections from the Ring trilogy, Friends in need and Fallen Angel were excellent, however, some of the special request such as joxer the mighty, seemed a little bit rushed. Wasn't that song on Volume 2 already? Where was M'Lila's song from Destiny, or the music played During the first Kiss in "The Quest"
The cd has its good points, personally "It's Over" from "THAB" with its haunting melodies portraying the consequences of war.

I am so happy that the last and final cd has come out, now my collection is complete. I am very sad for the show ending, but I am glad to still collect things.

Well, I have them all by now, but this last one is a great collection, with the added bonus of the music from A Friend In Need.

I am a fanatic and devoted Xenite.I have a huge problem:i can't stop listening to that cd,since the first time i listened to it,which means 1 month!That cd is really exceptional and i think that every true and genuine Xenite should buy it!It's really good!I was moved when i heard the Fallen Angel part.I was passioned when i heard the Ring Trilogy!I was astonishing when i heard the bonus cues that were included,especially the cue from The Quill Is Mightier(fishin part),oh,i was completely satisfied!
Though,there is a complain:i can't understand,why after 6 cd's,the producers don't do a cd including cues like:M'laila's song,the cues from the Bacchaen festival,music from Deja Vou All Over Again,where in the end,Gabrielle says to Xena those wonderful words,or even the scene of the kiss in The Quest!That,i can't understand it!
Last, i believe that whoever likes LoDuca's music style,should buy this cd.
Pay attention to the 22 cue:Pas De Deux Femmes.It is one of a something and whoever remembers what's the scene of this song,will agree with me!Mmmm!

A MIX OF THE BEST, THE WORST AND THE MISSING.......2001-11-29

To all truly Xena fans this CD is a must-have but have some lacks... Fun (comedy episodes music) scores destroy the the great combination of FALLEN ANGEL, THE RHEINGOLD TRILOGY AND I FRIEND IN NEED. In the first selections LoDuca creates spectacular high level music good enough to be played in a Symphony orchestra concert. The others selections have easy-to-fill-space western cowboy music instead of put M'Lilas song of DESTINY, Amazon's climbing trees of ADVENTURES IN THE SIN TRADE and NAJARA vs XENA music that would be gladly accepted by us. I doubt the company will launch a next CD but if they'll do this track and another valuable more must be there and the adittion of some famous characters quotes like "I have many skills" from Xena.

Jaw dropping.......2006-04-18

This isn't your Nashville garden variety sugary what a prefect life I have music. If you want music about that look elsewhere. If you want the raw, the real the honest, the soul filled music get a copy of this cd. Billy Don Burns is amazing. His skillful songwriting and vocals is second to none.
Here is a tiny peak at this masterful lyrics

"His silhouette stands against the wall, The shadow of a man who lost it all. It helps conceal the pain, He rides though the night down a lost highway through a hole he made in is vein ,
to a plastic place where desperate dies on a dirty street called shame? From "The Dark Side of The spoon"

Or "She'd go screamin cross the plains of my soul like a train runnin wild. From "Sailin Down the Nile"

He is kind of a Waylon sings David Allen Coe.

The majority of the songs are stripped down . It sounds like it was done live in the studio without those nasty overdubs that robs the music of it's soul.
The only song that get tuned up at the end of "Runnin Drugs out of Mexico" but the song calls for it
He pays tribute to his heroes
Pasty Cline, Haggard, Keith Whitley, Johnny Cash and Hank Sr.

Pasty a duet with Willie Nelson who also plays guitar as well. Which is obvious to the listner

His cover of the Cash classic "Give My Love To Rose" is filled with emotion. His 1997 cd knocked Cash (his hero) out the number one spot on the Amreicana charts.

I've been on the net for almost 10 years I've found alot of indy artists but Billy Don is hands down the best I've ever heard.

Meanest bad-ass of the Outlaws.......2005-08-10

Woa! This guy's one piece of work. Billy's had a long history of friendships with Nashville, and Texas' baddest hombres (Kristofferson, Haggard, Paycheck, Cash, Jones, etc), but his music was never released until a few of years ago. I'm mighty grateful I've discovered this guy. This is what real outlaw country music stands for. This guy is so brutally honest that there's no chance you'll hear this on mainstream anything. He duets with Tanya Tucker, and Willie Nelson on this, his fourth release (only two are available), but he's twice as gritty as anyone out there today. There's no comparisons. He sings of addiction, drug smuggling, love gone wrong, and Patsy Cline; what more can you ask for? He also produced an album by Paycheck that was recorded when Johnny was in the "Pen" some years ago, but that's never seen the light of day.......yet. That story is pretty amazing.
