Customer Reviews:
What A Waste.......2005-11-11
What happened? I was so excited when a friend of mine gave me From Zeros first album to listen to. I thought wow these guys are great. I loved the guitars, the lyrics, everything. I was even more excited when My So-Called Life was release. I thought I had a lot to look forward to....boy was I wrong. I am sad to say I could not find one (not even one!!) song on this album that compared to the songs on the previous album. Buyer beware. Because this album deserves nothing more than to be described with this simple phrase: "It sucks"
Not Just A Few Steps Down In Quality -- They Fell Down The Stairs!.......2005-06-27
Remember back in 2001? Nu-metal was at it's saturation point. Remember all of those nu-metal bands that came out? Switched? No One? Thank god we haven't heard from some of these groups since then, eh? But From Zero, they were definitely an oasis that year. Their major label debut, "One Nation Under" definitely stuck out from the crowd, making them one of the few decent debuts out of the sea of crap we had to swim through. Fast forward to 2003: From Zero were one of the few groups left over that actually got to record a follow-up. That follow-up, "My So-Called Life," however, didn't add up to much.
I think the main problem with From Zero's second album is that they sound stuck in an identity crisis. Sure, songs like "Time Of Day," "Myself" and a rocking cover of Phil Collins' "I Don't Care Anymore" are reminiscent of a really great band. But elsewhere, they try new things, and unfortunately fail. Such failure is perfectly captured in the proposed single "Sorry," where frontman Jett reduces himself to some really whiney, awful ranting (and rapping). Not just that, his lyrics are rather poor, not just on this song, but throughout the album. Musically, it's hard to hear the same band that brought us "One Nation Under." When they're not repeating themselves, they just sound watered down. I guess the biggest compliment I can give this album is that doesn't sound like anyone else, but that's not exactly a good thing.
I'm not sure what happened to From Zero, but if I had to guess, I'd say their time has expired. They shared the same label as Adema, who, after the label shifted management, got tossed aside. And I'm guessing since From Zero weren't even as successful as them, that they got trampled underfoot as well. I could be wrong, afterall, it would be nice to hear another album from these guys, especially without major label constraints, which is what I feel is really holding this album down. Regardless of their future, I feel that From Zero are/were still a great band, and I highly recommend their debut to fans of alternative/hard rock. As far as this album goes, proceed with caution.
Their Debut is what to buy.......2005-03-10
This album is dissappointing and not anything like From Zero's debut. It has a few good songs but most of them are just too slow but I like them and ill give um 3 stars, more like 2.5 but what are ya gunna do? Just foget bout this album and buy their debut.
My So-Called Life.......2005-01-09
Underneath all the cliches that From Zero seem to stumble into on their albums, there's a sense that the band is really trying their hardest to make their songs shine, and although Jett's lyrics really do need work, there's a certain openness in them that is somewhat refreshing when compared to other bands in the genre. He's also remarkably melodic in his singing, another barrier that the band manages to break. However, albums can't rely on sincerity alone. Although songs like Believe and the band's cover of the Phil Collins track I Don't Care Anymore make you almost want to enjoy the rest of the album, the third generation nu-metal riffs and horribly colloquial lyrical content causes the rest of the album to suffer tremendously. The band has the drive to succeed and their heart is definitely in the right place, but they are missing the most important part of the songwriting process: the talent.
My so called life departs from One Nation Under. .......2004-08-15
Where did the strong melodies that were so apparent on some of the songs in the first album go? Someone find them again and put them back. It's not funny anymore.
What happened to this band? Please come back. PLEASE! Dont try linkin park, eminem or limp bizkit anymore... please. Let that originality shine through that was so apparent in the first album come back again on album 3. No more "everyone elses music" okay? These guys have so much potential and they had an original formula in the first album and it beats me why they would depart from it to sound unoriginal. From Zero bring back the real you on your next album. Thanks so much for One Nation Under. I hope "My So Called Life" is just a growing experience and not the end all be all. Remember... the basic winning formula is ... strong melodies, harmonies and hard no holds bar rock.

This is the way ,I think, Purcell should sound. No pomp and surcomstance but only great music.
ALL THE MUSIC YOU EVER NEED!!.......2003-05-23
This boxed set is by far one of the best purchases I have ever made. As a Purcell freak, this hits every button I have. The cast of characters include the inequitable Robert King, New College Choir, Bowman, and a host of other venerable persons. Likewise the attention to period performance of these works makes it an essential addition to the library of any serious anglophile/Musicologist etc. Now if only the Britten Realizations of all Purcell's songs could be recorded alongside the originals! You will Love this set!

Almost complete.......2005-05-28
I love this show. I bought the DVD collection when it came out. There are some really great episodes. The soundtrack would have been complete if the 'Late at night' song would have been on it. I have been searching for a certain song for a long time. I have no idea what it is called, but it has the words 'release me' and it plays on the dance episode when Angela and Jordan are outside and Brian comes out and sees them together. Then the song 'What is love' comes on right afterwards and kinda drowns it out. (...)
missing key songs.......2005-04-11
If youre a fan of the whole genre of MSCL then you'll enjoy this cd, but as previously stated important songs in the series failed to make it onto the cd. Such songs are "Late at Night" by Buffalo Tom, which is the song in the famous hand holding scene. Some of the songs on this cd were actually in the show such as 1,2 and the theme song. but if your looking for red, the song jared leto sings in why jordan cant read u can skip this cd and download it off the internet. Overall if youre a diehard fan of MSCL i recommend it but if youre not skip it.
A teenage fan.......2005-03-19
O.K., I started watching MSCL a year ago-reruns. I wasn't alive when the show first came on, but I fell in love with it, it was the first-and only-show that amazed me. The script was spectacular, the actors amazing, and the music was to die for!No show will ever be able to top this one! I was heartbroken when I learned that the show had been canceled, and when I found out there was a cd, it brought my hopes up again! I soon realized the truth, all the really amazing songs, like "Red", and "Blister In The Sun", weren't on the cd! i was so suprized! And "What is Love" from the episode Life of Brian (my favorite episode, Brian-I love you!) wasn't there either! If You are a MSCL fanatic, make sure you read these reviews! (P.S.-Person who wrote the review about adding actual lines from the show in the cd, you are so right! That would have been great!)
Doesn't Have All The Great Songs..........2005-01-05
Yes, it has "Make It Home" the homeless girl's anthem song from the "So-Called Angels" christmas episode, and the theme song, as well as "Soda Jerk" from Buffalo Tom, but it doesn't have all the others!
My biggest complaint was that it didn't have "Late At Night" otherwise remembered as "I'd Do It If I Could, I Hope You Know I Would" from the episode where Jordan walks down the hallway holding Angela's hand for the first time in public. I had been searching for YEARS to find that title!! I knew it was on a Buffalo Tom cd, but didn't know it was entitled "Late At Night."
Also sorely missing from the cd are "Blister in the Sun" (Violent Femmes) where Angela gets over Jordan and dances around the room, "Dreams" (Cranberries) where Angela repeats it over and over on the first episode while crying of heartbreak, "Sedated" (Ramones) the song Rayanne attempts to sing for Jordan's band that's Between Names, and "What Is Love?" the moment Rickie dances with Delia at the school dance.
I would have loved if the producers had included sporatic dialogue either leading into the songs or in between songs to help us reminesce such a wonderful show...
This show seemed to be the first teen show to sprout a soundtrack of the generation, alongside 90210. Now there's plenty with Dawson's Creek and the O.C. But none of those held a candle to My So-Called life's brutal honesty, unfortunatley the soundtrack isn't that strong.
What!?!.......2004-07-11
I LOVE MSCL but this soundtrack is a real bummer because the 2 reasons i watch the show are the clothes and the music but they left out a most of the good songs like "red", "i wanna be sedated" and "blister in the sun"(my favorite part of the whole series is where she was dancing to that song). what i ended up doing was buying this cd and adding the songs i felt were missing.
