the second with Snowy White.......2007-05-12
I like this cd too much, Angel of death, hollywood, this cd is too great, the sound is very good, you must have this cd!
The Best Lizzy Album - LISTEN IT.......2007-01-24
Superb album, from the beginning to the end. Not a mistake.
1 - Angel of Death - Nice lyrics (little inspiration on Stones' simpathy for the devil), powerful song, 6 minutes of ecstasy - 9,0.
2 - Renegade - To me, the weekest of the album, but still a classic. "He's just a boy, that's all", it cannot be better than this. The main problem os this song is that it goes round and round in circles and doesn't go anywhere. 8,0
3 - The pressure will blow. Really makes your pressure blow. Typical Lizzy song, that's why is so perfect. Change your pint for vodka during this one. 10,0
4 - Leave this Town - Nothing espetacular, but works fine here between 2 nervous shakedown pieces. It's the kind of song that you don't love, but once in a year you caught yourself singing it. 8,0
5 - Hollywood. Sweet hollywood... Nice lyrics, you are on your own, pal. Hook you since the very first second. 10,0
6 - No one told Him - Listen, closely, it's and underrated song. Like all the final 4 of this album. Love song, lizzy style, only phil was capable os doing that one. "But how can he forget? he hasn't got a friend." 9,0
7 - Jazzy, cool, groovy, inteligent, funky, bluesy, fusion. I don't what the f**k is it, but who cares, you still "love to swing" during this one. 9,0+, with class.
8 - Mexican Blood - Tequila in the jar. Imagine the best storyteller alive. Forget it. He died. And he was an irish boy, with some brazilian blood. My favorite of the album. 10 +
9 - It's getting Dangerous - That's the best definition ever of "climax". The song come bringing you to a totaly different level on every second, until it explodes like a damn dynamite. The only drug you need to consume is Thin Lizzy. 10.
We all want more Phil.
Some real powerful material here.......2006-09-26
Another classy under rated effort.
After all these years you go back and realize how good it was and how good we really had it.
Some lost & overlooked gems on this release.
Scott Gorham and Snowy White have some awesome moments together.
Bottom line. The first 5 songs are GREAT. Some real powerful material here. I have listened to those time and time again and love them for all the right reasons.
The first 5 songs in my opinion propel this album to that 5 star rating.
"Angel of Death" is a pummeling assault on the senses.
"Renegade" has that Dire Straits influence all over it. Shows us what Dire Straits would sound like with some heavy twin leads/harmony.
"The Pressure will blow" is icing on the cake, and "Leave this town" has that powerhouse ZZ Top vibe going for it.
So far we've got some true gems. They deserve excessive repeated listening. Another gem is "Hollywood"- the twin harmony solo...gets me every time! Love it.
The rest of the album from "No one told him", "Fat's" to "It's getting dangerous" can be referred to as decent material but nothing that truly shines like the first half of this release.
They do not rock in the typical Lizzy sense of the word.
I'm thinking they would be better on a Phil Lynott solo release than a Lizzy album.
Those that slammed this release or have given it low ratings must have gotten lost somewhere along the way.
Highly recommend this album. You will not be disappointed.
Thin Lizzy enters the 1980s.......2006-04-04
Renegade. (1982)
*** 1/2.
This album came after the band's most commercially successful era (1976-78). Now with Warner Brothers records instead of Mercury Lizzy was flying into the early 1980s.
I'll admit I had not listened to this album in quite awhile. On a whim, I sat down and took this album in from stem to stern.
The result?
Its still good, but it is flawed. I especially enjoy "Hollywood" and to a lesser extent "Renegade." The rest of the LP suffers from inconsistentcy.
For example "The pressure will blow," great song in the beginning. It builds with a good meaty hook. Then you get to the guitar solo. It doesn't fit with the song in my view. The guitar solo should've gone in the lower range instead of going high. Would have fit the song.
You also have the different vibe of "Fats" then into "Mexican Blood"
Again, they aren't bad its just differing vibes. They never quite come together or tell you where Lizzy is going to take you. Seems Lizzy wasn't sure either.
Finally, my last observation is there is very little passion here. "Hollywood" has Phil belting some out. The rest though its sparse. The guitars almost have mechanical feel to them. There are no solos that lift you in the air.
This is one of the lesser Lizzy albums. If interested in later Lizzy (1979-83) I would suggest "Thunder & Lightning" as the best example of that era - Then "Life:Live."
Great Album.......2006-01-13
I am tired of hearing about this album not being up to the rest of Thin Lizzy's albums. This was a defining album for them. The title cut is so identifiable to so many teens and adults alike it goes to the heart of who Thin Lizzy is. This was the first Thin Lizzy album I bought and so I measure the the rest of their works to it. There are many of their albums that in no way meet up to the standards of this. It may not have all of the songs being balls to the walls rock and roll, but it goes back to the blues where so many bands have forgotten where it all started. Not a bad song on the album.

Totally Triumphant!!!.......2007-07-07
I already have all the other albums by these Power-Metal Masters!!! This was the only one eluding me. A lot of folks can't understand these guys...just listen to the music!!! This is what happens when you have a group of guys that are making music they love and are still having fun doing so. Not for corporate tie ins or bigger album sales. They shout a big "F-YOU" to today's music industry in the fact that they are still playing what they want and not what some fat slob of a producer is telling them to. Stronget then steel...brighter than the sun...KEEP THE FIRE BURNING!!!!
Power Metal at its Best!!.......2006-06-27
Hammerfall is one of the best modern metal bands around today. Most of the other modern so called "metal" bands are nothing but screaming [...]. Hammerfall took the best parts of 80's metal and solidified it together with an updated sound. They have a lot of skill and talent. Their songs are powerful and heavy and yet actually have melody that you can follow. You can hear and understand all the words. But again, they are extremely powerful and heavy. They have a constant Middle Age theme running through all their albums which is what makes them unique. It creates a certain mood and flow that connects all the songs on an album.
Now about rating their albums...all 5 of their albums rock! But the last 4 are better than the first. Their first is good heavy metal, much better than most metal bands today, but the songs did not completely "click" and come together. However, that issue was completely gone by the second album! None of their next 4 albums are better than the other. They all are as good as heavy power metal with melodic vocals can get. On each album they further develop their style and introduce a few new things. But... and a very important but... each album still sounds like Hammerfall! They remain true to their sound. So here are the ratings:
3.5 Glory to the Brave
5.0 Legacy Of Kings
5.0 Renegade
5.0 Crimson Thunder
5.0 Chapter V: Unbent, Unbowed, Unbroken
When Hammerfall delivers you know ...........2006-03-05
This album gives you the impression that it was wrote in the `80 but its not ,the drums and the guitars are like you have never heard before .Renegade is one of the best ,the guitars are tight but precised and just hard stuff! When you hear this album this is one of their signature albums ,again one of the best ,this album is true Hammerfall in it ,I strongly recommend !
don't do it.......2005-08-29
this album is crap and i will not be going anywhere near anything else by them.
some of the guitar is ok but the singing will keep you from appreciating anything on there.
terrible stuff... the lyrics are woeful (& i used to play dungeons and dragons as a kid) and the actual singing is a terrible attempt to sound like bruce dickinson while suffering from an extreme case of having no talent.
Never Selling Out.......2005-08-28
This is a band I don't ever see selling out.
Hammerfall get's a lot of crap for being cheesy(real cheesy),but who cares, there music is good. They are traditional metal(maybe they have a little, little power metal in them).
This is there third release and second best album in my opinion,(Glory To The Brave being there best album).
The thing I don't like about Hammerfall is there crapy love ballad's they have in all of there albums(the song Glory To The Brave is alright). This album starts off with Templars Of Steel which is a great song(slower song).I'm not going to talk about there lyrics because everyone knows the lyrics are cheesy. The Way Of The Warrior is the best song on the album(amazing).
Raise The Hammer is an instrumental.
Oscar Dronjak makes good albums.

From a Terry McMillan fan.......2007-06-28
As a harmonica player and Terry McMillan fan I bought this CD to hear Terry in a different setting than I'm used to. He was, until his death in 2/07 at the age of 53, THE Nashville session harp player (he was also a percussionist and wonderful singer). He was also big on the Christian music circuit. Check out his videos on YouTube. He's incredible. His own Christian-based CDs are excellent. On this Larry Carlton CD Terry fits in well with the various blues/rock/jazzy grooves that Larry Carlton lays down. If you like Southern rock and roll you'll probably like this record and if you like jazz rock you will like it as well. Larry Carlton can definitely rock out. Fans of Terry McMillan might wish that he sang more and was turned up a bit more in the mix on the bluesier tunes. Blues harmonica players that don't know about Terry- check him out! Terry McMillan- God bless your soul.
Great for Carlton and blues fans .......2006-03-17
This is just a fun album, a long time coming for Carlton. Being a big fan of Sapphire Blue and his live work, I was happy to find that Renegade Gentleman really lets loose that live feel some of his gentler releases repress. "Sleep Medicine" and "Anthem" best showcase Carlton's technical ability while remaining musically interesting, but "Farm Jazz" is the the album's best track - it's a thoroughly upbeat and melodic piece that displays, within a tuneful boundary, Carlton's and McMillan's talent. "R.C.M." has a killer groove and lead melody, but, like a few of the tracks, it might lose listeners who are more interested in pop-structure than technique. That's what's interesting about Renegade Gentleman - its a southern-blues jam that is self-conscious; it's aware that it's a really a jazz session guitarist's experiment. This is part of the reason I enjoy this work - the phrasing and production are top-notch but the thematic effect is a bit "dirty". Of course, this may also be a reason why "true" blues fans may find it a little unsatisfying (though McMillan's presence should rectify this). My only big problem - the vocal tracks are awful.
Great Blues/Rock with Terrific Harp Playing from Terry McMillan.......2005-10-04
When I first heard the song "Cold Day in Hell," with Larry Carlton's powerfully soulful vocals and Terry McMillan's bone-crushing amplified harmonica, I knew I had to buy this CD! I'm glad I did. It's a great blend of blues and rock, and this is the first I've heard of harmonica player Terry McMillan. The guy's got serious harp chops! Consider me a new fan of both these great musicians.
THE BEST CARLTON IN MY COLLECTION.......2004-05-18
Untill now I had only heard the smooth jazz version of LARRY CARLTON and it always left me a bit cold. Yes he is a brilliant technician, but his material often lacked fire and soul. No such reservations here. THIS SIZZLES!!!.
Unexpected fire and passion plus his incredible technique, make this a stand out CD in any genre. While not being pure blues, it borrows some of the emotions from the BLUES and the musik of CARLTON is the better for it.
If you like the guitar or LARRY CARLTON specificaly, this should be in your collection.
Blues Duo!.......2002-08-16
On Renegade Gentleman, Larry Carlton joins with Terry McMillan for a Southern Rock affair with excellent blues overtones. Anyone familiar with Carlton knows that he is ever changing and always growing as a guitarist. Whether it's an acoustic outing such as "Alone But Never Alone" or "Minute by Minute", electric pop such as "Kid Gloves" or in combination with other greats such as Steve Lukather, you usually get something a little different and more refined with each release. This time out, Carlton has joined with Terry McMillian and has gone in yet another direction. McMillian is a blues harpist that has played with Neil Young, Ray Charles and Jerry Lee Lewis to name but a few. His style is reminiscent of Little Walter or John Mayall and he blows with authority. To ensure the proper blues flavor, Double Trouble's Chris Layton appears on drums for five of the discs eleven numbers. All original compositions and the combination here is potent and extremely satisfying.

Tim Arnold.......2007-02-18
Broken Hearted People (Take me to a barroom) is probably one of the greatest country songs ever recorded. Steve Young's voice conveys great emotion. He is so mournful in this song, I find myself feeling sorry for him when I listen. His classic songs, like Angel from Montgomery are perfect. If you have only one country album, this should be it.
Not the guy with all the concussions that wore #8.......2001-10-30
These are two albums produced by Roy Dea. (It actually comes with 2 CD's in one jewel case.) Roy Dea was Gary Stewart's producer on his classic album "Out Of Hand". Steve Young's emotional vocals sound very good with this type of production. Many of these songs are Outlaw Classics. These albums are collectors items on vinyl, so you'll never be able to find them. Might as well on CD, eh? Steve Young has a musical career just as fabulous as his football career.
The real deal.......2001-08-28
There haven't been 10 better albums made in country music over the past 50 years. Waylon Jennings used to regularly show up at Young's shows and told anybody who wanted to hear it that he had the best voice in country music. Young's also one of the finest 12 string guys in the biz. If you like Americana or Alt. Country or whatever it is they call it these days, you NEED these CDs.

Album Description
René Marie sings about life and the art of living it fully. On Serene Renegade, her 4th CD for MAXJAZZ, she sings not only about her remarkable story but also those of her father, her mother, her sister and brother and her sons. With this recording, she reminds the listener of her great ability to mine the spirit of a song and interpret it in affecting fashion.
Marie wrote nine of the 11 striking tunes on Serene Renegade, adding one standard, "Lover Man, O Where Can You Be" and "Hard Day's Night" from John Lennon and Paul McCartney. She immerses herself fully in the emotion of the compositions and completely brings them to life along with the help of her touring band - Takana Miyamoto, piano; Herman Burney, bass; Quentin Baxter, drums - and her special guests, Jeremy Pelt, trumpet; and Roland Guerrero, percussion.
Customer Reviews:
Hang up that pen........2006-06-30
If there's a better singer on the jazz scene today than Rene Marie, I haven't heard her. Nobody matches her combination of astounding technique, pure tone and great big heart. And creative intelligence, too: she can take the moldiest standard or most unlikely pop tune and re-imagine it into something completely fresh and moving. Her bands and arrangements are always top-notch. I could go on and on -- her previous three MaxJazz disks are all 5-star beauties. Buy them all. Now, if only Rene could write songs like she sings them. Most of the songs on this CD are written in a prosey, tuneless, meterless modern style that makes poor use of her vocal talents. Her "I've had it real hard, but I'm tough and I'm gonna make it" subject matter is so heartfelt and sincere that I feel like a complete jerk for being annoyed by it. But there it is... maybe the songs are just so personal that I feel uncomfortable, maybe even unwelcome, listening in. "Little Girl" is downright cringe-inducing. I hope this wonderful singer has gotten the writing bug out of her system with Serene Renegade so she can carry on doing what she does better than anyone.
I love this Cd.......2005-11-06
This cd has such a great energy to it, and the musicianship is fantastic. The drummer Quentin Baxter is by far the most superior jazz drummer I have ever heard, and his work clearly fits in each piece Rene Marie puts together. It would be worthwhile to everyone to find more of Baxter's drumming, because he is unmatched in his soulful artistry. I reccomend this cd to everyone.
Another terrific album from an underrated singer.......2004-12-29
Wow! Just when I think I've got my "10 best of the year" list down, along comes another tremendous album to cause me to rethink the matter.
Rene Marie really reminds me of Carmen McRae. Not only are the ranges and timbres of the two voices similar, but both have a way of phrasing their songs, so as really to communicate the message of their music. Both are superb musicians.
Unlike Carmen, though, and unlike most chanteusses on the scene today, Rene Marie writes really strong songs. Here, all but two are originals. And as good as the covers are (a bluesy read of the Beatles' "Hard Day's Night" and a swinging cover of Billie/Carmen's "Lover Man", if you can believe that!), the originals are even better.
I particularly liked "Little Girl" and "Red Shoes," both autobiographical tomes which merit becoming standards someday. And after repeated listenings, I'm especially drawn to the stirring anthem, "The South Is Mine." But whether balladizing ("Wishes", for example), or swinging ("Rufast Daliarg"), Rene Marie is a complete artist.
Special mention to her sidemen, particularly Quentin Baxter (drums). Their backup is just right. And Jeremy Pelt's trumpet adds a nice wistfulness to those cuts which call for that.
I cannot remember a time in popular music history when so many supremely gifted jazz singers have done so much good work and gone so relatively unnoticed. Rene Marie, Lorraine Feather, Madeleine Peyroux, Jackie Ryan, Jackie Allen, Barbara Sfraga, Kendra Shank, Kitty Margolis, Madeleine Eastman, Tierney Sutton, Luciana Souza, Kate McGarry, Lisa Sokolov, Ann Dyer....The list just goes on and on. RC
Commendably bold and Different.......2004-12-17
Rene Marie, since I've known her music, has been different from the norm. In this new CD, she has really moved boldly away from the expectations of today's jazz vocalists. Look around, and you'll see jazz vocal albums full of well-worn standards, with maybe one or at the most two original compositions thrown in - it is expected (ignorantly and selfishly so) by the public to be that way. But, Rene goes against the grain and dares to deliver an album where, of 11 songs, 9 are hers. The fact that she is an artist relatively unknown, with just 5 albums overall, makes it all the more amazing. Even though her compositional abilities are quite adequate, it was still a bit hard to get into the music at first. Upon first listen, some of her songs seem to meander, and seem to go on a bit longer than necessary. After a few listens, though, you begin to really grasp it, and the music gets to you. Like another reviewer said, though, even though the musicians here are by no means incompetent, the band she had on her live album sounds much tighter and powerful than this one. To sum up, if you are open to the notion of a jazz "singer-songwriter" of sorts (a very rare ocurrence, indeed), then, the brave Rene Marie should be an artist to consider. To the already initiated Marie fan, beware: this album might be harder to get into than her previous ones, but you shouldn't fear - she is still as passionate and intense as she's ever been. I applaud her for being her own self at all costs, for refusing to fit into the nice little boxes jazz singers are expected to. Even though this might not be my favorite Marie album, she continues to be at the top of my list, because artists who show no fear, who dare to change, who sound like they are hungry to explore will always get my respect. Sadly, not many people appreciate these qualities nowadays - they prefer the tried-and-true, the cliches. But, fans of Rene Marie by definition go deeper than that. If you are one of those, dig in - you will not be dissappointed.
seRENE RENEgade.......2004-11-04
This, the fifth CD by Rene' (Renaissance under the name Rene' Croan) and four on the MazzJazz label, is not a quick listen. Serene Renegade is a CD to be studied. As I was writing this review, I notice again the title of this CD and saw her name repeated. And so it is that if one goes by first glance, first listen of SeRENE RENEgade only, they will miss out on a well thought out album, full of emotions, deeply personal, and thoughtful.
Since her debut, fans of Rene' Marie have long wished for an album that showcased her writing talents more prominently. All the songs on Serene Renegade were written and arranged by Rene' with the exception of two songs Hard Day's Night (Lennon & McCartney) and Lover Man Oh Where Can You Be (Davis, Ramirez, & Sherman) which Rene' "covers". Maybe "cover" is not the most appropriate word to use when an artist takes a song such as Hard Day's Night, unRocks it, blues it, swings it, and makes it her own. "Lover Man" is given new life by Rene' who is accompanied by Takana Miyamoto piano, Herman Burney bass and Quentin Baxter drums. On this "cover" Rene plays again with the tempo of the song, interjecting unexpected skips which seem to convey the notion of love's uncertainty. Additional album personnel are Jeremy Pelt trumpet and Roland Guerrero percussion

Country, plain and simple.......2005-01-12
This album was my first exposure to Doug Supernaw, and I enjoyed it enough to search out his other albums. He is a pared-down country singer/songwriter (several of the songs are co-written by Supernaw, and one song was solely written by him), similar -- to my ears, anyway -- to Kieran Kane. If you get this album, you'll be listening to it for a long while. The production won't hit you over the head, and you'll be coming back for more.
One of the few real country singers.......2000-03-24
Doug Supernaw has always been a tradition country singer. This album is another example of Doug Supernaw's talent as an outstanding country singer. If you are a country music fan let alone a Supernaw fan you must get this album.
Doug Supernaw at his finest.......2000-03-19
This album runs the gamut of styles, from the heart wrenching tune "Wilting Rose" to the Cajun flavor of "Drove me to Drinkin'" this album is Doug at his finest. "Wilting Rose" and "Fadin Renegade" brings to mind the great country singers like George Jones while songs like "Nothing sure looked good on you" show Doug can make a play on words that is second to none. After listening to this disc for the second time, I was singing along like I had had this disc for years.
Doug Supernaw - Fadin' Renegade.......1999-11-25
This is a great album. Doug Supernaw along with George Strait are pure country singers. Doug is not a rock-n-roll wannabe in the country category. His first 3 albums were great and this album is no different. His remake of Nothing Sure Looked Good on You is great as is the song Wilting Rose. If you are a true country music fan, go buy this CD!
his best album!.......1999-10-02
Doug Supernaw is by all standards very average...he has an average voice and his lyrics are not incredibly deep. but what the man does with that voice and those lyrics is incredible. i listened to this album once all the way through and by the 2nd listen the songs were already sticking in my head...(his lyrics are simple yet "catchy"). This country artist has always been one of my favorites for just this reason. This CD is full of these types of songs. It is a shame the he can't get a "major" record deal. His music is simple and to the point and everyone can relate to what he sings about. Great artist Great music...If you like Hal Ketchum or Alan Jackson these are artist I would compare him to.

I Dont Get It.......2007-04-19
I love new rap, old rap, rap rock and so on, but I dont get this. It sounds like EMINEM with a sore throat. Sure the lyrical content is different but the style seems identical. There is plenty of original work out there. Pass this up.
Big-B!!! This guy is great........2007-02-01
Big-B is an ultra talent. Nobody quite like Big-B. He is one of the main reasons OPM is so great.
big motherf**kin b is back.......2005-09-25
big b does it again and completely devastated me. he continues to show that he is better than all the crap that you hear on the radio/mtv. if you want to hear an original, talented rapper, you need to check out big b.
favorite tracks are: white trash renegade, blow my mind, remeber, the drugs, hit that, and shut the f**k up.
big b is one of the best rappers on subnoize, you should check out judge d, kingspade, and kmk if you haven't allready.
Big B is the man!.......2005-04-29
Big B really stepped up game up and took it to another with his sophomore album White Trash Renegade. All the songs are outstanding and really showcases Big B`s skills on the mic. Plus the production by Kumagi is great. Favorite tracks: Keep Goin`, Outlaw, The Underground, Hit That, Whiteboys, and Shut The **** Up.
Big B Does It Again..............2005-04-24
Big B release's his sophmore album "White Trash Renegade", And boy i was wrong, This cd is way better then his first album "High Class White Trash". Big B has really changed his style alot in this album. Big B's rhymes have gotten better, And his skills to rapping are just great, and terrific. The production is just so groovy, And Big B's flow's fit so perfect with the song's. Well I Hope Big B's next album would be as good as this. Album Description
Thin Lizzy was a hard rock quartet formed by Philip Lynott out of Dublin, Ireland that had numerous charting albums throughout the 70's & 80s. Wounded Bird will be re-issuing five of those albums on Cd. Renegade was originally issued in 1982. Featured is guitarist Snowy White.
Customer Reviews:
A Rebel - A Fool - " A Renegade " That Has Lost His Way !!.......2005-02-12
Thin Lizzy "Renegade" 1981 release is a Cd that I really really like !! An impressive mix of musical expression, depth and soul.
"Yes" it is different from most Thin Lizzy. But, "Who Cares" It's whats inside that counts. The spirit and soul of the music we hear brings emotion, and Renegade is overflowing.
Lead vocalist and bassist Phil Lynott has one of the most identifiable Rock n Roll voices. His voice ranges from tough to sensitive and everything in between. To play the bass guitar and sing at the same time takes real talent and Phil excells at it.
Phil Lynott is also a Great story teller as expressed in his songwriting.
My other favorite on this album is Drummer Brian Downey. He is no slouch. You know your in for a treat whenever he lends his talents to a recording.
Renegade features solid guitar performances, talented drumming and formadable songwriting which are exclusive to Lynott's talents as a story teller. This Renegade Journey makes for a very enjoyable listening experience.
Featured songs are:
"Angel Of Death"- Song about a devastating nuclear holocaust.
Very intense driving stacatto bass patterns combined with steady forceful drumming. The ending also features some explosive drum fills.
"Renegade"- Rythmic guitar chords and drum accents really enhance this song. Solid bass and drums. Creative off beat drum patterns during the middle section of the song.
"The Pressure Will Build"- A straight forward Lizzy Rock n Roller. Trademark dual harmony guitars.
"Leave The Town"- Uptempo fast rocker with a southern rock feel.
Guitars are the main focus of this fast Rock n Roll Shuffle. Dual lead guitars are showcased !!
"Hollywood"- A story about the Hollywood lifestyle with its dog eat dog mentality. When your down on your luck. This song has a catchy chorus that will have you singing along. A guitar solo as well.
"No One Told Him"- A song about relationship issues. Another Lizzy style straight ahead Rocker. And another catchy sing along chorus. Also features some very cool drum triplet patterns throughout.
"Fats"- This is really different for Thin Lizzy. A Funky Jazzy syncopated bass and drum song. Interesting chord structures with an expressive piano solo. Solid blues rock lead vocals from Phil. Standout guitar and piano !!
"Mexican Blood"- Lynott's story telling at its finest. A latin rock feel with the emphasis on rock. Features creative percussive timbales and even some marimba style mariachi playing.
Excellent percussion and drums.
"It's Getting Dangerous"- A Lynott story teller again and its a good one. Lots of drum fills and bass guitar going on. Fine rythym guitar work.
Some interesting trivia surrounding Thin Lizzy:
1. Band spokesperson Scott Gorham nicknamed the band, The most unproffessional proffessional band in the industry. Because they were always late for there gigs.
2. Thin Lizzy didn't start their first tour of the US until 1975. They were backing up Bob Seger and Bachman Turner Overdrive.
3. Drummer Brian Downey and Phil Lynott were school mates and remained close, both proffessionally and personally for many years.
Listen and Ye Shall Hear !!
There Is A Little Renegade In All Of Us !!
three and one-half stars. Period!.......2005-02-09
Billed by myself as the "forgotten Thin Lizzy album" Renegade often gets maligned like the other Snowy White effort "Chinatown". I'll say that "Renegade" is not quiet as good as "Chinatown" it is, however, a high quality effort from a then veteran band working against the tide of new british metal and american alloy bands that were sweeping the music scene. As with "Chinatown" guitarist Snowy White make his mark with the stream-lined boogie number "Leave This Town" (a Sugar Blues re-deaux)that is in the dance friendly hard rock vein that Thin Lizzy has always mined with great sucess. "Angel of Death" and the tital track are always in my Thin Lizzy mix tape I make from time to time for long road trips (they're that good). Other tracks are equally sublime with "Fats" most notably jumping out as an incredible ode to jazz great Fats Domino. "Hollywood" is another winner from this lineup with Phil's lyrics and vocals carrying the song. In many ways this is still vintage Lizzy, but it has a then modern sound to it that causes friction among many LIzzy purists. Renegade is basically just another quality entry to Phil Lynott's legacy of making top notch quality hard rock. A genre that has few bands of much noteriety over a career that lasted as long as Thin Lizzy. Pick it up if you haven't heard it, or ignored it in the past.
This album deserves at least 3 stars!.......2003-06-01
I had to write this review since the only other one rated this at two stars. This album is better than that and deserves at least 3 stars. This was a transitional album for the group for sure. It introduced Darren Wharton (Keyboards) into a permanent role with the band and without the experimentation that happened here, Thunder & Lightning probably would've never existed. Yes it plays with many different styles, but it is also unmistakably Thin Lizzy. It is true that Snowy White probably wasn't the best fit for this band while he was a member, but his contributions are still noteworthy. There is no Thin Lizzy record that rates less than 3 stars during the dual guitar lineups. This CD is essential in determining where the progression to Thunder & Lightning came from and is a worthy addition to any Thin Lizzy collection.
Not the Lizzy Sound - Too Experimental.......2003-03-19
This is one of my least favorite Thin Lizzy albums. I respect Snowy White as a guitar player (seeming to prefer a jazzier style on his solo work), but he really didn't gel with Thin Lizzy (though he was on "China Town" - a much better album, and his lack of a hard edge seemed to bring Scott Gorham more to the front aggressively). Phil and Scott were drained during this period due to addictions.
'Hollywood' seems to be their best work on the album followed by 'Renegade'. 'Angel of Death' has a gloomy message but doesn't fit the life in the streets format so classic of Thin Lizzy. 'Leave this Town' seems to be a copy of ZZ Top's style while 'Fats' and 'Mexican Blood' go off into styles (semi-night club and some type of Spanish folk) with words that are very unlike the hard driving or bluesy ballads so expected of this band. I was glad to hear their hard edge return on their next album "Thunder and Lightning".
If you are new to Thin Lizzy and checking out their LP's, you may want to take a listen to the sample tracks and look at the more classic years with Brian Robertson. If you like Snowy White "Chinatown" is a much better album.
I am a Huge Thin Lizzy Fan, but this album doesn't have the depth and creativity of most of their other albums.

Back once again.......2002-01-20
The renegade masters remix collection is pretty good. The Fat Boy Slim remix is one of my favorites. I own it on vinyl as well and it gets a lot of turntable time.
Hell yeah.......1999-10-26
Its hard to believe that two versions of the same song could becould be so much opposites. The Fatboy Slim remix is just what you would expect out of a BS pop band like them. Super fast annoying vocals punctuated with "GO-GO-GO!". The urban takeover is absoluteley sick, one of my all time favorites.
It'll definitely get you moving.......1999-06-30
This single is packed full of energy, Fatboy Slim works his magic on the first track and gets down to business in the first 2 seconds of the song. Urban Takeover hits with some hard high hats and deep bass to give you that rave/club sound that gets you in the mood to get out the ol' strobe light and have some friends over. The original song is packed full samples that are easy to play with which makes this song a great candidate for remixing. I've had this cd for a year and a half and it still is on the top 10 of my collection. You will like this is if you are into music by Fatboy Slim, or the Freestylers. -- A very good buy.

of course the majority of you were probably drawn to it cause of the fatboy slim remixes. i think they suck. the best mix on the cd is the Urban Takeover mix. no one is touchin that beat. i bought this record as soon as it came out which was about a year ago and i'm still spinnin it in my sets. you want true jump up jungle pick it up for the Urban Takeover mix.
