4 out of 5 stars A Really "Merciless" Record [4.5 Stars].......2006-11-19

Wherever you fall in the realm of hardcore music listening, whether it be just a casual surveyor or a diehard elitist, it is most likely that you have at least stumbled across the name Most Precious Blood. And with good reason too, since these guys are one of the few acts today we seem bent on taking hardcore back to its real roots. Although the band is both straight edge and vegan, you do not have to be either to enjoy the music. In fact this is far from the preachy "my way or no way" lyrics or a band like say Earth Crisis. MPB just do what they do best; Bring the rukus.

"Merciless" is probably all around the strongest record this band has released thus far. Now of course fans are immediately going to be crying "Nothin In Vein! Nothing In Vein!" and if that is your favorite record, it's understandable. However dismissing the music the band is currently putting out because Tom is no longer the frontman is simply foolish. Most Precious Blood still embody the true spirit of NYC style hardcore; Loud, Fast and Heavy. The guitars pound out plenty of punishing rhythmns, and although the disc is not oversaturated with breakdowns (a high point) when they do make their way into the songs it feels very natural. There are some small leads and even a few moments of riffing that compliment the angry atmosphere very well. Rob sounds more adapt at roaring over the malignant violence that is the band's sound than ever before, and the larger confidence he seems to have in his voice is very apparent. The rhythmn section isn't exactly stellar, but in terms of the overall sound the band creates, they fit in just fine. As far as the song selection is concerned, any of the thirteen tracks is a keeper. "Shark Ethic" and "Mad As Match Hare" are my personal favorites (and probably the two best), but other hits like "Two Men Enter, One Man Leaves," "Damage Control Freak," and "Curse Of The Immortal" all pack vintage MPB fury. Another high point of the disc is its use of excellent samples. They're used just sparingly enough not to be overly dramatic (Killwhitneydead), yet there's plenty to fully encompass the disc. Overall there's very little to complain about here.

This is far from conventional tough-guy hardcore. Most Precious Blood have successfully created one of the most overlooked releases in all the scene, and it's a shame that they don't get more credit. Their ethics are as hardcore as it gets, and that's apparent in both their attitudes and the way they write and play their music. "Merciless" is great front to back (if not lacking a little diversity) and I'll go as far as to say it's the best record the band has put out so far. Pick this up and support the core of bands who are attempting to take Hardcore back from its emo-riddled mainstream audience of today.

1 out of 5 stars Hey kids, you're not past the mainstream quite yet.......2006-03-06

If you like this band, there's a good probability you have a myspace with a pseudo-toughguy "GO VEG OR DIE" PETA2 logo tiled in the background, and there's a good chance your screenname is something close to "xxxBlEeDiNgRosE223." There's nothing special about your little "STRIAGHTxxxEDGE" core bands; look into some real music.
- Thus says the Pellington

2 out of 5 stars "you were supposed to be invincible....".......2005-11-28

a very disappointing release from MPB. i guess i expected too. the singers no tom sheehan. if you are looking for a good ol "nothing in vain" sound you wont find it here. this album just seems inferior in every way. dont let the free mp3 "shark ethic" on trustkill fool you, thats not what the album sounds like. if it did i wouldnt be so upset with the new sound.

5 out of 5 stars another great album.......2005-11-18

This album seems a bit more 'metally' and 'heavier' than their previous ones, but don't let that deter you. Rob's singing on some of the tracks is one of the main standouts, the riffs are very very catchy - really stay in your head, the lyrics in this album also seem to have progressed to be less about personal things and more about the problems of our society in a kind of symbolic wordplay kind of way. This album has a lot of aggression in it which is also great...highly recommended to anyone who likes metal-influenced hardcore or quality metalcore. oh...and read the lyrics of 'diet for a new america' - with an open mind and have a think about it

3 out of 5 stars Please enter a title for your review.......2005-10-30

I didn't even get that this band was supposed to be NYHC on their last album, because the production was so slick and alternative sounding. I took them as a bunch of alt-rock kids playing at being hardcore, and not entirely getting the point of the genre, so it's kinda weird to realise I had it completely backwards. Now I guess I need to ask what a genuine NYHC band are doing trying to sound so commercial. Either way the songwriting is still mediocre.

4 out of 5 stars The last review is obviously from a rookie........2004-02-01

MPB is a completely different type of music than AFI; that's comparing apples to oranges. If anything MPB is inspired by Sick of it All, Burn, Indecision and Madball. The last kid probably went out and got the new AFI cd and a shirt of their's from the mall then saw these guys tag along and thought; "Wow; if they know AFI they have to be a GOD at music." No; these guys are not gods at music; just what they do. Perfect example; Linkin Park and Lost Prophets: Lost Prophets; good, Linkin Park; SUCK! This is straight up OLD-SCHOOL sounding hardcore protest f-u music. Only cool bands get signed to TRULY independent labels like Exit. Even though these guys never headline they are a great band and will get you to feel it once you pop this in.

4 out of 5 stars not quite the same league as afi.......2003-04-02

where do i begin in reviewing this album. first of all i would like to say these guys are good, but thats it, just good. alot of their songs carry very heavy chords and alot of screaming, which is good, if you like that kind of thing. the influence from afi is there which is one of the best things going for the band. i recommend this cd strongly, it make take some to get use to, but you'd be missing out if you didn't listen.

Album Description

Most Precious Blood has roots like an oak tree in the New York City hardcore scene. "Indecision" is more than a credit on a musician's resume, its an assurance that the players in question have made a contribution to hardcore music. There's a raw energy you feel in New York City that is unlike any other place in the world, and as products of Gotham City, MPB capture all that raw energy, emotion, and passion of a city always on the brink... of something wonderful, or disastrous. Most Precious Blood arrived with a vengeance, feeling they had to prove they were not just another "ex-members of" band back for glory. They are a new machine. The song writing has matured like a fine wine, now focusing more on melody, proving that you can be catchy while remaining heavier than gravity. Although their first album as MPB, this is collectively the seventh album for these members overall, and by far the most extraordinary example of true devotion to heavy music and hardcore.! This is undoubtedly an instant classic.

5 out of 5 stars does indecision justice.......2003-12-14

great new school hardcore cd. i saw them live with hatebreed, hope conspiracy, and with honor. they definitely put on a great show. although, i'm not a fan of the new vocalist on the new cd. this cd is better. definitely pick up if you liked or indecision or like hardcore. standout tracks: in effigy and less than zero.

4 out of 5 stars For Those I Love I Will Sacrifice.......2003-08-09

...

I bought this album when I saw Most Precious Blood live with Hatebreed. The played a good set. I got to meet Justin, Rachel, and Matt from the band. They signed my CD and were really nice. Most Precious Blood is one of Indecision's album titles. Indecision featured current members of Most Precious Blood. Their guitarist, Rachel, is a female which is rare in a metal band. I don't mean to take anything away from her, she really rocks. Vocalist Tom Sheehan (who has since been replaced) has a strong, screech-like scream. The album cover is a bathtub with blood in it and on the back it shows a man in the bathtub bleeding from the wrist and has the lyrics from the song "The Lantern" Love is stronger than Death at the bottom. Inside the booklet, the band explains that the album cover is just abstract artwork made by their good friend Justin Borucki and they in no way condone suicide. It goes on to say that they put a lot of thought into their album covers and they want it to "help illustrate the lyrics". It ends with the powerful statement FOR THOSE I LOVE I WILL SACRIFICE....
The opening track, "Less Than Zero", which contains the standout lyrics Burn my fingertips so that no one knows my name, is a favorite of mine. It lets the listener know that the album will be good. It's followed by "Apparation", another one of my favorites. Along with great music, the band writes amazing lyrics, some about death and love loss. For example, the song "Sincerely," contains the lyrics "I can set a watch to the change of your heart" and "The Lantern" has the lyrics "I'd give my life just to save yours". After the twelve regular tracks on the CD, there are twelve tracks of nothing, each twenty-six seconds in durration. After that, there are a bunch of tracks of the band messing around and talking, some of which are funny. This is followed by some songs that I think are demo versions of a few songs on the CD or something like that, which makes the entire CD ninety-nine tracks and about one hour and six minutes long.
The CD is a must for any Indecision fan. It's also good for fans of bands such as Shai Hulud, Eighteen Visions, From Autumn To Ashes, Bane, or Norma Jean. I suggest you pick this up and I'm sure you'll like it.

5 out of 5 stars A must've!!.......2003-06-26

mpb brings you an album title "nothing in vein" and yes its not in vein that i support hardcore music because it deserves my support! Now mpb's album "nothing in vein " has an pure sound that will leave you wanting more and more from these guys! Buy it now!

5 out of 5 stars Indecision Returns.......2002-11-17

So you might've heard of a little band called Indecision, ya know, that legendary hardcore powerhouse. Well they had some difficulty in their band and in 2000 they broke up. However, feelings of the band were still up in the air, and one year later, they reformed as Most Precious Blood (titled after one of their Indescision albums), and put out this album: "Nothing In Vein." It's everything I expected, and so much more.

Everything you loved about Indecision is still here. Insane hard driving guitars from Rachel and Justin. Tom Sheehan's shrilling screams are still present and sound better than ever, and the tight rythym section will knock your socks off. You won't find any of the generic metalcore melodic parts or solos here, just hard driving emotional moshcore. This belongs in every hardcore fan's library.

Top tracks: "Less Than Zero", "Apparition", "The Lantern", "Sincerely."

5 out of 5 stars Incredible.......2002-10-28

The first time i heard the first track start i couldn't believe how great it was. MPB is originally Indecision which broke up a year earlier. This is one of there best work. I'd have to say that this falls under one of the best hardcore cd's of all time, in my view that is.

1 out of 5 stars Potential nerve damage.......2007-05-14

Years ago there were albums of music to break your lease by. This one outdoes them all. It consists of the most godawful din masquerqding as music. I think I'll wait for their acoustic album.

5 out of 5 stars A great hardcore album.......2005-12-30

I've been a big fan of MPB for awhile now, and it only felt right to give one of my favorite albums a review.
Our Lady of Annihiliation has a great sound. There isn't a song on here that I don't like listening to. It's aggressive, in-your-face hardcore. Great messages exist throughout the album, a song that shows this is "It Runs In The Blood."

If you liked Nothing In Vain, you will more than likely love this album. I actually think despite it being slightly more polished than Nothing In Vain, it sounds stronger and more powerful.

I also like the hidden tracks with the radio interviews/band questions/etc., they even do a grindcore bit at the very end with Rob's and Rachel's pit bulls as vocals. It's humorously good.

My four favorite tracks: The Great Red Shift, Collusionist, Your Picture Hung Itself, It Runs In The Blood

5 out of 5 stars Great Band, great album.......2005-11-18

This album is for anyone who likes quality hardcore with a few metal influences here and there. Don't listen to anyone else - this album is gold. Great vocals, great drumming, great riffs. With great sing-alongs like "SAVE YOUR LOVE", "WHAT WOULD YOU DIE FOR?" and "NO GUTS....NO GLORY" this album kicks ass. Oh, and great cover too...

3 out of 5 stars Potential: But needs work........2005-10-20

MOST PRECIOUS BLOOD - Our Lady of Annihilation
-
I had this CD for about a year and I still really can't get into it. Upon hearing "The Great Red Shift" and "Your Picture Hung Itself" I was quite impressed and picked up the album. Sadly there are only a few real gems... The band has a lot of potential but this album is lacking...
One, It is too short! Truthfully I don't mind short albums - but they have to be fulfilling. (i.e. Hot Damn!! - By Every Time I Die) This album however, just didn't satisfy.
Two, Production is too muddy for my taste....
Three, Musically they can suffice, but lets be honest, unless their packing some talent I haven't heard yet heard, they really don't stand out musically.
I'm still looking forward to hearing their new album, which just came out. Hopefully they have improved on what they were aiming for.

New York hardcore legends' third full-length release. ''Merciless'' encompasses both the lyrical themes and music found on this release. ''The songs are a culmination of years and years of life experience: Betrayal, loss, grief, abandonment but forever trudging on in the face of immortal adversity. Life is merciless as are all the new songs," says guitarist Justin Brannan. Though it promises to be the most punishing Most Precious Blood release yet, the band has also expanded their musical repertoire to include orchestral and electronic sounds with production co-handled by themselves and Dean Balutonis.
