4 out of 5 stars Big Naz Fan.......2007-06-04

Don't take me to a Nazareth concert because I sing along with every song. That is a good thing for me but a bad thing for you and your ears. I did not give this album 5 out of 5 because there are a few Nazareth albums that I like better. With that being said, this is a rocking album.

I love Go Down Fighting and This Flight Tonight

Not Faking It is a typical hard rocking Naz song with Dan McAfferty's vocals ruling .

Turn On Your Receiver is a softer rock song than Not Faking It, but it rocks still.

Teenage Nervous Breakdown is a nice diddy with an infectuous beat that keeps you listening and rocking

Free Wheeler is OK

Child In The Sun is a typical Dan Mc. ballad

The Ballad of Hollis Brown - is not my cup of tea

I can't say that every song on this CD is great but I can say, it is well worth the money.

I have to also say, Thanks to my late friend, Ronnie Van Pelt, who turned me on to this album back in 1978. God Bless your soul, Ronnie

4 out of 5 stars POWREFUL .......2006-11-28

Nazareth were not the best songwriters, but their early material packed a whole lot of power. This album is a very good example. As mentioned in previous reviews, 'Not Fakin' It' is definitely as raw and heavy as early heavy metal gets. Nobody can outscream Dan Mcaffertey, and that's everybody from death metal bands like Slayer to AC/DCs Brian Johnson. It's quite evident that 'This Flight Tonight' was meant to be a soft pop ballad with deep lyrics, but Nazareth supercharges it with so much octane and wallop, it rightfully becomes their own song. The galloping riff nearly predates speed metal (unless you count Deep Purple's more dated sounding 'Hard Loving Man'). Instead of a solo, Manny lays out a soaring and atmospheric guitar note that simulates flying through the clouds like a seagull. Pure genius I tell you!

As for 'The Ballad of Hollis Brown', it's very droning as a song but as a sounscape or a sketch, it's quite powerful and VERY eerie. Strong images are conjured up with the lyrics, especially towards the end when the drums pound along with the shocking shotgun blasts. Very unique.

5 out of 5 stars Put Away Your AC/DC Records...This Is The Real Deal.......2005-04-12

LOUD 'N PROUD was their fourth album, the successor to the devastating RAZAMANAZ.
The most blazing tune on this album is "Not Fakin' It", a shattering fast rocker that kicks so much ass it should've came with a warning label. This song alone is practically worth the price of the whole album.
"Go Down Fighting" is an awesome opener full of attitude and rawness. "Teenage Nervous Breakdown" is exactly the kind of bluesy hard rock that AC/DC would soon copy from these guys. But it's no contest, they sound like chumps compared to Nazareth. Ditto for "Turn On Your Receiver" and "Free Wheeler". THIS is rock 'n roll, ladies and gents!
Their cover of Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight" has a hammering bassline and is very melodic. This was the hit single from the album. "Child In The Sun" is an amazing soulful ballad. Dan McCafferty has to have the most multi-faceted voice in all of rock. I'd pay money to see Brian Johnson or Bon Scott sing this! (With all due respect to Bon).
And "Ballad Of Hollis Brown" is practically beyond words. Slow, pounding, evil and moody, they even put Sabbath to shame with this one. The distortion and feedback from Manny's guitar sounds like it's coming straight from the bowels of Hell. Damn these guys were awesome.

In short, you can have your Black Sabbaths and AC/DC's, they are all good. But there's something about Nazareth. For those of you who've only heard "Hair Of The Dog" and "Love Hurts", definitely seek out their first five albums, unavailable in America but more than worth buying an import copy.

My personal favorite hard rock band ever.

5 out of 5 stars Great Nazareth Album.......2005-04-01

If you like Nazareth, you must have this album! Not Fakin It, Go down Fightin, this albums great!

4 out of 5 stars Ballad of Hollis Brown? OUCH!!.......2005-03-13

Nazareth in the mid-70's was as ballsy and blusey as Grand Funk, the Rolling Stones and Bad Company, but with more "attitude". Loud 'n' Proud starts off with 5 "in your face" rockers with Dan McCafferty belting out the lyrics in his most distinctive voice. His voice is very high pitched and extremely rough, but I like it. The cover of Joni Mitchell's "This Flight Tonight" is good. "Child in the Sun" is a decent ballad but nothing extraordinary. Then comes "Ballad of Hollis Brown", Bob Dylan cover. What were they thinking? This creepy thing is about a guy who lives on a farm with his wife and five kids and is down on his luck. He kills all of them before killing himself. It's not the story that's bad. This thing drones on for over 9 minutes with nary a change in tempo or chording. It's like listening to someone drag their fingernails across a blackboard. The band themselves admit it was a poor choice for the album. And to top it off, the remastered edition gives us another shortened version of this 'song'. It's easy to program around but my complaint is that it takes up space that two good songs could have used. Except for this one blemish, this is a ballsy, gritty rock album.

5 out of 5 stars all round Great album.......2002-01-23

This one is truely amazing album with all the great stuff. If you're just into Nazareth or you just know "LOVE HURTS", try this album and you will want for more of Nazareth. This original 1973 released is not going old in turn of music and lyrics quality. It still rocks after all these years.
"GO DOWN FIGHTING" is great opener or apetitizer. "NOT FAKING IT" has interesting (and funny?) lyrics with catchy rock tunes. "TURN ON YOUR RECEIVER" and "THIS FLIGHT TONIGHT" have appeared on almost all of NAZARETH's Greatest hits. So no need to say how good and "classic" rock tunes they are.
"CHILD IN THE SUN" is the slow ballad but not to my taste. Anyway, it is good song. "THE BALLAD OF HOLLIS BROWN" is angst-ridden Dylan's style song. Listen to the lyrics and you will feel the frustration and desperation of HOLLIS BROWN whoever he is.
"TEENAGE NEVERVOUS BREAKDOWN" is great fast rocker song which doesn't appear on much of "GREATEST HITS" albums which is a real pity.

5 out of 5 stars Fantastic! Naz at their best!.......2001-11-11

Great album to throw on during a get-together. If ya want good, up-beat music for a party, this is the one. This album opens with a toe tapping rocker that sets the pace for the rest of the songs. "Go Down Fighting" tells it like it is. In the same vein as Shanghai'd in Shanghai, I wonder why this wasn't part of another "Greatest Hits" compilation. "Not Faking It" comes in next with the same amount of energy, then adds more to it!.. also provides us with some interesting lyrics as well. This should get you out of your chair at this point. "Turn on Your Receiver" needs no explanation, a cut included on the Greatest Hits album, along with their wonderfully powerfull rendition of Joni Mitchells "This Flight Tonight". "Freewheeler is a steady, driving song that also has it's merits in the ability to carry you through on any dance floor. "Teenage Nervous Breakdown", the quirky yet extremely catchy and once again rockin tune maintains the consistant up-tempo feel to this album. Only then does it take us right back down to Earth with a beautiful ballad, "Child In The Sun". The final touch to this gem is a Bob Dylan song "The Ballad of Hollis Brown" which showcases their ability to get as bluesy as the rest of them. If your a Nazareth fan to any degree, this is one album you must have in your collection, you won't be disappointed!

      4 out of 5 stars Among Nazareth's Best.......2001-10-01

While full of the excesses prevalent on many of the 70's hard rock recordings, this release is among the best to come out of the decade. Bluesy and raw with some outstanding greasy guitar.

I heard the sample "Dragonlord" from metal-rules.com and I loved the song! I was hesitant to get the album because I thought that would be the only good song and the rest would be horrible. I experienced this before and I didn't want to blow [money]...... But after hearing all the songs, I had to say that these guys from Morifade know what they are doing and are damn good at it! Many songs were better than Dragonlord! First off, this type of metal isn't for everyone. It is melodic metal. Each song has epic quality and you know must have been "crafted" with care. The theme is medival/fantasy and maybe some metalheads may be shocked that it isn't thrashy and lightning fast (that's another genre folks). But if you want to listen to another genre of metal that just oozes out talent and amazing songs, well try Morifade "Possession of Power." Listen to a few samples, and give it a shot. Melodic, POWER Metal... Yeah, that's it! I personally think this is one of that best buys I made for this genre and I can't stop listening to it.

Thornclad hail from Sweden where competition for attention is tight with strong Death/Thrash bands being in multitudes. Thornclad are a slightly above average outfit who play a rather old school sounding rendition of Kreator and Sodom-like tunes. While some good ideas do ooze out of Coronation of the Wicked, its probably not enough to turn all that many heads. Still, this album has just enough good material to make it a worthy purchase for the fan who has everything else already.
