About the Artist

It has been 11 years since a small band out of Buffalo, New York released their gorified Metal Blade Records debut EATEN BACK TO LIFE, and in their decade+ existence, CANNIBAL CORPSE have accomplished much more than getting their music and concerts banned. CANNIBAL CORPSE have been repeatedly targeted by the morality police (Gore, PMRC, Lieberman, Dole), appeared in a blockbuster Hollywood feature film (Ace Venture: Pet Detective), debuted as the only Death Metal band to rank on the Billboard Top 200 Album chart, graced the covers of virtually every Metal magazine in the world, toured the globe routinely and sold millions of records. All of this with zero commercial radio airplay and no exposure from MTV, save the periodic obligatory controversial news segment. On February 26th, 2002, GORE OBSESSED, the band's eighth full-length studio album, will redefine the Death Metal genre and reign as CANNIBAL CORPSE's most accomplished and scrutinized recording to date. While not infringing on their trademark sound, CANNIBAL CORPSE and multi-platinum first time CORPSE producer NEIL KERNON (Queensryche, Nevermore, Skrew, Macabre and many more) focused on technically powerful guitars and unmatched bass & drum syncopation that will leave the current crop of corporate makeup metallers slack jawed. “Pit Of Zombies” rips with alternating tempos and time changes that never leaves the listener behind, but drags them screaming into the pit. “Mutilation Of The Cadaver” is another prime chunk of meat that sees vocalist George “Corpsegrinder” Fisher easily spewing forth his finest vocal fury on record (including an unnerving fourteen second scream). Eight albums in and CANNIBAL CORPSE have never defied their core fan base, continually strengthening their place as the most enduring, relevant and uncompromising Death Metal band ever. With GORE OBSESSED introducing future classics “Sanded Faceless”, “Hung And Bled”, “When Death Replaces Life” and “Dormant Bodies Bursting”, CANNIBAL CORPSE have buried any and all possibility of being dethroned as the reigning purveyors of aural gore and sonic splatter. Sure to once again peek the interest of those who feel it their responsibility to protect the moral fiber of America's youth culture, CANNIBAL CORPSE again turned to long time friend and artist VINCENT LOCKE to create a visual representation of GORE OBSESSED that could match the band's musical depiction. Having set a high standard with album covers for BUTCHERED AT BIRTH and TOMB OF THE MUTILATED, LOCKE, as expected, delivered the gore, and more. The CD cover for GORE OBSESSED will be masked for retail outlets as no “censored” cover will be available domestically. Upon the release of GORE OBSESSED, CANNIBAL CORPSE will headline the 2002 SPRING NECK BREAK U.S. Tour, which, in its second year will once again feature the top extreme Metal bands in the world.

5 out of 5 stars Gore Obsessed.......2006-09-29

This is good death metal album as usual, by those guys. For those who like brutal death metal should give it a try! This is not their best, but it has solid songs and musicanship is top notch as usual. Standout tracks are gloomy When Death Replaces Life with creative harmonies and brutal slow section! Amother obvious standouts are opening Hatchet To the Head. This one has cool brutal riffs and perfect vokills. "Pit of Zombies" has avesome catchy feel to it and nice guitar solo.
"Dormant Bodies Burtsting" has amazing riffs and scary atmosphere as well!
Overall, a bit weaker then their 2006 "Kill" BUT GOOD!

5 out of 5 stars INCREDIBLE.......2006-02-09

I bought CC's "VILE" on cassette tape a year or two ago, and still listen to it over and over in my car to this day. I just picked up my second CC album, "GORE OBSESSED", on CD today. It had a black cardboard slipcase covering up the front artwork, for good reason. If any little kid saw this album sitting on the shelf, it would scar his mind. Whoever does the artwork for this band is extremely talented. Musically, this album is INCREDIBLE and JAW DROPPING. The riffs, basslines, drums, and lyrics stick in my head. They are brutal, in-your-face, and memorable. All of the members in this band are extremely talented. I can't wait for their next CD. I heared it's going to be called "Kill".

3 out of 5 stars An acquired taste........2006-01-13

Ok, for starters, I should state that I am not a death metal fanatic. I primarily listen to classic and progressive rock and classical music like 19th century opera. So obviously I am an unlikely person to be giving this a positive review. However I am also a fan of Horror movies, and that is why I got into cannibal corpse. I tried unsuccessfully to enjoy their music several years ago. I loved the concept of the band, their cover art, their disgusting lyrics, so I purchased a copy of Butchered at Birth, and frankly I couldn't stand it. It wasn't the music, I enjoy some thrash metal (Slayer is a particular favorite of mine), I just couldn't like Chris Barne's voice, it pissed me off. I gave away my copy and felt pissed that I had wasted my money. So now, six years later, my curiosity had risen and I decided to get another album, this time Gore Obsessed, featuring Corpsegrinder as the vocalist. I must say I like Corpsegrinder much better. He still has that same cookie monster growl quality, but I like being able to understand the lyrics, plus he has more range and variation in his vocals. Barnes just sounds like he's throwing up, he could be saying complete gibberish and it would sound exactly the same.

So regarding this album, the lyrics are great fun, really disgusting graphic violence that sounds like a cheap b horror film. And the music is really great, varying tempos and technically complex riffs and screaming guitar solos that sound like the screams of one of this album's many victims. However, as I said, this is not for everyone. I have to be in a very specific mood in order to enjoy this music, but at least its proof that you do not have to exclusively like death metal in order to appreciate this album.

4 out of 5 stars when death replace gay music!!.......2005-11-26

I must say that its my first cannibal corpse purchase, and it kicks a** big time. I'm used to bands like slayer, deicide or nile, but this is a new favorite in my list. At times it sounds like Dying Fetus meeting Bolt Thrower meeting Deicide meeting Pantera. Still it has that great twist that make CC so good. Music wise, CC is very complex.. The tempo and riffs changes at every ten seconds. I wonder how these guys can remember those songs live....... Lyrically, those people who said that the lyrics are funny are half right. Yeah they aer funny, but not in the way of a joke. Its more in the way of saying: Oh my god, that is so sick. With a smile on your face. Anyhow great album but not for everyone, this is why I gave it four stars. By the way the bonus track of the cover of metallica's "no remorse" is awesome. It reminds us of the time when metallica wasn't gay (before the black album).
Favorite tracks: Hatchet to the head, Dormant bodies bursting, compelled to lacerate, sanded faceless, When death replace life.
If your a death metal fan buy it, if not: Go f*** yourself.
