What first attracted me to this cd was the fact that the band played for Buffy the vampire slayers "Dingoes ate my baby"
The UK version also has 2 bonus tracks called "Liar" and "Fate" both are gr8 songs.
My fave tracks are "Dilate" "Pain" and "She knows" these are gorgeous songs!
I had fun lookiing through the pictures on the inside cover, i noticed that they had a piccy of the "Forbidden Planet" and i was all like yay i shop there!!!
The front cover is way cool and v diff wich i love.
All in all this cd is a plus and a half, i love it!!!

A Great CD to Buy.......2003-05-12

I had discover Four Star Mary in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as Oz band Dingoes Ate My Baby, the song who "tell me" to listen more of this band was Never Mind on the episode Dead Man Party. I bought the cd Thrown to the Wolves, and EVERY song is great. But my favorites are Never Mind of course and Violent. It's a must have for every alternative rock fan

What a great album! Every track is a work of genius, and the songs are superb! Best known to fans of the hit show Buffy the Vampire Slayer as "Dingoes Ate My Babies", the headline band for most of the first three seasons, Four Star Mary are an accomplished band in their own right.

Over half the songs on the album appeared in the show, and for good reason.

Best track? It's incredibly hard to choose, but probably "Thrown to the Wolves", with half a dozen others close behind.

If you're a Buffy fan, or an alternative rock fan, buy this album!

Everyone HAS to get this cd. all the songs rock, and they were also on buffy, the vampire slayer (as seth green's band 'dingoes ate my baby'). Four Star Mary is an extremely talented band. if only all the 'popular' music was this good!

Rockin' 4*Mary.......2001-07-12

This is one of the best albums I have ever listened to. You can listen to it a million times and not get bored of it! My favorite track on the album is Pain, which is the 4*Mary song on the Buffy the Vampire Slayer album. I also love Thrown to the Wolves, the title track, all the songs are brilliant! If you like alternative rock, Bon Jovi, Queen or bands like Wheatus, then you'll love 4*Mary!

Well worth the long wait.......2003-10-07

I purchased Thrown to the Wolves (TttW) over two years ago and it was an instant favorite. Since then, despite the fact that I only owned one full length Four Star Mary (FSM) CD, they have been one of my favorite bands. I had been out of the FSM news loop and had all but given up on them releasing another full length album when much to my surprise (and delight), I discovered that they had finally done so. So I ordered Welcome Home (WH) (and Marlene, which is excellent).

My first reaction was that it was a very good CD. However, I originally missed the rawer sound found on TttW, but then I started to become accustomed to WH's sound, and now I love WH. I was very surprised by how rich and complex many of the songs on WH are, but I think that proves that FSM has talent across a wide range. Musically, vocally, lyrically, this album is incredible. Any FSM fan should find this worth buying. And to anyone who is unfamiliar with FSM, I'm telling you to check them out. It will be worth it.

Finally, just a brief track rundown:

Overall Favorites: All I See, Strangled, Darker Days, and Hold Me.

Runner-up Favorites: Train, Empty, Welcome Home, Bleed On, Fall, Drown, Prison, and Stars Fall Down.

That's actually all of the songs. I don't think there is a bad one in the bunch. I don't think I've heard a FSM song yet that I haven't liked, and I hope everyone who hears them feels the same.

This is a great album; too bad it is too expensive (import) and hard to find; Doctor Doctor, Anytime and We Believe in Love are the best songs. I would recommend all MSG fans to make an effort and buy this album.

The new CD is pretty good and I got this already but I got this one for the Live version. It's typically "LIVE" in that it drags on at the end but otherwise a good song.

Springsteen is Back and Better Than Ever!.......2002-07-29

This song is very catchy and very enjoyable to listen to as well as containing a powerful message of hope. Guitars are very prominent-the E Street Band is awesume. Land of Hope and Dreams was an excellent choice as a companion piece. Cannot wait to here this one at the concert! I only hope Springsteen puts out a music video for this one.

Vintage Metal.......2005-04-17

This is a great album from MSG, I bought the cassette in the 80's and later tried to get it on CD. NO LUCK, so I used my cd recorder to make an analog copy of the tape onto CD. I wish this could get re-released in the U.S. Such great songs as TIME, GIMME YOU'RE LOVE and many others. This band was highly underated and very good.

Album Description

Grant Langston's second solo release, Chinese Fire Drill is the follow-up to his 2000 LP All This and Pecan Pie. Both discs explore his "unique" urbanized, southern boy outlook on women, booze, sex, heartache and modern angst. But whereas All This and Pecan Pie was a lavish project, using a host of players and participants from established acts like Sheryl Crow and The Wallflowers, Chinese Fire Drill takes a different path. The irreverence is still there, along with the stories of tough times and tough choices, but the style is more intimate, more personal.

Much of Chinese Fire Drill was done in a project studio in LA's San Fernando Valley, with Grant playing and singing as many of the parts as possible. "The idea was to take all the technology and try to make a fun, organic record. The approach was very lo-fi. If a truck rumbled by while cutting a vocal and the take was good, I kept it, rumble and all." Grant's calling card has always been his biting lyrics and Chinese Fire Drill continues the tradition. Whether waxing romantic about LA's famous strip joint Jumbo's Clown Room or creating a guide for martial bliss("Everyday I take a tab of Ecstacy with my coffee, just so I can smile at you.") Chinese Fire Drill is guaranteed to offend, annoy and entertain.

Grant Langston remains an extraordinarily talented songwriter and musician. For this record, he is exploring a more country-rock sound than he has in the past. By country-rock, I mean music in the style more of The Eagles, than what is played so often on country radio. Most of the songs deal with the emotions surrounding troubled romantic relationships and are played by a five piece band prominently featuring the slide guitar.

The songs on this self produced disc provide ample evidence of his skill as a guitarist ("The Word"), his ironic humor ("Land Of Love"), and his ability to capture deep and intimate emotions ("Smile"). I've also got to say that I've seen hundreds of musical acts and own over a thousand records, and "Heavyweight Champ Of The World" is flat out one of the best songs I've heard. It captures perfectly what might be termed `Childhood's End' in a man's life.

If you've seen Grant perform and wonder whether his records measure up to his live charisma, don't worry because you can't go wrong with this one. If you're looking for an interesting new songwriter, this is the guy. If you want music more substantial than the slop played on the radio these days, here it is. In short, if you're a music fan looking for something really worth hearing, `Chinese Fire Drill' will fit the bill.
