5 out of 5 stars A Great Goblin Soundtrack Gets Refurbished.......2006-05-23

I reviewed this CD awhile back, so I won't go into details about the songs on this CD. However, as happy as I was when I purchased the 1998 CD, I was greatly disappointed with the sound quality, which sounded like it was recorded on gauze tape. Apparently, someone at Cinevox felt the same way, for in late 2005/early 2006 Zombi was reissued on their "Gold Tracks" subsidiary (the spine reads CD MDF 606). Is the Gold Tracks reissue worth the additional investment? Absolutely! The remastering breathes new life into the recordings and with the additional volume and clarity, the bonus tracks certainly stand on their own.

The downside? Unfortunately, Cinevox managed to omit the beginning "pickup" notes on Safari, Torte in faccia, and Tirassegno. Casual listeners will probably not notice, but to the people who grew up with the album it's a little bothersome. Also, the last track, Zombi (the living dead's voice!); on the 1998 reissue it's in mono. Here, it's given a stereo "bounce" with a half-second delay on the right channel: it's still an awful track.

The packaging is a digipak-foldout of the original 1978 album release cover with a MUCH better design than the 1998 CD. It comes with an eight-page booklet with more photos but with the same synopsis.

Overall, a fantastic soundtrack gets a desperately needed makeover. I give the 2006 release 4.5 stars out of five. Buy it!

5 out of 5 stars Goblin: Lords of Cinematic Rock!.......2005-06-25

Zombi (1979) was the soundtrack to the Italian/European release of the classic horror film Dawn of the Dead. The U.S. release featured a few tracks from this album (the rest were library music and non-licensed songs). The music is helmed by keyboard virtuosio Claudio Simonetti. A lot of synthesisers and guitars are used in this album (especially the track used in the mall invasion and end credits). Even the mall's musak was composed by Goblin! If you loved Dawn of the Dead then you'll definetely dig this soundtrack. It's a little pricey but worth every penny.

      Highly recommended!

5 out of 5 stars this site sucks.......2005-04-08

amazon is the worst retailor to buy any goblin or dawn of the dead music from. they repeatedly told me that the zombi soundtrack was in stock. when i tried to order it they told me they were out of stock yet their site said it was in stock for 6 months after that!
I had to order from tower.com (who are awesome!) Amazon is not a great site to order from and I am dissapointed with them.

This cd is so worth it, so don't be discouraged by this site..... serch around if you buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Goblin all the way. . ........2004-11-16

Finally. . . all of the major Goblin cues for this film have been released in one tidy little package. Only complaint I have is with the cover artwork. . . I personally would have preferred something along the lines of the Italian one-sheet artwork, or even a variation on the American release artwork, but that's a minor quibble at best. If you're a DAWN fan, your collection simply isn't complete without this one.

5 out of 5 stars Know what it is you're buying and you wont be disappointed!.......2004-04-04

First, this is the Soundtrack to the ITALIAN cut of the film, that's why it's (A) an ITALIAN IMPORT and (B) titled 'Zombi' as that was the Italian versions release name.
The Italian cut of the movie, available previously only on Japanese Laserdisc and European VHS/DVD but coming to R1 DVD this year, used ALL the tracks on this CD, but the US/English language European cut used only a few of the (best) tracks on this CD. The mall Muzak (Called "the Gonk") contrary to another writer, is NOT here but is replaced by the cheesy elevator-muzak 70s porn sounding Goblin version (Zombi sexy).
Secondly, Goblin WERE the only ones to compose music for the film, even the versions where not all the music is theirs. The rest of the music on the film with which most of the reviewers here must be familiar, came from the De Wolfe music Library - they were tracks chosen by Romero from this Film music Library!
Some rare Vinyl copies of this 'incidental' music by Herbert Chapell & others (The Gonk, the shopping spree music and so on) still exist (Probably forgotten in Library files), but have otherwise never been (re)released, although they will be released (With none of the Goblin stuff) later this year.
Previously unavailable tracks on this CD are a great addition - the throbbing moog-synth sequence landing on the mall roof for example, or the alternate Dawn theme played when Peter is 'executing' the Ghetto basement Zombies. If it's the haunting synth/Prog Rock Goblin stuff you want - this is it! If it's the quirky Jazz and mall muzak you are looking for you will be disappointed. For my money this is an awesome CD - very little music from low budget 70s productions has had the longevity of this material, it still sends shivers down my spine when I hear it, and although it would be nice to have it rounded off with the 'Gonk' muzak, the Goblin tracks evoke the film perfectly.

Tracks 11,12,14 & 16 do appear in the movie contrary to other writers - Segments of track 11 are used throughout the movie (Peter killing the ghetto basement Zombies), clips from track 12 are used throughout, 14 is used when landing on the mall roof "I guess the power's not off in this area!" and is one of the tracks most missed from previous releases. Track 16 is a collection of the Orchestral 'stabs' used, again, throughout the film, such as when the Titles first appear, the protagonists first look into the mall and so on.

Like Dawn of the Dead? This is the most complete collection of the GOBLIN tracks from it around, ever.

Oh and a final note from a Zombie pedant, the Zombie 'voices' aren't moog synth produced, they are various objects being dragged up and down electric bass and guitar strings.....!

        5 out of 5 stars Five stars, but with a caveat. . . ........2004-11-16

If you're a DAWN archivist like me, then you need to own this one. However, I just noticed the "new and used from $69.95" price tag on the item. . . ummmmm, not sure I'd recommend it for those pesos. But if you've got the bank account and feel like splurging, then more power to ya!

5 out of 5 stars Dawn of the dead!! great album........2002-03-28

I love the four main songs to this album called

        -L'alba de morte viviente
        -Zombi (sexy)
        -La Caccia
-L'alba de morte viviente (alternate take)

The opening theme is worth buying this album first off.
"La Caccia" is an upbeat techno-jazz song one of Goblin's best.
It's featured twice in the film. (Romero must have liked it.)
Zombi is a great techno song. It's featured when Roger, Steven,
and Peter are in the mall running from the Zombies.
I give this one five stars......next to the "Get Carter"
        soundtrack this one's the best.
