Banjo player Bela Fleck has a world-class set of chops and a willingness to follow his muse wherever it takes him. The band ranges far and wide once again on the The Hidden Land it opens with a Bach Fugue, delves into swing, has a bit of bluegrass, does progressive rock, and jets to several other locales. But the everything-and-the-kitchen sink concept is still considerable more streamlined than 2003's Little Worlds, an overproduced and under-focused three-CD set. Highlights here include Fleck's pickin' on a progressive country stomp called "Weed Whacker" and the playful "Couch Potato," which has a hyper edge that doesn't match the sedentary implications of the title. The band's telepathic interaction is highlighted on the Middle East-influenced "Chennai," where musical lines are played in unison or tossed back and forth, making the song crackle with energy. The broad aesthetic and restless sonic changes might be a bit much for some, but a patient survey of this album will be rewarded. --Tad Hendrickson

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Fresh, Innovative, Fleck.......2007-02-21

The band started to get carried away with guest appearances (Outbound, Little Worlds, etc.) that it was almost unbearable and overwhelming. Their compositions suffered because instead of something designed for specifically the Flecktones, other things came out of the woodworks (not to say that all of it or any of it was bad, but it was almost too much).

When I listen to this album, not only does it feel more original and fresher than anything I have heard Bela and the Flecktones do (at least after listening to their older albums for long spans of time), but this album just has a more intimate and naturally revealing side of the Flecktones. This is an album that will make you think, "Wow I was not expecting that! I kind of like it! Give me more!" and the more you listen to it, the more you feel like you are on the same page as them. This is a more mature album, not one for someone who does not already know how Bela Fleck speaks, so please do not listen to this as a novice listener, it sends a false first impression. The music is more jazz-like than before, and all of the songs flow together. The Flecktones take the listener on an epic adventure like none of the albums have really done before. With the major peaks (in my opinion) being the transition from Fugue to P'lod, Labyrinth, Weed Wacker>Couch Potato>Chennai, this album hits hard from the getgo.

I have always wondered, what will they do next? Bela plays guitar on here, Futureman plays a lot more acoustic drums (which is soooo refreshing), Jeff plays the flute quite a bit, and Victor is always amazing. This album keeps the Flecktones in my top five best bands of all time; The Hidden Land is indeed another album that leaves the listener wanting much more, just like the others. Although, I really like this style the most, I hope they produce more of this gold.

4 out of 5 stars Enjoyable listening........2006-12-09

After several Flecktones albums (including 2003's ambitious triple CD Little Worlds that found the act collaborating with all-star guests including Derek Trucks, Branford Marsalis, and Bobby McFerrin), the group chose a back-to-basics approach for its latest release "The Hidden Land".
The disc solely features the Flecktones quartet, comprised of bassist Victor Wooten, percussionist Roy "Future Man" Wooten, and saxophonist Jeff Coffin. Together, the band expertly hones its trademark combination of bluegrass, jazz, funk, and rock influences within a more spacious and stripped-down environment.
The band has been together for 17 years, always trying to find the right next thing to do and not repeat themselves.
Having a lot of guests playing with them was an incredible amount of fun, but if they were to continue along that path, they would become very predictable.
Banjoist Bela Fleck hooks back up with his longtime backing group The Flecktones featuring longtime electric bass stalwart Victor Wooten. Their music is a mix of Americana, funk grooves and jazz and makes for pleasant if unchallenging listening. After opening with a brief Bach classical composition, the group moves into "P'lod in the House" which kicks the tempo up with pulsating electric bass and funky drum breaks. Wooten's bass is an active presence in almost every performance on this disc, especially on "Labyrinth" where it underpins pensive sounding flute and saxophone solos while scatted vocals bubble just underneath the surface.
There's a brief acoustic interlude on "Who's Got Three" with unamplified banjo (fingers scraping quite audibly on the fretboard) and clarinet taking center stage. Funky bass moves back into the forefront with the upbeat "Weed Whacker" with some quick pickin' and bouncy saxophone. "Subterfuge" gets a little more adventurous as the band jumps the rails of its comfort zone with an electric guitar solo, before ending things on a back-porch note, pickin' the banjo and tootin' on the flute for "The Whistle Song." Jam band fans will find a lit of grooves to like here, and while I found myself wishing that they took a few more chances, the album does make for pleasant if unchallenging background music.

1 out of 5 stars A Great Imitation of Their Own Style.......2006-11-18

Reading between the grooves, it sounds like there was a contractual obligation to produce a new album. Great playing. Innovative compositions. It's hard to pinpoint why these great musicians somehow just didn't manage to get this bird in the air. However, nothing about it really inspires, entertains or surprises.

5 out of 5 stars Pleasant (newly defined) mix of genres.......2006-11-02

This was my introduction to Béla Fleck and it served me very well. It's supposed to be very different than previous albums (more jazzy) and this is absolutely well done. I find it magnificient! You should have a (at least small) taste for jazz sounds, otherwise, "Hidden Land" won't work for you.

Not all songs are good, but what do you expect? I like most: Rococco, Kaleidoscope, Weed Whacker and The Whistle Tune.

Buttom line: In my view, Béla Fleck's sound and melodies have evolved for the better in the past years. It's getting more unique every time. I like it!

2 out of 5 stars Flashes of greatness........2006-09-25

I have to say that this is without a doubt their most uninspired and unoriginal album yet. The first few tracks are really bad, as bad as "The Ballad of Jed Clampett" (I thought they got all that out of their system?). Maybe it will grow on me, but I think with repeated listens I will become more and more bored with it. I will say that as the album moves on, it gets better and "Misunderstood" is definitely the high point on the album (Too bad it takes so long to get there). I have a really hard time recommending this album especially considering their ridiculously strong output leading up to it. Here's to hoping their following is looking better for the mighty Flecktones.

Look for _Outbound_ or _Little Worlds_ instead.

On Land of the Free?--a record inspired by the worldwide protests against the World Trade Organization--L.A. skatecore veterans Pennywise claim to have written "a soundtrack for political activists all over the world." That this, their seventh album, is one of their finest to date is not due to any inspired political invective. The anthemic barrage of the opening "Time Marches On" sets the tone for an album whose music impacts like a police baton charge. Pennywise work so well as a complete band, it's often nothing short of breathtaking; just listen to the way Randy Bradbury's deft bass lines cleverly weave around the chugging juggernaut riffage dealt out by guitarist Fletcher Dragg on the towering holler-along "F**k Authority." The politics might not be expressed with an eloquence as revolutionary as Pennywise clearly think, but forget about that. Land of the Free? is a reminder of the sheer seismic power of punk rock. --Louis Pattison

Album Description

In their seventh studio release Land Of The Free, Pennywise have turned their attention toward the issues of global politics, drawing inspiration from the worldwide WTO protests and the recent United States Presidential elections as fuel for their anti-establishment position. 10 tracks. 2001 release.

5 out of 5 stars Pennywise strikes gold!.......2006-07-25

if you ask me, i would say that this album is pennywise at the op of their game. i mean, if jason were present, they may have been a little better, but the cards werent played that way and we are left with a very excellent work from pennywise. to me, this is the start of the present sound that pennywise used on following albums from the ashes and the fuse...some of their best at that! this album also shows that they are clearly over the loss of jason thirsk. i mean, where straight ahead was a mere step in the right direction, this album solidifies it. i would say the only pre-straight ahead album that is as good as this one is their other masterpiece, "about time."

so pennywise has changed their sound...it was clearly for the better as seen in the two following albums.

dont listen to the folks who say all pennywise albums sound the same...and full circle is far from their best...if you want a good intro to pennywise, get this or about time.

4 out of 5 stars gooses review.......2005-10-16

Ive only heard one other pennywise cd and it seemed a lot like this one except not as good. This cd is very politically motivated and fun to listen to. Some of their songs seem to be highly repetitive such as enemy and my god. The best song on here in my opinion is the world. f**k authority, something wrong with me, and its up to you are really good too. A lot of what is on this cd is contemporary history and in a couple of decades will earn a couple of paragraphs in all our childrens history books making this a small peice of american history.

5 out of 5 stars -Freedom (Free-dumb) Get it?.......2004-12-23

"Land of the Free?" is your typical hardcore Pennywise album.

This means that A: It's fast.
B: It's about the government and fate.
C: It's going to be awesome.

You either love Pennywise, or you don't. There's no in between. There's no "Ahh, they're okay..." You either get their CD, go see them live, and beat up some punk ass kids, or you get their CD, tape it back up, and give it to the friend that you hang with only because he has a car for a birthday present. I'm the one who goes and beats up fat teenagers. The ones that had their parents take them to the show, have on a Pennywise shirt, have a Pennywise wallet, and have a bag of Pennywise posters, patches and stickers. Pennywise has always been a favorite band of mine. From their self titled, to "Up from the Ashes". This album is a landmark for Pennywise, but I think every CD they release is a landmark in and of itself. "Unknown Road", "About Time", and "Full Cirlce" being the 3 I define as their classics.

This album is a great album and should be considered by all punk fans and owned by any Pennywise fan.

5 out of 5 stars Land of the free.......2004-05-18

Land of the free is more powerful than From the ashes(not that FTA don't rock, it rocks trust me!) for some reasons, it has a type a punch on this one that isn't on other PW albums, which make the mood of the album really louder and powerful!

5 out of 5 stars Pennywise kills all!.......2004-01-26

Pennywise is the best punk band. Its pretty simple, all of there songs kick ass and anyone who doesnt like them deserves to die. The guy way op in the first 20 review who gave away all his cd's cause he "lost his support for pennywise" he deserves to be brutally tortured, then die. If you like punk rock theres no reason not to buy this cd or any of pennywise' other cds.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT.......2007-01-12

If you are into this type of thing then you will absolutely LOVE it.

3 out of 5 stars Decent Matrix Tribute.......2005-12-13

Animatrix - The Album opens very strongly with the scintillating, mellowing, "Who Am I?," "Big Wednesday," and "Blind Tiger." The electronic arrangements fit very well with the psychological mood of the world of the Matrix. Unfortunately, tracks four through twelve are not as strong. Tracks eleven and twelve include music and dialouge from the original film score: but it is just the same three or four lines by Neo and Morpheus repeated over and over. In Track eleven, "Red Pill, Blue Pill," the only spoken words are "take the red pill; take the blue pill" over and over, by an unknown voice (not Reeves or Fishburne) and some amateur mixing that sounds like a "do it yourself Party DJ Mixer Kit." If you are at a Rave, I suppose these last two tracks would be right up your alley.

4 out of 5 stars an enigma.......2005-10-28

i've enjoyed most of the soundtracks on the animatrix cd but as i watch the movie i always miss sumthin outta it...does someone out there posses info on where i could get the soundtrack played when the girl goes lookin for her cat in the wiered building and finds them boys playin with the nature of the building...?and then just when the girl picks the feather from its hovering mode..the cat scares a white dove into flight then the music that i'm lookin for begins...if someone out there knows what i'm lookin for...plz page me on erwogera@hotmail.com

4 out of 5 stars Good, but not great.......2005-09-08

This CD has some really excellent tracks, some OK ones, and some that make you scratch you head with "what-were-the-artists-thinking" kind of bewilderment. As mentioned by a previous reviewer, the track Masters of the Universe (when the Kid is escaping the Agents on his skateboard), amazingly, is omitted. However, the first track (the "credits" music), Supermoves, and Conga Fury are great fun to listen to.
As for the genre itself, Trance seems to me to be the equivalent of classical music for our time. Some is good, some is bad, but it all gives you a sense of free-mind feel, without words or lyrics or pop influences mucking up the experience of the music itself. If that makes any sense...

5 out of 5 stars Somewhere around a 4.7.......2005-08-01

Nope... its not another unenjoyable rap or pop album. What I'm trying to get at is that its so, so sad that electronic music is not popular and deserves to be. Repeatable lovey-dovey pop and false rap is what mostly strikes listeners through the radio. Though I do understand electronic music is meant for mainstream listening and is meant to stay deep underground in the clubs, lets hope to see electronic music favored in the future.

Due to some great electronic tracks left out from the film, I did give the compilation a 4.5, but nonetheless, being a huge electronic/techno fan, is a very well done and not far from a masterpiece.

Most Favored Track:
"Beauty Never Fades"
"Martenot Waves"
"Under The Gun"
"Hands Around My Throat"
"Conga Fury"
& a few from the film that were sadly left out.

There was nothing like the Robeson sound, ever. To describe his deep, rich, perfectly equalized instrument is futile. Go instead to "Balm in Gilead," the opening track, and see if you can listen to the last pianissimo phrase without falling to pieces. Robeson was at his best when the music was slow and the words contained spiritual or social messages. Faster, lighter fare like Kern's "I Still Suits Me" or Gershwin's "It Ain't Necessarily So" find the serious-minded singer out of his element, lacking irony and swing. "Old Man River," though, gets a simple, dignified treatment. It's Songs of Free Men, though, that will just keep Robeson's artistry rolling along, especially in Sony's astonishing transfers. --Jed Distler

4 out of 5 stars Robeson on wax.......2007-06-19

I found this album in a thrift store last week, for a couple of dollars. It's the original pressing on four 78 RPM records, in a gatefold format. It's in pristine condition. I really bought it for the incredible cover art, although I hope to be able to listen to it in this format at some point.

5 out of 5 stars The voice, the sound quality and the interpretation.......2004-09-24

Put this on your stereo and if it is good enough the depth and richness of Robeson's voice will make your fillings rattle and your chest rumble. The power of his voice is awesome. This CD is superbly recorded with no audible noise at normal listening levels.

4 out of 5 stars A Voice from the 40s, often dated, often moving.......2002-09-01

"Red diaper babies" have greeted this disc with nostalgic joy, and it captures a time and an aesthetic and a political belief with precision. Anyone interested in the emotional life of the pro-Soviet left of the 1940s should buy this disc. It's something like Henry Wallace set to music. There is much more to Robeson than that, however, and Sony has given us Robeson whole: there are songs by American masters of the musical, there are labor songs, religious songs, as well as the kind of faux-folk songs which the butcher supreme Josef Stalin encouraged and which were not taken seriously inside the USSR (except at gunpoint!!) but which were taken up by dupes around the world. This is Robeson at his least savory - willing propagandist for a vile mass murderer. Songs such as "Native Land" (fittingly, Robeson is referring to the Soviet Union) and the Red Army song are the equivalent of the "Horst Wessel Song", anthems of murder, and it is difficult to listen to the worst of them without retching. On the other hand, Robeson's commitment to American folk culture was real. "Balm in Gilead" is deeply beautiful; "John Henry" is heroic; "By an' By" is both resigned yet hopeful. "Joe Hill" captures an era in labor history. Anyone interested in American popular song should hear these. Turning to Broadway, his "Old Man River" is very fine, though Robeson changed the lyrics for political reasons and Leonard Warren has done the song better. I disagree with the editorial reviewer: "I Still Suits Me" is wonderfully playful and shows Robeson using his gorgeously rich voice to tease and poke fun. However, Marc Blitzstein's "Purest Kind of a Guy" is beyond saving - another example of Robeson recording an unworthy song by a political fellow-traveller. Ugh. But for every miss there are two hits. Robeson performs Mendelssohn's Elijah with nobility, and sings his favorite song, "Water Boy", with joyous pride: "There ain't no hammer that's on these mountains that rings like mine, boys, that rings like mine."
No one need have any fears about the mono sound quality. The orchestra in the second half of the program is at times a little dwarfed by Robeson's voice, but it generally sounds clean and colorful, and the great artist's voice rings like no other.

5 out of 5 stars Robeson at his best.......2000-05-12

It's hard to believe that most of these recordings pre-date the advent of magnetic tape: the CD transfer is superlative. The songs and performance are beyond reproach. Notable is the imaginative packaging in miniature 'record album' format, complete with the original cover art, and a replica of the original Columbia record label applied to the CD.

In response to a previous question: Robeson's performance of Danny Boy (Londonderry Air) can be found on the Vanguard LP entitled "Robeson" (VRS-9037).

5 out of 5 stars some of the greatest songs of the last century.......2000-05-05

In the 1940s, before rabid McCarthyism and racism had taken its toll on him, Robeson made these wonderful recordings of spirituals, classics and pop tunes. Accompanied by the solo piano of the incomparable Lawrence Brown, or by an orchestra, the songs ring out with pride, dignity, skill and unmatched integrity. The shameful treatment that Robeson was subject to from American authorities certainly seem grotesquely absurd to a modern listener. The wonderful version of "The House I Live In" included on this cd should forever kill off any suspicion that Robeson did not love his country deeply. This album ought to be heard by millions of people, world wide. Robeson's voice is nothing less than a glorious high point in 20th century music, and it's hard to think of any recording capturing it to greater advantage.

5 out of 5 stars Gamma Ray's Best...Remastered!.......2006-09-02

The crown jewel in the Gamma Ray catalog is undoubtedly 1995's Land of the Free.

After the departure of vocalist Ralf Scheepers (now in Primal Fear), Gamma Ray founder Kai Hansen assumed vocal duties, which he hadn't tried in quite some time. Much to my surprise, I enjoyed his vocals here as much as Scheepers' performance. It didn't hurt that Hansen's vocal return happened to occur on what is probably the strongest album he has written since the legendary Keeper of the Seven Keys albums. Land of the Free is a powerful album from start to finish, and while it is still very much in the melodic power metal style that Kai Hansen practically invented, it is unique enough to truly break free of Helloween's shadow. Even without the concept tying the songs together, they have a very cohesive feel. There isn't any sense of unevenness like you might find on earlier Gamma Ray albums. Standout tracks include...well, all of them really. There are no duds here. The album's highlights are the guest appearances by former Helloween vocalist Michael Kiske and Blind Guardian's Hansi Kurisch, who was returning the favor for Hansen's string of guest appearances on Blind Guardian's early albums.

I suppose it goes without saying that Gamma Ray would appeal to Helloween fans. Fans of the more recent power metal bands like Sonata Arctica, Freedom Call, Edguy and Hammerfall also owe it to themselves to check out Gamma Ray, and Land of the Free is the perfect album to start with.

The 2003 reissue of Land of the Free features digitally remastered sound, three bonus tracks (Heavy Metal Mania, As Time Goes By, and a new version of the Silence), and comes in a nice digipack. It's a great way to improve a classic album.

NOTE: If you can find one, there is a very cool (but very limited) box set that collects all six of the remastered Gamma Ray albums.

4 out of 5 stars A true masterpiece! Considered by many Keeper part III.......2005-01-07

Gamma Ray's finest hour! One more milestone of Power Metal after Helloween's Keeper albums! Hansen blows all his competition and Helloween's clones to the water with this one.

Kai Hansen returns with his majestic reefing, crazy leads, insane-fast solos and he is also back on vocals! Don't think for a second that this is a drawback, he has learned a lot and practised a lot since he recorded Walls Of Jericho, his vocals are clearer but still possess the strength to produce high pitched screams! The rest of the band is in really great form especially the drummer, who almost never lifts his foot off the double bass and pounds his tombs like crazy.

The arrangements are of epic proportions reminding of past glories and at some parts even surpassing them. The guest appearances of Michael Kiske and Hansi Kursch on 2 tracks also add to the glory of this album and remind you of the Keeper Of The Seven Keys albums!

"Rebellion In Dreamland" starts of the album picking up speed as it continues, mind blowing reefs and solos and really smart choruses make this track a masterpiece and the most epic song that Gamma Ray ever put out! "Man On A Mission" comes next, reaching insane speeds which remind of good old speed metal. Comprising of fantasy lyrics, a smart chorus and fast soloing (the song reminds me of 'Save Us' from Keeper II). Onwards comes "Fairytale", an incredible pounding track which only lasts for 50 seconds and leaves you waiting for more! After a short instrumental "Gods Of Deliverance" follows which is mainly maintained by it's catchy chorus and Kai's vocals, a nice track. The next two tracks are nothing special as one of them is a ballad; a field were Gamma Ray were never really good at and the other being a faster track but with nothing special to give. "Land Of The Free" follows, which is definitely the second best masterpiece of the album after Rebellion In Dreamland. Great reefs, smart lyrics, one of the best choruses Hansen has ever written and the quest appearance of both Kiske and Kursch on the chorus will surely make you shiver! After another short instrumental comes "Abyss Of The Void", another strong track with nice vocals by Kai, followed by "Time To Break Free" which is sang entirely by Kiske and it is a catchy heavy metal track, not bad but nothing special either. "Afterlife" is the last track, a power ballad type song dedicated to Ingo Schwichtenberg (Helloween's drummer 1985-93), a strange track with deep lyrics. This version of the album is also remastered giving more power to the tracks and includes "The Silence" remixed with Kai on vocals, a really great track!

In my opinion this album together with Helloween's Keeper albums are a must have concerning European power metal and they are also linked together musically and lyric wise. These 3 records paved the way for all the rest of the bands that followed and their glory and musical perfection has never been reached.

Will be love by Helloween, Blind Guardian, Stratovarius and power metal fans in general.

4 out of 5 stars Best Gamma Ray album ever.......2003-11-05

LAND OF THE FREE is the best Gamma Ray album ever. They had never recorded something so good before, nor they did something so good after. Maybe, excited by the challenge of singing lead vocals again after a long time, Kai Hansen did his best.
This concept album is top of the game in the power / melodic metal genre. All the songs flow in a natural way, with speed, wight, force, dynamism, great lyrics, great solos, great drumming by Thomas Nack. The high points are the opener "Rebellion In Dreamland", followed by "Man On A Mission" and the title track. MIchael Kiske, ex-Helloween, appears as guest vocalist for "Time To Break Free". There's also a "requiem" song called "Afterlife", dedicated to ex-Helloween drummer Ingo Schwichtenberg, who comitted suicide in Germany by jumping ahead of a train.

This is pretty obvious the work of an inspired band at the top of their form. Both the drummer and the bass player are no longer in the band. Kai Hansen pal and guitarist / producer Dirk Schlachter gave up on guitars and assumed bass guitar, giving room to the hiring of guitarist Henjo Richter, a very good player.

LAND OF THE FREE is metal at its best, no matter the genre inside metal.

This is not the The Real Nirvana....But they have a funky sound that is not half bad....I just wished that they had chosen an origanal name....on the other hand....our band is named the coastal primates....I can not say there is no other band with that name....but if that other band became popular....{!?}

5 out of 5 stars The album that introduced me to a new world.......2000-09-23

I first heard this release at Borders a long time ago. I thought the cover looked interesting, and that's usually my determining factor in finding good music. I didn't know what I was getting into. I didn't know that one man's vision would lead me into appreciating all genres of music. Although all the musicians did an amazing job on this record (Marshall H's contribution helped me coin the term "night music", which is what it truly is), I single them all out when it comes to Soul Slinger. His distinct sound and way of thinking has really helped me as a human being and as a creator of words, worlds, and music, and I thank him forever for that. I owe a lot to him and the other visionaries on the Jungle Sky label. I only hope one day that I can meet him, share ideas, listen to some alien music.... I believe....

" After the aliens gave the government their technology, they then gave the people their music."

5 out of 5 stars please don't listen to any of the idiot's above.......2000-09-02

They ALL do not know what they are talking about (except for the one guy who knows what this CD is about)

This is the fourth in the series of Jungle releases from Liquid Sky Music (now defunct... for the time being). Amazingly, this was the debut of a few new names on the label: Frank Heiss (aka Tube) and 1.8.7 (now known as Jordana). Ben Neill also appeared as a Soul Slinger remix.

A very hardcore CD for the relaxed Jungle fan, but most people won't either a)understand what this label accomplishes through every release or b)understand the music. Take a pick.

btw, for the music fan in America, lot's of people have done parodies of Nirvana's Nevermind CD; I'm guessing you walk with your eyes closed...

4 out of 5 stars Way chill Drum and Bass.......2000-03-18

The beats are amazing. I still enjoy listening to this album and all my friends still borrow it.

    Customer Reviews:

    5 out of 5 stars Gamma Ray's Best.......2006-09-02

4 out of 5 stars A true masterpiece! Considered by many Keeper part III.......2005-01-05

4 out of 5 stars Best Gamma Ray album.......2003-11-05

5 out of 5 stars Kai Is One helluva voice.......2003-03-07

THe music on this CD is top notch. Everysong goes well into the next and Kai Hansen sings with such emotion and in so many different styles that it is no wonder he is the inspiration for a lot of bands. The story is awesome and presented very well. I have heard a lot of concept albums in my time and this is one of the greats. No filler tracks, every single song has a purpose on the cd.

IF you do not walk away from this Cd with the words "WOW" then you are prolly not gonna like much else in this genre.

Gamma Ray is always doing epic music but they never rely on crutches of their past. They are willing to experiment and change things up a bit, sometimes it works and others it doesn't. However you will not get the impression that they are just rehashing old stuff and calling it new like some other metal bands.

Definatly one of their best if not thee best.

5 out of 5 stars The pinnacle of German Power Metal........2003-02-11

Me and another guy named Matt (who I hope to be the singer in my band) were jamming out to "Rebellion in Dreamland" (me on guitar, him on vocals) when I realized this is definitely the BEST Gamma Ray release, if not the best thing Kai Hansen has ever done. It has melody, blazing speed, choir vocals, synths, pounding double bass drums, and soaring ballads to combine to make perhaps the best power metal album of the nineties. Gamma Ray also put on the best show at Prog Power that I saw last year. Buy it immediately!
