From the great grooves of the Gothenburg, Sweden, death-metal scene that spawned Entombed, Dismember, and the Haunted's immediate ancestor, At the Gates, comes another successful wedding of ominous Slayer-inspired metal with hard-hitting traditional rock. The accessibility of the onslaught brings Motörhead to mind, though the Haunted's sound is cleaner. In the Swedish style, even when the vocals are total gross-outs and the drums smack mercilessly, the guitars construct catchy melodic patterns like something from Judas Priest. With so much going on stylistically, the Haunted don't take metal to the next level; rather, they mark a new beginning in the vital, prolific Swedish scene. --Ian Christe

5 out of 5 stars It will make you do bad things.......2006-05-04

to say the album was the best haunted cd made would be an understatment. It not only is the best they have made, also beats almost every other swedish metal album too. its a little short, but goddamn, its just so good. If you like In flames then dont think that you will automaticly like this album( people tend to put most swedish metal In the same boat), But I shure do like both. So if you call yourself a swedish metal fan, you better have this album, otherwise your just a walking controdiction.

4 out of 5 stars What can I say, "The Haunted Made Me Do It".......2006-04-11

I would have to agree with Osmun315 said about this being the least best so far, but then again he wrote that like 2 years ago. This happens to be the first Haunted CD with Marco as the front figure, and I happen to like it. Not that Dolving was bad, I liked him too, but this one caught my attention first (hmm, especially since this was the first one I heard all those years ago).

Jeremy below can give you the ratings, but here is some heads up anyways.

The instrumental is pleasing enough albeit short and common(if that's the right word). "Leech" is a great mention because, well, it happens to be driven with everything to make a Thrash song... recalled by the fans. With "Hollow Ground", my first Haunted favorite, they continue pretty varied. The song is more complex and Aro sings a little cleaner and more variable. It's a really cool song that let's you catch a little breath.

After the short and hefty (really, hefty) "Revelation", "The World Burns" thunders through your speakers. Here they again start out super fast and with great riffs, but in the middle the song suddenly turns calmer and groovier. Really great riff indeed. "The World Burns" should become a one of your favorites, no-doubt (or in this case since it was released 6 years ago, is one of your favorites). "Silencer" shoud convince you of it's shred-fast guitar work and good melodies, which eventually becomes a tid-tad groovy in the middle.

The next-to-last song of the album, "Under the Surface", again features Mr. Aro with clean, yet electronic vocals. The song itself is varied and towards the end very doomy, like...uh, Morbid Angel. "Victim Iced" then sets a speedy close to a super-heavy and highly refreshing album.

The production of The Haunted Made Me Do It is great (meaning I don't see anything wrong with it). All instruments have their place and sound very powerful. At first I felt the clean vocals could have been inserted another way, but now they sound just right to me. The BIGGEST complaint I have about this CD, is that it is WAY too short, clocking in at less than 37 minutes. However, whoever is into Death or Thrash Metal has to check out the Haunted. If you haven't already, then get it, somehow, NOW.

5 out of 5 stars REAL Metal All The Way Through!!.......2005-09-13

Blistering modern thrash metal done by the Swedish titans known as The Haunted. Their second album "The Haunted Made Me Do It" is a kick ass follow up to the band's self titled debut. This is the first Haunted album with vocalist Marco Aro (who also did One Kill Wonder, and was replaced by original vocalist Peter Dolving on the band's latest offering "Revolver"). His vocals on here are just awesomely vicious throughout. You've also got awesome solos from Anders Bjorler, awesome rhythm guitarwork from Jensen (Anders's brother), good bass from Jonas Bjorler, and great drumming from Per M. Jensen. My favorite song on here is "Leech". Other great songs include "Bury Your Dead", "Revelation", "Hollow Ground", "Trespass", "The World Burns", "and Victim Iced". The other songs are great, but the ones I mentioned are my favorites. Please read on for my song ratings.
themetalbeast's ratings:

5. Hollow Ground - 5/5
6. Revelation - 5/5
7. The World Burns - 5/5
8. Human Debris - 5/5
9. Silencer - 5/5
10. Under The Surface - 5/5
11. Victim Iced - 5/5

Well there you have it. A must have for any true thrash metal fan. Buy it now. ALL HAIL THE HAUNTED! GREAT ALBUM!

5 out of 5 stars No, its not perfect, its damn good though!.......2004-10-18

These guys have been the talk of the underground for quite a while now, this was their second album and in my opinion the best so far. Unlike the newer record 'one kill wonder' this cd dosnt get ultra boring after the first few tracks, it holds its intensity all the way to the bloody end. If you like melo-death , or thrash you will most likely like this album alot. \m/

4 out of 5 stars Strong thrash effort... however..........2004-09-22

Of The Haunted's 3 discs to date, this is the weakest in my opinion. It was the first with Aro on vocals and I feel it has an aire of being less focused than the first or third effort. If you are a fan of great thrash, you will enjoy this album. I look forward to rEVOLVEr in October to hear Dolving back with this phenominal band. I am sure by default it will have to be a 5 star cd. Terrific band.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best thrash bands still together today..........2002-05-12

This album is without a doubt one of the greatest thrash albums ever constructed. Here is the track by track breakdown.

      1. Dark Intentions -(instrumental intro) interesting riff...thats about it. 7/10
      2. Bury Your Dead - 80's style thrash...yelling gets a little old though 8.5/10
      3. Trespass - Best guitar variation on the album. Also one of the best overall. 9.5/10
      4. Leech - Very good...guitar riff a little repetitive early on but still an excellent catchy song 9/10
      5. Hollow Ground - As good as it gets. First song on album to see vocals as in In Vein on the previous album. Extra emphasis on melody. Very catchy. 10/10
      6. Revelation - Comparative to the first song in quality and purpose on the album. It is short and frequently skipped. 7/10
      7. World Burns - Not as catchy as some of the other songs until midway through. The song writting really shines in this song. 9.5/10
      8. Human Debris - Almost as good as World Burns, but even less catchy and less complex. 8.5/10
      9. Silencer - A decent attempt at speed thrash (The fastest song on the album). Probably not as good as it could have been. 8.5/10
      10. Under the Surface - The best track on the album. Vocals are like in Hollow Ground, and there is an emphasis on melody. Excellent track. 10/10
      11. Victim Iced - Remeniscent of The Haunted first album, as in Bury your dead. Good ending song. 8/10

The five best tracks go in two directions. Tracks 3,4, and 7 (Trespass, Leech, and World Burns) are more 80's style
(Fans of old metallica, early sepultura, at the gates, etc will probably feel at home on these tracks)

While 5 and 10 (Hollow Ground and Under the Surface) are more modern, nu-metal sounding with more melody.

This CDs been out forever, well I'll fill you in. Ahh, a gorgeous collage of serial killers. This just screams metal. This is THRASH. From ex-At the Gates members comes the Haunted. This CD offers a wide variety of songs. Under the Surface and Hollow Ground give the in-flaes sound with tasteful clean vocals nand death metal mix, while still mainting the heaviness. For people with heavier tastes, Victim Iced and Revelation are played at light speed. These guys know how to play. Dark Intentions is the opening, instrumental track (which was actually made thought up in 5 minutes). nonetheless, very good choice to open it up with. Fans of Arch Enemy, At the Gates, Soilwork, In Flames, and maybe Children of BOdom fans should love this.
