A wonderful album. I have several copies of Handel's Messiah, but the performance of the Hallelujah Chorus by Robert Shaw's singers is exceptional, outstanding. I was inspired to have my young son listen to this album: Verdi's "Dies Irae", Orff's "O Fortuna", and Handel's "Hallelujah Chorus".

Notice that there are 3 versions of "Dies Irae" on this album. It's nice to hear others. I am not normally a fan of Requiems. I will say that I do like Bach's Mass in B Minor and the Kyrie Eleison excerpted here is beautiful.

This CD could be the cornerstone of your choral music library! Wonderful performances of all of the essential choral pieces give a wonderful introduction to choral music for someone new to it, and also give a nice sampler of the best pieces for someone already familiar with the music. Listening to each excerpt may inspire you to purchase the entire work!

As you would expect of performances by Robert Shaw's groups, these performances are really extraordinary and show the best of American choral singing.

The three stars I have given this album are not for the performances, which are all tremendous and deserve five stars or more, but for the idea of releasing this sort of compilation. Every single one of these selections is part of a larger Shaw-recorded work already released by Telarc, and you are far better off seeking the complete recordings that all these pieces are from, than just buying a mere "sampler". (Shaw, however, never did get around to recording the complete " L' Enfance du Christ".) Of course, that can be very expensive for some people, and if one cannot afford all those recordings, I suppose this is the next best thing. One can't shake off the feeling, however, that because Shaw is no longer with us, Telarc is desperately trying to give the impression that "new" Shaw recordings are constantly being released by them, when the truth is that nearly all the new ones are mere recyclings. (The last complete Robert Shaw album released by Telarc was Dvorak's "Stabat Mater", a CD well worth buying.)

Our church choir sang a few of these songs which I loved, so I decided to order it. It is a very sweet, gentle, inspiring collection of music. Many times when you get a CD, you are fortunate to find 2-4 on there that you really like enough to play regularly. But on this one, every song is wonderful. This music is so spiritually uplifting and peaceful that you will want to play it regularly. Some if may bring some tears it is so beautiful. John Rutter has a way with this type of music. You will probably want to be giving some of these cd's away to those you love.

I had this CD on while in labor with my last child. We had a wonderful homebirth and what better then to have the spirit in our home with this music as we welcomed a brand new baby. It helped me relax and helped the birth be peaceful, calm, and spiritual.

I love this CD. My family and I listened to it over and over and over again, during the last few weeks of my mother's life. It has been a comfort to me in time of sorrow. Now it brings tears every time I listen to it. This music is like loving arms around me. It touches my soul. I've given so many away, I should have bought a case of them.

I bought this CD because I had heard "My Shepherd Will Supply My Need" once and loved it. But it's just one of the many beautiful songs on this CD. I'm at a loss to describe what joy this music brings to me each time I listen to it. I carry it from house to car and back again so I can enjoy it wherever I am. I've given away several "Consider the Lilies" CD's to friends and relatives, something I've never done before. Anyone who is facing a serious challenge in life will be uplifted and comforted by this ethereal music.

Rather disappointed with this album, as it came highly recommended. What we have here is a very generic power metal offering. The band goes for a heavier vibe rather than the overly-pretty sound of many Euro-metal bands. Still, this doesn't really distinguish them from alot of what's out there- it just demonstrates that these guys listened to Accept as well as Helloween. The songs are interchangeable, all moving at a similar pace and featuring instantly forgettable lyrics. The one exception is the brilliant 'A Soldier's Tale', which opens with a great guitar flurry and rips along- it's the only track that sounds as though the band is really putting some heart into the song. Otherwise, just put Cryonic Temple on ice with all those other unoriginal LMP bands

This is Christian Metal - sorry all you Black Metal lovers. I had to deal with this fact as I read the lyrics of the first songs - which is called "The King has Returned" and goes on to talk about contemporary issues, anarchist, fascists, terrorists etc. Other songs, such as Beastslayer - follow along the same path.
However you wont find the name of Christ being called out - it is all in the symbolism of: The King, Faith, Light & Hell - all which are Christian based.
So, yes - you can make up your own belief of what they are saying - to me, the meaning of the songs is just very clear.
And the most important fact - the Band ROCKS!
I have two reviews I can write - One for the novice in Power Metal, and another one for the Power Metal Fan.

For the Novice: This band sounds very similar to Judas Priest on its good days (80's era - Painkiller), specially the vocals. The drumming is strictly Power Metal - featuring double bass lines and music similar to Hammerfall, clear & clean. The solos fall on the line of Iron Maiden - with simple but nice melodies and interlaced solos.

For the Power Metal Fan - this band offers a mix you would get when you mix good stuff from Grave Digger with good stuff from Running Wild. The sound is a blend between Grave Digger and Running Wild. But the reason why I associate this band with Running Wild is more because they are sticking to the theme of "The King's Return" and things like that, through out the whole album - which is cool. The vocals yes, they are hard to compare - but at many times it is almost the identical sound of that Scorpions (yes that Hair Band from the 80s) vocalist - called Klaus Maine.

They blend 80's and 90's style of power metal and mixed it with the modern hype and believe me, sounds very good!! Great keyboards arrengements makes this album a perfect atmosphere for the lover of metal. The guitar riffs and soloing is tight with a unique and original style. Give this record a spin, you won't regret it!!!

see, this is what you don't hear enough of anymore. These songs are drawn out about a minute longer than they normally would be because the band KNOWS HOW TO WRITE ORIGINAL SOLOS. Too many of these new power metal bands just write monotonic bass lines and change it a bit, then call that their "solo." Where that is plenty good to have, its not good to drown entire albums with it. (For example, Moonlight Agony does a great job creating a proper balance of the 2.) Cryonic Temple takes back to 80's and early 90's metal. The music isn't anything groundbreaking; they took an older form of power metal and ...basically went in a time warp, wrote an album, then came forward 12 years and released it. The solos are modern and original, the keyboards never drown out the music but at the same time will please fans of atmospheric music. The vocals are far from a Timo Kotipelto; they're much more like the harsher "motorcycle metal" from the Judas Priest and Saxon era. Expect to hear lyrics in the vein of Manowar here. This is particularly evident in anthems like Eternal Flame of Metal.

Anyone who enjoys what power metal used to be NEEDS to get this album. Anyone who enjoys any kind of metal shy of doom metal and black metal SHOULD get this album. The symbolism is broad and anyone can enjoy the lyrics. Even death metal fans will find something they like on this album: Shark Attack.

wish I had time to say more about this album. Hopefully, it'll act as a turning point in metal and inspire more bands to play power metal the way it used to be. Don't get me wrong - I love Kamelot, Stratovarius, Shaman, Dragonland, etc.

hopefully I helped everyone realize that the "eternal flame of [true power] metal" isn't gonna go anywhere as long as bands like Cryonic Temple keep this good work up.

5 out of 5 stars good mix of old and new.......2005-08-14

If you can sucessfully mix in old school metal with new power european metal and make your own sound at the same time, I just might like you. And I like the mix here. Lots of Maiden guitar style mixed with some Sonata Artica sounds. I'm not sure what to make of the name,a little amused and a littled creeped out. Maybe that is the goal. Anyways, this is another quality release out of europe which is sad in a ways. With the airwaves here in the states full of muddy guitar and gutteral vocals, I long for a day that I can hear really quality metal played by masters on my local station. Such as Cryonic temple plays. Fists up.

    If I was stuck on an deserted island with only one CD to choose from, this would be it. When I was going through chemotherapy for Hodgkin's Lymphoma, this collection (a cassette at the time) kept my spirits up and aided in my healing. Listen to these excerpts and taste and see how truly good this glorious music is.

            In her lifetime of 96 years, American contralto Marian Anderson was celebrated perhaps more as a crusader for the victims of a colour prejudice in their home country than as a gifted and well-trained singer. The emphasis was probably misplaced. When interviewed in her old age she said, "I was never a fighter". She was certainly a superb singer, as this not-to-be-missed Naxos bargain allows C21st listeners to hear.

            It comprises a varied selection of items from her repertoire recorded between 1924 and 1944. The two earliest items do not show her at her best. Slow moving Negro spirituals, they cruelly expose the presence of some ugly vowel and consonant sounds at this stage of her career. Thereafter, however, and into the electric recording era, diction and tone are exemplary. Only six of the items were recorded in the USA, mostly in poor sound quality. The 1944 item, an aria from Massenet's "Le Cid", provides a glimpse into Marian Anderson's potential as an opera singer, something she was unable to realize in the USA until the very end of her career.

            Of course, the item that became this singer's "signature tune" is here. Pruned of some of its music, and of the tenor counterpoint provided in its second half by Samson, the extract from "Samson et Dalila" is sung in English as "Softly awakes my heart". Once heard, this performance will gently but firmly insinuate intself into your consciousness, your memory and your soul and live with you forever.
