Remastered Plus..........2007-04-13
I liked the album to begin with, and I like it even more with the bonus songs. There is one thing everyone seems to agree upon. This is not the usual TS album. The 'Live at Wacken' extras, and I think the behind the music special, tell us that this was supposed to be a Dee Snider solo record, but the label wanted a TS album. In retrospect, after 'Come Out And Play' I think a change of pace was good for TS. That gives us 'Love Is For Suckers'. I thought the album cover was a creative illustration for the title. I have to agree that 'Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)' and 'Yeah Right!' are the heavy hitters on this one. Wake Up could have been a huge hit had it arrived a couple years sooner. The overall content is different in its references to women/sex, but that goes with the theme of the title. The music does come across softer than previous TS offerings as well. Songs like the title track, 'Me And The Boys', 'One Bad Habit', and 'Tonight' are solid tracks. 'Hot Love', 'I'm So Hot For You', and 'You Are All That I Need', which are good songs, really represent the rock scene in the late eighties. Had Bon Jovi or Poison put these out they probably would have been hits... but Twisted Sister? Good songs, just out of character.
I really enjoyed the bonus songs. 'If That's What You Want' and 'Feel Appeal' are the strongest I would say.
I give this remastered album 4 stars. I would give the original 1987 version 3 stars.
not a review but...........2006-02-03
for you guys that do not know this....you may quote me if i am wrong....but Reb Beach from Winger played most of the guitars on this album.....
What the???! .......2005-10-08
Well i downloaded the whole record, and listened to the songs: wake up, im so hot for you, i want this night and love is for suckers, and even thought and i couldnt listen to any more of it, this is not twisted sister, this is a pop band trying to get laid....
Well some reviewer said that they dont talk as much as sex as rap, well i like rap, but the rap i like doesnt talk about sex, at least when the rappers i like talk about sex, they are not trying to get laid. I like insane clown posse, abk and tupac.. But none of them released a whole album trying to get chicks to love them. This is not the twisted sister from back in 84, their last good album was stay hungry. This album totaly sucks.
I dont know, maybe Dee Snider was on crack when he wrote this lyrics. I loved Stay Hungry, Under The Blade and even the new Still Hungry, but belive me dont buy this album if you like twisted sister, because this is not them... Its a band on crack...
Old school metal!!!!!.......2005-08-30
O.K before I begin this review, let me just say that I am a big Twisted Sister fan..makes sense since I bought this album and will take the time to review it.....so a little biased towards TS I might be...and since I have received no formal training as a music critic and could really care less about the technical aspects of the music or how proficient the bass player is in playing his instrument( I'll leave that for the true MUSIC GEEKS out there) I do care about one thing....DOES IT ROCK???...does it make me wanna stay in my car to hear the next song????...does it take me back to a time when acid wash jeans were the style and DEE SNIDER was the baddest frontman in rock???? A BIG YES TO ALL OF THE ABOVE!!!!!.....if you want music to save the world, listen to U2...if you want bad poetry put to a boring beat, listen to Coldplay...if you wanna hear some white guy pretend to be black and pick on his mom on every fckin song, listen to Eminem....but if you wanna be honest with yourself and admit that almost all of todays music sucks you will come to the same conclusion that I came to as well.....the best record i bought in 2005 was made in 1987.....LOVE IS FOR SUCKERS....now go save the world Bono!!!!
Not the kind of stuff you'd expect Dee Snider to write.......2005-08-23
I hate to agree with some of the previous reviewers...the music on this album is very good, but it's not the kind of thing you'd expect Dee Snider to write. Most of the album pretty much implies sex (but not half as much as stupid rap does). If you don't know what I'm talking about when I say that the album implies sex, then you should look up the lyrics and take a good look at them. Does "do you wanna play" from "I'm So Hot for You" ring a bell?
All in all, I love the album because the music is so good, but it bothers me that Dee Snider would end up writing songs that are completely based on sex.
Another thing that irritates me is the lyrics that were included with the album. They look like they were written by someone who was on sleeping pills! I found that some lines were missing, and the wrong words were used in the wrong places. Also, lyrics for the bonus tracks were not included, which made it hard for me to make out the lyrics properly.
One thing that I really liked about the album is new drummer Joey Franco's style. He did a lot more on the drums than A.J. Pero did, and did a couple different beats. That's not to say that A.J. Pero is a bad drummer, because he's really good too.

Every last note..........2006-06-14
A super budget 5 CD collection of all of Grainger's Piano music.
Every last note!
The shipping alone would be $17.00+ for the 5 individual Cds.
Englishman Martin Jones plays these as if he wrote them. He is thoroughly inside this music.
I think his best work to date.
He is joined on CD #5 by Richard Mcmahon and Phillip Martin. Where they rollick in various combos and trios on 1, 2 and 3 pianos. This is exhilerating. Especially on an truly uplifting version of Green Bushes.
The entire set is strongly idiomatic and given a clear, crisp, warm and spacious recording. FIRST CLASS sound.
There are too many highlights to single out, but the In A Nutshell Suite and Green Bushes are especially GOOD!
There is not a bad note or "vibe" on any of these CDs.
Highly recommended for Granger fans and fans of English Piano Music.

Tribute to Grainger.......2005-07-30
My star rating is in relation to the other Grainger Edition discs. This album has many tracks and all the most famous works of Grainger are on here, focusing mostly on his British work as opposed to Danish or his pieces that are totally original work. Thwaites really has a passion for Grainger as you can tell if you read some interviews with her. As Grainger pointed out it's hard to fit music which is so multifaceted into one instrument, even if there are 10 fingers working but Thwaites really takes advantage of the freedom of solo work and is wonderfully dynamic with volume and tempo and she adds so much character to these pieces, I especially love her Shepherd's Hey! On many pieces she uses some of Grainger's style: very powerful and almost frantic playing, but not too much. Listen to Grainger playing Molly on the Shore on piano and you'll know what I mean! This is one of the cornerstone discs of the Grainger Edition. To the Fore!

This album rocks!.......2006-04-01
This album is cool, the best song on it is Wake Up The Sleeping Giant and 2 members of the 80's band Kix sang backup vocals on this album and the drummer on this album is Joey Franco he was also in Dee's band Widomaker, buy this if you are a true Twisted Sister fan.
4.5 stars - The last of the classic Twisted Sister albums.......2005-06-01
Love Is For Suckers (1987.) Twisted Sister's fifth album.
Twisted Sister was a great eighties metal band, but sadly their career was a scattershot and short-lived one. The band released two awesome albums early in the decade, which while excellent, didn't achieve any mainstream success. Fortunately, their 1984 album Stay Hungry transformed them into living metal legends practically overnight. And then came the dud of the bunch. 1985's Come Out And Play featured a shift toward a commercial-oriented, pop-metal sound. The shift essentially killed the band's popularity as early as it had been born. Wanting to reclaim their audiences, the band performed a last-ditch effort - trying to return to an overall heavier sound. Love Is For Suckers, the band's 1987 release, was the result of this.
This is an interesting album. Although it doesn't quite live up to the first three Twisted Sister releases, it is a major step up from the disappointing album that came before it. The album is certainly more on the commercial metal side than the first three albums, but unlike the album before it, this is classic metal. However, the album doesn't really sound a lot like Twisted Sister - but rather more like a generic power rock band. Despite that, it's still a good album. The opener, Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant) is hard and heavy mainstream metal at its absolute best. This song should have been a number one hit on the pop charts, but sadly, it wasn't and its excellent is not recognized by anyone but the true Twisted Sister fans that discover this album. Hot Love and the title track are also underrated classic metal gems. Songs like Tonight and Me And The Boys are the classic pop-flavored metal the band introduced on the album that preceeded this one - but fortunately, this time around that's not what the whole album is made of! One Bad Habit sounds like a blatant rip-off of KISS - if you remember right, there were some KISS rip-offs on the previous albums, so it's not surprising to find that group's influence again. The last few songs are pretty generic as far as eighties metal goes, but they're still good tunes. If Come Out And Play was a disappointment to Twisted Sister die-hards, Love Is For Suckers is certainly a step in the right direction. Too bad it was their last album.
Twisted Sister's albums got remastered and reissued, but unfortunately, despite this, they are still very hard to find (except for Stay Hungry.) The remastered versions feature bonus tracks and expanded liner notes, so they are obviously the definitive versions of the albums, and the ones I recommend buying.
Love may be for suckers, but this album is for any eighties metal fan who wants to rock out. It's just a shame a band with such potential didn't get any recognition for this album, and was forced to disband not long after (the band has since reunited, though.) If you're new to Twisted Sister, get Stay Hungry first. But if you're already a tried and true fan, Love Is For Suckers is a worthwhile purchase. Don't overlook it the way so many other fans have!
Best album Twisted Sisters ever came out with!!.......1998-10-30
Thia album is problably better, more so NOW, than when it was first released! It is a must buy!!!
It's the best Twisted album..........1998-09-12
The cd was the Twisted's Best...Very nice and with a good rock and roll quality
it surprised me.......1998-08-24
This album was one of twisted sisters best album they ever made. The olny problem was the timing of the release. The song are good and in the case of waking the sleeping giant they are great. it is an album that should be bought and listened to on a regular basis if you are a twisted sister fan.

Album Description
Released in 1987, Love Is For Suckers takes its cue from the cock-rock, pop-metal explosion happening at the time. But despite the obvious influence of this trend, the band retains it's heavy sound. 'Wake Up (The Sleeping Giant)' is a fist-pumping, angry tune given an added boost by new drummer Joey Franco, who's heavy pounding is reminiscent of John Bonham's. 'Hot Love' has a Madonna-like feel to it, but with heavy guitars instead of the dance beat one might expect from the pop diva. The title track is a humorous, tongue-in-cheek cut, while 'Tonight' and 'Me And The Boys' are two anthemic singalongs made for cruising to that all important arena show with your buddies. 'You Are All That I Need' is an excellent power ballad written by Dee Snider to his wife Suzette. Along with remastered sound, Spitfire has reissued Suckers with four bonus tracks. The rockin' double-time 'Feel Appeal' possibly refers to a groupie, while 'Statutory Date' says jail time is a small price to pay for an occasional act of imprudent indulgence. Demolition. 2006.
