dumbass prices from the store.......2007-06-23
Ya I have a copy of Sword Metalized. It's an awesome album. I have a copy of it already and I figured I could buy a CD version. Then I see some moron selling it for $500. Cripes, they aren't that good to dish out that kind of cash. I feel sorry for the sucker who does buy it for that price.
Anyways, great album for me being from Montreal like the band themselves, but I want to spit on my palm and slap the guy who's selling it for $500.
One of the BEST albums in the history of Metal.......2007-05-14
In 1986 the Canadian band Sword released their debut album METALIZED. It is, simply put, one of the BEST recordings in the history of all genres of heavy metal.
Sword's brand of metal on METALIZED is not thrash, speed, death, black, doom or glam metal. It's heavy metal pure and simple. I'd call it power metal but there are too many crappy modern-day power metal bands that have effectively given that label a bad name (the excellent Wolf are an exception, of course). Their style is decidedly 80s but it definitely stands the test of time. This is just good music, period. Their sound has elements of the following bands:
Judas Priest circa SIN AFTER SIN, STAINED CLASS, BRITISH STEEL and SCREAMING FOR VENGEANCE.
Motley Crue circa SHOUT AT THE DEVIL and TOO FAST FOR LOVE.
Mercyful Fate circa DON'T BREAK THE OATH and MELISSA.
Metallica circa RIDE THE LIGHTENING.
Warlord, a fairly obscure California band.
Although METALIZED is reminiscent in some ways of these band (in the particular eras noted) the album is completely UNIQUE. In other words, Sword sounds like no one but themselves on METALIZED.
The singer is especially unique, sort of a cross between Rob Halford, (early) Vince Neil and perhaps a little King Diamond or Ronnie Savage. He's generally a "high singer" but not one of those gag-inducing high singers that you hear in so many modern-day power metal bands.
The songs are heavy, aggressive, melodic and full of hooks. The composition is flawless. Favorites come to mind (e.g. "Stoned Again," "Evil Spell") but, really, this is a CD where you just press 'play' and enjoy. Yeah, it's that good.
I should also mention the highly intriguing lyrics. Although dedidedly metal in nature (i.e. wild, raw and primal), they have depth, intelligence and even spirituality (unlike the forgettable, juvenile and downright cheesy lyrics of too many metal bands). There's an interesting spiritual thread that runs throughout the lyrical themes that keeps you scratching your head and guessing. Take, for instance, the song "Stoned Again." You would think it addresses the conventional subject of partying til ya puke (e.g. "Living After Midnight," "Rock 'N' Roll All Night") but that's not what it's about at all. Actually the song is a primal lamentation regarding falling back into a negative habit that the lyricist clearly wants to escape. That's just one example.
In 1988 Sword released their follow-up SWEET DREAMS, but it was a disappointment, being slightly more pop-friendly with fairly mediocre songs. Thus METALIZED ended up being a once-in-a-lifetime moment for Sword and all metal fans, one of the best moments in the genre's chronicling.
Say what, you guys?.......2007-03-26
Who's writing all the reviews of this album? I have a feeling at least a couple of them are written by the band. That's the only way to explain it. This album is not good. Are you kidding me? Why listen to this when there is SO MUCH music out there that blows this out of the water? Listen, for what you have to pay for this mediocre CD, you can go out there and get two Megadeth or Judas Priest or Motorhead CDs. So just do that. Pass this one by. You won't miss it.
Lost Gem.......2006-06-28
This is the avenue Heavy Metal would have taken if not for the short lived grunge era. A cross between Armored Saint and Metallica, Sword brings the best of heavy guitar work and the out of this world vocals that popularized great bands of this era. A lost gem for any Metal Head trying to piece together what could have been, and most definitely a great inspiration for lead singers trying to polish their chops!
Amazing Band.......2005-01-27
I've been looking for this CD for a long time, i had it on tape but the sound is a lot better on CD. These guys new how to rock, it's an amazing CD to add to your collection 80's metal at it's best three thumbs up!!!

An Overlooked Gem of Metal.......2007-05-01
I saw this on someone's best Metal list and thought.....yeah...I gotta go concur, only to find that there is only one review of this so far but it isn't the guy who put it on the list!!
Anyway.....I saw Sword in a club in Atlanta in 86-87, just happened to be there, had never heard of them, but they caught my eye (ear)!! It took 4-6 months until I saw this CD and I bought it immediately!!! Great balls to the wall metal with good guitar work from a left handed guitarist and good, strong vocals!! Unfortunately, I never saw them again though they did release a 2nd CD, which wasn't quite as good as this one but still worth searching out.
The track list is 1 - F.T.W. (Follow the Wheels) 2 - Children of Heaven 3 - Stoned Again 4 - Dare to Spit 5 - Outta Control 6 - The End of the Night 7 - Runaway 8 - Where to Hide 9 - Stuck in Rock 10 - Evil Spell
If you like good metal seek out a used copy. It's worth it for #s 1, 3, 4 & 10 alone!!!
A good 80's hard rock album.......2000-12-21
Sword was a band that never really made it in the 80's, but if you were a metalhead back then, you'll remember that when all of the greats of that era were asked what their favorite album was, almost all of the big stars said they thought Sword-Metalized was their favorite metal album. And why not? They had a terrific vocalist, an absolutely excellant guitarist, and a great rhythm section too. This album is loud, and rough, but certainly polished, and the sound quality is almost akin to arena rock type bands, but the material is certainly all 80's style heavy metal. "Follow the Wheel" and "Stoned Again" are the standouts on this album, but the whole thing just gleams with heavy metal excellance. Sword only continued on for one more album after this, the equally excellant "Sweet Dreams", which is also worth looking into if you have the time; you won't regret it!
