5 out of 5 stars Talk about a kick in the teeth.......2007-04-19

I can't believe I have never heard these guys, anywhere! This is sick music. Dark and heavy! I have to get there next album. I just can't get enough.

5 out of 5 stars A Sinful Heaven for the Ears.......2005-12-13

Since I first began my exploration for new forms of music and trying desperately to escape the mainstream crap I've found really awesome bands... but by far the best I've discovered is a band from Sweden named Deathstars. They are a little on the religious blasting side but their music is sure to give your ears nothing but satisfaction. Whiplashers deep voice and tones gives a gothic feel to their already industrial music style.

Synthetic Generation is an amazing treat for music lovers of the goth/industrial scene but I feel anyone could enjoy the beats that these guys mercilously dish out. Deathstars is a band that's not afraid to step out on the limb of creativeness and experimentation. If you buy ANY of their cd's you will not be dissappointed... the lyrics are passionate and well written and fit the beats of the song with out-most perfection. Their newest cd Termination Bliss seems to some how even surpass Synthetic Generation. Just when you thought the band was at complete perfection they come up with something even better. That's what I call a great band. Whiplashers vocals are at their best in Termination Bliss and the beats are as fun and exciting as ever. Not only one of the most attractive looking set of band members out there... there sound is that of their own and they work it. Don't miss out and buy Termination Bliss and Synthetic Generation. I listen to both cd's over and over again all day dancing and singing in the shower and the car... beware this band is addictive and you'll find it hard to ever stop listening to them.

3 out of 5 stars Definitely not Kovenant Caliber.......2004-12-13

The band which draws the greatest comparison to the Deathstars is of course the almighty Kovenant whose industrial black metal sound is amazing and a must listen. The Deathstars strive for similar heights of greatness but fumble quite a bit on the way to the altar. Musically, most of the album is forgettable with occasional flashes of brilliance in the tracks "Little Angel" and "No Light." This isn't to say that the music isn't entertaining but think of it more as a popcorn sound versus a thick cheesecake of a sound. The vocals can be interesting at times but are do tend to get monotonous at various points. Despite all of this, i do find myself spinning this disc quite a bit so it must be doing something right. My advice to you: go for Kovenant's SETI first and if you fall in love with that record and still desire more music along those lines, purchase this record but don't expect it to be nearly as awesome as Kovenant's masterpiece.

3 out of 5 stars Ok debut, but the music should be more interesting.......2004-11-26

Synthetic Generation is the debut album from Swedish Metal band Deathstars. When I first heard the album, I immediately heard resemblances with The Kovenant. The main difference between those bands is that The Kovenant writes better and more original songs. Although Synthetic Generation is a fun album to listen to, the songs tend to sound to simple. The music is build upon up-tempo Rammstein riffs and electronic keyboard-sounds. Unfortunately the instrumentation is rather simple. There are not many instrumental parts that really stand out. The vocals are not bad, but sound a bit limited. On the title-track you can hear a vocal part, which sounds much better than the usual vocals on the album. Besides simple, the songs are also short. On Synthetic Generation Deathstars also plays the song "White Wedding" from Billy Idol. That song fits the band perfectly. If you are a fan of The Kovenant or Rammstein, then check out this album. Synthetic is a promising debut, but I hope that the second album will be better.

4 out of 5 stars deathstars - synthetic generation.......2004-11-11

I am a big fan of dark, death and symphonic metals, and although I don't listen to this albumn quite as much as others such as Nightwish and Pain, I think Deathstars really does make good listening. They are a fairly new band, and a few of their tracks could do with a few minor adjustments, but their videos and style is very profesional. There is variation between the tracks, and while a fan of different taste may not be able to tell them apart, that is usually the case with all bands. While the talent is not exceptional, their style and presentation are spot on. They'll soon be riding with the best of them. I enjoyed this albumn very much, although I wouldn't pay any more than £15 for it. (About $25, I think.)

5 out of 5 stars The rise of Black Industrial Metal.......2003-06-02

Wow. "Synthetic Generation" by Deathstars is a great album. If you are a fan of acts such as Kovenant, Ram-Zet, maybe even Red Harvest, you will definatly enjoy this album. It is full of sonic fury, and the "gothic/industrial/black metal" vocals that are beginning to emerge. If you can find the videos online, download them, they ae disturbing yet great! This is the future of black metal music!

3 out of 5 stars Heavy Industrial Sound.......2002-11-24

I gave them 3 stars because I haven't actually listened to the album in its entirety, but the songs that I've listened to are quite good. This band sounds more industrial sounding than metal, which is quite obvious when you listen to the title track which stands out with its heavy industrial techno sound (which is not a bad think). The lead singers voice is not bad for this type of music. If you enjoy listening to bands like The Kovenant then I'm sure you'll enjoy Deathstars.
