Old- and new-school metalheads unite on this 18-track soundtrack to Dee Snider's film. The best songs here come from the vets. Snider's track with Anton Sanko, "Inconclusion," is dark, Tool-influenced music; it's well-executed and far removed from the Twisted Sister frontman's roots. Megadeth's engaging, Indian-influenced "A Secret Place" and Anthrax's grooving "P-N-V" also rock with energy and melody. But there are some surprises from the new generation of heavy rockers: System of a Down deliver the amusingly tongue-in-cheek, retro-Goth "Marmalade," while the ever-annoying industrial group Bile offer the appropriately sleazy and somewhat catchy electro-rock assault "In League." Twisted Sister themselves reunite for "Heroes Are Hard to Find," an amiable anthem delivered in their classic '80s style. There are also two curious Twisted covers provided by dayinthelife... and Crisis, each group handling one half of the two-part epic "Horror-Teria," the tune from Sister's Stay Hungry that inspired this horror flick. Overall, it's a very mixed bag, but the Snider and Twisted originals are the attraction here, with a few other tracks being pretty decent. --Bryan Reesman

    4 out of 5 stars More like a sampler than a soundtrack.......2003-08-27

Twisted Sister frontman Dee Snider put together a horror movie with mixed results, and the film's soundtrack is no exception. Combining more newer material from older bands and the at the time "up and coming" (now look them up under washed up) nu-metal bands, this soundtrack feels more like a sampler, but that isn't necessarily a bad thing. Dee Snider's moody "Inconclusion" is surprisingly good, while Pantera's "Where You Come From" (from their live album) and Anthrax's "P-N-V" are standout newer tracks from two legendary bands. Other standout cuts include Sevendust's "Breathe", Snot's "Absent", and a reunited Twisted Sister's "Heroes are Hard to Find", but the cuts from Kid Rock, Soulfly, Bile, and (hed)pe are nothing special. Also, of all the Megadeth songs, why "A Secret Place"? I can think of so many other songs by them that would have better suited this soundtrack. All in all, despite it's flaws, the Strangeland soundtrack is an above average metal collection.

    5 out of 5 stars excellent soundtrack.......2001-04-14

this soundtrack is among the best compilations i own. actually almost every song is very good on here (exception: the twisted sister track and kid rock). it is put together excellent out of great old metal bands and some nu metal stuff. the highlights are the opening track by former twisted sister vocalist dee snider, breathe by sevendust (in my opinion one of their best songs), p&v by anthrax (a nice old-style metal song), absent by snot (their last and one of their best songs. probably the best on here) and last but not least marmalade by system of a down. the previous released stuff on here (soulfly - eye for an eye. (hed)p.e. - serpent boy, coal chamber - not living and so on) is pretty good too

    4 out of 5 stars hello!.......2001-04-09

hello! i personally think that this is one of the best soundtracks i own, however, there is only one disapointment i have. durring the film, when Carleton Hendrix was in the instituation, there was an interesting song playing while he was walking around and i have no idea who it's by or what it's called. if anyone has absolutly any information on this music, please email me at fuzzybubble40@hotmail.com

5 out of 5 stars Best soundtrack EVER.......2000-07-06

Dee Snider picked one hell of a lineup for this soundtrack. Almost ever single track is good, excluding Megadeth, Kid Rock (the WORST track, and it's not even cause I dont like Kid Rock, it's just BAD), and Crisis. Sevendust's "Breathe" is a great track, and Sevendust fan should own this because it is one of their best songs. The Pantera track is awesome, but if you own the Pantera live album, then you already have this track. The rest of the tracks are all good, but the high point is definetly Snot's "Absent". Not only is it the best track on the album, but it even beats out most of the stuff on "Get Some". While it is sad that Snot is no longer together (R.I.P. Lynn Strait), there couldn't have been a better track for them to go out on. Every Snot fan should own this because of that song. Overall, I highly recommend this cd, because all fans of metal, old and new, can find something they like on here.

5 out of 5 stars Soundtrack not to be forgotten........2000-05-28

I just recently ordered this cd from amazon and received it in the mail on Tuesday. Well, it is now Saturday, and I can tell you, this is THE BEST soundtrack I own. It has great unreleased songs from Sevendust and System of a Down. And the Major highlight of the cd, is the VERY last Snot, song, Absent. This will probably be the song that you will think of from now on when someone says "Snot". Simply mindblowing. There is also a diff. version of Not Living by Coal Chamber that sounds more like their first album. Then there are the songsn that I already have: Serpent Boy, by (hed) pe and Eye For an Eye By soulfly. If you want a GREAT mix of metal, Strangeland is the way to go, also check out the movie, it too is amazong.

5 out of 5 stars your yardbird collection isn't complete...........2006-01-12

if you don't have this in your yardbird collection, you're missing something.to get both albums in one cd, even better. unfortunately this cd has been overlooked by the public and desreves a much better fate. i play it on community radio in lincoln,ne. and it always evokes calls of appreciation. after attaining this, get the solo efforts by jim mccarty. rarely do drummers saing and write songs so well.

4 out of 5 stars This one needs to be re-issued!.......2003-07-09

It is a shame that this great CD is no longer in print. Though the 2nd half of the 2fer (Strangeland) is on the weak side, the first album was very strong. Jeff Beck, Ray Majors, Jim McCarty, Chris Dreja, and Paul Samwell-Smith. Hey, sounds like THE YARDBIRDS to me! Two of the best tracks from the album 'Back Where I Started' and 'Two Steps Ahead' were re-recorded for the recent Jim McCarty solo album 'Outside Woman Blues'- available here at Amazon ...

4 out of 5 stars From a "Yard" of "Birds" to a Box Of Frogs!
    .......2001-06-10

It's unfortunate that this group was missed by the general public. The surviving members of the original YARDBIRDS regroup with a little help from John Fiddler on lead vocals and guest guitar spots from Ray Majors, Rory Gallagher, and old band make Jeff Beck for an album a great songs. The first time I heard the haunting single "Back Where I Started" I was hooked. After aquiring the album I was stunned to learn that it was in fact the Yardbirds (minus Keith Relf who had unfortunately passed tragicly).
Having disbanded in 1968, this legendary English band was back with fresh tans and strong songs. In fact, this album was one of the strongest efforts of the 80's.
The second disc, Strangeland, lacked the songwriting quality of the first, but had another Yardbird alumni, JIMMY PAGE, join the band on a couple of tracks. Ironicly, Jimmy Page was the last person to join The Yardbirds, but wound up with the legal rights to the name. The same complications which forced The New Yardbirds to change their name to Led Zeppelin, also prevented Box Of Frogs from being The New New Yardbirds.
I waited years to finally get this album on CD, now it's a twofer...what a deal. Definately a must have for fans of Jeff Beck, Asia, or GTR.
Check out my webcast at www.live365.com (SpinJunkies Adult Album Rock). I always have a couple of Box Of Frog tunes in the rotation.

5 out of 5 stars i really dig this album.......1999-03-26

I think that this is one of the better rock albums ever recorded. I've listened to box of frogs for as long as I can remember and they've always been one of my favorites. The guitars and bass riffs remind me of hard rock , but with more taste.

4 out of 5 stars What's an aging Yardbird to do?.......1998-11-28

Well, apparently make a couple of obscure but excellent albums. The first, Box of Frogs, is a little flat, but Strange Land has some excellent, haunting tracks that keep you coming back. The title track and Hanging from the Wreckage are standouts, while the Jimmy Page appearance on Asylum gets high marks as well. Compare this album against others by aging 60's stars and you wonder why they all can't be this good. The only downside of this collection of the two Box of Frogs albums is that it neglects the 2 cassette only bonus tracks on the Strange Land album.

This CD rocks and gets stuck in my head. From the opening riff of "The Enemy Has Fallen" I was hooked. Very solid, shredding, melodic, groovin' album which has been very well produced. Great tones, pounding drums, and melodic and powerful vocals.

I just can't wait for the full length album.

I have seen this band live several times, and I can honestly say they deliver the goods. No studio magic here, these guys really pull it off.

Returning in 2006 with their sophomore release, STRANGELAND, Cellar Records recording artist, Court Jester, has musically matured and proved their boasts of being the premier Whiskey Rockers in the U.S. Coming quickly off the heels of Low Downs [Gina; Cellar Records 2003] successful run at commercial radio across the nation, Court Jester is returning to the scene with an all new album and an all new live line-up. Strangeland truly marks the growth of the bands musicianship. Dan Boehne has now taken the reins and stepped up to the mic becoming the new voice of Court Jester, and has brought a new rawness to the band that seems to have rejuvenated the band. Accompanied by founding member, James Azrael on guitars; Producer, Todd Joos on bass guitar and back up vocals; Bob the Birdman Brady on drums; and featuring special guest Dizzy Reed of Guns N Roses on piano and Hammond C2 Organ. Focusing on their hard rock and blues roots with Strangeland, Court Jester really hits home with songs like Hollywood Girl, Aint Comin Back, and They Cant Catch Me. And songs like This Life really let Dans new vocal duties shine and also prove why Dizzy Reed is one of the top keyboardists in rock today. The epic love song, Destinys Dance, brings in a full string section and proves without a doubt that these guys have musically matured and will continue to surprise their fans. And the personal homage and cover of the heart-tearing Motorhead tune, 1916, sums up and closes the album leaving the listener in awe.
