Britny Fox has a sound all their own. I really liked this CD.

4 out of 5 stars Just call it ROCK.......2006-08-04

There is a good reason for the CINDERELLA reference to the band's sound...
The guitarist was a founding member of Cinderella, but before the band was signed, they had to disown Mr Mike. Jeff LaBar was a friend of studio exec, and a fitting replacement. No major loss or gain either way.
Guitarist Mike simply reformed another band; banged out his steady, consistent, balls-on hard rocking style; not to mention finding a comparable singer to Mr Kiefer...
The result is the music world did not suffer. We, the fans, got two fantastic rocking outfits producing music during the only period where good, consistent music was released.
Grunge may have killed AOR radioplay, but the majority of these bands continued on (and several still do).
Britny Fox, hair band or otherwise, still belted out fantastic music.

4 out of 5 stars Britney Fox - 'The Best Of .....' (Sony).......2006-01-03

I don't care WHAT anyone says,Britny Fox IS in fact like a Cinderella wanna be.That's isn't necessarily a bad thing, for I saw the band twice back in the day and always wanted to check them out again. This 'Best Of' compilation looks to be pulled from their first two albums, that were good '80's metal.Tunes I liked the best were "Girlschool"(love the old Mtv video),"Long Way To Love"(reminds me SO much of Aerosmith),"In Motion",a cover of Slade's "Gudbye T' Jane" and "Standing In The Shadows".A couple of live tunes were tagged on to lure both old and new fans,I'm sure.A should-have.

4 out of 5 stars Pretty Good Best Of.......2006-01-03

Britny Fox were a hair band that had it all: an excellent guitarist, raspy voiced singer, and a hit song in Girlschool. This collection only spans their first two album with orignal singer, "Dizzy" Dean Davidson. Their first album is considered a hair metal classic. The songs "Girlschool", "Long Way To Love", and "Save The Weak" all rock hard. This collection also include their two cover songs "Gudbye T'Jane" by Slade, and "Hair of the Dog" by Nazareth, both of which are excellent. This disc is also enhanced so if you pop it into you computer you can see a live video of "Long Way To Love" and the music video for "Girlschool". Not bad for $10.

1 out of 5 stars Their music didn't age well.......2005-01-13

I was a fan of Britny Fox back in their early years (when Dizzy Dean was the vocalist), but listening to this stuff now-almost 20 years later-gives me a headache. These guys were nothing more than the poor man's Cinderella - except that Cinderella had some really cool songs that I can STILL listen to. Sorry, but this collection is for the die-hard Britny Fox fans only.

5 out of 5 stars Strong Debut.......2007-07-19

Britny Fox's Debut in 1988 was a strong one with three single/video releases with "Girl School", "Long Way To Love" & "Save The Weak". The rest of the album is just as strong with such tracks as "Kick 'N' Fight", "Fun In Texas" & "Rock Revolution". They also do a good cover job with "Gudbuy T' Jane" which is an old "Slade" song. I remember going and seeing these guy's open up for "Poison" when this album first came out. They did one more album with original vocalist "Dizzy Dean Davidson" after this called "Boys In Heat" which in my opinion was not as strong as this one. "Davidson" left the band after "Boys In Heat" to pursue other things such as a band called "Blackeye Susan" which really didn't pan out. Britny Fox would carry on though without Davidson with vocalist "Tommy Paris" for 1991's "Bite Down Hard" which saw them get back to the same formula as their debut although it didn't do as well. It's sad, most bands like Fox were nothing but a flash in the pan that came and went like a flash of lightning, but in the very short time they were around, they left behind some pretty good music. For myself, 1988 and being 21 years old at the time..ahhh those were the day's.

5 out of 5 stars Good Second Release.......2007-03-24

I only own three BRIYNY FOX CDs and I have to say that I enjoy all three. BRITNY FOX might be the only band in my collection where I own the first three releases and enjoy every track on each disc. This disc you can see a little more maturity in the songwriting and the music still rocks and is also catchy. This release compliments the first one real well. I enjoy this band a lot and I had tickets to see them the week Dean Davidson left the band. Too bad!

4 out of 5 stars Not bad for their sophmore effort.......2006-12-13

A good solid product. I would say that their debut along with 'Bite Down Hard' are a notch or two above this one, however.

4 out of 5 stars THe Best of late 80's Rock Metal.......2005-10-08

The band more than met the task of following up their successful debut with this offering. The vocal style is less distracting and not as forced, blending in with the instruments better. The songwriting is a mix of all that is good in rock - a blend of KISS, AC/DC, and Aerosmith. Guitar fans will find plenty of tasteful chops to steal and the solid drumbeats and bass lines are slammin'. It is what it is - rock music was not intended to be serious, just an expression of the youth of the time period in which it was made. Great fun to listen to if you just want rock & roll without the political messages or anguish over being a geek in a Seattle high school.

3 out of 5 stars Boys are good but not so hot !.......2005-01-30

This is my first taste of Britny Fox and I have given the album a good listen coming to the conclusion that if AC/DC and Warrant had a love child it would be called Britny Fox. Needless to say both AC/DC and Warrant are great bands in their own right just make sure that you are ready for the mixture of the two as for me it didn't set off the "MEGA" album chemistry but this mid paced melodic rock effort has solid song construction and really cool lead breaks which on some songs does help the arrangements.
Overall a good buy if you especially like the above mentioned bands.

2 out of 5 stars A Major Disappointment.......2006-12-13

Springhead Motorshark (SM) is not going to be the typical riff-ready, groove oriented hard rock cd that the group has been known to make. I recognize that it was more than 10 years since the release of the classic, Bite Down Hard cd, but SM failed to live up to the group's standard for creating high energy, riff oriented music. The opening track, 'Pain' is the only title worth listening to. This album reminds me of another group who thought they would "grow" and experiment with their music....this was a record called 'Shadow Life' by a band called Dokken. Uninspired, inconsistent, and simply quite painful to listen to. If you want a gem of a record, get 'Bite Down Hard' by Britny Fox. There is not a throw away on that record! I'm sorry but when I listen to Britny Fox, it isn't to be educated or to hear "maturity." Rather, Britny's music is something that gets a person fired up; something to jam to in the car or on the iPod at the gym. C'mon boys, you're not R.E.M.! I look forward to a return to the hard rock roots on your next release!!!

4 out of 5 stars A Very Cool, Strange, Unique, Creative, Head-Scratcher.......2005-08-22

Obviously, this latest effort from BF is either "LOVE IT or HATE IT". I for one loved it. It's a very-well produced album, and everything on it sounds cool. It's been said that you have to hear it a couple of times before you get into it, but that's not really true. As long as you go into it open - minded, you will see right off that it is actually surprisingly creative. The sound of BF has definitely matured, with stunning harmonizing, as well as their expansion of the intruments they use. A piano and keyboard can be found in "L.A.", a track I dare say is beautiful. The title track is an instrumental, and in the first half you hear a guitar solo, then an early 70's Stevie Wonder - type keyboard playing. The last half contains audio from the original Texas Chainsaw Massacre 1 & 2. Don't ask me what it means. In fact, don't ask me what any of the words in SM mean. The words are more or less hodge - podge all throughout, but that may be just one more thing that makes SM a unique experience. Keyboards can be found in many of the songs, especially in "T.L.U.C.(For You)." I commend BF for daring to use keyboards in SM. I've never understood why rock bands ever dropped them in the first place. I feel they're the greatest thing to happen to rock music since the electric guitar. Van Halen's most commercially successful years were when Eddie played more on the keyboard than guitar!
"Pain," the opening track, is an in-your-face song that sounds like it belongs in the soundtrack for a horror video game, as well as "Freaktown".
"Coup D'etat," is a guitar solo that goes right into "Far Enough," the album's best track. The verse, interestingly, is two separate verses from the New Testament. The chorus is not. . . I'm still trying to understand their connection. The song simply rocks, and it is cool to hear how they took sacred words written centuries ago, and applied them to their song. Beautiful, heavy track.
"Sri Lanka," the closing track, is another strange-but-cool song, with its Middle East sound. The song is 9 minutes long, but fades into a strange worship-type thing halfway through. Weird. Cool, but weird.
The biggest surprise on SM has got to be "Is it Real?" It's an acoustic sort of folk, sing-along song that will ring on in your head all day, long after you've turned it off.
The only disappointment I have with SM is the profanity (thankfully brief) found in "Pain," "Sri Lanka," and the title track. Why does anyone think they must use profanity to get a point across? In SM, it's just a blemish against what would've otherwise been a near-perfect album.
In comparison to the three previous BF albums, SM is easily the best, for the very fact that the boys have matured musically, in leaps and bounds, at that.
Also included on SM are three bonus CD-R videos from their previous "Long Way to LIVE!" CD. Very trippy, very cool.
In closing, I commend BF for doing SM the way they wanted, and did not submit to any trends. If only all the other comeback hairbands had followed suit, who knows how cool our world of music would sound today.

5 out of 5 stars ONE OF THE BEST ROCK RELEASES OF 2003!.......2004-11-23

Yes, I said it. I loved Britny Fox's 2nd CD. Not as much their first and third cds. This one ranks up there as possibly their best. The sound has not changed as much as some of these reviews make it out to be (both from people who love it and hate it), as I felt very comfortable upon the first listen, no surprises..yes some musical growth...but a familiar overall sound. I hope these guys stick together to make more music, because they really have it down.

5 out of 5 stars Britny Fox Rocks!.......2004-08-21

I have been a Britny Fox fan for years. When I found out they had a new CD out I immediately bought it. After all if you like bands like them you have to support them to make sure they keep recording new material. The sound goes from pure metal to a more 70's classic rock sound. A more refined and matured sound which is understandable considering all the years which have passed. The CD is good the first time you hear it, but once you listen to it for the 3rd or 4th time and you "get it", it really grows on you and it goes from good to "kick @ss". It has become one of my favorites and I have yet to tire of it.

1 out of 5 stars What the hell happened to them?!.......2003-12-27

I try to find the good in every release, but with this one, it's not possible. The opening track "Pain" sure does inflict it. The meat of the track is one repetitive riff, even through the chorus. Tommy Paris is trying a new vocal style here, as it is faded and echoing. I thought that the first song was just a fluke until I heard the next, "Freaktown." It's really more of the same, one repetitive lick and uninspiring vocals. It does however have a melodic chorus. The first ballad on the CD is "L.A." I expected more emotion from this piano heavy tune, but it falls flat. As the power section comes in, Paris' vocals seem to get muffled and drowned out by the instruments. The other ballad is "Lonely Ones." This one is sung in a falsetto voice that Paris can't hold. The song starts to improve as the power section comes in. You won't forget the chorus to the acoustic track "Is it Real." It's repeated thirteen times in four minutes. To top that off, it only has two verses. Would you believe the only songs that sound anything like Britny Fox's older material is "Springhead Motorshark" and "Coup D'Etat?" Guess what? They're both instrumentals. If they added some spirited vocals they'd be even better.

Bottom Line:
What the hell happened to their energy?! This CD is void of any. Let's face it, Britny Fox weren't exactly part of the upper echelon, but they were better than this. It sounds like there was absolutely no effort put into this. The vocals are weak and the guitar work is not that appealing. You can't even say that it's because they don't have "it" anymore. If you've listened to their last release, Long Way to Live, you'd know that they're still capable of high-energy vocals and over the top guitar work. What happened here? There was either no money, or they just weren't into doing it. At least the CD-ROM section of the disc has three video performances from the live CD that are vintage Britny Fox.

Only one other review? Come on people! This album rocks...unfortunately it got lost in the shuffle. Pick up this record and the two ARCADE albums and you will be transported back in time.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT album..........2006-01-18

There isn't an ounce of filler here. "Six Guns Loaded", "Louder", "Look My Way"... All classics. The band sounds focused & like they're enjoying every last second of making this record. Only one thing could have been better with this re-issue... Where is the non cd track "Turn On"? That together with the "Louder" video would have made this sell through the roof. Don't blame the band, they had nothing to do with the re-issue.

Would love a new release from these guys, but don't know if that's in the cards as Billy Childs is now in "Childs/Krash" and Johnny Dee is in the INCREDIBLE "Powervibe"

well i have the first two b f cd's & dizzy dean just didnt have the throat my ears were dying to hear. along came tommy paris what a screamer! he completly blows away dizzy dean....my favorite track is ....louder... what a great rock n roll song & the new singer just kicks ass, im surprised this cd didnt set the band on fire by the time it did come out it was too late for britny fox. the worst part of britny fox was the hair. michael kelly smith was that a wig or what? the drummer was never to impressive great guitar work & riffs. pounding bass lines.....guitar solos were screaching, some of the best guitar work ive heard. the cd high point the arrival of a new singer.

This cd did not come with high expectations. After Dizzy Dean Davidson left the band, I was not sure I was gonna like this cd with singer Tommy Paris. Let me say that this is one the best metal cds I own! BRITNY FOX did not disappoint! I like the first two cds a lot but this one is really good. This cd should have been more popular than it was. If you like your hard rock, definitely pick up this disc.

5 out of 5 stars Great CD.......2002-12-12

This is a truly excellent cd. I normally dont like live cd's that much, but the playing and sound quality on this one are absolutley superb. The energy that comes across in the band's performance is incredible. I will for sure see these guys if they come to my area!

This is an awesome cd! I know these guys personally and I couldnt be more proud of them. They kick ass and have a totally different sound then anyone else today. This album is one of pure rock. I totally recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Better Than You Think.......2002-04-26

Britny Fox has long been known as one of the many "hair bands" of the 1980's metal scene. But unlike a lot of the other "hair bands," which is a phrase I absolutely hate, Britny Fox never had a top smashing ballad or an inescapable tune that consumed you no matter where you turned. Britny Fox was not a monstrous hair band, but this album makes me wonder just why not.
Sadly, my years on this Earth are too few to really recall the wonder that was the 80's as well as I'd like to. But this album really does rock like no band today can. I like music that's a tad old for my age, but I like music that rocks appropriately and doesn't treat the fans like we're stupid. I like rock and roll that makes me feel good about me and forget all the down sounding moans of the grunge genre. I am, as Manowar would say, a brother of true Metal and this album is true Metal if you ask me.

From the first track "Six Guns Loaded," the blazing sounds of extremely powerful vocals and a blazing guitar really consumes you and fills you with energy. At no point in the album does that energy leave you and all the great Britny Fox classics like Girlschool, Long way to Love, Dream On, and Lonely Too Long are all on there and I assure you that if you thought the studio version of these songs were head banging tunes, you have to hear how they sound live because it's twice as powerful and twice as good.

Sure, Britny Fox may not be a household name and maybe they never were as big as Poison or Bon Jovi, but they rock just as hard and just as long and I, the owner of a Heavy Metal website, am proud to promote Britny Fox as one of my favorite bands and this as one of my favorite albums. If you like rock, metal, or are just looking to sample some good music, this is the one for you.

5 out of 5 stars A FANTASTIC LIVE ALBUM!!.......2002-04-16

Not only is this a great live album, but it is just a terrific album in general. These guys sound wonderful live! It is a great showcase for their talent. Some of the guitar playing is truly incredible. No one should be without this truly great album.

5 out of 5 stars Long way to live.......2001-05-10

There is really no way to describe this cd. This is the best one yet. And hopefully not the last. These guys are all very good friends of mine and I've known them for a long time and I hope they do well.

5 out of 5 stars One of the better debuts in hard rock.......2007-03-24

The songs are simple and the music is catchy. I liked BRITNY FOX from the first time I saw the "Long Way to Love" video. That song to this day remains my favorite by the band. Dean Davidson has a voice you will always recognize and I thought this band had a lot of potential. Too bad their careers were short lived. Anyway, no filler here. The songs are cool and you will definitely want to turn the volime up once you put the disc into your player.

5 out of 5 stars Underrated 80's metal gem from an overlooked band.......2005-06-09

80's metal, now derogatorily called hair metal-gotta love it, as I grew up on it. One group that didn't do as well as Cinderella, Motley Crue, or Warrant, was Britny Fox. A pity, as their metal quotient would've set caused airport metal detectors to explode, whereas the likes of Europe, Warrant, or Winger would've given them mere Aspirin headaches. A hard-edged guitar and lead singer Dizzy Davidson's shrieker pipes a la Cinderella's Tom Kiefer showed they had teeth.

Two singles lead off their debut album (1988). The first is the rocking and rowdy "Girlschool," which begins with the background buzz of girls chatting at school before a school bell and piercing scream cuts through. Cue the music, the powerfully pounding skins of Johnny Dee, superlative guitars of Michael Kelly Smith, and Davidson's throaty vocals singing about rebellious high school girls breaking rules. The video was a Catholic school with uniforms, if I recall correctly, where even the teacher ends up jamming at the end. The best song here without a doubt. "Long Way To Love" has Vinnie Vincent-ish guitars and a sound belonging to Lick It Up era KISS. Their only charting single peaked... where? Hint, it has three digits. Humiliating, as I would've given it at least Top 20 status.

The frustration of teen alienation is shown in the thundering "Kick `N' Fight" whereas "Fun In Texas" is just about that. "Save The Weak" is a power ballad, and Davidson's non-shrieker vocals, when accompanied with the harmonies of the others, makes them sound somewhat like KISS.

Though Tipper Gore and the PMRC were three years behind, the anthemic "Rock Revolution" heralded by some pounding drums at the beginning, addresses the issues of people who had problems with rock and roll. "They say we're loud and violent for this joke system/but yet they air violent shows about death, r-pe, and fighting too." Yeah, what is up with that? One of the better songs here. Standing up for rock and roll-aww yeah! Yet they still optimistically think America is a fun and rocking place in "In America," which like "Hold On" gives AC-DC more than a run for their money.

Britny Fox then does the Quiet Riot thing-covering a Slade song. Their pick is "Gudbuy T'Jane" from 1973. I haven't heard the original, but BF sure have the energy going in this song. Many of the songs tend to sound alike, but the consistent strong sound of the band's energy more than make up for that. An underrated gem from the late 80's, whose energy has made me feel nostalgic and younger still.

4 out of 5 stars Britny Fox, (Girlschool)! Need I say more!.......2005-02-15

This album is great. If you want that 80's Cinderella/sleaze type sound then this is the cd. Girlschool kicks off the album with a vengeace, this is a real fun song(espically the music video which is worth owning), Girlschool is one rocking tune. Long way to love is another stand out track.
Kick n fight is a little weak, but it is still better than any of today's music out there.
Save the Weak is the ballad of the album, a pretty decent one (it's not Nobaody's Fool)but it's not bad.
Fun in Texas continues the pace of the album.
Rock Revolution is a great anthem rock song.
Don't Hide is the second best song on this album, it's very well done with a good guitar riff.
Gudbut T Jane is a reworking of a slade song, pretty good better than when slade played it themselves(in my opinion).
In America is another attempt at a rock anthem, not as good as Don't Hide, but not bad.
And Hold On closes the album with a punch, this song is a great one to blast in your car.
Overall if you want the 80's metal in it's prime this is a fine start.Their second album Boys in Heat is also worth picking up if you like this. In the end Britny Fox rock, I even have a logo patch of them on my jean jacket they rule. Long Live Britny Fox and breakin all the rules at the Girlschool!

4 out of 5 stars Still sounds good 15 years later.......2004-09-22

For anyone who thought that all hairbands were no talent posers(well they sorta were), this record proves the contrary. "Dizzy" Dean and his Philly buds deliver one good riff after another. Standing in The Shadow is big hair bliss. She's So Lonely, Plenty of Love, Angel in My Heart and Left Me Stray rocked me in 1989 and they still sound damn good 15 years later. Kick ass version of Hair of the Dog too. Forget the spandex and hairspray, Britny Fox was one hell of a good Rock band! I miss this kind of music. Long live the Big Riff.
