Nude Dimensions: Naked Music, Vol. 1 - The Petalpusher Session Mixed By Miguel 'Migs'.......2007-05-06
This CD is amazing. Every track on the cd is top notch music.
Just Awesome!.......2006-09-11
I dont plan on writing a review of all the CDs I own, but this one is one of my favorites.
I am a newly re-born house-head. The house beast has been asleep for over 15 years and then I came across Mr. Migs by way of some of the reviews I read here on Amazon. And I learned how much the music has grown and matured and become so sofisticated! My children even tell me they like "my music" LOL!
If you like Deep House, you must own this disc. This CD has great fidelity, it thump, thump, thumps while I am at work or while I am commuting in traffic or when I am cleaning.....just whenever!
Do yourself a favor and pick it up. You will not be sorry!
Sexy naked music.......2006-07-04
As a fan of club/dance/ambient music in general, I would always find an artist that I liked and look desperately for their music always afraid to venture into compliations in fear of having a few songs that I knew I wouldn't like.
This is certainly not the case with Nude Dimensions.
Miguel Migs (petalpusher who I liked anyways) has done wonders in this seemless transition that takes you high then brings it back down to cool and just leades you through a musical experience only a fan of such music could truely appreciate.
Great CD.......2005-12-31
This is a great CD for anyone who is even a "moderate" house music fan. Great beats, sets the chill-out mood to a level to where you and you significant other will be comfortably naked. This is a must buy.
return .......2005-10-16
its been a long long time
and still ........
this cd (& nd2,nd3) IS the house, a home of desire for better music a better dream a better love, and this desire will never fade.
Its good for your soul ...

This is Love.......2007-06-27
Love it, this is one of my favorite cd's I had to replace because I listen to it so often. One of the best in all the cd's I own. Actually I'll go play it right now, that's a good idea. I love it, when you listen to it, you'll see. Just get it!!!!!!
Naked Music at his best!!!.......2007-03-01
i bought the entire collection of Naked-Music, and i don't have regrets. It is sexy, fresh and more important it never gets old. I have been listening to this CD for 7 years now, and yesterday i coundn't resist no more and i bought it. I'm glad that i did. For those who said that it's boring, i feel sorry. Sometimes people don't understand what's unique and glamorous and what's not???, or just because they don't have the class to see it. So let me tell you this: you invite some friends, get some of your best cloth, make your favorite drink put some food on the coffee table and enjoy, nobody can stop you know, the Frank Sinatra on you is back, and wants to party a lot.
Cheers!!!
as boring as ...........2007-01-16
This album contains track after track that sound the same both within the track and as each other.
Insuperable segunda entrega.......2006-12-22
Soothingly cool.......2006-06-13
Amateurs of sexy lounge look no further...when it's time to refresh those cocktails, wind down and pump up your night accompanying crew, pop this well balanced soother.Dream like moments should be shared listening to this life loving recording.
It introduces glamorous like vocals (Superficial) and from the first beat, gets your system ready for further moves.: Mig's remix of "Pure" unwinds the intro and prepares the mood, it's "delicate and dancy", "Chocolat" follows through with a stronger tempo and more funkiness, no vocals, just a three step tempo, "I need you in my life" gets clearly clubby and that old style bass line will defo get you pumping by then. "True love" evolves in a more musical note, it has a romantic feel but the beat it still very present, beat which intensifies again with "Keep it coming" (right words...), the vocals gets wavy, it has deep house feel to it. Just great crescendo. "The limit" would perfectly belong in a Kruder&Dorfmeister selection as it gets airy and the repetitive keyboards with distorting sounds has that trip lounge impression. "Big ben" has a jazzy/latin type of guitar in the back, "Losing control" gets savvy and sexy in its vocals, silky roughness of a female, "Sincere", "Got 2 B U" have the same tone again, clubby and sexy. "Could you love me" by now should have your party prancing like top models in every corner of your pad with its heavy and regular beat and a disco like bass. "The power" has a break beat and even funkier singing.
"Always" the finale by the talented Lisa Shaw will leave you saliving for more as it winds down soothingly in its coolness. Lisa just wraps you with her charm and her whispering warmth blends beautifully with the soft easiness of the ensemble.
OK, refresh those cocktails again...and get that music bouncin'.

WoW....dam.......2007-07-19
This is one of the greatest house music compilations ever. I mean, it is the epitome of deep house. This is what deep house should sound like.
I'm in luv with this CD even though i bought it about 2 years ago.
The first song is banging as hell, i couldn't stop dancing when I heard it, haha..... I recommend this CD to everyone out there, not just the house lovers but for everyone......... go get it now !!!!
Addictive to the core dance music.......2007-07-06
San Francisco DJ sensation Miguel Migs creates a very appealing mix in Nude Tempo One. Not since his 'Get Salted Vol #1' does the energy level go through the roof. This CD is extremely addictive.
The opening cut, 'Endless Bow' by Hijame Yoshizawa sets the theme for the CD with its unrepentant beat and musical bends. I loved La Onda's 'Happiness is Free' with its crisp vocals and awesome editing. My favorite was 'Soul 2 Let Go' and 'Atmospheric Beats' These songs show the talents of Miguel Migs musical abilities: Taking relatively good songs and making them great.
No Miguel Migs CD could be without the wonderful voice of Lisa Shaw. In Nude Tempo One she sings both 'Ultimate High' and the fade-in to Mindflight's 'Release' (just humming, but she sounds just awesome!).
I recommend this CD to anyone who wants dance music without the standard 140 beats per minute beat bomb CD's currently posing as Dance music. Miguel Migs Nude Tempo One is both listenable and danceable. Best of all, once your friends listen to this CD, they will want to borrow it!
This CD is a B-U-Y!
Musical Ecstasy.......2006-09-11
This is simply the best chilled-out/Deep House I own. This disc and Mr. Migs get 5 Platinum Stars for this one....
The transition between tracks 2 and 3 is pure genius!!
Miguel Migs is my antidote for the craziness of today's world. After listening to his music, I am renewed!!
An awesome CD.......2006-06-22
57 other people say it's awesome, too.
Unfortunately, it doesn't have the song sample tracks, but if you like anything about smooth down-tempo house or soulful vibes then you'll like this cd. Surely you've bought a cd without knowing what it's gonna all sound like, and I'm here to tell you this is a good gamble. This cd is awesome.
good for what it is.......2006-02-13
I expected this cd 'quite nievely' to be a a loungie deep house cd. Which it is to some extent, but it has so much jazz that "I" can't appreciate the groove. # 14 is my standout track, i had to go buy the record so i could play it at my club.
Well worth the money if you are a jazz/house enthusaist.

Given that the B-52's 1998 greatest-hits package, Time Capsule, comprehensively surveyed their best and most commercially pervasive missives while including a newly recorded track, "Debbie"--inspired by Debbie Harry and reprised wholesale on Nude on the Moon--it's fair to question the wisdom of this sprawling two-disc set. While new edits, live versions, and remixes pad the sessions and are nice and all, wigged-out chestnuts like "52 Girls," "Rock Lobster," "Dance This Mess Around," "Planet Claire," "Love Shack," and "Roam" really goose the action. That said, revisiting the perennial fashion risks from Athens, Georgia, remains a rare joy. Those old enough to remember the group's landmark Saturday Night Live debut--those wigs, that suit, those far-out gyrations!--will look back fondly not just on the B-52's florescent musical bounty but on the weirdly enduring resonance of their interstellar psychobabble. --Kim Hughes

Better than I thought.......2007-06-08
I just wanted to buy something that I would like to play in my car when I'm not alone, because I like heavy metal music, so not everyboby likes Rock. But I was surprised when I started to listen those cds (2). At first, they have very good package, nice and the book...well is something else. But this music is amazing. Ok, I made a mistake, my family (the older) wont like this music, I should buy Yanni for them, so I took B52 for me¡¡¡ even if I'm listening Slayer.... it works, because is fresh, easy listening and also still hard music¡¡¡
Worth Every Penny.......2005-11-26
Nude On The Moon-The B-52's Anthology is the most definitive B-52's collection released to date. The two disc set was released by Rhino in 2002. The set includes 35 songs recorded between the late 70's and mid 90's.
The B-52's experienced their most commercial success with their 1989 album Cosmic Thing. A lot of fans discovered this group from Athens, Georgia at that time. The B-52's had been bubbling under mainstream success for some time and the group had a large cult fan following thanks to catchy songs like "Rock Lobster," "Private Idaho" and "Give Me Back My Man." The group created the greatest happy pop music of the early 80's. Their album Whammy included the hits "Legal Tender," "Queen of Las Vegas," and "Song For A Future Generation. Those songs are included in the set as well as the song "Trism." The set is broken into two sections "Phase 1," and "Phase 2."
Phase 2 opens with several songs from the groups album Bouncing Off The Satellites. This album was really awesome but failed to really break the group into that top 40 success. The songs from that album included on Nude On The Moon are "Summer of Love" (which was a moderate radio hit and later featured in the movie "Earth Girls are Easy," "Theme For a Nude Beach" (which is a really awesome song,) "Ain't It A Shame," "Wig," "She Brakes For Rainbows," and "Girl From Ipanema Goes to Greenland." There was a video released for "Girl From Ipanema Goest To Greenland," not sure of which other songs from Satellites were released as videos.
Next up are the songs from the popular Cosmic Thing album. Nude on the Moon includes 7 singles from Cosmic Thing, pretty much the entire album with the exception of "Bushfire," "Dry County," and "Topaz." The big hits like "Love Shack" and "Roam" are all here.
It's a really great CD if you enjoy the B-52's. The color booklet is really awesome and I learned so much about the group from reading the booklet. There are just so many great songs on this CD you will really be pleased with this purchase.
A 35-Song Collection from "The B-52's"!.......2005-11-06
Early in 2002, the rock band from Athens, GA known as "The B-52's" was able to release a two-CD set of their greatest-hits in an album entitled "Nude On The Moon: The Anthology". Unlike their earlier single-CD greatest hits album from 1998 entitled "Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation", "Nude on the Moon: The Anthology" does not feature any new songs; but does include twice as many of their wonderful songs recorded between the years of 1979 to 1998. Thus, all 35 songs included on "Nude on the Moon: The Anthology" are from the following albums: their self-titled album from 1979, "Wild Planet" (1980), "Mesopotamia" (1982), "Whammy!" (1983), "Bouncing Off the Satellites" (1986), "Cosmic Thing" (1989), "Good Stuff" (1992) and one of the two new songs that was included on their 1998 greatest hits album "Time Capsule: Songs for a Future Generation". My ratings for each of the 35 songs included on this two-CD album are listed below:

Overall, I rate the 2002 two-CD album "Nude On The Moon: The Anthology" by "The B-52's" with a resounding 5 out of 5 stars and highly recommend it to anyone that loves fantastically fun music! I can't wait to hear the new album that "The B-52's" are reportedly working on for a release sometime in 2006. Many thanks go to the individual members of "The B-52's": Kate Pierson, Cindy Wilson, Ricky Wilson (1953-1985), Fred Schneider and Keith Strickland!
Good stuff..........2004-12-21
Rhino should get an award for improving the quality of life for its customers. This collection is a blast. In addition to all their "good stuff", it includes a couple of re-mixes and live versions of "Whammy Kiss" & "Quiche Lorraine". The booklet alone gets five stars. There are tons of cool photos of this photogenic band and lots of memorabilia to look at. 50 pages of info including an essay by each band member and a very informative, well written history of the band written by Rolling Stone writer Michael Azerrad.
Think back to 1979. Toto was the biggest band happening. The B-52's sounded like no one else then or since. Unlike most other artists I can't pick out any influences. Everything is totally original. When I first heard Rock Lobster I loved it, but I figured it to be just a novelty song. Then they became the greatest party band in college dorm history.
It was interesting listening to these 35 songs chronologically because it's like living through their ups and downs. From their rise out of college radio to how they dealt with Ricky Wilson's death to their amazing comeback with Cosmic Thing which went quadruple platinum.
Their best albums were the ones that they co-wrote as a band due to their great chemistry and there weakest moments were when they tried to be serious like when they worked with David Byrne. It's amazing to me that what was once new & exciting music is now 26 years old. Where has the time gone?
Wacky, Wonderful memories, get this one!!!!.......2004-08-06
As with the 98' Retrospective, "NUDE ON THE MOON"(2002) the anthology
has great songs on both cds. A few edits, some live stuff and
my favorite of all the pictures in this booklet are just too much. I had gotten away from the 52's after the Love Shack comeback and have been just crazy about this classic blast of
a creative party band. I saw them live for the first time up
at the HAMPTON BEACH CASINO last month, an ocean haunt from my youth and what a perfect place to see the 52's. The people went crazy dancing the mess we all made around..
to see the 52's- on nude beach with the sand on the land out to
sea they took us. Re-Discovering the great "Bouncing off the Satellites" which features 6 songs, very dramatic especially
Cindy Wilson. This is a band very worthy of rediscovering cause
lets face it, they don't make music worth crap anymore, nothing
like these guys put out during their peak creative period from
late 70's into the 90's, they sing and play, have a blast and
boy these songs still sound great, entertaining is in their blood, great party band and
this 2 cd anthology is perfect for summer or anytime you want
to move those tired ol bones.

Distilling Iggy Pop's work down to 17 songs is nearly impossible. Anyone with an interest in Mr. Pop should first pick up the Stooges albums before exploring his later solo years. This collection, however, includes enough highlights to satisfy a casual fan. The Stooges are lightly covered with the essential punk anthem "I Wanna Be Your Dog" and the manic "Search and Destroy." The inclusion of the slinking "Sick of You" is a nice touch. Pop's pop leanings pop up with "Nightclubbing," "China Girl," and "Lust for Life," tracks in which the guitars are toned down a notch and Iggy exhibits a slightly more mellow side. Of course, he ultimately returns with a vengeance befitting one of rock's original wild men. --Rob O'Connor

Iggy at his best!.......2007-05-22
All the Iggy songs that get stuck in your head in one place. The possibility of scaring your coworkers with your music is a definite bonus.
An essential purchase...........2006-06-06
..if you are a complete DORK! Iggy Pop changed his name from James Osterberg when he found out he was too dumb to spell it correctly. He was also a member of The Stooges but that group was never the same after Curley died.
Be that as it may, they included a few Stooges tracks here... but the first half of the cd is pretty much disposable.
It gets better after, and including, 'Real Wild Child'. That's when Iggy tried to be Bowie, who is another useless blight on the landscape of rock'n'roll. Bowie, like others of limited talent, kept reinventing his "image" because that's ALL he could sell to a gullible public. He had NO talent for music whatsoever. Iggy is pretty much the same. He resorts to exposing his genitals on stage, and he only has credibilty with overly simplistic village idiots. Mr. Pop even made an album called, quite appropriately, "The Idiot".
There are about half a dozen half-decent tracks on this compilation but all-in-all, it's one big yawn. Buy it if you are not too bright. I mean, they say "A fool and his money are soon parted."...why should YOU break that cycle??
Overrated........2005-03-17
I never really saw what was so great about Iggy Pop.
He was hyper and screamed. so what? So does my two year old son.
embarrassing evidence of how aging causes one to suck.......2005-01-09
When I got this album, I truly thought that Iggy Pop was the perfect candidate for a greatest hits compilation. He's got a dozen decent hits scattered across a dozen mediocre albums, and it would seem logical that gathering those songs together would produce one nearly perfect album.
How wrong I was. Instead, by sequencing these 17 songs in chronological order, "Nude & Rude" just provides a handy step-by-step guide for charting Iggy Pop's mortifying decline from Detroit wildman to crapola alt-rock crooner. Some of these songs are outright embarrassing. "Kill City" borders on arena rock parody, and "Home"--the second single of Iggy's comeback "Brick by Brick"--is excrutiating. Listening to Iggy croon "home boy, home boy" is agony. The folky duet "Candy" is still a guilty pleasure, but "Real Wild Child"--arguably the biggest hit of Iggy's career--has fittingly become the theme song of Carnival Cruise Lines, where middle-aged porkers saddle up at all-you-can-eat buffet, before enjoying Kathie Lee Gifford on the ledo deck.
Some of the best songs here are still the one's David Bowie wrote. "Lust for Life", "Nightclubbing", and "China Girl" all hold up nicely as perfect pop songs. Ironically, however, it's Bowie's mediocre mix of "Search & Destroy" and "Gimme Danger" present here, instead of the far superior remix that Iggy issued later.
For the most part , this is TRASH.......2004-11-11
I spun this disk only a few times before I decided to sell it back. This is mostly just trashy, unexciting rock n'roll without much in the way of decent songwriting. I might've held onto it to hear "Lust for Life," but that song has lost most of its swaggering power since it's become commercialized.
I also might've held on to this disk if it had my favorite Iggy track "Repo Man" which should've been in this collection. Alas, it's not and I just can't be bothered with the rest. I guess I'll just go get the "Repo Man" soundtrack which is far more enjoyable than this dreck. =)

Music Poetry Romance.......2007-03-08
Don't be put off by the negative comments judge for yourdelf as I did. I found this by accident looking for some romantic music for my lady and that is exactly what I found. Now I need to see the film. The music conjures up such a feeling, relax listen and enjoy. Imagine moonlight skys, the sea gently lapping along the shoreline, candlelit dinners with the one you love. This will leave you with a warm feeling and if not then you will not know romance. The poetry is warm sensitive and well read, a bonus to the CD.
Il Postino (Le postier).......2007-02-01
Excellent album. En plus de la musique originale du film, plusieurs lectures de poëmes de Pablo Neruda par des acteurs et actrices de renom, sur fond musical.
True Romantic Cd - www.michaelpalmer.net.......2006-12-18
If you are a true romantic, you will love this cd, even IF you are not a fan of some of the famous stars who read the poetry - I know I am not a fan of most of these actors, but it does not take away from the excellence of this soundtrack. If you like this cd, please look at the tv series Beauty and the Beast cd. It is called "Of Love and Hope". It is a must have cd.
lovely!.......2006-09-07
The musical score is haunting without resorting to melancholy. It befits Pablo Neruda's timeless poems. Highly recommended, even if not all of the poetry readings are well executed.
WHAT DID THEY DO?!.......2006-04-01
What is this trash?! This film is beautiful but the soundtrack sucks big time. They should have used the actor who was playing Pablo Neruda to read the poems in ITALIAN! It's a beautiful and romantic language but no..they screw it up with actors from the U.S. OMG! I HATE JULIA ROBERTS! she makes the soundtrack even worse. I spit on this cd! believe me..I would so give this trash 0 stars but amazon doesn't allow it!

Excelent music to relax.......2007-03-26
Great music to listen with a bottle of wine and good company.
Simply the best..........2007-01-12
This series is the epitome of smooth, elegant, sexy deep house. Should be listened to with the lights down low and the volume up high.
Another solid Naked Music Release.......2006-09-30
This may not be as deep as vol.1 & 2, but you can't go wrong with a naked music realease that features Lisa Shaw, Miguel Migs and Blue Six. Overall very enjoyable.
Great Follow UP!!.......2006-01-10
This is a great follow up to the perfection of vol II. Volume three is not as great thought but still worth buying. Due to the stand out of "rain" by Gaelle I am officially a Naked-Music fan. I hope they come out with volume 4.
No.3, the Evolution. A nod to the past, an eye to the future..........2005-07-20
Understandably, No. 3 was always going to have a huge task ahead of it, what with Mauricio Avilles showing the competition how it's REALLY done on Naked's 2nd installment. Described as 'a snapshot of the wide spectrum of dance being produced around the world today', that is exactly what it is and how it should be received. Although i'm sure alot of fans were expecting the Naked Crew to up the ante and completely re-invent the mix Cd after Vol.2, (I, for one, would never have bought another deep house mix Cd ever again if Naked had pulled it off, there'd be no need to!) comparisons are a little unfair on Vol.3. Where 2 was dripping in straight up sexiness, 3 is the chilled comedown for the most part. Although really GOOD, it makes u wanna exhale and go, "I wish u hadn't done that J.Mark Andrus", in places. These moments are what keeps it from being a GREAT mix. Ok, good is good, but great is better! and that's what we've come to expect from the Naked crew. Nevertheless, still a very strong offering, definately a must have in ur collection...

Unexpectedly great album!.......2003-07-06
So here's yet another indie band whose hard work languishes in a few used bins. The record is actually one of those great sleepers. If you enjoy Fountains of Wayne or The Odds - check this out.
Sad, funny, great rock and roll.......2001-07-27
I bought this at a second-hand CD store when I sold a bunch of vinyl LPs and accumulated so much credit I didn't know how to spend it. Fortunately, I stumbled across this gem, from a hard-working Canadian band that has gone through several iterations but really got it all together on this disk. I'm So F**king Happy, I'm Not Like Madonna....it's pensive, sometimes dark, always tongue in cheek.

Very Good and Original.......2006-08-13
I had this cd given by a friend, i said id keep an open mind and gave it a listen, im glad i did. Its not often you find a diamond of an album. if your open minded about anything buy this. The singers voice is very good, as a "rock" album its good till you peel away and find an almost new and original sound.
I heard the first song Turquoise, from its starting bass line i was hooked and could to an extent predict the course of the music till the chorus kicked in, lyrically its excellent.
Thrown Away, if you dont like this song theres something wrong with your musical taste buds. The opening build up to the song was done well and set the stage to some of the best lyrics i have heard in a long time, every part of the song is good and worthy of best song on the album.
Next was Dont Take Your Love Away, the haunting piano to start with sets a nice ballad, it reaches out and inspires the ears to yearn for more from the orchestral strings, repetative at times but one of those songs you dont want to finish.
Next was Be With Me, again another best song wannabe, its a song of lyrics put to damned good effect, a truly magnificent song, musically a crossroad of sounds and change, find the lyrics and sing along with it, you wont regret it.
Lost starts with a sample of truly peacefull singing, the singer (Jon Crosby) uses his voice to set a tone of miserable delight and will have your eyes closed and pondering the meaning of the song.
Winter in my Heart is an quiet ambient setting with meaning and a ballad like no other, simple songs are sometimes the best
I Need To Say Goodbye again a good song, lyrically this song is tormented and yearns to belong but is betrayed, the words come naturally and strong, a ballad to throw against an ex to find strength from. the close of the song is uplifting.
Japanese Fantasy, HMM i couldnt understand this song at all, it seemed a cluster nut of sounds but with a rolling beat and changes worthy of their own songs, it fits on this album but belongs with their first or second alblum. good but filler.
Ecstacy, the start is catchy and youll be humming it after a few listens. its sets a great tune then you get to the chorus and find yourself on a different level, two songs put together with contrasting effect, but fitting.
Candle, again another strum/rolling song with great music but reminds me of the early Cure guitar style.
I Can Say No To You, the opening beat to bass line is of legend and uncannily marched me into the relam of this song, lyrically this guy can write them well and good. A great song set in another haunting place.
Desert Garden, i didnt like it, full of emotions and meanings, a solo effort with a guitar, well done but not my cup of tea, an album good bye song.
Mixed Feelings.......2006-06-28
It is clear that Jon Crosby is quite brilliant, but with all three of Vast's albums, I feel the same way- one or two amazing songs, a couple of ok songs, then a bunch that fall short of their potential for some bizarre reason or another. I feel like so many songs are almost there, but get screwed up in some way.
For example, on their (his) first album, I loved "Here" and "Touched", but songs like "Temptation" and "Pretty When you Cry" start out great, but then fizzle, and get boring. Even on "Touched" he hits this key that just seems off, and it almost ruins it for me (does anyone know what I'm talking about?). The lyrics in general are pretty god awful, sounding like they were written by an uneducated, horny 14 year old ("Dirty Hole" is a blatant example)
On Music for People, "A Better Place" is simply incredible, and "Land of Shame" is pretty cool too. But "My TV and You" fizzles halfway (the chorus is so great, but he only sings it once), "Blue" has this awful cartoonish horn that ruins it for me, he hits a weird key again in "Song Without a Name", and "I don't have anything" isn't bad, but the amateurish lyrics don't work in such a sweet ballad.
So too with "Nude". "Thrown Away" is Crosby's greatest song ever. I can listen to it over and over again. "Turquise" is good too, but others are a bit boring. "Don't take your love away" is just too long, and other songs sound too much like songs I've heard on other albums. I suppose one reviewer put it well in writing that there doesn't seem to be a whole lot of artist growth with this album.
Conclusion: It is worth getting all of VAST's albums for the one or two songs that will blow you away on each album. But this is a band that when they put out a greatest hits album and you hear that, you won't be missing much by not hearing everything they ever wrote.
Something to be cherished! (review of all three in one).......2006-05-23
I too am like many of the other reviewers who have been fortunate enough to have accidentally stumbled upon John Crosby and his project, VAST. My opinion is a bit different than others here, but the end result is the same.
I picked up the debut first, and had mixed feelings. I loved the voice, and I loved most of the cd, however, the dream that I had read about was not quite fulfilled. While I absolutely loved several songs, others left me wanting.
My next step was to pick up Music For People. This disc was a bit more straight forward rock. It still had the chanting and the acoustic guitar from a master like Crosby was well in tact. This disc had more of a radio friendly sound, perhaps it simply was not quite as obscure, as some of the debut was (not that obscure is bad.....not at all). This made me look again at the debut. The debut was much better after listening to Music For People.
Next, on to NUDE. The opening track, Turquoise....stunning. Next up is Thrown Away. Breath taking, stunning, epic, grand, enchanting, cosmic, in a nuttshell,,,,,,,special. The rest of the album is simply awesome. Crosby's voice, his strumming, his poetry......all of it, simply put......this is an epic adventure.
Once again this made me re-think the debut. Upon a current listen (May 21, 2006), this too is an amazing cd.
Truthfully, it is hard to pinpoint a "best" record. I enjoy them all for different reasons, and each one fits a different mood. All of the discs favor the more mundane and meloncholy side of life, but there is a JOY weaved in with the moodiness.
Be warned however. None of the discs that I have purchased have contained a parental advisory lable. Each cd does contain the "F" word.....be it once or a mere handful of times. It is usually limited to a single song, but it is there. The debut has it in one song but it is repeated four times in one stanza (the shame being that it is not necessary and it is in a great, great song).
As far as comparisons go, here too is where I vere to the left of normal. While there are definately industrial elements to some of the newer material, the samples, strings, and acoustic elements are always there. John Crosby reminds me a lot of Travis Meeks, from Days of the New (both tend to make records by themselves). The second record from DOTN, the GREEN album especially have strong ties to all of VAST's material. Travis and Crosby are two of the most talented musicians I have ever come across (which is saying something for a 36 year old fellow).
Do yourself a favor and look into John Crosby. If you are looking for something left of the fringe, music that is not top 40, and not american idol, but still music that is riveting and relevent, give this a try. I for one don't know how you can be disappointed.
This is a STRONG CD.......2006-03-25
My sister turned me on to this artist after hearing his work in a surfing video. The music is just different enough to engage. I strongly recommend getting this CD. His guitar work is mui cool.
4 stars, but don't buy it, just read on, trust me..........2006-03-07
I was looking at VAST's new CD "Turquoise & Crimson" which is a 2 CD set... I've heard some of "Nude" before and i like it, but i noticed w/ their new 2 CD one out right now... every single song that is on "Nude" is on their cd "Turquoise & Crimson" EXCEPT for the song "Japanese Fantasy"... so you could save yourself the money and just buy "Turquoise & Crimson" which has alot more other songs on it as well the ones on "Nude" and just by that one instead of buying "Nude"..
Also their other cd called "A Complete Demonstration" is up for sale as well.
Here is their website.... amazon doesn't sell these 2 new ones yet...
