Decent, but not noteworthy hard rock band.......2006-07-06

Sweet F.A. was another in a long list of hard rock/hair metal bands that got lost in the shuffle during the late 80's and early 90's. For some reason, MCA Records seemed to sign this kind of band left and right, release one album, fail to promote it, and then cut them loose. A lot of bands fell by the wayside as a result. Some were really good and some were merely average. Sweet F.A. probably falls into the second category.

The sound on the band's 1989 debut Stick To Your Guns is somewhere between L.A. Guns and Warrant, with some Tangier-like Southern elements thrown into the mix. They had plenty of swagger, and more than a little sleaze, but nothing that really made them stand out from the rest of the pack. They basically served up your standard collection of barroom rockers about women and whiskey. I happen to enjoy my fair share of that kind of music, so I was happy to add this album to my collection. Still, I can see how this band never quite hit the big time.

This cd is so forgetable that even in the days when Hair Metal was the only thing I listened to, I didn't listen to the entire CD. I liked the song Heart of Gold and would pop the disc in for the length of time it took to play it, then out it went again.

Sweet F.A. were a killer band. Had a great sound. Late 80's, early90's, hard rock, with a danceable groove. If they would have come out a little sooner they would have went farther. "Breaking the Law", "Prince of the City", "Whisky River", and "Women" were striaght out rockers. Along with the power ballad "Stick to Your Guns"and the more southern rock/metal feel of "Souther Comfort". "Daily Grind", is a must for the strip clubs.Not a bad song on this CD from start to finish.

Their second CD, "Temptation" was killer too. But a little bluesier. An all around great sounding band. Too bad they upset a few people in the biz while starting out. They got a bad rep. with some of the bands that have talked about them in the past.
