"Elmer Bernstein conducts film scores of Bernard Herrmann".......2004-10-28
Milan Records presents Elmer Bernstein conducting The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra with this digitally remastered "Bernard Herrmann Film Scores ", from "CITIZEN KANE" [1942], "THE DEVIL AND DANIEL WEBSTER" [1942], "THE MAN WHO KNEW TOO MUCH" [1956], "PSYCHO" [1959], "THE WRONG MAN" [1957], "VERTIGO" [1958], "NORTH BY NORTHWEST" [1959], "THE BRIDE WORE BLACK" [1967], "FAHRENHEIT 451" [1966], "TAXI DRIVER" [1973]...and the final track is "BERNARD HERRMANN ON FILM MUSIC" [recorded early 1970s]...which clearly states why music is an additional character to any film, without it the film would be incomplete...during the silent film era, the piano player kept the audience tuned into what was happening, whether it was a love scene or danger lurking around every corner.
Herrmann completely mesmerizes us with his themes, blending variations with eloquent and subtle cues...depicting each character in the film, and fine tuned to the story-line ~ he was a genius and knew his craft well...relies heavily on strings, usually with lyrical solos for the winds...absolute in capturing the essence of each scene, musically letting the audience in through his score ~ the result is colors come shining through with wonderful arrangements...many of the classic film scores have become cult favorites among "film-score-buffs" like me and collectors alike.
Each film score is superb and very strong...the balance of the instruments and experimental touches of Bernard Herrmann are all just brilliant ~ working with directors like Welles, Dieterle, Hitchcock, Truffaut and Scorsese all were very conscious of classic film music and and Herrmann's cues really came through...each outing was nothing less than a bravo performance...those who ignored Herrmann during his career, really missed out...cause all the diehard collectors of film music knew he was a WINNER! ~ Bernard Herrmann [1911-1975].

The Best in Hungarian Jazz.......2005-09-23
I received the LP as a gift in 1990. The Music by Gabor Szabo was excellent. I so loved the LP that I have the CD Version. The Music was excellent. The Instrumental Duos with Chick Correa were the best. Even though this was Gabor Szabo's Last Recording, it appears to me that he went through the musical details to make a classic [as he did with his previous recordings]. This is a Classic Recording destined to last Forever.
Gabor left us far too young.......2004-03-28
Jazz guitar greats have always been in short supply. The father of the instrument was Charlie Christian who died in his early 20's, the incredible Wes Montgomery died very young, thankfully we still have the inimitable and superbly tastefull Kenny Burrell, and the fine player-vocalists George Benson and John Pizzarelli. Alas, Hungarian born Gabor Szabo died young also, but no one brought more unique expressiveness and pop excitement, and by his recordings, still does than the Gypsy man Gabor. His mystic-jazz-exotica is instantly recognizable and delicious as well. The fact is, anything he left us from the incredibly creative 60's is a delicacy still to be savored.

Album Description
This was Hadda's one and only album to be recorded as an album - i.e. it's not a compilation - prior to her rediscovery in the 1990s. It has never been reissued before in its original format. Ace's limited edition "Hip Pocket" series faithfully reproduces the artwork and design format of the original Crown album release, making it both eminently attractive and collectable.

Hadda Brooks is a true gem........2007-05-12
In Hadda's extensive recording career, this was her first cohesive album.
Her beautiful voice is dark and rich.
"Dream" is a triumph. "Anytime, Anyplace, Anywhere"
written by Hadda, is a swinging hit.
Her version of "The Thrill is Gone" will haunt you.

Customer Reviews:
classic 80s pop.......2004-03-01
From one of the funniest movies ever to hit our screens in the late 80s comes the very hard to find but enjoyable soundtrack to LICENSE TO DRIVE.
Everything you expect from an 80s soundtrack is here -
BREAKFAST CLUB's rendition of "Drive My Car" starts the collection nicely and smoothly runs into Brenda K. Starr's excellent Jellybean produced song "Sweet Surrender"
Other gems on the album include music by Billy Ocean, Belinda Carlisle, New Edition, Slave Raider. There are two songs on this album that were not featured in the movie - "Time Starts Now" by the Boys Club & "One More Dance" by Johnathan Butler. Despite their absence from the movie they still add a nice touch to this 80s soundtrack!
The only downside to this album is there seems to be a lot of songs missing that were featured in the movie - most notably "Trouble" by Nia Peeples, "Mercedes Boy" by Pebbles, "Rush Hour" by Jane Weidlin and the classic "That's Life" by Frank Sinatra which, although not an 80s song, was featured in one of the most memorable scenes of an 80s comedy involving a drunk driver.
Nevertheless a superb soundtrack peppered with 80s pop hits

Ryuichi Sakamoto - Femme Fatale.......2003-05-07
Mr.Sakamoto has always been type-casted to write oriental-related movie scores. Well, this one is definitely not one of them, thank God. This film score is sensitive, sensuous and stunning. The movie itself has been under-rated by many. Seeing is believing; watch it and you'll find out how each note fits into each frame of Brian de Palma's new film.A Collector's Item without a doubt!
Sakamoto - Femme Fatale.......2003-05-06
This is a sensual score which the talented composer has written so exclusively for the film. I never find Bolero an attractive piece of music; except in '10'; where I'd found it quite funny as Dudley Moore and Bo Derek's flirting music.
Mr.Sakamoto has written a variation to Bolero on this soundtrack -titled Bolerish. He has turned the most boring tune on earth into a seductive & melodic piece. The most basic, yet the most stylish tune is LOST THEME- Piano Version. Somehow I wish there were more variation to this piece in the film. You don't have to watch the movie first to like this album. However, you would definitely want to own a copy of this rare CD if you happen to have enjoyed watching this extremely well composed film by Brian de Palma.
Ryuichi Sakamoto, Brian de Palma and Stunning Mrs.Rebecca Romijn-Stamos [femme fatale herself] make quite a team to STEAL your heart and soul.Quite breath taking.

MODERN NOIR / DEEPLY HITCHCOCKIAN.......2003-05-03
Masterful score to one of the best films of 2003. Very European flavor which appeals to a more cultured taste, (and not so much the mainstream.) The music is daring and passionate with shades of Bernard Herrmann's Vertigo and Marnie. THERE IS A BETTER AND LESS EXPENSIVE VERSION AVAILABLE FROM THE FRENCH AMAZON.COM. (The film was much more appreciated overseas.)

Customer Reviews:
Great CD !.......2005-12-11
I bought this CD because of the hot girl on the cover in 1988 and was very surprised !
This band had alot of talent and some pretty serious guitar. Femme Fatale kind of reminds me of Pat Benatar but is good in a whole different way.
There is not a song on this CD that I don't like but I really like Waiting for the big one and Rebel. If you can get this CD do it !
The only problem with this band is that this was the only CD they put out ! I would love to have seen another CD from them !
Lorraine Lewis rocked.......2005-11-14
It seems as if it was only yesterday. Lorraine Lewis hit the big time, and just as soon as she came, she was gone forever. Oh those 80's. Those crazy, wild, here today gone later today bands of the most decadent decade in American history. How I miss this days. At least I still have the music from that era. That's the only thing from keeping me from killing myself it seems. That and my Vans checkerboard shoes.
Femme Fatale had only one album, but at least they made the most of it. Here is a breakdown of the album that I bought back in 1988 and still listen to. I listened to it yesterday in fact delivering pizzas.
1. Waiting for the Big One - It's a hell of an opener. Lorraine tells you right away what she's all about and that she'll never settle for second best. She doesn't want just 'anyone'. No no buddy. Lorraine is waiting for the BIG ONE!
2. Falling in and Out of Love - The album keeps up the momentum with this tune. Of course it's more about sex than love, but hey, it was the 80's!
3. My Baby's Gun - Lorraine is only into her third song on the album and by now most teenage boys are going crazy. This is probably Lorraine at her sexiest.
4. Back in Your Arms Again - What I love about this song is the chorus. It's very catchy. To me this is the most memorable song on the album.
5. Rebel - The ballad. It was the 80's and a ballad was mandatory. This is a pretty good, run of the mill, average 80's ballad.
6. Fortune and Fame - This is what Lorraine should have had with her next album, unfortunately it was never made. This song makes you wonder 'what if'. If Femme Fatale did one or two more albums, I think they would have reached the same level of fame as RATT.
7. Touch and Go - Good beat on this one. This is basiclly a sexy bump and grind song. Great tune to drive to with your girl riding shotgun.
8. If - To answer your question, no. You were wondering if this was a cover song from the band Bread right? Not even close. This song has an awesome guitar solo and Looraine sounds fresh. I always thought that she sang this is the morning for some reason. She just sounds so wide awake and cheery.
9. Heat the Fire - Don't think Lorraine and Company are gonna let this album fizzle out toward the end. This song sets you up for the earthshattering closer. More sexual innuendoes to be found here on this song, but isn't that why we became Femme Fatale fans in the first place?
10. Cradle's Rockin' - YEAH!!! Killer ending tune to a GREAT album. If you think the 80's were just Vixen and Lita Ford, you are mistaken. Lorraine Lewis and Femme Fatale were right in there too. They didn't get the recognition they should have, but this album rocks and it will live on forever. Even after You and I are both dead.
Lorraine Lewis Forever!!!!
An 80's must have.......2005-11-04
If you are reading this, then you must have an interest in Femme Fatale. I bought the album back in 88 because of the awesome chick on the cover, Lorraine Lewis, who is the vocalist. Well, the music, in my opinion, was and still is just as good. Just good, hard rockin' 80s stuff, maybe kind of like Ratt, at times, if they had a female vocalist. Anyone remember Icon? Some of the tunes on this remind me of them. VH1 classic's Metal Mania is pretty good about showing Femme Fatale videos occasionally. If you appreciate Saraya and Headpins, you will probably like this as well. Another underpromoted and underappreciated band for which these reviews make possible to live on!
