In 1992, when Jackyl's raucous debut album hit with songs such as "She Loves My Cock," "Redneck Punk," and the anthemic "I Stand Alone," it was clear what the band was about: Southern-fried fun and sleaziness. Singer Jesse James Dupree was celebrated for "playing" a chainsaw in the band's "The Lumberjack" song, but the schtick quickly wore thin. His first solo outing is a more mature 12-song offering that's rife with bluesy, aggressive Southern hard rock with some sly twists. Dupree's raspy Brian Johnson/Steven Tyler amalgamation of a voice works well on the swampy "Losing My Mind," the Joe Tex cover "I Gotcha," and the funky "Satisfied." Balladic songs such as "Second Chance" and the mainstream "There Comes a Time" don't fare so well. Dupree is most fun when he's a wild-eyed Southern boy, rollicking on the funky and soulful Sly & the Family Stone gem, "Higher." --Katherine Turman

1 out of 5 stars awful.......2007-07-22

This album is horrible. I am a big Jesse fan and a big Jackyl fan, and I thought this album was awful.

4 out of 5 stars J.J. Dupree spreads his toes, uhm wings........2000-07-07

There aren't a lot of CDs out there that give you great songs from beginning to end. Jesse James almost accomplishes this task. With the exception of two songs, (Second Chance and There Comes A Time) this CD delivers great songs that instantly grab onto you. The album is a slight departure from Jackyl, but if you like Jackyl, and rock with an attitude, you'll like 'Foot Fetish'. Smart songs, driving rock, and that J. J. Dupree attitude comes through. Bonus: the songs on the CD translate well into his live shows. Pick it up and enjoy.

4 out of 5 stars Jesse's solo album fares very well!.......2000-06-12

Jackyl's frontman does a great job on his solo project. The best cuts include "Mainline," "Losing My Mind, "Satisfied, "I Gotcha," and "Higher." As good as the album is, however, it just doesn't stand up against his work in Jackyl. Jesse just seems to have more fun when he's with Jeff, Tom, Jimmy & Chris. It's a very good album, however, and I do recommend it to any Jackyl fan, and to anyone who loves good ol' fashioned rock.

5 out of 5 stars Dumper and Verna THANK YOU.......2000-06-09
