Customer Reviews:
My first metal album.......2007-06-22
Thank god I picked this one up 2 years ago. If I had picked up a slipknot album instead, I don't think I would have ever gotten into metal. As it is, this happens to be one of the best metal albums ever released, and I was able to appreciate it because I was a prog rock fan before this. This album is responsible for helping me change from a hippie to a metal-hippie. With the strong role this played in my becoming a metalhead, after months of playing this album sometimes daily, sometimes weekly, I got tired of it and moved on to other death album and eventually on to black metal and then back to death metal. A year ago I listened to this again, and I purchased painkiller by judas priest based on the awesome cover, and then I got into old school metal. This album helped me get into 2 different types of metal. Then today, I pulled it out, and I noticed something, polyrhythms. Since I have been learning drums recently, I was really impressed and now I am a richard christy fan as well as a chuck fan.
Since the mere fact that this album changed my life might not be enough to convince you, let me elaborate on the music a little. This album is not like other death albums. Chuck uses a higher pitched voiced voice which kind of reminded me of a pirate somehow. I think it has more to do with his singing accent. THe singing is amazing, and I can't believe some people hate this album because of the singing. He is articulate but incredibly intense and aggresive. If you only like death grunts a la suffocation, then you are too close minded for this album. The rhythms are rather angular. I already mentioned the subtle polyrythms in the drumming, but beyond that, the guitar rhythms are jerky. This combines to make it seem almost funky, but not really. The guitar combined with the drums makes a spectacular rhythm section. On top of that, Chuck adds melodies on the guitar and some very twisted harmonies. The style of this seems unprecedented to me, but then again I haven't heard all the metal in the world. The guitar solos are all absolutly fantastic. It is just Chuck this time, but if if he had brought back Paul Masvidal from Human, I suspect he wouldn't be outshined this time like on he was on human, because chuck really pours his soul into the solos. At the end of the album is the best work death has ever done. Painkiller is an amazing cover, however the original was actually better in my opinion. But the solo in the song is extended and I slightly prefer it to the Priest solo, which was also amazing. The stuff I was considering death's best work is the three songs before that.
I would not advise against this being your first death album like many of the other reviewers, since it was mine and I loved it. This album is absolutly essential for anyone who considers himself a true metalhead. Symbolic and Human are also essential albums by this band.
Death's finest hour.......2007-06-16
I finally got around to buying this disc. In my opinion, Death's best release. Chuck was totally on top of his game, and this was my favorite lineup of the band. Tragic loss and a great talent was taken from us too soon. Anyway- if you are a fan of this genre, definitely pick up this disc.
...........2007-05-13
well there's no talk about the album coz it's a great album indeed but what i wanna talk about is the item itself, the only thing that annoys me is the cover...coz why it has to be in a big frame so the cover got smaller....besides i didn't order that version although it wasn't bad...the dvd is kinda useless coz the quality of the live is bad and apparentely it was taken from a video tape..and it has a lot of cuts
This one has entered my dreams people.......2007-05-01
Yep, I dream about the tunes on this CD. Absolutely a ridiculiously great CD start to finish. I would agree with most here that it does take time to "digest" this but once you do the rewards are great. I love this CD and its definately one of the best metal CDs you will ever run across. Pure genius.
Excellent........2007-01-07
Not being much of a death metal fan, I was suprised at how much I adored this album. There are generally things I appreciate about many technical and progressive Death metal bands (IE Necrophagist), such as the muscianship and talent that they have, but the vocals are rarely one of them. Strangely, The Sound Of Perseverance is different. I actually think Chucks vocals add significantly to the album. They sound great. Five stars and definitely a must have.

Album Description
This limited edition release of the original soundtrack recording to Invasion of the Body Snatchers is its world-premiere on CD. The 1978 remake of the classic 1950s sci-fi shocker was directed by Philip Kaufman (The Right Stuff / Quills) and starred Donald Sutherland and Leonard Nimoy.
Other cast included: Brooke Adams (The Dead Zone), Jeff Goldblum (The Fly / Independence Day) and Veronica Cartwright (Alien / Witches of Eastwick).
The original score was composed by Denny Zeitlin. Jazzy, innovative, experimental and unforgettable. This remains the only film score from the composer.
The booklet features extensive liner notes by film music journalist Paul Tonks, with reminiscences from the composer, while the album itself contains a 30 minute audio interview with Zeitlin.

INVASION of the FIlm Scoe buffs.......2004-11-20
I felt like I had been wishing for a CD release of this film score ever since I had first seen this film for the first time ever on DVD. The score is very 1970's cool. This may sound as if I find it "tacky" this is not the case. It is a chilling film score that gives this film a real heartbeat. Any film score buff should run to buy this cd not only for the score but the interviews also. They are very informative and entertaining. Denny Zeitlin's one and so far only film score is a triumph for films of this genre. This CD does not contain the Jerry Garcia banjo cues - Film buffs of this film know that the late Mr Garcia laid down a few cues that were used for the in film as a favor to the director. These are dubbed for the homeless banjo player within the film. This is a rare jewel in my film score CD collection. I highly recommend this CD. JackDVD@aol.com

A Hidden Treasure.......2004-08-23
Woodenhead has been making great music for a very long time in New Orleans. This CD is a treat for any lover of progressive music. The tunes are complex; the solos are good. The style is very mixed, which is what makes it progressive. I can't wait for their next one.
Great Band; Great Album!.......2003-11-12
A truly wonderful blend of jazz fusion, rock, and a host of other influences. If this band had the national recognition, you would hear the name Jimmy Robinson mentioned with the likes of Clapton, Beck, Robertson and Page as one of the truly great guitar players. They are not afraid to try new things, and they produce a sound that is unique that makes you want to listen to the album again and again.
Perseverance.......2003-05-14
Woodenhead Perserverance is the best album I have purchased in a long time. This is progressive rock at it's finest. I can definatly see influences from Frank Zappa and King Crimson. I strongly recommend this to any prog rock fans, or any fan of New Orleans music.

Product Description
Superior import edition from Japan, released in 1998 on the prestigious Victor label out of Tokyo, this import edition featured the bonus track "Painkiller" (a cover of the legendary Judas Priest track from their 1990 album), which, arguably... once you hear it, is worth the admission price alone. The vocal delivery on this track by the late Chuck S. is nothing short of astounding. His work with Death since 1986 pioneered the death metal scene, yet... the vocal style he utilized for this one song, once again redefined metal. A death metal vocalist, nailing skyhigh notes originally intended for Rob Halford. A legendary release, by a legendary group, with the bonus track "Painkiller" making this import an essential aquisition not only for any fan of Death, but a fan of metal in general. Out of print and unavailable in Japan since September of 2000.
