Great compilation - and that's just the first half........2005-09-14
I first got this on cassette in the summer of '94 and listened to it every day, drawn by its thematic range and compositional depth. And that was just side-one.
Elfman pioneered the sound that drives today's movie adaptations of comic-books and darker-themed children's stories. Side-One kicks things off with a rollicking, hyper-cartoonish theme from the first Pee-Wee movie - the one where Pee-Wee searches for his beloved bike. Elfman's theme contains layers of different rides - on tightropes, highways, in the middle of a NASCAR rally - which rudely yet melodically crash into each other.
The Batman entry actually contains several pieces - the opening credits, the extended sequence in the cathedral and the climax - which show Batman's darkened extreme at its "Frank Miller" best. (Dir. Tim Burton couldn't sustain the mood in the next sequel, and the franchise took a turn towards the camp of the TV series with the next 2 movies.)
The theme for "Dick Tracy" is perhaps the most romantic on this disc, a quality that surpasses the theme's comic-book origins, but ends on an ironic note that's pure Elfman.
"Beetlejuice" (opening & closing credits) gives Elfman's childish ID a chance to stretch its legs, or in this case, slam-dance.
"Nightbreed" is an enigma wrapped in a dark mystery, and that's just Elfman's score. Elfman's work on this movie is as good as the movie wasn't, having a more powerful narrative than the script - easily the best track on the entire disc, one likely to exceed the movie in its dose of chills.
"Darkman" doesn't quite rise to the occasion, though the score may be hobbled by the movie itself, which seldom surpassed one of the many "Batman" clones of the early 1990's. "Darkman" (the movie, I mean) excelled as a parody of many comicbook staples (the wronged hero, the relentless villain, the scientific breakthrough with just one flaw), but not enough to escape being largely anonymous. Within those constraints, it's still a moving if scary piece.
When is Elfman not like Elfman? When he was in the mid-late `80's and scored "Back to School" (A Rodney Dangerfield vehicle) and "Midnight Run". Horns in "School" bring it closer to Elfman's over-the-top style, while "Run" sounds like a love-theme for the run-down, out-of-the-way parts of America that seldom appear in Elfman-movies. "Run" is a fun score for a fun movie - it's nothing like Elfman's previous work but it perfectly captures the on-the-road-without-a-map craziness of the movie.
To this day, I don't know why I never ventured to Side-two, but it's irrelevant. Even half this disc is worth it
The best of Elfman!!!.......2005-09-05
I was obsessed about getting this CD right from when I heard about it. I found it at the library and was so excited about it, and it didn't let me down. In fact, it was a lot better than I expected. It's a fun and creepy (strange mix, but it really works!) collection of Danny Elfman's film and television soundtracks. The first track, Pee Wee's Big Adventure, is probably my favorite. Also, I really like Batman and Wisdom. Batman is creepy and dark, and Wisdom is just weird, in the best possible way.
I'd recommend this to anyone who likes film music, or everyone who is even the tiniest bit an Elfman fan. It's amazing!
Great Collection, A LIttle Too Eclectic.......2003-08-19
You should be able to tell from the movies and TV shows listed here whether or not you'd be interested in this collection. It's a little too eclectic for my tastes (hence only 4 stars) but better than volume 2. I think thatthe miscellaneous collected ites here along with the previously unreleased stuff should make this worth buying. Especially if you're a fan of Elfman's movie soundtrack work.
What Great Music.......2003-05-11
I fell in love with the music of Danny Elfman when Beetlejuice came out. There was something different about the music that he made. When Edward Scissorhands, and then Nightmare Before Christmas - I knew this man was a musical master. Its the verbal form of surrealism.
super.......2003-04-17
What a great CD. Danny's music is so original and inventive. this CD contains his pre 90's quirky, gothic music. it's all very well written and beautifully orchestrated. batman and darkman contain some really excellent long, dark, gothic cues that really take u away from reality. in my opinion no one, apart from howard shore, is as inventive and original as danny in the world of filmmusic. he far surpasses the repetitive works of williams or horner. buy this, and volume two, and keep supporting one of the greatest film composers of all time.ohh...and buy fellowship of the ring and two towers by howard shore....amazing work!

Disappointing! It's Not Even The Original Pee-Wee Score Used In The Movie!.......2005-12-22
Peee-Wee's Big Adventure is a good movie that is very funny and I loved the music used in the movie but this CD is disappointing. I'm very disappointed that this isn't even the original score used in the movie but is instead an imitation performance. A Reinactment!
It's Okay But There Isn't Enough Of The Music From The Pee Wee Movie!.......2005-10-15
I like Danny Elfman, he writes movie scores that are always great and one of his best is the score for Pee Wee's Big Adventure and while the Pee Wee tracks with the National Philharmonic Orchestra are great it would have been even greater if they had used the original master tracks and the scores on this CD are just too short. I have never watched the movie Back to School and that score does seem to overshadow the Pee Wee's Big Adventure score. Now I do recommend this CD but be prepared to be a little disappointed with the Pee Wee score getting the short end of the stick!
The DVD does have the original score.......2004-07-19
"Thank you" to all the previous reviewers who pointed out the limitations of this re-scored music. I thought I'd chime in with a discovery. The DVD of the movie has the isolated original score! Yeah!
If you buy or rent the DVD, just go into the menu options and there's a way to play the movie with only the music score isolated. (There's commentary by Danny Elfman too, but he doesn't talk over the music.)
Not enough Elfman!.......2002-05-25
The score to Tim Burton's PEE-WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE is one Danny Elfman greatest achievements. And for those who are upset about the lack of the film's music on this album [not that I blame you], I have some info. The original masters used to score the film were recorded w/an L.A. union orchestra, an orchestra that would have to be paid an enormous amount of money [and I am talking hundreds of thousands of dollar$] for the masters' release. Given this, 20+ mins of the score was re-recorded w/The National Philharmonic Orchestra [a Lodon orchestra]. Why only 20+ mins? You'll have to ask Danny Elfman or the record label, Varese Sarabande, about that.
I do not have this album, but I do have Danny Elfman's Music For A Darkened Theater Vol 1. which contains excerpts of this score. Since it is re-recorded, one might think that it doesn't sound as good as the original master tapes. Actually, some of the tracks sound identical those in the film, and some are somewhat similar.
Anyway, unless you really REALLY want this score, I suggest you wait for an expanded album, which I have no doubt [given its popularity] will eventually pop up. However this CD is not a total loss. After all, it has some of the best cues: "Main Title", "Breakfast", and "Clown Dream".
Can't go wrong with Elfman.......2000-01-27
The music from Back to School and Pee Wee is classic Elfman. It's a great CD to listen to when you're feeling down right silly. Unfortunately, the rights fell into the EVIL hands of Varese Sarabande. I don't know how they managed to cut so much out that they fit TWO scores into one half hour. Other than the fact that I loathe Varese Sarabande with a passion for time and time again depriving me of so much music, this CD is still a good buy.

Product Description
Official Warlock/Fresh/Traffic re-issue with original artwork and complete track listing. "Back To The Old School"-- seemed like a crazy title for an album that came out in 1986. What exactly did Just-Ice, Sir Vicious himself, mean by this? Back to the Bronx? Back to the streets? With the emergence and commercial success of Queens natives LL Cool J. and RUN-DMC, hip hop was reaching it's second decade: "The New School." On "Back to the Old School", Just-Ice, the original gangster of hip hop, teams up with Lord High Ruler and Emperor of the beat KURTIS MANTRONIK (Mantronix) and his partner in crime, the human beatbox COOL DMX. This is that pure, raw hip hop that everyone is fiending for. Traffic presents yet another classic from hip-hop's golden era complete with original artwork by NYC grafitti legends Gemini & Gnome.

Beat-Heavy Debut from Golden Age Legend.......2007-06-11
"Back to the Old School" was the first LP from Brooklyn/Bronx-bred hardcore rhyme stylist Just-Ice (Joseph Williams). According to his bio, he was a former bouncer in punk-rock clubs and a member of local NYC hip-hop crew the Sound Masters before securing a deal with New York indie Sleeping Bag Records, under their hip-hop subsidiary, Fresh. Paired with Fresh A&R man/producer Kurtis Mantronik (of the rap crew Mantronix), the duo would collaborate to release this highly influential LP in 1986. Very well-received at the street level and with hip-hop friendly nightclubs, "Back to the Old School" served as an underground counterpoint of sorts to the recent mainstream success of Run-DMC and the Def Jam stable of artists. Sleeping Bag/Fresh collapsed by the early 90's, but Traffic Entertainment has recently re-mastered and re-released the album (this is perhaps its first pressing on CD).
Pros:
Just-Ice's aggressive, gruff baritone set a standard for future MCs to follow like Freddie Foxxx and Def Jam's DMX. As produced by Mantronik, all the rhythm tracks feature either furiously up-tempo breakbeats or bass-heavy accompaniment to Just-Ice's human beat-box man, Cool DMX (no relation). Several of these songs would end up being sampled by either rap or electronica artists in the years to come. The LP's opener, the chorus-less and cowbell-punctuated "Cold Gettin' Dumb" finds Just-Ice letting it be known that he's taking no prisoners: "To the best of my knowledge I guess that I'm fresher, when I manifest, I never protest..." The semi-ballad "Love Story" dared to flex a romantic pose, anticipating LL Cool J's more refined "I Need Love" by about a year; the title track is a great showcase for Mantronik's DJ skills of mixing & scratching. "Little Bad Johnny" gives listeners a touch of the reggae influence that would inform much of Just-Ice's later work; more traditional battle raps anchor "Put that Record Back On" and "Turbo Charged".
Cons:
Just-Ice is a more than capable lyricist, but the period production values (largely devoid of hooks and R&B melody) may be off-putting to listeners used to contemporary rap. The casual sexism of even golden-age hip-hop creeps into a few songs, e.g., "Gangster of Hip-Hop", and is blatant on "That Girl is a Slut": Just goes into lurid detail about his sexual conquest of a known whore--though how this leaves him unscathed is an unintentional irony (Just claims to have worn "nine rubbers" just to play it safe). Here, Cool DMX gives pretty much the same beat-box rhythm as Doug E. Fresh & Slick Rick's "La Di Da Di", and the content is a variation on the theme of macho guys being dismissive of desperate `hood chicks. Depending on whether one is inclined to give credit or place blame, it also stands with period Too Short and Schoolly-D in foreshadowing the heavy pimp ethos that would define much of rap in the 90's and beyond. This would be the last full album of Just-Ice's collaboration with Mantronik. He wouldn't show up again until 1993's Gun Talk.
As a document of Reagan-era hip-hop, "Back to the Old School" makes more sense now than it may have when it was first released (for old-school credentials, look no further than the period graffiti artwork that graces the cover, highlighting a Roland 909 drum machine). Still, even with the two bonus songs, the album is only ten cuts deep (compared to eight on the original release). Perhaps not all of the masters were readily available (and for a long-defunct label like Fresh, that's certainly possible) but Traffic's re-releases of the Cold Chillin' catalog have been much more substantive. Knowledgeable crate-diggers could probably have found some more 12-inch/EP sides to include.
Overall rating: A-
A MUST HAVE OLD SCHOOL CLASSIC.......2007-03-09
IF YOU ARE A BIG FAN OF OLD SCHOOL HIP HOP THEN THIS ALBUM IS A MUST FOR ANY TRUE HIP HOP COLLECTOR.
"Just-Ice's Classic Debut!".......2007-02-11
This is the classic, hardcore, Hip-Hop debut album from the "Hip-Hop Gangsta'" himself. "Sir-Vicious" kills it over "The King of The Beats" (Mantronik) impecable production. This is Hip-Hop!! If you don't own this, you can not call yourself a Hip-Hop fan!

Album Description
The Wizard of Oz a musical with book and lyrics by L. Frank Baum and music by Paul Tietjens premiered on June 16, 1902, at the Grand Opera House in Chicago. It was an instant hit and made stars of David Montgomery (the Tin Woodman) and Fred Stone (the Scarecrow). On January 21, 1903 the show opened at the Majestic Theatre in New York. It ran for nine months and set out on the road with a second company right on its heels. The show toured, came back to New York, toured, and returned to New York again many times until finally disbanding around 1911. Stock and amateur companies continued to present it into the 1930s when it was overshadowed by the classic MGM film starring Judy Garland.
The show was legendary for its success and its impact on American culture. It was the Cats or Les Mis of the early 1900s--but the show has been swallowed by history. What made audiences of the early 1900s devour the show and return for more again and again? In this unprecedented 2-CD setfeaturing over 145 minutes of vintage recordings and 64 pages of lyrics, photos, notes and synopsisyou can discover how The Wizard of Oz entertained the American public for the first two decades of the 20th century. And like the audiences of nearly a hundred years ago, you can hum along to "Budweiser," "Sammy," and "Hurrah for Baffin's Bay"everyone's favorite songs from The Wizard of Oz! Also included in this comprehensive collection are recordings from later Oz musicals, The Woggle-Bug and The Tik-Tok Man of Oz written by Oz creator L. Frank Baum, as well as vintage non-Oz recordings by original "Wizard of Oz stars" Montgomery & Stone and Bessie Wynn
Customer Reviews:
A Collection of the Original Oz Stage Productions.......2006-12-07
This Double-Disk Collection contains music from the original and varied Oz Stage Productions: "the Wizard of Oz", "the Woggle-Bug" (based on 'Marvelous Land of Oz) and "the Tik-Tok Man of Oz" (based on 'Ozma of Oz'). There are plenty of "Wizard" songs and music, but there isn't a lot of "Woggle-Bug" and/or "Tik-Tok Man".
I often wondered how different the 1st & Original Production of 'Oz Wizard' was different to the book, and thanks to Mark Evan Schwartz's book "Oz: Before the Rainbow" I found out for myself (WORTH A READ!!). Later I got this CD to go along with the book's stage telling (more or less) and I listened in interest to the songs which, I read, were entirely different to the future Musicals of Oz. The songs are good, but not all of them are actually completely restored to perfection, so the singing may/will sound somewhat muffled. Also, due to the time it was made (for some reason), the songs don't actually fit into the story (even the stage's rewritten story) and sound distant/unrelated. But there are songs that sound similar to the original story ("Rejoice! The Wizard is No Longer King"). CD 2's Track 3 has music played during Silent Oz Film "His Majesty, Scarecrow" on the MGM 3-Disk DVD.
The best thing about this CD Collection is the two booklets packaged along with the disks: the first (entitled "The Records") has writing on "What the Wizard Was" with a synopsis of the stage production story and "About the Recordings", a listing of all the songs on CD 1 (which are helpful for "Selection" Tracks not specifically named on the back) and notes on the songs like their origins and background. Booklet 2 (entitled "The Lyrics") has the words to the songs (in case you can't make out the words/want to sing-along). BOTH CDs include b&w photos of the actors, performance (few of which can be seen in "Oz: Before the Rainbow" book) and even reprints of a few illustrations made for the stage. The pictures are the best part of this purchase.
The Entirely Different Songs may not fit with the story, original or rewritten, but there's nothing really wrong with the music when one enjoys to what they're listening to.
I know that there is also another 'Oz on Stage' CD Collection called "Before the Rainbow" . . . hmmm, I wonder if I should get that too?
Ain't it a Shame!.......2006-05-20
I think that this is a wonderful album of HISTORICAL value. Not too many people know this, but "the wizard of oz" was made into a smash hit in 1903, but because all the history was BARELY in obscurity, hungry tiger press wanted to educate the blockheads in the world about this remarkable piece of history. that being said, david maxine collected all of the old material, such as Piano rolls (my especial favorite of all of them is "the poppy song", i LOVE the bass notes: "nnn-ded-deh mmmm-ded-deh"), and music boxes, and cylinders, and records!
however, it is quite a shame that that CRAPPY movie with judy garland pushed this lovely musical into obscurity. i would have liked to see it in my day, but it was already lost in darkness, but thanks to the highly DIGNIFIED people in the world, this cd is available!! BUY IT!!!! I *ORDER* YOU!!! YOU CANNOT BE DIGNIFIED WITHOUT THIS REPLACING YOUR "RAP" GARBAGE WITH THIS JEWEL!!!!
Why the 1903 "Wizard" was forgotten.......2004-03-20
This truly remarkable 2-disc collection of old cylinders, discs, music boxes and piano rolls explains why the 1903 musical version of "The Wizard of Oz" did not survive the early thirties. It wasn't because it was before its time or even of its time, but simply because it was way behind the times. Its producers resisted composer's Paul Tietjens' attempts to write plot-driven numbers. His contribution survives only in the incidental music preserved on piano rolls (and the most interesting element on this collection) linking very disparate and even incongruous vaudeville acts by various authors and performers that graced the stage during the musical's multi-decade run. In other words, Baum was telling a story and the songs were telling another... As fascinating as they are for historical reasons, those numbers are commonplace, mostly uninspired flash-in-the-tin-pan ditties, with timid syncopation and a stong reliance on musical clichés. There is not a single standard among them and not even a decent lyric where "fine" doesn't rhyme with "mine" and "love you" doesn't rhyme with "I do"- or even "I know you know I know you do", as happens more than once. As an assemblage of shtick pieces and ephemeral sentimental or nonsensical ditties, this collection cannot be topped and it represents a monumental effort. Without it and its very generous and informative liner notes, I would not have the same appreciation for the absolute genius of Victor Herbert's operettas ("Babes in Toyland" came out the same year) where the more memorable songs are plot-driven and introduced and linked by the most luscious, inventive and varied incidental music ever heard outside an opera house. This sort of unified concept would culminate in Jerome Kern's "Show Boat" and it remains a truth today that the integration of plot and music - reminiscent of opera - is the true secret of successful and perennial musicals, whatever the current idiom. This collection also makes one appreciate the complete originality of the Hollywood film for actually going back to Baum's books, entrusting the songs, lyrics and music to Harold Arlen, Yip Harburg and Herbert Stothart and scrapping the musical's colourful but checkered history (except for casting ex-vaudevillians as the main characters, of course!). Highly recommended for its nostalgia value, its irreplaceable rarities and a better understanding of the history of American popular music.
A long overdue revisit to a classic American musical.......2003-09-30
Although it was one of the most financially successful stage musicals of the early 1900's, very little information is presently available on the 1903 production of THE WIZARD OF OZ. In what was obviously a labor of love, David Maxine has done much to correct this oversight by releasing a 2-CD set with over 145 minutes worth of extremely rare recordings of music from this and other OZ-themed musicals dating back to before World War I. Recorded materials include vintage acoustical disc and cylinder phonograph records, piano rolls, and music box discs, many of which go back almost a century. In addition, he has included two booklets worth of historical background information on the 1903 WIZARD OF OZ production, its stars, the individual musical numbers, and lyrics for the songs included on the CDs. (Lavishly illustrated with rare old black and white photos and artwork, these booklets, and the information they contain, are themselves worth the price of the set!) Several bonus CD tracks are included that offer rare recordings by Montgomery & Stone (the original Tin Woodsman and Scarecrow) and Bessie Wynn, who was also in the 1903 cast. Not just for dedicated Oz fans, this set is a "must have" for anyone interested in the history of American musical theater and American popular culture of the early 1900's.
Long-Forgotten Broadway Hit Gets First Rate Revival.......2003-09-17
One hundred and three years ago, author L. Frank Baum published the best-selling children's book of the 20th century, THE WIZARD OF OZ. Although the book was adapted several times as plays, silent motion pictures, animated cartoons, and radio shows in the next few decades, it is the 1939 MGM film that most people think of as THE WIZARD OF OZ. The success and popularity of that film completely eclipsed the memories of previous incarnations and even the book itself in popular culture. However, prior to the film's release, there was a successful stage version which premiered on Broadway in 1903 and delighted audiences for many years, making stars of Fred Stone and David Montgomery, the original Scarecrow and Tinman. As with the MGM film, chilren who saw THE WIZARD OF OZ on stage carried fond memories of the production into adulthood. Ray Bolger was so impressed with the Fred Stone's Scarecrow, that he remembered it vividly as an adult and based his own protrayal of the character in the movie on Mr. Stone's stage version.
Unfortunately, time and Judy Garland have pushed the once popular Broadway Smash into history. It has been all but forgotten...until now.
As the show moved from theater to theater and casts changed, so did the songs. Many of these were recorded on the primative equipment of the day: Wax cylinders, 78-RPM records, piano rolls, and music Boxes, and surprisingly many of these still exist. Now, thanks to those hard-working gents at HUNGRY TIGER PRESS, you can own these historic recordings on this awesome 2-CD set. THE WIZARD OF OZ: Vintage Recordings From The 1903 Broadway Musical contains over 145 minutes of terrific early 20th century music. You won't find "Over the Rainbow" or "Ding! Dong! The Witch Is Dead!" here. Instead, this WIZARD OF OZ contains tracks like "Budweiser's a Friend of Mine", "Sammy", "Hurrah for Baffin's Bay", and "Rejoice! The Wizard is No Longer King", each one a portal over the rainbow to the Broadway stage of a century ago.
Obviously the play was quite different in plot from the movie--Dorothy travelled to Oz with her cow Imogene instead of Toto, for starters--, but the songs represent the style of popular music of 100 years ago and are collected here in a beautiful compilation. The set contains two booklets of liner notes which contain credits, lyrics, a written history of the production, and are extensively illustrated with photos and illustrations. Although the sound quality of the source material is not always up to today's standards, the songs are presented in the best versions possible, and the music is highly enjoyable. With 60 tracks and the wealth of information contained here, both written and photographic, this 2-CD set is good value for the money. A must-have for all collectors of WIZARD OF OZ memorabilia, an insightful look at popular music and Broadway history from a century ago, a glimpse into ethnic and racial stereotypes that were accepted at the time, and a curiosity for fans of the 1939 film, this set is big on appeal. Kudos to the Hungry Tiger Press for rescuing this treasure trove of musical history from obscurity!

good for the true fan.......2004-05-08
Let me begin by saying I'm a big Deftones fan and that this CD is quite good. It's cool to hear flanger effects on the opening chimes to Live Mini Maggot compared to the studio version. Acoustic Change in the House of Flies was cool too. I only gave it 3/5 stars because on track 4, Nosebleed, theres a skip. And i've exchanged this item for a new one only to have the same problem. Also the levels between songs are messed up. i thought it could have been mixed a little better.
It's OK..........2003-04-27
I purchased this CD (my first Deftones CD) two weeks ago, after hearing Back to School, Be Quiet and Drive and Passenger. I have to say I was pretty dissapointed with it, the presentation of the CD was cool but the content on the CD is average, it certainly doesn't showcase Deftones at their best. Because of a crack on the cover, yesterday I took this back for a refund. The next Deftones CDs I plan to buy are "Around the Fur" and "Deftones", released on May 20th 2003. As for "Back to School EP", only buy it if you want to complete your 'Tones collection.
Solid Stop-Gap EP.......2002-10-23
This EP was released all over Europe (not just Germany as one reviewer said) in two editions, one with a slipcase cover and one without, to coincide with the Deftones 'Back To School Tour' with support from Linkin Park and Taproot in early 2001. The main selling point of the EP is that it features the single 'Back To School' which came about after the band were playing 'Pink Maggit' at a practice session and began to jam, eventually creating the new song. The other tracks included on this release are a live version of 'Back To School' as well as the original song 'Pink Maggit'. Old live favourites 'Feiticeira', 'Nosebleed' and 'Teething' are also included along with the acoustic version of 'Change (In The House of Flies)'. The EP also features a bonus multimedia feature in the form of 'White Pony EPK', the electronic press kit sent out to journalists before the release of the 'White Pony' album. The EPK is a mini-movie of sorts with the band playing as the action unfolds. Overall, this is a solid offering from the Deftones and will definitely help to tide fans over until the release of their fourth studio album 'Lovers' as well as bringing back memories of the tour for fans like myself who attended any of the shows.
Excellent, but here is some info to help you..........2001-04-04
This EP is great! It is an Import from Germany, the European Import is the same, but has no slip case (the picture that you see here is for the slip case). Here is a track listing:
----- 1. Back To School (Mini Maggit) 2. Feiticeira (Live) 3. Back to School (Live) 4. Lifter (Live) 5. Teething (Live) 6. Change (Acoustic) 7. Pink Maggit 8. White Pony EPK (Short Version, 8:32) -----
Songs 4 and 5 say that they were recorded in Chicago, but they were really recorded in Holland, and are the same versions that you will find featured on the Live [IMPORT] CD (Lifter), and the Back To School single (not EP, Teething). I hope this information was helpful. I know that it would have been for me when I was looking to buy it.
Back to School.......2001-03-31
I bought this CD along with adrenaline after witnessing the deftones playing with linkin park+taproot, for the b2s tour, and it was blinding, linkin park were great, they sounded amazing live, but the deftones completely eclipsed them, they are now my favourite band, and i own all their albums. Frankly, i'm not a big fan of back to school, it seems like an attempt to conform with the current trend of nu-metal songs, which is no good thing. It is a catchy melodic song, with chino doing an infectious rap for the verse, and the chourus is a speedier version of the end of pink maggit ("cause back in school..we are the leaders..." etc.). I preffered pink maggit, the song back to school is derived from, from the white pony album, thankfully its included with this EP. The live tracks, which make up the majority of this ep, are pretty good, its great to hear '7 words'(one of their best songs in my opinion)live. The highlight of this ep is definately the haunting accoustic version of 'change'. It takes one of the best songs from white pony and adds a whole new level to it. Also included is the bizarre 'white pony epk', which is a promo video for the entire white pony album. It is a cryptic film interlaced with the deftones performing some tracks from white pony.
I dont think back to school is a song the deftones should be promoting, it doesnt represent them fairly. If you are new to the deftones, get 'around the fur', it is possibly my favourite album ever.

The Legends Lives On.......2001-07-05
Iv'e listen to the album and I must say that crash crew is true to the heart legends in my book. This album is worth every penny. But there is only one downside to the album, and that is the title of the album does not contain the number one classic hit from the crash crew. And that is called High Powered Rap! Hey I'm not madd at Yah... Peace and Love to the crew.
Signing out...A True Fan for Life
CORRECTION of previous review.......2000-11-27
Correction: "High Powered Rappers" is NOT really on this CD. What they have listed is "High Powered Rap" a not quite 2 minute demo of the song before it was added to it's music and such. The song "High Powered Rappers" was released independently on a 12" in about 1979 and is HIGHLY rare. None of the crash crew's songs really compare to this old school classic. The only reason I got this CD was for that one song, very let down to find that the song isn't really on the CD at all. So if you are like me and are looking for this song, KEEP LOOKING because it's VERY hard to find (I'm still looking myself.
The Crash Crew.......2000-11-19
True Old School. The song "High Powered Rappers" on this CD is worth the purchase price alone. The same music as "Freedom" by grandmaster flash with kazoos added, this song was HOT back in the day. Very hard to find also. If you like real old school (like sugar hill, granmaster flash, etc..) your collection isn't complete without this.

The Flakes are tardy. They always have been. This album has been 8 years in the making, and they still can't get it together in time for the school year! Ah well, what do you expect from a buncha long-haired no-good-nics! Anyways, they FINALLY get it together to bring you the most exciting slab-o-wax (yes, and CD) since long hair ruled the planet. (oh, forgetting that little thing that happened in the 80's...umm, and the 70's too...) So, then what is this? It's a brand-new, 60's-garage-punk-manic-freakbeat Flakestravaganza!!!
