If you think that musicals are only outsize, outlandish spectacles hatched on Broadway, The It Girl deftly shows that there are other options. This small show was created in 2001 at the York Theater--located in a church's basement, it's as close as you get to a barn in New York City. Loosely based on the 1927 Clara Bow vehicle It, the show gleefully runs through all the 1920s classic situations and characters: chases, flappers, mistaken identities, a boat cruise, a department-store heir, and fake French accents—it's all there. You can almost hear the ghost of P.G. Wodehouse, librettist for the Gershwins' Jazz Age classics, cheering. The It Girl breezes through thanks to its cast's game can-do energy and the strength of Paul McKibbins and B.T. McNicholl's perky tunes, which deploy nice melodic resources and make the most of a six-piece band. There's enough knowing pastiche here to keep the saccharine at bay, but the creative team also shows genuine resource and love for musicals as a genre. --Elisabeth Vincentelli

I took my daughter to see a production of this at a theatre in Hopewell where I sometime perform. We really enjoyed the show, and my daughter asked me to buy her a copy if the CD. I can't stop listening to this show. Great score...great orchestrations and great performances. I'm going to buy myself a copy too.

Maybe I'm biased, because I'm friends with the composer... but I was not when I first saw this musical, and I fell in love with it. A truly toe-tapping score, and adorably witty lyrics. It's a charming gem of a show, and I recommend it to any music lover.

The characters are fun, the story is marvelously scandalous (in a family oriented way), and the performances are top-drawer!

Like another reviewer, was lucky enough to see this show at the York Theatre in Manhattan. A wonderful musical score and clever lyrics made this show an absolute delight. A must-have CD.

This show has a STELLAR cast! The cast is relatively small, only consisting of three men and four women. The music is original and REALLY clever (and based in the 1920s...GREAT TIME)! I listen to this cast album MORE than any other (and I have A LOT of cast albums)! Some of the MOST appealing tracks are "A Perfect Plan," "Coney Island" and "Step Into Their Shoes"! This would be A GREAT show for small theatres or small companies of actors! You'll be glad you bought this cast album after you take the time to listen to it all the way through at least once. You'll find a few songs you like and listen to those OVER and OVER. Two weeks later you'll find a few more songs you like and do the same! ... This is an A+ show!

My family loved this show. Our eight year old son kept singing the songs and humming the tunes. He even wanted to listen to it at bedtime. Very catchy lyrics with tunes that keep your feet tapping. The show is full of songs that continually creep into your mind during the day. I often found myself humming a tune or two over and over. Highly recommend.

The performance in Czech is necessary to fully appreciate charm of songs and rhyme schemes, even if you don't know Czech. Good recording of a very decent (but not the very best) Czech children's chorus. To compound lack of libretto, the track titles for operetta are completely useless. Fortunately the pronounciation is very clear. The folk songs are a nice compliment to the opera and emphasize Czech children's connection.

It's wonderful to be able to hear a recording of this piece, and this one is quite well done. I only wish that the text/translation were to appear in the CD booklet. You may find it very frustrating not to know what is being sung. I know I do.

This short (less than 25 minutes) children's opera was composed in 1938 by Krasa and was performed more than 50 times in the tragic circumstances in Terezin. As expected from a children's opera, the music is very simple, appealing and vivid. This performance is the first substantial performance and the music is delivered very convincingly. If you want to sample the music which was composed or performed in Terezin you shouldn't hesitate in srarting right here.

Very nice reissue of the band's 1986 debut lp on CD.The Dwarfs were,in fact one of my favorite metal bands of the '80's.Even had the thrill of catching them play live once.They put on just SUCH a fun show.The boys from up north(that's Canada,of course) showcase their brand of somewhat theatric 'pop metal'.As I recall,the guys in the band sort of always reminded me of those cool kids that you personally knew from high school.With cuts like "Stand Tall(Stick To Your Guns)","Through Animal Eyes","Keep The Spirit Alive" and "Do Or Die",I have to say that 'Stand Tall' is one of those CD's that goes by pretty quickly.It's THAT good.Should appeal to fans of Kix,Quiet Riot,Mama's Boy's and Princess Pang(anyone remember them?).

I was 12 when this was originally released. It was worth risking certain death to stay up late, watch Headbanger's Ball, and PRAY they would play the video to "Keep the Spirit Alive." I could even deal with Adam Curry as long as I got to see Russ Graham act a fool. The image of "Geddy Lee's hyper little brother" is burned into my brain! This was one of the last great silly hair bands before Seattle changed the norm (thank you!). It's just the right mix of catchy rock riffs (admit it, you love it) and memorable lyrics. They are still around, so check them out live if you get the chance! Definitely recommended for anyone who remembers the 80's and wanted to strangle themselves before listening to yet another Top 40 song.

I'm so glad Stand Tall has finally been reissued in CD. I had the cassette once upon a time and I've really missed this album. The songs are great! Just the right blend of hard rock and lighthearted lyrics. This group was about fun music (you should have seen their videos). Take my advice, this CD is worth getting.

This album, STAND TALL, was originally released by the band after they left the ATCO record label. This album has been since officially re-released by the band in a limited edition of 1000 copies pressed up with the addition of the DIG DOWN DEEP album thus making a 2 albums on 1 CD now available for the first time ever. Please note that these are in short supply and you should act now.

The official web site at www.eddieandthetide.com has more information regarding this release as well as the I DO IT FOR YOU re-release as well as song samples.

As for the music on this CD, it is very simple yet complex, straight ahead rock and roll. Some would call it "power pop". I'd call it real music made by real people. From Stand Tall to Nothing Like Love to the rest of the album. You can't go wrong.

          With a name like 'The Poodles', these guys had better rock. And they do!!! If your longing for the days when hair metal ruled the airwaves and think that the current trend in American radio sucks then you must check these guys out. From start to finish they transport you back to a time when rock and roll was all about a good time and not hating your life or mother, yet, they are fresh in their approach. American radio needs bands like this to reinvigorate itself, but you'll never hear them because the RIAA would never admit that a band nowadays could and should put out an album that is good from start to finish instead of screwing us over with albums that have 1 or 2 good songs at best. European metal has America by the rock n roll balls right now, with bands such as Masterplan, Starbreaker, Brother Firetribe, and THE POODLES.

          Some great pop/glam metal. Ignore the name and enjoy the music which will stick in your head and have you singing along. This is not typically a style I like, but for some reason it still won me over. It's good for when I am in the mood for something "lighter".
