Product Description
Formed in Solingen, Germany in the early 70s by wild and crazy frontman, Udo Dirkschneider, Accept forged their way to the top of the 80s metal ranks with their brutal and heavy riffs and Udo's trademark screeching banshee styled vocal trait. Distinctly original and instantly recognizable, Accept conquered seemingly the entire planet outside the USA. With such classic albums as Restless And Wild, Breaker, I'm A Rebel and Accept finally seeing mid-price status, those Stateside best be keeping their ears open and their balls to the wall!
Udo Dirkschneider: "What every musician dreams turned into a reality for us, now that we had a record deal. When listening closely to this album, you can already hear the Accept sound. Without a doubt this album brought notice to the German rock scene. Naturally it was very exciting for us the first time we entered a recording studio but also disappointing at the same time. Of course, we expected that song we recorded would be the same as the song we had written. I remember that it was a fight for us to push our ideas into the foreground. I believe that they wanted to make a pop band out of us, but at the end, we got our way."
All of the Accept Super Value Re-Release series feature booklets with new liner notes, historical reminiscents and comments by Udo Dirkschneider, never before seen photos and memorabilia. And all at a cool price!

Classic Metal.......2007-01-26
This is by far the best Accept album as far as I'm concerned. Balls To The Wall and London Leather Boys are worth it alone. I got to see them live with the Scorpions in Madrid, Spain and they put on a great show.
The rest of the songs are pretty good too, but sometimes Udo's voice gets a little much with his screaming. However, that is a minor thing and not even worth knocking this review down a star.
This is great stuff and I highly recommend it.
All Balls to the Wall.......2007-01-18
Accepts best album! Classic 80's rock in the vain of the mighty AC/DC before the hair band craze hit the radio.
TIMELESS, QUALITY, GUT-WRENCHING METAL!!!.......2006-12-27
Simply put, they don't make quality Heavy Metal like this anymore (harder to find these days)! Searing hot, snarling, fist and teeth clenching, bombastic, highly structured and serious killer Metal riffing and leads with great songwriting and vocals. Udo Dirkschneider (vocals) and Wolf Hoffman (lead guitars) may very well be one of the all-time great hard rock/metal duo's in the business. Just a superb, genre-leading metal masterpiece!!!
It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This !!!.......2006-12-08
Balls To The Wall is not only one of the greatest Accept albums of all times,it is truly one of the greatest metal albums of all time! In fact, along with "Holy Diver" from Dio,"Pyromania" from Def Leppard and "Headhunter" from Krokus, this is what I would play for someone who has never heard 80s style metal. It's really that good. Accept is one of my favorite bands and this CD has all the reasons for that. Udo has never sounded better with his trademark screaming vocals (no one sounds quite like him,no one,and that's the sign of a legend),Wolf is in top form as usual for great lead guitar work and the rest of the band is just awesome. As great as this is,it is not my favorite Accept album, that honor goes to the one that followed this "Metal Heart" but in all fairness I'm a sucker for melody and that was their most melodic album. However, when it comes to THE classic Accept sound, you simply can't beat this. It has the radio smash hit "Balls To The Walls" the amazing "London Leather Boys", and so much more. Every song on here is a classic and how many CDs can you truly say that about? This CD was my first taste of Accept. I was at a concert in 1983 (it was a Kix concert being from Pennsylvania where they played alot) and my favorite memory of that night was not the concert itself (which was great too) it was the CD they played before the concert. I heard this fantastic song called Head Over Heels, then I heard "Turn Me On" then I heard "Love Child" and then I heard "Balls To The Walls" and at that point I said "I have got to buy this CD" the next day I went to the record store and bought it and listened to it so much I wore out my cassette (thank goodness for CDs). To truly appreciate this masterpiece, you have to really crank up the volume.I recommend this to anyone just discovering Accept or hard rock music in general. It doesn't get much better!
The Pros:Everything. Of course the title track "Balls To The Wall" ,"London Leather Boys", "Head Over Heels" ,the very sexual lyrics to "Turn Me On" the very brave lyrics to "Love Child" (it took a lot of courage to write about homosexual feelings in a metal band),"Losers And Winners" and "Losing More Than You Ever Had".
The Cons:The only thing I can come up with for this,is the guitar sound is a little dryer than the previous release "Restless And Wild" but it still sounds great. The production is awesome and the songwriting is amazing.
The Bottom Line:I can't recommend this highly enough. It is a true masterpiece. The performance and the songwriting. The only other advice I can give about this is play it on 10 to get maximum effect.Donutman says so!!!
Have You Got The Balls?.......2006-09-27
I was a latecomer to Accept. As a kid my doorway to metal was pretty traditional-Metallica, Megadeth, Maiden, Priest. In fact, it wasn't uncommon many years ago to see an Iron Maiden, Anthrax or even Helloween album(cassette usually, sometimes cd. Cd's were still kinda new at the time) at your local WalMart or other department store. Imagine that! Accept didn't really make it there, so I never really knew about them. Many years later I get into them and love it. Balls to the Wall ends a fantastic heavy metal trilogy that started with Breaker and continued with Restless and Wild. These aren't the only good Accept albums, but you'd have to be a fool to call yourself an Accept fan and not have them. Musically it's heavy and midpaced with the occasional speedy number thrown in. Very powerful, very anthematic. Udo is bar none one of the best metal vocalists ever. Sure, on the books he'll always be a second stringer to Halford, Dickinson and Dio, but honestly I personally don't feel he's one iota beneath any of those giants. Modern day metal audiences will just kinda laugh this off as silly, and most folks with any kind of recollection of the band are usually under the impression that Accept were some hair metal band that never quite made it. In fact, Sony (who remastered this cd) placed a big ass sticker on the cover(on mine anyway) that screams Big Hair!! Big Hits!! This pisses me off coz it proves that Sony had absolutely no idea of what they were remastering that day. Anyone who thinks Accept is a silly hair band can take a flying jump at the moon for all I care. Of course in a day when bands like Slipknot and HIM exist, who's to criticize something for being silly? Anyhow, I'm ranting. The point is, I'm not saying anything new to fans of the group, but to those wanting to expand their horizons and have an interest in checking out some of the golden days of heavy metal shouldn't be without this or one of the other two Accept albums. It's Rockin'! It's Udo! It's German! It's Heavy Friggin' Metal!

full circle.......2006-05-28
D+B are the soundtrack of my high school and college years. My albums are literally worn out and I am replacing them with cds--FINALLY! I got this one first as an LP when I was 15. It hasn't aged a bit. I, on the other hand.........well!
A classic!
The start of it all.......2004-04-01
Alot of people don't realize what this album started. This album basically gave the Southern sound a major boost in the arm and brought it to the attention of the rest of the U.S. This album is a great mix of R n B, gospel, R n R and the blues naturally. Bonnie's voice was a breath of fresh air, a voice not accustom to being heard on a R n R station, but that was the beauty of FM back in the late sixties, they were alot more open to hearing and playing what was good, not just the hits.
This album was a boost for Leon Russell too, you can hear his distinctive piano and know he had a lot of influence on the production of this album. I remembering seeing D @ B live on their debut tour,I can't remember who they opened for, but I remember seeing this guy with a beard and wearing a top hat playing the piano, he blew me away - Leon Russel was his name. He followed this by playing on Dave Mason's first solo album after leaving Traffic and his sound is very pronounced on that album.
Eric Clapton after hearing D @ B, he was so influenced by them that he truely wanted to join this band and did for a tour later on and they recorded that and it's available - Delaney and Bonnie On Tour with Eric Clapton.
Without the rythym section of D @ B - Carl Radle and Jim Gordan -you wouldn't of had Joe Cocker's Mad Dogs and Englishmen (put together by Leon Russel including Bobby Keyes and Whitlock on horns) or Eric Clapton's Derek and the Dominoes (along with Duane Allman). As you know Bobby Keyes went on to play with the Rolling Stones and has been there for about 30 years now. On Eric Clapton's first solo effort, if you read the band members, you'll notice that it's Delaney and Bonnie and friends.
This band surely has a rich influence and history in the R n R circus and definitely deserves a listen to if you've never heard
them. R n R owes them a debt in my opinion.
Not taking anything away from their other albums, I just love this one the best - it had quite an influence on me. This is one of my all time favorite albums!!!! ENJOY!!!!
Phenomenal Foundation Recording.......2004-01-20
Amazing recording with Delaney (g), Jim Keltner (d), Jim Price, Bobby Keys (horns), Bobby Whitlock (kb), Leon Russell (p), Carl Radle (b), Jerry McGee (g). Very funky early Southern rock in
L.A. - soon after this Eric Clapton joined band as sideman!
Album features a Mac Rebennack (Doctor John) tune (When This Battle Is Over) and lots more. Like Allman Brothers? Get this!
PHENOMENAL!.......2003-01-29
Amazing CD! It's a must for every Delaney And Bonnie collector.
It's a shame that "HOME" is no longer available on CD. There is a RARE recording called GENESIS. I understand that the songs are actually demos. I have the LP. To my knowledge, it is not available on commercial CD. So much time has passed by that I think every recording should be released on CD.
Before Derek and the Dominos.......2003-01-26
If it hadn't been for Delaney and Bonnie, there might have been no Derek and the Dominos. When you listen to this album, you can hear easily hear the influence. This blues/jazz/gospel sound might have not made Delaney and Bonnie that well-known to the public (except for True Music Fans) but I guarantee you that Eric Clapton knows who they are. After all, he played with them. I have to admit I'm really surprised there are no reviews here. You really should buy this album.

A good solid hard rock album.......2007-01-18
If you liked Balls to the Wall, you'll like this one too. Not as commercially accepted but just as much hard rocking.
Good old fashioned smash mouth metal!!.......2006-09-30
Accept totally rocks with aggressive sounding tunes and a massive wall of thick guitar tone. Udo is a unique vocalist to say the least, but it all comes together here perfectly. The twin guitar attack is to die for and the pounding rhythm section is full at right on the money. Gene Simmons from Kiss thought these guys kicked some serious butt back then and he wasn't wrong! Yes this is 80's metal at it's gnarly best!!
This release along with Balls To The Wall are their best cd's.
Lifeless piece of steel!.......2005-04-16
After listening to this album for so long i finally got a chance to review this wicked work of metal goodness.
Metal Heart was Accept's 6th album and probably the slickest effort they ever released. For the first time Accept were getting a taste of superstardom that another german band,The Scorpions, had already been enjoying for a number of years now. Metal Heart saw Accept as headliners for the first time ever and were now argueably the best metal band in the 85-86 time period. You can talk all you want about Iron Maiden,Judas Preist,Dio-whatever about being the top metal acts of the 80's, but to me these guys were by-far the greatest heavy metal group of the 1980's.I seriously doubt that any band at the time had the virtous skills that these krauts possesed, Wolf Hoffman could of made Murray and Smith (of Maiden) sound poor.Stephan Kauffmann was the fastest metal drumer prior to Dave Lombardo of Slayer. And of course Udo's singing was something i have always loved.
Metal Heart is a fine choice if you are gonna start with on of Accept's albums. It is a commercial one for sure but i feel it is probably the best album they ever made. The title track alone is worth the price of this album, the song Metal Heart has a riff that chuggs along like a panzer. There is also the inexcapable dance metal of MidNightMover. It is important to know that this came out in the prime of the MTV hair metal age, so the move towards commercial metal was to be expected but this was still heavier then anything else being released at the time by those pathetic american pop metal groups.
MetalHeart 10/10, the opening track is one of the heaviest songs they ever wrote, very classicaly influenced and prophetic lyrics about mankinds future.
MidNightMover 10/10, the grooviest track on the album. It was a hit single and it got a video that made you puke from being dizzy.
Up to the Limit 10/7, an average song by Accept standards that is still pretty good.
Wrong is Right 10/11, WOW! this is the fastest song on the album! Udo's bloodcurdling scream kicks it off and it is the closest song to being almost thrash in structer.
Screaming for a Love-bite, 10/9 a infectious song with weird lyrics.
Too High to Get it Right, 10/6 This sounds just a little too much like AC/DC for my taste.
Dogs on Leads, 10/8 a very good song with a slow moody build up that turns into a flat out anthemic rocker.
Teach us to Survive 10/8 not a bad song at all, has some interesting toe tapping beats and the bass gets funky at times.
Livin for Tonight 10/10 Awesome song, it sounds like the Scorpions Big City Nights. It is a strait out @ss kicker with some raspy vocals courtesy of the Tank.
Bound to Fail 10/10 the last song on the album goes out with a bang. From the killer street gang chants in the background to Hoffmanns amazing solo, this is one of the stongest songs on here and a perfect way to close a perfect album.
Accept doesn't get much credit and that is a shame, not many people know about them. It's been twenty years almost since this was released, so why not go pick it up and discover a true metal classic? Accept have also recenty reunited, so that should be a very welcomed reunion indeed. In this age of Linkin park, Slipknot, Jessica Simpson, Black Eyed Peas, Ipods and countless other trendy crap that pollutes the braindead masses, i think this world needs an Accept reunion and tour.
We are glad to have The Tank and his soilders back once again to crush the opposition.
Peace out.
"It's black & blue and it happened to you".......2005-04-15
Accept was the German Judas Priest in the 1980s. They offered the blistering duo guitar assault of Wolf Hoffman and Hermann Frank and the high, raw vocals of Udo Dirkschneider. They released two amazing metal masterpieces before their sixth album Metal Heart (Restless and Wild and Balls to the Wall). Metal Heart came out in 1985 the year after their most famous album Balls to the Wall. To capitalize on their enhanced fame, producer Dieter Dirks (of Scorpions fame) was enlisted to give Metal Heart a more commercial sound and extra sense of melody. More change took place when Jorg Fischer replaced Frank on guitar. Accept's music began to move away from the dark intensity of their previous two records. Though the potential was there for this album to mark a giant fall from the metal mountain top, it ended up being another solid album that offers some amazing tracks.
The title track is solid and was inspired by Tschaikowski and Beethoven (so says the album cover). It sounds a little dated with the "It is 1999..." opening verse but it is one of Accept's better tracks. "Midnight Mover" moves towards the more pop metal sound. I love this track! It is catchy as heck! It is my favorite track on side one. "Up to the Limit" is solid guitar metal. It stands out to me because the guitarists moved in sequence during the verses in the live show I saw on video. It made the song, which I considered average, cooler. "Wrong is Right" flies! It is an adrenaline pumper. "Screaming for a Love Bite" is another thing all together. It has comical lyrics about a vicious hickey on the neck. It is also very pop metal but not the good kind like "Midnight Mover." It seems more of a novelty to me, so I don't take it all that seriously, though I like the guitar in it.
Side two, at first, seems rather dull. I like the opening track "Too High to Get It Right" although it doesn't blow me away. The next two songs don't stand out. "Teach Us to Survive" is a little interesting in that it has a James Bond film sound. "Dogs on Leads" has the customary raw lyrics, but musically is unmemorable. Luckily, Metal Heart ends on two high notes. "Living for Tonite" flat out rocks! It is my favorite on the album. It is got an incredible beat. "Bound to Fail" is a killer track! Awesome number to go out on! They are why I give this album a solid 4-star grade. Well over half these songs are quality (7 out of 10). Two of the lesser tracks are not so much bad as they are unremarkable. "Screaming..." is more silly than terrible. Metal Heart was Accept's last exceptional release. Their next album, Russian Roulette, was not be quite up to snuff and Udo would leave the band after that to start his own project U.D.O. only to return in the early 1990s when alternative music ruled. Recommended for those like me who liked it better in the 1980s when metal ruled.
For metalhearts like myself.......2005-01-23
Ehy you brother metalheart! You that grew up in the eighties. I know you already know this masterpiece and I don't want to teach you nothing ! I know you know how great this album is, no matter what you could think of Udo's voice. I just want to say to you brother to brother that rediscover this album is a pure JOY !!! ... This album defines heavy metal. Not trash, not speed, not hard, not glamour, nothing else. Just pure classic metal the way it was intended to be. Heavy metal. ROCK!!!
A Classic Piece Of Metal History!!!.......2006-12-08
With Restless And Wild Accept finally found the trademark sound that made them a household name in the 80s! Although many would say that they sounded a little too much like Ac/Dc, I and many others would strongly disagree with that. The vocal stylings of Udo are unmistakable and the guitar playing of Wolf is far more technical then that of Angus (over in the Ac/Dc camp). I am a huge fan of both bands but I don't think they are that similar. On Restless And Wild,Accept are far more aggressive then anything on their past albums. In fact,it almost seems too much, all pedal to the metal,so to speak. It is almost undeniable that "Fast As A Shark" is one of the all time greatest songs to open a concert with, and the title cut "Restless And Wild" will no doubt have you singing along, but even with that going in it's favor,I still can't give it above a 3 star review. Accept is one of my favorite bands and I give them complete credit for standing by the style of music they love and never selling out to follow the current musical trend of the month,I'd love to give them higher than a 3,but the songwriting on "Restless And Wild" in my opinion isn't up to the previous outing "Breaker" or the one to follow, the ultimate Accept "Balls To The Walls". It just feels almost too aggressive.
That being said,if you are new to the band, let me recommend "Breaker","Balls To The Wall" or "Metal Heart",after those, this is a great place to go. The monster style is all here. Accept truly ROCKS!!!
The Pros:Absolutely one of the best guitar sounds I've ever heard on CD.Even the follow-up "Balls To The Wall" doesn't have quite the awesome guitar crunch this one has. It also has some killer tunes,"Fast As A Shark" has a fantastic guitar solo, the title cut "Restless And Wild" is very catchy, but my favorite tune on this album is "Princess Of The Night" which has some very cool dynamics. As always,Udo is in top form. The combination of Udo on lead vocals and Wolf on lead guitar is really tough to beat. They both did an outstanding job on this,as did the rest of the band!
The Cons:In my opinion,it's a little too fast paced the whole way through the album. If you love aggressive music and nothing but, this is the album for you,but I like the melodic side that the band shows more on other releases better. Also,a lot of the songwriting was not very memorable on this album as opposed to the previous or the follow-up.
The Bottom Line:Great sounding metal album, all producers of rock should listen to these guitar tones and take notes. A great CD to listen to when you are feeling aggressive. One of their 5 best but not the best place to start. If you're a fan,you should definitely buy this. Donutman says so!!!
Accept's best .......2006-06-13
'Restless And Wild' is the best Accept LP bar none. I would even go so far as to say it's probably the best in all of metal. Nothing hits harder then "Fast as a Shark" when those double bass pedals start wailing away. I have yet to hear a song as intense and heavy as shark is. Metal might not be my favorite type of music but i know when i hear something good, this is it. The whole album is very consistant, lots of heavy tracks like "Restless and Wild", "Ahead of the Pack", "Flash Rockin Man" as well as some slow tunes like "Neon Nights" and "Princess of the Dawn". There is even a ac/dc-like pop tune called "Don't Go Stealing My Soul Away". I also must mention that Wolf Hoffmann's guitar on this album has the definative tone and phrasing for heavy metal, it sets the benchmark for what a heavy metal style guitar should sound like.
Udo may only be 5 feet tall and have a horrible voice, but man, he sure can scream.
This album + Balls to the Wall = heavy metal heaven.......2006-03-17
This rocks.
It starts out with weird German folk music and quickly seques into weird German screaming. And I mean that in the nicest possible way.
Anybody at all wanting to find out about this band and to see what a huge influence they were on later European bands should grab this album and Balls to the Wall.
Tracks like Fast As A Shark and the title track just rip. Udo is in fine form and could the guitars get any more synchomeshed. Demons Nihgt and Flash Rockin' Man - I could name just about every track here. Get stuck into it!
Accept's masterpiece.......2005-08-05
O.K., maybe i was a little harsh on Accept's 'Balls To The Wall' album, but this is a completely differant story.
'Restless And Wild' is the finest album from Accept, not overrated like 'Balls' is, this was probably as heavy as you could get in 82. The overall feeling of this album is very raw and heavy, yet at the same time melodic because of Wolf Hoffmann's classically influenced guitar chops. Even though the production is somewhat primative, the music more then makes up for it in sheer brutallity, i actually prefer the low qaulity production of this as opposed to the over-produced albums Accept would churn out latter in their career. This album gets a lot of credit for being one of the first "thrash" albums, this is mainly because of the first song "Fast As A Shark", which was one of the fastest tunes of that time period, infact, i don't think there was anything THIS fast or intense by ANY metal band back in the pre-Slayer days. Beyond that song you will find even better ones, like the crunchy title track and the frantic "Ahead Of The Pack". The song "Shake your Head" is average headbanging fair, but ending side-one is the fantastic "Neon Nights", it is my favorite Accept song of all time, very atmospheric and epic. Side-two starts with "Get Ready", a catchy little filler song that is all right, then comes "Deamon's Night" which is probably the most underrated Accept song ever written, it is just so effing heavy and agressive! "Flash Rocking Man" is an Accept staple and got played all of the time in their live sets. "Don't Go Stealing My Soul Away" is a attempt at the charts, i don't like it very much, sounds too much like AC/DC. The final song is "Princess Of The Dawn", it was meant to be a concept song and sounds like nothing else these guys have ever done, it is a great number but i wish the mixing engineer or whoever didn't abruptly cut the song off at the end, kinda ruins the qaulity of it.
I wish they countiued in the direction that this album displayed, it would of been great, instead of trying to become a Scorpions ripp-off band like what they did with their next two albums. I guess the success of the Scorpions became a role- modle for all of the german bands trying to make it big.

Great, but incomplete.......2007-04-04
I owned Restless and Wild and Balls to the Wall on vinyl, so I was excited to find the combination of the two on CD. Accept still sounds wonderful, and the music included is among their best. My only disappointment was from not reading the track listing closely enough. I didn't realize that this CD didn't include all of the tracks from both albums, and was disappointed with the songs omitted. If you're not looking for 100% of the songs on both albums, it's a great CD with most of the tracks included. If you're trying to replace your vinyl albums as I was, buy the separate CDs. Either set is well worth a listen.
"They're gonna break their chains".......2005-04-15
At first glance, I thought this was one of the best metal deals on Amazon. The two best albums by the best band from the Fatherland in one package. On closer inspection I have to ask What's Up? The tracks are all mixed up, interspersed between the two albums. Why aren't they in order? Then the biggest problem: the absence of five tracks. If these tracks included the "Love Child," "Turn Me On," and "Losers and Winners" which are the weaker, lyrically peculiar or hedonistic tracks off Balls to the Wall or "Flash Rockin' Man" which is the weakest track off the masterpiece Restless and Wild, I would almost accept it, but the missing tracks include some excellent metal. "Head of the Pack" rocks. "Get Ready" is a furious, adrenaline pumper. "Demon's Night" is a heavy hitter from Restless. "Fight it Back" is one of the best off Balls. "Guardian of the Night" is the only absent track I would not miss that much but I would rather have it. Restless and Wild, in particular, is one of the best metal albums of the 1980s, and is best heard with its tracks in order and all in place. The only thing I can praise about this CD is the price and I hope it will encourage record buyers who are curious about Accept to check them out.
Anyway, here are the tracks offered here reviewed by album in its original order:
Restless and Wild (Accept's 4th album, released in 1983):
Restless and Wild is my favorite Accept album and is in my top 10 metal albums of all time list. The first track is the furious "Fast as a Shark," which probably was a precursor to thrash. "Restless and Wild" was the first Accept track I heard and it remains my all-time favorite of theirs. "Balls to the Wall" is intense, but "Restless," to me, packs a heavier punch and Stefan Kaufmann's fast drum work is incredible. "Shake Your Heads" has that slow metal chanting style Accept is known for. The 6:00 "Neon Nights" is incredible! It has a Judas Priest Defenders of the Faith-era sound (of course, this album came out the year before Defenders). Even with those raw, screeching vocals, Udo puts a lot of emotion in this slower yet intense track. The first track here from side two is "Flash Rockin' Man." It is my least favorite track on Restless but that shows how solid this album is as "Flash" is no slouch but is a dark, intense track with a killer guitar riff at the bridge. "Don't Go Stealing My Soul Away" may be the most accessible song on the record as it has a catchy melody. The guitars really drive this track. Like with "Neon Nights," the second side ends with a long (6:27), slower epic song "Princess of the Dawn." It is an incredible track to end one of the best metal albums of all time.
Balls to the Wall (Accept's 5th album, released in 1984):
Germany's answer to Judas Priest begins this album with their most famous and one of their best tracks. "Balls to the Wall" kicks well what the title suggests or, in my case, something else entirely (I'm a metal chick). While I favor "Restless and Wild" as their best track, "Balls" is incredibly intense. "London Leatherboys" got some attention back in the day, especially coupled with the cover artwork and the band photo on the inner sleeve (in vinyl terms). The cover, of course, has a seductive (well, it depends on what you're into) look at a leather-clad man's hairy leg. The inner sleeve shows Udo in his customary military garb surrounded by his shirtless bandmates (I don't think very many people in the world wanted to see a shirtless Udo). Guitarist Wolf Hoffmann and drummer Stefan Kaufmann even have their arms linked [these photos were on the Balls to the Wall vinyl release, not necessarily included on this CD]. I'm not speculating on anything here, but hearing the German metal demons chanting "London Leatherboys" is a bit unnerving. Still, the song, musically, is good. Moving on, the rest of the tracks on side one are amazing. "Head Over Heels" is a catchy song. The music doesn't follow the lyrics which are very sexually-driven about a man needing to peep at a couple getting hot and heavy in a dark alley. "Losing More Than You Ever Had" is a slower, more accessible track. Unlike Restless and Wild, which is solid from first track to last, the first half of Balls is much better than the second. "Love Child" probably has the most peculiar lyrics: "Feeling the power of lust when the guy's passing by" and more directly "Don't know what I am a woman or a man." "Turn Me On" is just a straight up, raw shot to the groin ("I can't wait to get you down on the dirty floor"). "Losers and Winners" is another odd track. It is very harsh lyrically. It is about a man pining after a woman. Udo advises him to write her a letter expressing his feelings. It is a little comical hearing the German metal gods chanting "Write a letter!" Then the tables are turned: "You should give me the letter I'll use it for my own (haha)" and later "Why don't you take it easy and sc**w the girl who's next to you." Wow, rough stuff. While the music takes center stage on side one, the lyrics seem to overpower the music for most of the songs on side two. It ends with "Winterdreams" which has a nice guitar intro and offers a pleasant, calming mood. It is a slow track but with a more uplifting sound than other slow Accept numbers that are almost always dark. It is a nice way to end the metal brutality of Balls to the Wall. Both albums are highly recommended to any fan of metal.
__DO NOT BUY THIS! __.......2000-07-09
The music is awesome, but this CD doeesn't have all of the songs from the original albums. Believe me, if you like Accept, you'll want to have _all_ of the songs from these albums, particularly "Ahead Of The Pack" from R&W & "Fight It Back" from BTTW, neither of which is on this CD.
Exceptional Accept- The only Accept you need.......2000-07-03
Accept seems a band destined to win the silver and lose the gold. But this compiliation shows that 2nd place can still be pretty good. This CD combines 15 tracks from their 2 strongest albums -Restless & Wild and Ball to the Wall- to provide over an hour of vintage metal, circa '83/'84. The music is pretty derivative of the usual suspects -Judas Priest, AC/DC, and especially the Scorpions- but Accept plays it well. The guitars squiggle & squeal in the right places, the drums are as fast as -well- a shark, and Udo's rusty razor vocals accomplish things they would not seem capable of. What puts Accept ahead of the rest of economy class metal are their lyrics. No songs about demons and wizards or up all night, sleep all day. Like the Scorps, Accept mostly write lyrics about the lives they live, working class rockers chock full of sex, sex, sex. Several songs like Head Over Heels, Love Child, & London Leatherboys are sexually ambiguous; pretty risky for the ultra macho metal of the early 80's. Losing More Than You Ever Hand is one of the most complex breakup songs you'll ever hear and Losers & Winners offers some helpful relationship advice -or else. Of course, the CD closes with Accept's one bonafide smash: Balls to the Wall. I defy you to not sing along. If you like your rock hard, fast, and aggressive Accept no substitutes.
Great songs, questionable arrangement.......1999-10-11
I've never been a fan of compilations, mainly because I thing song selection is questionable on many of them. This album takes 15 songs from the Restless and Balls albums. There are 20 total songs among those two. So why not just add the extra 5 songs and make it a double cd set? I recommend just buying both Restless and Balls cds.

Album Description

As Good as "Restless & Wild" and "Balls to the Wall".......2006-09-27
Accept was a German metal band that sounded like a cross between Judas Priest and AC/DC with a troll as lead singer who sounded like an over-the-top mesh of Bon Scott and Brian Johnson.
Accept released ten studio albums during their career; most cite "Restless & Wild" (1983) and "Balls to the Wall" (1984) as their best recordings. This is true but I feel 1986's "Russian Roulette" stands on a par with these two earlier releases.
Here's a run down of the songs on "Russian Roulette:"
1.) T.V. WAR (3/5 Stars): This is an energetic and fun metal rocker reminiscent of "Fast as a Shark" but not quite as good.
2.) MONSTERMAN (5/5 Stars): "Monsterman" is brief at a mere 3:24, but it's catchy as heck. The bridge is melodically potent and the chorus is uniquely inspired. You'll never hear anything else like it. Who knows what the lyrics are about, who cares?
3.) RUSSIAN ROULETTE (4/5 Stars): This titular song eerily starts off with a militaristic drone and riff before kicking into a mid-paced slice of 80's non-hair-band metal. In light of the chorus lyrics, one wonders why they didn't call the song "Wargames."
4.) IT'S HARD TO FIND A WAY (4.5/5 Stars): This is a catchy pop rocker with an incredibly hook-laden chorus. It should have been a hit on the radio. Some cried "Sell out!" but, come on, it's just ONE song.
5.) AIMING HIGH (3/5 Stars): This isn't a bad piece of filler between the better songs.
6.) HEAVEN IS HELL (5/5 Stars): This is the second masterpiece of the album. It's structure is very reminiscent of "Balls to the Wall," although it doesn't sound like that song. The lyrics are an intriguing commentary on religion and religious people with the conclusion that we experience (or make our own) heaven or hell during our life on this earth. I strongly agree with some of their points and disagree with others but, regardless, the lyrics are not presented in an offensive way. Here's one stanza that I agree with:
I'm sure we all know them
Those perverts, they're everywhere
Mmh, we're talking straight about facts
You know deep inside what's right or wrong
And the world stinks, and the paradise is now a sewer
And they sell sh*t for gold
And you have to take what you've got
As you can see the words are honest, overt, slightly ambiguous and completely brilliant all at the same time.
7.) ANOTHER SECOND TO BE (3/5 Stars): Another brief enjoyable ditty.
8.) WALKING IN THE SHADOW (4/5 Stars): Emotionally potent and intriguing tune that deals with a person struggling to live on in face of the 58,000 that died during the Vietnam conflict. Whether the guilt is over one combat victim or all 58,000 is a mite unclear.
9.) MAN ENOUGH TO CRY (4.5/5 Stars): Great short piece! The title somewhat reveals the mature subject matter, but the lyrics maintain an esoteric element.
10.) STAND TIGHT (5/5 Stars): This is a creative and aggressive number with a melodic bridge and ultra-catchy chorus with cool backgound vocals. It has militaristic vibe and is the third masterpiece of the album.
Some have criticized that Accept were trying to go pop rock on this album but nothing could be further from the truth. "Russian Roulette" features the same diverse song-writing of both "Restless & Wild" and "Balls to the Wall." Yeah, one or two songs would've fit well on the radio, so what?
One thing this CD proves is that Accept had perhaps the best background vocals in all of metal at the time and even to this day (!).
"Russian Roulette" is quite a bit better than the good-but-not-great "Metal Heart," which was released in 1985. The song-writing on "Metal Heart" just wasn't as good, plus Udo (the singer) went overkill with his irritating screaming, which no doubt turned off potential life-long fans. Hence, when "Russian Roulette" was released the next year not many took notice. They should have.
My five favorite Accept albums are as follows:
"Restless & Wild," "Balls to the Wall" and "Russian Roulette"
"Predator" (1996) -- their last studio album, inexplicably underrated.
"Metal Heart"
Check 'em all out.
Accept's the best release!!!!.......2005-05-09
Frankly, the best of the rest. I am longing for Accept's past especially Metal Heart and Russian Roulette. This is military strong CD!!!
Mature Work by the Masters.......2005-04-17
I love this album, it brings back many memories of my turbulent youth!
"Killed in action".......2005-04-15
Russian Roulette (1986) was Accept's sixth album. It supposedly marked a move toward a more aggressive sound after the attempt at a more mainstream album in 1985's Metal Heart (produced by Dieter Dirks who had also produced fellow German band the Scorpions). It also was the last Accept album with vocalist Udo Dirkschneider of the 1980s. The screeching little metal maniac would leave to start his own band U.D.O. Accept is one of my favorite metal bands, but Roulette does not come close to their previous masterpieces Restless and Wild & Balls to the Wall and is a big drop from the excellent Metal Heart.
Although Russian Roulette is a disappointment, it is still a decent 3-star album. Half the tracks are excellent. The rest are really bad which surprised me when I first heard it because Accept's previous 3 albums are very solid. First the good stuff: The cover artwork is awesome. I love Cold War imagery. I have a promotional poster featuring this cover and the slogan "Face the Music. Dare to Play Russian Roulette." on my wall as I am typing this. Though Udo and the gang may not have been the most attractive metal gods in the world, their photo definitely makes for a more appealing album cover than Balls to the Wall. Now the best of the music: "T.V. War" is an excellent opening track. It is typical blistering, fast metal fans expect of Accept and works well with the cover imagery. The title track and "Heaven and Hell" have that "Balls to the Wall" intensity. I like the lyrics to these as well. From "T.V. War": "enemy missiles have penetrated our airspace. Impact is estimated in a matter of minutes. Good evening!" "Another Second to Be" is a fast and furious track. The last song "Stand Tight" has an anthem quality to it. Just these tracks on an EP would be 5-star.
But, this album offers more...unfortunately. While Metal Heart was supposed to give Accept a more commercial sound, I think Roulette puts forth more of an attempt at a mainstream sound and it turns into a sappy mess. There is no "Screaming for a Love Bite" here but there is "It's Hard to Find a Way." The opening sounds like "Hysteria" by Def Leppard. The rest of the song has a hair band quality (ugh!). The chanting chorus on "Aiming High" is just bad. "Monsterman" and "Man Enough to Cry" are difficult to listen to. They are just junk. I recommend Roulette only to the serious 1980s metal completest (and fans of Accept, of course). Selective 1980s metal collectors should probably skip this one and just get Restless and Wild, Balls to the Wall and, maybe, Metal Heart.
Great!!!.......2004-10-07
Well I guess I should pay my respect to this
awesome album, I own it both on vinyl and CD
and it was my first Accept album, it quickly became
my favourite. So today I returned to it after maybe
5 years and I have to say that it still holds up.
And I just love the gang backing vocals it just sounds great.
So I rate it pretty high maybe nr 1...hm well I don't know.. it's one of their finest, in my mind anyway!!

Classic Accept.......2007-07-23
Cuts are all good! These guys are the MotorHead of Heavy Metal. MotorHead is the In your face, I don't care, of hard rock. Accept is the In your face, I don't care of Heavy Metal.
The song Restless And Wild was first offered to AC/DC, they declined. Accept (Accepted) it. This is a very good album if you like 'Balls To The Wall', and older Accept.
Not Only Restless But Wild Too!.......2007-07-17
The general consensus of the American public is that Accept were a kind of novelty act-"Those guys that did 'Balls to the Wall'". Hardcore metal fans know better however, and realize this was one of the most influential bands of the genre. Though they were overshadowed in popularity by fellow countrymen, The Scorpions, they were probably the most important German metal act in history until Helloween came along. Restless and Wild is often brought up as THE Accept album, and in some cases, one of THE most important metal albums of the 80s. The phrase "ahead of it's time" is used an awful lot anymore, and used alot to describe this album. I'd have to say it's true in this case. After all, ya gotta remember this was 1982. Now, I'm probably one of the only people you'll hear say this, but I feel there are a few filler songs on this album. After two such powerful opening songs, everything after doesn't quite seem to measure up. I'm not saying there's a bad song on this album, lets not get me wrong. You do have to admit that the bar is set rather high right off the bat though. Either way, this is an essential album for a classic metal fan, no doubt about it. And it's certainly a way to shut up those who feel Accept were a one trick pony.
Does German Metal Get Any Better??!!!.......2006-01-04
From the moment the very first scream shatters the calm of the German folk music, you know you are in for one heck of a ride. I've been listening to Accept for nearly twenty years, and to this day, Restless and Wild makes the hair on the back of my neck stand up. From the speed of "Fast as a shark" to the galloping guitars of "restless and wild", this album will have you rocking uncontrollably! When Accept order you to "Shake your Heads", trust me, you will obey. When you hear the hammer strike the anvil in "Demon's Night", you'll feel a chill in your bones. Accept has produced some great material over the years, and Udo's solo albums have all helped satisfy my craving for his unique vocals, but in my opinion, "Restless and Wild" is the one that can't be matched. As fast as it is infectious, this album is one for the history books. Not a bad song present, raw and powerful. This album will wear you out, But trust me, you'll collapse with smile on your face.

Udo Dirkschneider: "I would say that this album is the result of pure anger (note: I destroyed 3 microphones during the production). Following our experiences with I'm A Rebel, we made it our goal not to be influenced musically by anyone outside of the band this time. One example are the lyrics of Son of a Bitch that are absolutely anti record company. With this album you can say that the Accept sound was born and brought us attention across Europe and a tour with Judas Priest. Furthermore, this album was a starting point for many musicians to begin playing their own music."
All of the Accept Super Value Re-Release series feature booklets with new liner notes, historical reminiscents and comments by Udo Dirkschneider, never before seen photos and memorabilia. And all at a cool price!
Album Description
Accept's re-issue album was originally released in 1981, on Polydor and it features 10 tracks including 'Starlight', 'Run If You Can' & 'Feelings'. 2005.

One Of The Best Metal CDs Of All Time.......2006-12-08
In my opinion Breaker is one of the best heavy metal CDs of all time. Accept has a very unique sound and on this CD they just about hit perfection. This CD along with "Balls To The Walls" is the ultimate Accept. The songwriting is top notch, the musicianship is outstanding and Udo's voice is in peak performance. If you are already a fan of Accept, this CD should already be in your collection, if you are new to the band then this is the one you should buy along with Balls To The Walls in order to get a complete overview of the band. The self titled debut had horrible production (in my opinion) and was very unbalanced, the follow-up "I'm A Rebel" had hints of greatness and an improved sound, but this is where they truly show what they can do. The album after this "Restless And Wild" is even a further step forward in sound quality, however, songwriting on "Breaker" in my opinion is superior.
The Pros:The songwriting is outstanding, the songs that really stand out are "Son Of A Bitch", "Breaker","Starlight","Midnight Highway" and "Run If You Can"
The Cons:There really are none.Even the ballads are not too bad (on the previous 2 albums the ballads tended to unbalance the feel in my opinion).
The Bottom Line:This is a very strong album. Great production, great songwriting, and a perfect place to start if you are just getting into Accept or even 80s style hard rock/metal in general. It doesn't get much better then this.Donutman says so!
Munchy...Crunchy!.......2005-08-31
Since there are really no in depth critiques of the early Accept releases on the web I'll start here with BREAKER!
Like so mary Americans, I also caught onto Accept when Restless and Wild was reasonably new, April of '83. So, I had to backtrack and also save money (15 y/o at the time) to buy the older realeases.
My 1st copy of BREAKER was the USA pressing on PASSPORT records, a small indy record company that also pressed the big Wendy O Williams LP in 1983.
It is interesting to note that this version of the LP has a bizzare version of Son Of A Bitch, with gobbledegook lyrics (Born to be rich, kiss my arm, born to be rich....born to be rich, you are so....born to be rich), so the song was so good that I initially went nuts over this version. It wasnt until I found the BRAIN records version that I relized the song actually made sense! LOL!
The production of the album itself, while not as crisp as RESTLESS, is very compressed, I'm still not sure if the slight flanging of the guitars in the Title Track and FEELINGS is intentional or not. Yet sometimes underproduction is the best production.
In somewhat of a bridge between pre and post BREAKER LP, there are some interesting things to note:
Like Pre BREAKER:
Peter Baltes sings a very heavy handed ballad that is a nice composition.
A few of these songs are not Heavy Metal at all, just hard rocking tunes (ala BURNING, MIDNIGHT HIGHWAY)
The guitars are clean and crunchy, and the snare drum still has that thumpy tom tom sound, just like on I"M A REBEL
Udo/Peter Duet (Midnight Highway vs. Sounds of War and SAVE US)
LIKE POST BREAKER:
The song BREAKER is a bonafide metal classic and while much credit is givin to FAST AS A SHARK, this song is probably the definitive ACCEPT song, and crafted quite better as well. Be careful not to drive into that brick wall!
There is a ton of groundbreaking material here, most notably the twin guitar solo in STARLIGHT, which later on was copied in FIGHT FIRE WITH FIRE on Metallica's Ride The Lightning. Listen to 'em back to back!
Metal with melody (Run If You Can, FEELINGS)
And of course UDO was starting to really discover the high register with his voice was the way to go ALL THE TIME!
So to sum it all up?
THE VERDICT:
While Restless and Wild is Accept's equivilant to AC/DC Back in Black, the music before it is no slouch either, dig?
Much like Highway to Hell, BREAKER is a testament to a band that was on the edge of world wide success!

The Beginning of a Great Run of Albums.......2005-08-02
This is where Accept began to hit their stride. A damn fine early 80's metal album. 'Son of a Bitch' is a classic rocker, while 'Can't stand the night' is one of their better ballads. If you like the four that followed ("Restless&Wild", "Balls to the Wall", "Metal Heart", and "Russian Roulette"), I can't see a reason for you to not enjo this one. \m/

Finally....The First and Best Pleasure Album of All.......2002-10-30
Wow, someone FINALLY had the wisdom to reissue "Accept No Substitutes" on CD! This is unquestionably the BEST Pleasure album of all. (Although the Joyus album is a very close second) From the first note of the classic (and much sampled) Let's Dance this album is the BomB. I've been looking for and waiting for this one on CD for years. The list of great songs on this album just goes on and on "We have so much, I'm mad, Pleasure for your pleasure, Ghettos of the mind, Love of my life". This is some real good funky yet smooth music, end of story. If you are at all a fan of 70s era music....Go get this one!
