About the Artist
.hopesfall. began on a night in early march of 1998. The band formed spontaneously on a particularly boring evening in Charlotte, North Carolina. Our first goal was nothing more than to write a few songs and play a show. But as we were writing our songs we realized that we had stumbled onto something interesting and creative, so we began to set small agendas for the band. After our first show, we decided we wanted to play out of town. The next step was to play in a club instead of a house. Finally, we wanted to try our hand at recording our songs.

Our first record, "the frailty of words" came about after we met Vic Cuccia at a show in South Carolina. He offered to release a record for us, and obviously we were stoked. After being a band for only 8 months, we packed up our gear every weekend for two months and recorded in a makeshift garage studio. Shortly after we released our album we were lucky enough to get invited to play Cornerstone Festival. So in July of 1999, we played the fest and broke all the microphones. The fest administration was pissed, the people were excited, and we were relieved that we only had to pay $150 for the damage. After that experience, we decided to hit the road.

Fortunately for us, our first five day tour was with spitfire, and three of the shows were with 18 Visions. After our first taste of life on the road, we were ready to try and record again and tour some more.

It would be a full two years before our EP "no wings to speak of" was released on Takehold Records. We lost several band members, were robbed, bought a van who's engine exploded two months later, played a lot of horrible shows, were screwed over by shady unnamed record companies, had to tour in our cars, and had our EP release show go on without our new EP. To make a long story short, it was a difficult two years. But, these two years had their share of good times as well. We were lucky enough to meet some incredible people, play with some incredible bands, and a couple of us even graduated from college.

This all leads up to the present day. .hopesfall. is made up of five individuals who are committed to each other as friends, and to making music. We all have one goal in mind, to write creative and inspiring music. We do not wish to exist within confining genres and subgenres of the particular scenes that dot the hardcore/emo landscape. Rather, we hope to defy these categories placed on music by remaining true to the creative process of writing songs. Whether our music expresses itself through a melodic, spaced out riff; or through a heavy, driving breakdown... We will continue to push our own creative boundaries in writing music. We hope that the music world will support us on our way. We'll see you soon... and get ready to rock.

Many songs sound as if they were recorded using a pan flute or cheap harp. I would stay away from this one.

5 out of 5 stars Indescribable.......2007-05-31

The first time I heard a song from this CD, I was in total shock on how beautiful and melodic it was. Of course, the first song was "The End of an Era", which is a huge starting point into entering this album. With its alluring guitar work, entwined with lyrics that'll touch the very bottom of your heart, then add a little hardcore to mix it up, you'll have an album that moves you; an album that takes you to the beyond and enlightens your heart and mind.

From beginning to end, which is only four songs, "No Wings to Speak Of" brings forth a new approach to hardcore; it doesn't have to be all palm mutes and two note riffs. It can be extremely melodic and still consider itself hardcore.

Yet there aren't many words that can describe the beauty of this CD. So I will end it here. All I can say is if you want a band that can bring a calamity in you, then this is the album you want to buy.

5 out of 5 stars Like a thousand Mays, Junes, and Julys.......2006-03-02

It's hard not to speak hyperbolically about this record, because it is simply stunning and beautiful. It has a subtle, natural grace that can be found few other places, especially within the hardcore/emo genres. Restraint, fury, beauty, VVVRRRROOOOMMMM gazing into the stars.
I know it sounds lame like a typical fan reviewers' over-the-top, gushing cliche, but this record is one of the very rare few that deserves it.
Hopesfall do very, very much with very little. A true instance of minimalism = expansion/layered texture.
Just buy it. Every single song will overgrow you like intoxicating kudzu (if you have any taste).

5 out of 5 stars all the stars in the sky can't do this justice.......2006-02-06

one problem though - only four songs!
these four songs though... wow. millions of stars i give this ep. 4 or 5 years ago, this material was my introduction to music that heavily incorporates screaming vocals. words cannot begin to do this release any justice. the lyrics are extremely well written and thought out (it's defititely cool to read them while listening to the songs). the music is packed with so much energy that you just feel like jumping around. i cannot think of one aspect to complain about - it's that great. this ep is way up on the list of best musical pieces i have purchased or listened to (and i have a collection of well over 200 music cds, plus an awful lot of albums on other formats). maybe not for the technicality, but for the overall sound the guitars are in my opinion some of the best guitar compositions i have heard (greats like hendrix/fripp/clapton destroy them of course, but for modern music i think they're extremely impressive). drums sound good too, never resorting to typical beats (the drummer is by no means a danny carey, but still keeps the listener interested). music goes from point a to point b and never back to point a, which i love. for those that don't like screaming, try to listen to this and try to accept it for what it is - if you are not narrow minded you will realize the complexity and beauty in the songs and will perhaps even enjoy them. for those that don't like it, return to your mtv.

5 out of 5 stars beautiful.............2005-06-17

this cd has to be one of my favorite cds ever.Hopesfall takes the rawness of hardcore and blends it so beautifully, its totally something new to the hardcore scene. The riffs are heavy but hav more of a light feeling to them instead of just going all out with the heavy riffs.the scrams added onto them make this ep and their First trustkill debut"the satellite years" areal treat to those looking for seomthing new to the genre." the end of an era" is heavy and harmonic.best track that i have ever heard.A+

5 out of 5 stars I don't even know what to say.......2005-03-08

First of all, buy this cd. Now.

No like, Immediately.

This was the best 6 dollars i have ever spent in my entire life. This is one of my top 2 favorite albums of all time. It is hands down hopesfalls best work, and the recording quality is awesome.

One more thing.

April Left With Silence is the best song I have ever heard in my entire life. Period.

"The sound of a heart breaking" part is the heaviest you will ever hear a band play in your life for 10 seconds. Every time that part comes i have to rewind it. Its just too good.

They are so melodic. Their melodies are so soothing and even the screaming becomes melodic after you break in this cd.
Hey, just because this EP only has 4 songs, dont let that scare you. Beleive me, nobody loves Satellite Years more than me, and i love this cd 10 times more than satellite years even though it has half the songs. Yes, its that good.
