5 out of 5 stars Dreamwheel In The Sky Keeps on Burnin'!.......2005-04-05

Deamwheel was born from the ashes of Saint Vitus and Obsessed, and was the brainchild of Scott Weinrich aka "Wino", former member of the aformentioned bands. This EP was released in 1999 amid the burgeoning popularity of rap-metal and TRL music, and was subsequently ignored by the pro-corporate, "don't think, buy now" media. Was this because the music was unworthy? Here are my ratings of the songs based out of 5 *****:
"Deamwheel" - The titular song from the album fires off with a fuzz-box guitar and pounding drum, which then incorporates a heavy bass line and high-hat cymbal crashing. Wino's vocals then kick in: "We only came to dream. We only came to sleep." A mid to slow tempo quagmire pace then ensues. Wino's vocals are very reminiscent of early Sabbath Ozzy. According to the lyric notes, this song was derived from an "ancient Mexican verse for the Dead." Well, this tune could easily AWAKEN the dead! Awesome, KILLER guitar solo slams the dead back to their graves. Rating - *****
"Burnin' In" - Very heavy, distorted guitars and super thumping bass jolt this song into being. Wino's vocals then come ROARING in like an uncaged, starving lion! Wino really expends alot of anger/emotion into his singing on this tune. The tune could easily be a '90's version of "War Pigs". Great political lyrics help bring the song to life: "It's lies they're tellin, yes indeed. It's death they're sellin', to feed they're greed." Give 'em hell Wino! Rating - *****
"Re-Alignment/Higher Power" - A short instrumental that is punctuated with a distorted cymbal roll that melts into high-pitched guitar feedback. This crescendos and breaks into a furious guitar solo that is very Misfits sounding. This fast and furious guitar solo has an abrupt STOP....
"Sun Stoned" - Very heavy bass and guitar plunges this love song into a molasses consistency tempo. Very psychadelic, Wah-Wah guitar breaks and solo that sound very Cream/Iron Butterfly like. A Wino guitar helps to slowly fade out the tune. Rating - ****
"C, Yourself" - Again, VERY heavy bass, drums and guitar open the song. Super thumping bass and bone crushing tempo lead into Wino's fuzzily distorted vocals. Dave Sherman's bass must be turned to 11 on this tune! A very heavy, heavymetal gem. Rating - *****
This was a great, molten slab of pure HEAVY metal! Very early Sabbath sounding but not at the expense of being total clones. The ignorance and ignoring of this album by the powers that be, just proves that if it ISN'T played on the radio, then it must be good! Feed your brain and soul. Buy this!

5 out of 5 stars Amazing band.......2002-06-02

If you're familiar with The Obsessed or St. Vitus then you know the warm and heavy guitar tones it seems only Wino can produce. And you're probably also familiar with a singing voice filled with the soul, wisdom, and grit that only a 20 year hard rock veteran that no one ever heard of can produce. This guy is like Ozzy or Lemmy, they're lifers who can't do anything else but rock, but what differentiates Wino is that he never became a living cartoon character like the other 2, he never got famous enough to have the chance. Here, he surrounds himself with one of the tightest rhythm sections ever assembled in Dave Sherman and Gary Isom and they seem to fit in with Wino nicely. And did I mention the title track has one of the best riffs ever? Do yourself and these guys a favor and buy this EP, while you're at it buy their 2 full length albums Jug Fulla Sun and Elusive Truth too.
