Customer Reviews:
Steinman's Musical Genius.......2006-12-18
Steinman is a songwriting genius, and again he gets the chance to prove it on this album. Part of the songs used for Meat Loaf's 'Bat Out Of Hell II' album started here, as tracks for Pandora's Box, songs such as 'Good Girls Go To Heaven' & 'It Just Won't Quit'. My personal favorite on this album, however, is 'Safe Sex', a song that has not been covered by anyone else as far as I know. The songs included here that are not written by Steinman are simply filler, and don't hold the same granduer as do the others, but almost every other track is magic, the kind that only Steinman can write. If you're a fan of Steinman, Meat Loaf, or even Celine Dion (who covered the song 'It's All Coming Back To Me Now') I would recommend you give this one a chance, it is worth it.
Jim Steinman at his Best.......2006-10-02
I have yet to be let down by the musical talents of Jim Steinman. When he created Pandora's Box, he set himself apart from every other composer in rock and classical history.
As in many of Steinman's projects, he loves the use of 4 part vocal harmonies, against either a lush and beautiful background of piano and strings, such as in Safe Sex and The Future Ain't What It Used To Be, or against an up-beat, almost metal-like, sound of epic proportions, such as in Good Girls and Original Sin. Also in this album, you hear fragments of his orchestral ideas and theatrical monolouges. From the first word in the Invocation to the final barber-shop style vocal ending, this album will keep you asking for more. Like an anthem, you just can't hear enough of it.
Angelic and Demonic!.......2006-04-09
That's how this album sounds. Jim Steinman is a musical genius--and ironically, pretty much unknown only because he allows other artists to perform most of his songs. Mozart and Beethoven have nothing on Steinman.
Buy this album, you won't regret it.
Note to Jim Steinman: let Holly Sherwood and Rory Dodd sing all of your songs with you as a trio. That would make my day.
A CLASSIC!!!!!!.......2005-04-04
I absolutely love this CD - I had been a J.S. fan for years and had not heard of it until about 3 years ago and after a bit of searching I found it here on Amazon. It was a bit pricey at the time but I had to have it. And then it stayed in my CD player for at least 6 months!!!
ORIGINAL SIN {covered by both Meatloaf & Taylor Dayne} - any covers you may have heard are NOTHING compared to this version. There are not enough adjectives to describe it.
That can be said for the rest of the tracks but ESPECIALLY the song - THE FUTURE AIN'T WHAT IT USED TO BE - Melodic, operatic, grand in scope and focus, sheer perfection, and it leaves you haunted long after you've heard it. I'm getting chills as I type this just thinking about that song.
You owe it to yourself to buy this CD ASAP. Just hit "one click" and then prepare to be blown away!!!
A Must for Steinman fans.......2005-01-05
Original Sin is a must for any fan of Steinman's music, because it contains tracks that we've heard covered, but whose originals rock harder. (I can't believe I just wrote that, but it's true.) If you're a fan of Jim's musical Tanz der Vampire (not the Crawford-infected Broadway version) this also gives insight into the genesis of that show.
The title track is now my favorite Steinman song, and my theme as I search for a dissertation topic. It is THE reason to own this recording.
"Good Girls go to Heaven" and "It Just Won't Quit" have been covered by Meat Loaf, but are better here. I think they mellowed by the time Meat sang them.
"It's all Coming Back to Me Now" is a song I detest when Celine Dion sings it, but this recording has redeemed the song and converted me.
Go ahead and skip the covers of non-Steinman stuff on this album, "Twentieth Century Fox" and "Little Red Book." They accomplish nothing.
And last but not least, I worship Roy Bittan on piano, from his work on Steinman albums alone. Listen to "Pray Lewd" (say it aloud to get the joke) and you will understand why.

Erasmus Hall Doo-Woppers.......2007-04-28
I went to Erasmus Hall High School with Kenny Vance. He led the boy's group of singers and I led a girl's. We sang in those wonderful resonant old marble hallways inbetween classes, going from one to the other. How fortunate we were to be there at the beginning of the Doo Wop and Rock & Roll eras! One of our classmates was Bobby Fischer, the chess genius, and another one was Barbra Streisand. They were probably the two oddest pupils in the school. Check out "Her Name is Barbra" by Randall Riese, paperback version, pgs.42-43. The OTHER Barbara
A Religous Experience.......2006-12-20
This is a religious experience! These guys are Doo-Wop saints. They sing Doo-Wop hymns. They capture it all - the sound and their story - the story of their time - 1955+.
I have not enjoyed a record this much in a very long time.
Found my Echo.......2006-11-04
I like doo wop music. I grew up with it and it really touches my heart. This CD takes me through so many of my life experiences. The group, Kenny and all the rest are like dear, close, loving friends. Their music is superb. I will buy more of their CDs. I hope they never stop their marvelous work.
FANTASTIC, WONDERFUL,.......2006-09-26
This CD is a breath of fresh air. I would Recommend it to all my friends. These guys are fantastic. It brings back memories of a simple and fun life here in America. Can't wait to get the DVD. I love all the songs, but one especially, Looking for an Echo. The CD should be a 10 stars instead of 5.
5 stars for "Looking for an Echo-cd" 1 star for Amazon's customer service.......2006-06-27
I ordered this item on 6/7/06 for my dad as a gift for Father's Day. He LOVES it. I also ordered the vhs and dvd so he can watch it anywhere. The vhs showed up right away since that was from an outside vendor. The cd got here just in time (6/15/06) since I changed my shipping method. The dvd order however, has been hanging in limbo. First I wasn't even informed of the delay until I logged on the week before father's day. Then, I realized what was up and split the order so the cd would get here on time. Had to pay extra shipping charges for this. Have contacted Amazon several times in an attempt to get credited for this since they never notified me of this delay to begin with. Have heard nothing back from them. While I'm pleased with the gift, I am not so pleased with Amazon's customer service related to this order.

Set in dark, slickened streets and populated by a stellar ensemble cast, this adaptation of Frank Miller's hard-edged, film noir inspired graphic novels plays like comic-book-come-to-lifenot surprising, as Miller is credited as Robert Rodriguez's co-director (with a bit of help from Quentin Tarantino). The soundtrack to this bleak, compelling exercise in pure noir stylism is provided mostly by director Rodriguez, with an occasional assist from past collaborators John Debney (Spy Kids and its sequel) and Graeme Revell (From Dusk Til Dawn). While their largely synth-driven cues tend naturally towards brooding atmospheric soundscapes, their tense electro-rhythms are seasoned with bracing doses of sinewy, sensual sax and dotted with the occasional bongo flourish, details that musically evoke both a shadowy humanity and the film's genre-savvy roots. Also featuring disparate, yet wholly integrated contributions from techno-house savants Fluke (the hypnotic "Absurd") and 20th century Mexican classicist Silvestre Revueltas, it's the sinister flipside to the future-jazz sheen of Vangelis' classic Blade Runner.--Jerry McCulley

trailer music.......2006-08-06
i listened to the servant song and i know everyone said its pretty well known that that is the song they used in the trailer, but if you listen to "broken chairs" by built to spill it really sounds like parts of the trailer music too. and its also a good song. so i would recommend trying that as well!
Great!.......2006-01-17
Now, i loved the movie, but the soundtrack blew me away! all the songs fit the movie perfectly. However, it is missing the instrumental version of "Cells" by the Servants, which plays on the DVD title menu
so, here you go:

sin city.......2005-09-30
Is a very good soundtrack because i think that Robert Rodriguez has made a great choice with the composers and his own musical composition

While the previous reviwer was correct that Cells the trailer song is not on the soundtrack, Servant did indeed create an instrumental version and you can obtain it at this link follow the instructions it is at the Servant website so its legal and its for a limited time only!

Your Welcome ;)
An addendum to "FangsFirst" comment.......2005-09-16
FangsFirst is absoluty correct -- trailer music is almost never on the movie's soundtrack. An interesting additional bit of trivia, however; almost all trailer themes ARE from a movie soundtrack, just from a DIFFERENT movie than the one the trailer is for!
So if you're looking for "Cells" by The Servant (the song from the Sin City trailer), take a look at the soundtrack to Transporter 2. You'll find it along with another song by The Servant. "Cells" does have lyrics to it (which aren't on the Sin City trailer), but it's still a damned good song.
Just thought I'd share that with everybody.

I can't even begin to tell you how much he meant to me. Every single day I regret not telling him that he was the person that made me realize this world isn't what we are shown - it's what we see.
This album marks a time when life and death were never as mangled.
vampire music for vampires who know how to rock.......1999-10-13
(10-12-99)If you like shoegazer, avail, or fugazi you will probably like this band. give a listen to their first release as well, it will definately hook you. I'm looking forward to their future release.
One great record from Philly.......1999-05-03
This is a great album...there best to date. It is one of my most favorite album's next to Botch-American Nervoso
The Most Innovative Hardcore Band Today.......1999-03-26
Fine Art is an incredible record; one of only two hardcore records from the last two years worth buying (the other being Coalesce's Give 'Em Rope). Ink and Dagger's sound has gone from Swiz-like to something quite undefinable. From start to finish each song takes twists and turns, starts and stops, so many tempo changes you'd think the drummer's legs would break, and every second is a thrill. Some songs are reminiscent of Black Sabbath, others of their earlier 7"s, and still others are a new mix of hardcore and DJ beats. Ink and Dagger is dedicated to taking hardcore to new ground, and this record fully exemplifies their innovativeness.
Good Debut Full Length.......1999-01-28
I was a bit disappointed with the vampire imagery less apparent, but this first full length still rocks. The band shows a lot of musical progression since their first couple seven inches, and this seems to expand on "The Experiments in Nocturnal Sound and Energy" 7" as well. Ink & Dagger still prove to be leaders in this genre as well as surprisingly good musicians as well. They keep up with the rocking abstract hardcore punk while adding a techno remix or something as well. Really cool and very innovative. Best of all, they are from Philadelphia! Overall, a great record!

Not Perfect - but a Different Compilation.......2007-02-11
The period between the untimely death of Inxs' Michael Hutchence (in late 1997) and the addition of J.D. Fortune as Inxs' new lead vocalist (in late 2005) put Inxs into a "holding pattern". While Inxs flirted with several vocalists to temporarily provide lead vocals (Jimmy Barnes, Terence Trent D'Arby, and Jon Stevens), for all practical purposes there was little in the way of new material being released from the band and there were certainly no albums. However Inxs did not disband, so as a result relied on compilation albums to keep the momentum going. There were three compilation albums that were released during this time, 2001's anthology-styled "Shine Like It Does", 2002's traditional greatest hits collection, "The Best of Inxs", and 2004's "Original Sin: The Collection". Of these three compilations, "Original Sin" doesn't follow the rulebook for compilation albums and results in something that is very different than most compilation albums by any band..
One fact that I find amazing about Inxs is that this six-member band stuck together from their formation in the late 1970s through Michael Hutchence's untimely death in 1997. During this period, the band would release 10 studio albums, 1 Greatest Hits album, and 1 Live album. This has allowed the band to meld together and grow professionally. Much of this is due to the fact that three band members are brothers: Andrew Farriss (Keyboards), Jon Farriss (Drums), and Tim Farriss (Guitar). The other three members also stuck tightly with the band the whole way. These members include: Michael Hutchence (Lead Vocals), Garry Gary Beers (Bass), and Kirk Pengilly (Guitar and Sax). Hutchence - known for his long hair and theatrical performances in concert often gets the most publicity. But the remaining five members all make major contributions from a musicianship standpoint. In addition, Hutchence is not just eye candy - he plays a key role in the songwriting.
I think Inxs' musical style can be considered an offshoot of the punk and new-wave movements of the late 1970s and early 1980s. Early in their careers, they definitely fit in with the synth-pop movement of the early 1980s. By the time 1987's "Kick" was released, the band began to incorporate some more traditional funk and rock sounds into their portfolio - particularly with the use of guitars. This corresponded very nicely to the 80s music landscape transitioning from synth-pop to more guitar laden sounds. However on all of its releases the band always stuck true to their roots throughout this 15-year period.
"Original Sin" is unique for one reason; it wasn't intended to be a greatest hits album. As the liner notes indicate, it is intended to be a "sampler" from Inxs' first six albums. This covers material from the hard-to-find self-titled debut album ("Inxs") through their peak album, 1987's "Kick". There are three songs included from each of the six albums, so each album is equally represented. The nice thing is the rulebook was thrown out. Many of the songs picked are not the first songs that come to mind, although there are some fan favorites like "Original Sin", "Devil Inside", "Listen Like Thieves", and "Don't Change". These songs may be known to the longtime fan, but represent something new to a newbie Inxs fan.
The six albums include:
"Inxs": "Just Keep Walking"; "In Vain"; "Learn to Smile"
"Underneath the Colours": "Underneath the Colours"; "Horizons"; "Barbarian"
"Shabooh Shoobah": "Don't Change"; "Spy of Love"; "Here Comes"
"The Swing": "Original Sin"; "Melting in the Sun"; "Johnson's Aeroplane"
"Listen Like Thieves": "Listen Like Thieves"; "Same Direction"; "Biting Bullets"
"Kick": "Devil Inside"; "Wild Life"; "Calling All Nations"
Do they get it right with the sampled songs? They don't - there are plenty of "hidden gems" that are not included - such as "Golden Playpen" (from Shabooh Shoobah)"; "Dancing on the Jetty" and "Love Is (What I Say)" from "The Swing"; and "Tiny Daggers" from "Kick". However this collection does include a plenty of other hidden gems that many fans may not realize. The nice thing is that there is material from the first two Inxs albums ("Inxs" and "Underneath the Colours"). While the "Shine Like It Does" anthology is the most comprehensive Inxs compilation out there, it also comes up extremely short from the material from these first two albums. This is the best place to find material pre-"Shabooh Shoobah" with the exception of getting the physical albums themselves. Fans who haven't heard songs like "Just Keep Walking", "In Vain", "Horizons", "Here Comes", "Melting in the Sun", and "Same Direction" are going to be pleasantly surprised of the depth of the body of work produced by Inxs.
The nice thing is that this collection does "sample" these tracks in chronological order from which they were released. This makes things nice because you can hear the transformation from Inxs' punk and new-wave to a more mainstream rock sound.
As mentioned this collection only covers material through Inxs' 1987 "Kick" album. In 2006 Inxs would release the sequel to "Original Sin" entitled "Taste It: The Collection". "Taste It" picks right up where "Original Sin" left off and also "samples" the remaining Hutchence-era material from "X" to "Elegantly Wasted" - including material from "The Greatest Hits" (an early 1994 compilation that also had some original songs) and "Live Baby Live". Together, these two will make interesting additions to any fans collection.
The liner notes contain a discography and a short-write-up on the music of Inxs and information about the "Original Sin" compilation. The only real issue is that this material may not appeal to longtime Inxs fans. The deep Inxs fan will have this material already and might second-guess some of the songs that were "sampled" for this collection. Still this isn't your ordinary collection and as an owner of many Inxs albums, I still felt compelled to have this in my collection. One can't argue with the quality of the end product. This collection is definitely worth checking out.
Great band, odd compilation.......2004-12-12
I'm not sure why they put this album together, as it doesn't contain all of their hits, and concentrates more on the first 4 albums than their later work. I'd expect alternate version, b-sides, or live versions for a collection such as this, but nothing out of the average. If you're a collector, you'll probably want one of everything the band creates. But if you're looking for a place to start, you'd be better off picking up 'Kick' or 'The Swing' for your first taste of INXS.

Album Description
LTM is proud to announce the first complete CD release of the classic 1981 compilation album The Fruit of the Original Sin, first released on chic Belgian indie label Les Disques du Crepuscule. Originally released as a deluxe double album package in November 1981, The Fruit of the Original Sin featured 24 exclusive tracks from the international avant garde and new wave, as well as the celebrated Factory Records and Postcard rosters. Then, as now, the contributing artists include William S. Burroughs, The Durutti Column, Paul Haig, Tuxedomoon, Wim Mertens, DNA, Richard Jobson, Marine, The French Impressionists and Peter Gordon. The programme also includes an extended interview with acclaimed French author Marguerite Duras. The original double album now features 8 bonus tracks, including both sides of long-lost singles by Paul Haig (Soon/Summertime) and noted New York visual artist Lawrence Weiner (Deutsche Angst/Where It Came From), as well as a rare track (Matters of Theory) by The Lost Jockey, the modernist ensemble featuring composer Andrew Poppy. The 12 page facsimile booklet features original artwork by Benoit Hennebert and Jean-François Octave, as well as archive images and detailed liner notes. The original cover art by Hennebert is widely recognised as one of his very best designs. This new double CD edition has been digitally remastered from the original master tapes, and features 125 minutes of material. Most of the tracks featured here remain unavailable elsewhere.

Customer Reviews:
Delicious***.......2005-09-18
A musical feast for the ears and spirit! It's subtle, yet very sexy, but in a very sensual, soothing sort of way...and it is full of muscial promise and brimming with delightfulness. Listening to it and ingesting the melodies is like standing under a water fall of rose petals...and being showered.
Terence Blanchard did an outstanding job on this project...I often play this CD early in the morning while sipping my tea and contemplating my day and my life, or very late at night when I need to unwind. It's a perfect companion for warm breezy evenings, as the sunsets, and also it is great when coupled with a fireplace and cold winter nights.
If you can find this gem for less than $30.00, you've found a bargain, so grab it! It's out of print, but certainly isn't out of mind..it stays in the forefront of my music collection.
As sensual as the movie...........2002-05-29
I am a great fan of soundtrack music. If you are as well, and if you enjoyed the movie, you need this CD in your collection.
Strangely after seeing the movie I realized I hadn't really noticed the music, a very unusual occurrence. Upon listening to the CD and re-watching the film, I realized they were so closely joined the music had become almost subliminal.
The sensuality and beauty of the film overwhelmed my senses and the music just seemed so well-suited that it all blended. The CD made me aware that the smooth sensuous sounds had just washed over me while I was entranced in the film. They still do everytime I listen. The music even without the film works beautifully.
Give a listen yourself and feel the seduction.
*Enchanting*.......2001-10-11
Very smooth, sensual music. For those that saw the movie you will feel like you are right there in Cuba with Julia and Louis. Great for relieveing stress and putting you in a seductive state of mind. Definately a Great buy!
simply Beautiful.......2001-10-09
I've seen the movie and fell in love with the music. This is a warm, sensual composition that makes you want to be in a southern country relaxing by the beach. No big complex orchestration, just plaisant and simple melodies that makes your mind escape to a another world. Definitly a must buy for fans of carefuly composed scores.
Sensual!!.......2001-08-14
Very exotic and sensual! I loved the beat and the mood! I would definetly recommend this music if you like the Movie.

DON'T JUMP AT THIS ONE WITHOUT THINKING FIRST:.......2005-06-08
I must tell you, the sound quality on this is horrible, so unless you're left with no LP or Cassette of their first album recordings, such as "Fall in Love Again", I would skip this because it's no improvement is sound (or can it even be worse). This band is currently redoing it's early catalog, and maybe they'll re-release their 1st album as well. I would wait. For the price, I'd stick with your squeaky cassette.
