Album Description
Mr. Big was a hard rock group from San Francisco featuring bassist Billy Sheehan & lead vocalist Eric Martin. they have issued numerous successful albums through the 1990's. One album that was only issued as a hard-to-find Japanese import is "Actual Size". It was recorded in 2001.
Customer Reviews:
This album rocks.......2006-12-29
This album is straight ahead hard, sorta pop rock. Yes, a standard run of the mill review, but it's Eric Martin's unique voice that will grab you. Newer guitarist Richie Kotzen is surprisingly good. Definitely their best since 1993's Bump Ahead (BA would have been better with a better mix). Richie Zito (The Cult) probably had a lot to do with this album being well produced.

Album Description
San Francisco's I Am Spoonbender return to GSL with three all-new tracks of post-futuristic proto-reality for the new-new-wave generation. While the group's 1998 debut, Sender/Receiver, remains a favorite amongst loyal GSL die-hards, Spoonbender's touring in support of the faint has introduced them to an eager, younger audience, while their expanded lineup has basically reinvented the group's aesthetic. Largely unfamiliar with their earlier work and undeniable place amongst cerebral audio deconstructionists such as This Heat and Zoviet France, the 'kids' will likely be anticipating a synth-buzzing, overcharged dose of digital-analog dance mayhem. That's exactly what they'll get. Cover art courtesy of the legendary UK design firm Hipgnosis, whose work for Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, and Peter Gabriel is arguably the best rock-related art ever produced. Gold Standard. 2002.

I Am Spoonbender walk all over the new new wave pretenders.......2002-11-30
So much more going on than what is happening in ANY of the fields this band happens to touch upon: metal (NEUROSIS' bass player is on this!), postpunk, pop, laurie anderson-esque commentary and innovation, and with trippy yet sharp lyrics...!
complex music masquerading as futurist art-pop. Don't make the mistake of lumping them in with.. uh- anyone. five stars.
Awesime...hope another LP is coming soon.......2002-11-18
I just picked this record up, and it's great ! It's more new wave than sender/reciever...it actually reminded of a prettier, catchier adult....ooh, I have nothing else to say...

Actual Size Ain't Much.......2000-06-01
Peggy Stern plays piano and leads a septet with trumpet-trombone-tenor front men. All compositions are original. Recording is OK, but not great. Players are competent, but not great. Tunes are a little hard to get your arms around, but they kind of grow on you. The best you can say of this album is that it works hard to break new ground. The tunes are worth listening to, the arrangements are different (although not all that good), but I tired of trying to find anything real likable about the sessions.

Customer Reviews:
Not their best album period, but..........2006-10-29
It IS the best album with Kotzen, who still isn't better than Paul Gilbert, and at least this album's better than the atrocity of an album called "Get Over It". It's worth a listen.
The Best Yet..........2005-05-02
I have been a fan of MR. Big since the Lean Into Album 1991 and I have enjoyed all the albums that they have released. The one album that I have not been able to stop playing is 'Actual Size' This stand out album has not one bad track on it. The inclusion of new guitarist Richie Kotzen (also performed on the 'Get Over It' Album) has really taken the band to another level. When listening to this album it is evident they were an awsome talent. Sadly it ended all too soon as I really believe that there was so much more left for Mr. Big. We may never know what they could have achieved with the final line up. If you really want to buy a great CD then MR. Big 'Actual Size' is worth the import cost. The only requirement when listening to this great album is to play it LOUD.
"Stuck in the 80s".......2002-04-10
Why Mr. Big got back together in 1999 after their well-publicized break-up four years ago we'll never know. Wait a minute, we do know: Money. Yet again the tired, repetitive band have come back to put out another album to cash in on the 80's nostalgia craze that has gripped hundreds of 30-somethings around the world. The difference is that most bands coming back were once first-rate, these guys were always terrible. Opening with the Japanese no. 1 "Lost in America", Mr. Big reuse the same riffs we heard ten years ago on "To be with you" - not that the track was any good back then either. It's followed by "Wake Up": the `high school rebel' song that was required back in the heavy metal days, using the classic metal lyric formula: starting off slow with a story that kicks into the repetitive chorus line, followed by more of the story, then a high strung lead vocal solo, then a lead guitarist solo, more of the story and finishing off with the chorus - wake us up when its over please. All the other songs seem to use exactly the same procedure, except for the moderately interesting "Suffocation", which, while still pretty bad, is probably the best track on the CD, using some 70's guitar sounds combined with hardly any singing from the lead performer Eric Martin (a good thing actually). In the end though, Mr. Big will be nothing more then a band that's stuck in the 80's - but at least some of them got haircuts
Mr. Big do it better this time.......2002-01-01
Much improved over "Get Over It" "SHINE" is so catchy, it's what a pop-rock song should be. The cd is worth it, just for this song, it just makes you feel happy. "Mary Goes Round" has a catchy drum riff to it, "Crawl Over Me", screams rock-n-roll, James Brown funk on "Suffocation", with a great duel vocal lead by Ritchie Kotzen. "Wake Up" a good rocker, this and "Lost In America" should hit home as the anthem of the events of 9/11. "I Do'nt Want To Be Happy" is smooth-silky meloncholy with a twist in the wording. Too bad this just might be their last studio recording, due to internal strife within the band. It's a shame these are only available in Japan. Everyone else wants to see the promotion/tour in other countries. This is the rarity with the bonus track "Deep Dark Secret" that is so sought after, and hard to find.
Wake Up America!.......2001-11-03
Mr. Big's new album Actual Size is one of the best releases of 2001. It is much better than Get Over It and comparable to their greatest effort so far Lean Into It. This time around they regained pop rock edge and every track is crisp and familiar yet
their gut R&B taste remains. Wake Up, Shine, Arrow and I Don't Want To Be Happy will be sure-fire radio hits. It is hard to believe such finest part of American rock is not accepted by
large number of music fans at home. Recommended for wide range of rock fans who favor Bon Jovi or Firehouse.

SCHLOCK.......2004-02-04
I'm sorting through a bunch of old radio station CDs....to decide what goes in the Dozen for Five Bucks bin at the flea market. I was kind of excited to see Five Stars come up (before I threw this peice of schlock in the carriage).
What do you other reveiwers LISTEN to???? I can't remember any of these songs WHILE THEY ARE PLAYING. If I see you at the flea market and you freak out when you find it and start to palpitate and everything, it's yours- GRATIS.
Just Amazing.......2001-04-26
As stated bellow this is a very mature sophomore set from Muzzle. It's great fast power chord rock that drives very well down I35. If you're looking for some clean rock this would be a great selection. Oh and the picture on the front is a little girl holding an ice cream cone, not something much less pleasant.
Buy this album.......1999-07-09
I bought this album because a freind reccomended it to me. Normally I listen to pop punk and my friend listens to classic rock so I didn't expect much but what I got was the possibly the best album I have ever heard. I didn't know it was possible to make music this great. Every guitar solo on this album is absoluteley incredable. I can't bevieve this band isn't at the top of the charts I mean being on a major label and all. this band can't really fit in any genre of music but if you like any kind of music perticularly any kind of rock'n'roll I garontee you will love this album. This album reaches way back to rock'n'rolls roots and takes the very best qualities from every type of music, while still adding countless inovations of there own. This album takes the very best from every genre without the bad. if it is possible this album is perfect
heck I don't think there are enough stars in the universe.......1999-07-07
THIS IS THE BEST ALBUM I HAVE EVER HEARD. FROM BEGINNING TO END THIS ALBUM IS INCREDIBLE. THIS ALBUM DEFINES ROCK'N'ROLL FOR ME. I SEE THIS BAND HITTING IT BIG AND FOREVER CHANGING ROCK'N'ROLL.
Great combination of pop and rock. A mature second effort........1999-03-31
A combination of toe-tapping pop tracks like "Obvious," "Been Hurt," and "Broken Tooth," temper some of the solid rock tracks that drive the album. "Complicated," "Drop the Needle," and "(A Song for) Super Clones of the Future," are great rock tracks that show mature writing and a great sense of how to make a rock song. "Drop..." is an apparently quasi-mocking butt rock tune that is also part homage to growing up to 70's guitar rock. This album is full of songs that you catch yourself singing on the way to work and humming in the shower. The album ends on an appropriate wind-down with the balladic "Thanks to You." Best tracks: "Complicated," "Obvious," "Broken Tooth," "Super Clones...," "Drop the Needle."

Album Description
Alternative country rock in the best of the west coast singer-songwriter tradition. Singer-songwriter Peter Bolland sounds a bit like Neil Young, James Taylor and Tom Petty kicked off the back of a flatbed truck on a dirt road outside of Bakersfield. A little bruised, a little regretful, more thoughtful than angry, but some of both. Acoustic guitars chiming like bells, kick drums thumping like hearts, snare drums cracking like gunshots, lap steel guitars crying like motherless babies, harmonica's wailing like humpback whales on peyote, and Gram Parsons-Emmylou Harris harmonies all provide a vivid aural landscape for Bolland's mournful tales of life and love in the American field of dreams. Too rock to be Americana, to country to be rock, and not country enough for country, it seems alternative country rock is the best category for "Frame".
Customer Reviews:
A must in a collection!.......2003-05-31
Over the years, the singer songwriter's had not been too visable. But recently this has changed with with the likes of Gillian Welsh,Eric Bibb,Tracy Chapman,Patty Griffen and so on.However,I do think there was a different quality in the likes of Dylan,Simon,Joni Mitchell,Armatrading,Neil Young,Leonard Cohen,Janis Ian.You get the idea. But this new album from this American in California is honest and beautiful and fun to listen to on a Sunday drive in the U.K. or the U.S. or anywhere.I here the comparisons of the Eagles or Neil Young. That would be a complement to a point.Mr. Bolland is more than oversimplified comparisons.Everyone who likes good American Rock,Country and Folk, should get this bloody good music and wait anxiously for his next gem.
Jules Mardin
Beautiful Stories - Elegantly Simple.......2003-03-25
I've been waiting for a record JUST LIKE THIS! Songs that weave beautiful tales that remind you of feelings you once had or feelings that you hope to have someday. The guitar work is brilliant, elegant, simple, clean, and so refreshing. I recommend this record to anyone who is interested in listening to music that is real; music that stirs the soul; music that refreshes the mind and spirit. Mr. Bolland is a wonderful storyteller in the true American Folk spirit. I look forward to his next musical endeavor. But until then, I will continue to thoroughly enjoy "Frame".
