4 out of 5 stars The introduction to Immortal.......2001-10-29

This is Immortal's first album. This album is ok. It is raw and fast like the 3 albums they released after this that followed the same style. Then with their 5th and 6th releases they changed their style to a cleaner approach, rather than being just plain raw black metal. This being their first album, Immortal is not up to speed as they would be on their second release "Pure Holocaust" This album introduced what Immortal would be like with their next 3 releases, but does not show what they are truly capable of. If you are a fan of any of the first 4 Immortal albums (this being the first) I would recomend this album to you. If you are a fan of Immortal's newer album's, "At the Heart of Winter" and "Damned in Black" im not sure that you would get as much out of this album. If you are interested in Immortal's old rawer style I would recomend "Battles in the North" or "Blizzard Beasts" and then work your way back. Since I have been a fan of Immortal for awhile I was able to give this album a rating of 4 stars because I can listen to it and enjoy it, but their are better Immortal albums and also this was their debut so they were not as skilled as they are now or have gotten later in their reign of destruction. On the plus side Erik, one of the greatest drummers in Black Metal, is on this album which killed himself after "Pure Holocaust."
