About the Artist
Hailing from the ever-grey skies of Eugene Oregon comes YOB, a band destined to make their mark in the DOOM metal scene worldwide. In 1996, founding member Mike Scheidt started creating and destroying ideas that would become the foundation for one of DOOM metals most shining hopefuls; YOB. The first three song self-titled demo was submitted to the underground authority, STONERROCK.com in 1999, sending shockwaves through the scene worldwide. This demo was a bold statement of intent: uncompromising HEAVY DOOM METAL. Equal parts SLEEP, Burning Witch, Neurosis, High On Fire and Electric Wizard, YOB recorded its first full-length record for 12th Records in Spokane, WA entitled "Elaborations Of Carbon". This offering received rave reviews from magazines and fans worldwide, securing YOB's place as one of the best DOOM metal bands in the scene today. Playing countless shows since their formation, YOB is just as at home playing to hardcore punk and extreme metal fans as they are in front of stoner/doom metal audiences. Having shared the stage with diverse bands such as Isis, Soilent Green, Electric Wizard, Botch, Darkest Hour, The Locust, Orange Goblin, Alabama Thunderpussy, High On Fire, Will Haven, Fireball Ministry, Acid King, Bongzilla, Unida, and many more, it is clear to those who have witnessed YOB live that they easily carve their place into any line-up they appear with. YOB is prepared to release their new record "The Illusion Of Motion" with the pioneers of all that is heavy, Metal Blade Records. Slated for an October 19th release, "The Illusion Of Motion" will permanently secure YOB as one of the heaviest, most original DOOM metal bands of any era past or present.

5 out of 5 stars OH YEAH!!.......2005-11-03

I heard the song "Illusion of Motion" on a local metal radio station and couldn't believe what I was hearing!! I picked up this album and the newest release THE UNREAL NEVER LIVED. I gotta tell you, this is THE SLOWEST doom metal I have ever heard, save for Electric Wizard. Picture Sabbath being slowed WAY DOWN to 16rpm and have Geddy Lee sing over it, and that's a basic over-view of what YOB is. Man, I totally recommend this album!!

5 out of 5 stars A New Level Of Doom!.......2005-10-20

This is Doom that will take you on a most awesome journey through your mind... and no i don't do drugs! I'm a huge Doom fan, the likes of Electric Wizard, SOundgarden, High On Fire, The Hidden Hand and of course YOB. These guys are pure Heavy SPACETRIP DOOM!!! BUY THIS ALBUM!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant follow up to a brilliant debut.......2005-04-26

An amazing band to say the least. This gifted threesome has put out one of the most original sonic offerings in the expiri-metal world. Their sound is like nothing ever produced before: drunk on "phaser" pedals (circa 1973) and playing knee-bendingly heavy un-distorted riffs that slowly build to demolishing crecsendos, which --in the blink of an eye-- switch to nuclear-level distortion and sub-bass death roars. However, the use of death roars only once in a-long-while makes the music sound so powerful it retains the ability to make even scrawny unpopular white people like us flex a muscle (do you mean to say you're not scrawny? Why, I can see your arms right there... oh my, their big... and smooth). Described accurately by my local independant record store clerk as "Pink Floyd meets The Melvins at a Cannibal Corpse show". Incredible progressive heaviness that no self-respecting music listener should be without.

Purchase; place in car cd player; turn to 120 decibels; drive around and watch windows break...

5 out of 5 stars DOOM METAL AT ITS FINEST.......2005-03-03

This band is amazing. If your into slow grinding epic music, this is for you. There are only 4 songs on this album but trust me it will be worth your 20 bucks.

4 out of 5 stars A Great Doom Metal Band.......2005-02-26

When I heard about Yob being signed to metal blade I thought great! a doom metal act that'll get exposure. Before Yob I don't think Metal Blade had a doom metal band since Trouble. But I did wonder, what kind of doom metal band would Metal Blade sign? Whoa! Musically I would say they have a stoner/doom feel to them, but they don't have a huge drug user image about them. The music is true doom, slow and heavy, with very long songs and very few songs. If you like doom metal, you will like it. If you are just a true metalhead, you should still give them a listen.

5 out of 5 stars As fun to listen to as the movie is to watch........2003-08-06

This is a rich collection of music ranging from classical motifs to modern pop with a dash of what could be called theme park music. The vocal tracks are all in Japanese and are all great pieces in my opinion.
The tracks are put together in an odd way in that almost half of the tracks seem to be divided into two songs each. They start off as one thing and switch to something else after a few seconds pause in the middle of the track. The result is you end up with more music pieces as these breaks only occur in the non-vocal tracks.
Another thing to note is that a lot of the music pieces revisit the first track in feel. This helps hold the overall album together as one piece with many parts as opposed to just a collection that feels thrown together.
The overall collection is very easy to listen to and ranges from fun and light to moving and emotionally charged.
I don't have the track listings in front of me but I am listening to it as I write this.
Of note (in my opinion) are the following tracks:

#1 is a moving piece in the classical genre with both fast and slow movements.
#2 is a great vocal song more in the pop genre with a engaging chorus.
#6 and #11 are what I would call a theme park tunes - they are short and fun.
#8 is a revisit to #1 but breaks away into something soft and light.
#10 is an electric pop vocal mix.
#19 is the closing theme to the movie and another great vocal track.
