His vital days with Judas Priest behind him, legendary vocalist Rob Halford has returned to his British heavy metal roots. This impressive 27-track double-disc covers all phases of Halford's career, from Priest to Fight to Two to his current band, simply titled Halford, a lineup of young backup players who attack Halford's songs with taut force and accuracy. From newer gems such as "Made in Hell" to Priest staples "Electric Eye" and "Breaking the Law" to a duet with Iron Maiden's Bruce Dickinson, this comprehensive collection was largely recorded at various venues throughout a seven-month tour. Three studio songs close Live Insurrection, providing an indication of where the celebrated metalmeister is headed. --Katherine Turman

One Of Metal's Best Live Albums.......2004-07-18
Live Insurrection is a double album of live material performed by Rob Halford and his Halford band which can stand proudly alongside the legendary live Judas Priest albums Unleashed In The East and Priest...Live! Actually, one could argue that this may even be a bit better than the afformentioned Priest discs due to such a large quanity and wide variety of music being played from so many years (1976-2001) not to mention Rob sounding more talented and invigorated than ever before; he still has all the vocal range and power and the massive supply of energy that he had before and now his voice often has a really raw, raspy sound that just makes him sound even more menacing. His band is excellent as well, not quite Judas Priest but still total professionals. Every song on here is a winner with basically all of them sounding better than the original studio recordings. The Fight material (Into The Pit, Nailed To The Gun) is an especially major improvement on the originals. The Judas Priest material on here sounds as exciting as it ever was; listen to the second guitar solo on Tyrant and you'll swear Glenn Tipton was up on stage playing lead with them. The two songs I think are the undisputed all time classics of Live Insurrection are Made In Hell and Silent Screams. Other material from Halford's Resurrection album is here (Ressurection, Cyberworld, Saviour, The One You Love To Hate with Bruce Dickinson) and it all rules but those two songs are among some of the best that Rob has ever written and on here they become two of the best metal songs ever recorded. Made In Hell is a heavy, midpaced banger with an awesome intro riff and killer chorus and is one of the best odes to the history of heavy metal music ever. Silent Screams - I'm not gonna say anything about, you just have to hear it to believe it - could stand proudly alongside a shortlist of Judas Priest's greatest songs, in my opinion. There are three solid studio cuts at the end of disc two - Screaming In The Dark is solid speed metal not unlike the stuff on the Painkiller album and Heart Of A Lion and Prisoner Of Your Eyes are re-recorded versions of then unreleased Judas Priest songs, both are great. Every Judas Priest fan must have this CD. Anyone who wants to hear live heavy metal at its best, buy this, you won't regret it.
GOOD SONGS - GREAT PRODUCTION.......2004-07-01
Though I doubt that more than the drums are actually recorded live, and I'm sure the guitars and vocals were filled in from a studio recording, this CD has awesome sound. Unleased in the east was mostly redone in a studio, and I beleive so was this CD. But regardless this CD is worth every penny spent on it. Halford can make milk curdle with his screams....
All others...Just give up!!!!.......2004-06-11
That is why he is called the Metal God! His range, stage persona, music, is just simply....THE BEST! Ripper....Take a seat and let the real Metal God show you how the Priest is supposed to sound. You did good...But No one can beat Rob. Although Bruce Dickinson is not someone to forget...This album is (almost, except for other Priest, Fight, or Halford cd's) all you need to keep in your player!

THE METAL TENOR AT HIS PINNACLE.......2001-08-10
HALFORD'S VOCALS DON'T MISS A BEAT SINCE THE PAINKILLER ERA, IN FACT HE HITS SOME HIGHER NOTES. PRIEST CLASSICS 'ELECTRIC EYE' 'STAINED CLASS' 'BREAKING THE LAW' 'JAWBREAKER' 'BEYOND THE REALMS OF DEATH' 'METAL GODS' ARE COVERED IN ALL OF THEIR GLORY. 'THE ONE I LOVE TO HATE' W/BRUCE ALONE IS WORTH THE PRICE! MOST OF THE SONGS ARE GREAT, SOME BETTER THAN THE OTHERS. THE OPENING TRACK IS AWESOME! SLOW DOWN IS A GRIPPER! Weak moments are a sidekick vocals by a death metal growler, does not complement Rob's soaring vocals whatsoever and some tracks towards the end of the second cd. There's a lot of metal to choose from so a metalhead will not be disappointed.

An incredible live album.......2004-04-25
I don't have too much to say except that there is a healthy selection of Priest and Fight classics, as well as a good bit of Halford's newer stuff from. All in all, it makes for a remarkable mix of Heavy Metal, and over my 100+ CDs, this is easily one of my top ten, and is my #1 Live album. A common misconception, however, is that Halford did not play any songs from Two on this disc. "Silent Screams" is actually originally a song he wrote while in Two, and then later remade with his band, Halford. Two's music before Reznor mixed it was a lot heavier than what you hear on the Voyeurs CD.
Worth Your Coin!.......2001-08-15
Rob Halford, Judas Priest's legendary former vocalist and refugee from a couple of his own solo bands, has finally released a live product of his own. The good news is that it's stronger than anything he's released studio-wise since he left the Priest almost a decade ago. While it's obvious Rob is trying to bury the recent past (no tracks by his last band, Two, appear, and he's returned to a "leather and studs" image), it's a welcome return to true metal, contrived as it may be. His new band are rather faceless, devoid of personality, albeit excellent on their instruments. The lack of personality even extends to having a guy who does a low grunting kind of voice like his old band Fight used to have. Still, the drummer could rival Scott Travis in the double bass department, and he performs the material well.
The songs are culled from the Halford album, the Judas Priest back catologue, and the first Fight album (note: no tracks from the second dissapointing one), with a lot of added surprises.
These surprises include three studio tracks, two of which are tracks written by Judas Priest, but never released (until recently with the Priest remasters)! You also get Rob's duet with Bruce Dickinson of Iron Maiden, live, and the two bonus tracks from the Japanese version of the Halford album, again performed live. Rob sings his first-ever solo track, "Light Comes Out Of Black" which was originally on the Buffy The Vampire Slayer soundtrack back in 1992. The Priest material is a great mix: old obscure stuff from Sad Wings and Stained Class, as well as more obvious stuff from Hell Bent and Screaming. Rob's voice is in fine form, doing justice to the Priest and Fight material.
The Japanese bonus track is "Blackout". Yes, the old Scorpions tune, and recorded here with a Scorpion: Rudolph Schenker! Halford easily handles Klaus Meine's vocal part. It's a great bonus track, easily worth the extra cash.
They give you lots of great packaging with this live album. Decent liner notes, lots of pictures, plenty to look at while you spend a couple hours listening to this platter of metal perfection. Enjoy.
