Editorial Reviews
Product Description
Darkthrone's new album, 'Sardonic Wrath' is an explosive work of regression embedded with the original, solid black metal vitality that this legendary band is renowned for. "This album is inspired by the same things as the previous albums" explains Noctumo Culto. "I've always wanted to create those killers riffs and that is what makes me do this after all these years," continues Fenriz. "I have no control over what became of black metal after '92 / '93 so Darkthrone gives me the opportunity to create my own ugliness. I let everyone dress up whilst I dress down, basically."

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars great album from these Black Metal giants.......2007-01-01

Another great album, unrelenting, heavy, great lyrics, great product. Get this now!

4 out of 5 stars True Black Metal - by jerks?.......2006-08-09

Here you have the real thing - Black Metal without the frills. The guitar work is relentless. There is enough variation from song to song to avoid monotony. The snare could sound better, and the drumming is basic; these guys aren't virtuosos. The voice is tortured, of course. Sadly, they also fall in line with other intolerant bands, tho the lyrics are just 'all Satan, all the time'. (see the book Lords of Chaos for the lowdown). Nice instro soundscape at the start too. Is it wrong to like these guys? - you'll have to decide for yourself.

5 out of 5 stars perfect follow-up.......2006-03-06

you can't do a better follow-up than Sardonic Wrath...pure Darkthrone filth but still in the light of their creativity while being able to stay true to their selves...great rock based black metal...

4 out of 5 stars Pretty good! .......2005-08-23

This album is actually quite good!! No it's no Transilvanian Hunger (my favourite BM album of all time), but we don't get another one of those, ever. This album is raw, black and atmospheric. Just the way we like it! Amazing how a band can achieve so much with so little. It's so stripped down, and has a really good old-school feeling to it. 1st generation black metal and hardcore punk, but with atmosphere. They don't need the boring electronic intro though. This is the first "modern" (post 96) Darkthrone album that I really get into, and I am pleasantly surprised. I'm gonna buy it! Maybe even the t-shirt too! Darkthrone is by far the best black metal band ever. Yes their classic period is behind us, but if they keep on making records like this one, I'll stick around! If you like quality old-school black metal with a retro-feel, buy this baby.

4 out of 5 stars It's a grower..........2005-06-18

It took awhile, but this album has really, grown on me, unlike older darkthrone, the blastbeats are kept to a minimum. This one is catchy punky raw black metal, almost every song is memorable, i wish my writing had more zazz or pop or something.
