2 out of 5 stars Can't Believe How EXPENSIVE this album GOT!!!.......2005-10-11

I remember buying this album back in the day...yes, back in 1985. The cover and overall artwork pointed at some sort of aggressive metal. After all, METALLICA was getting big and changing the way metal should be played. Even the cover is a bit reminiscent of 'tallica's "Ride The Lightning". So what did I get? Basically TNT were a glam metal band with some decent guitar playing and a flirt with power metal. The songs are average to say the least and in one song they completely ripped ACCEPT's "Balls To The Wall" riff! From what I recall, only "Deadly Metal" was somewhat above average (at least compared to the rest of the album). TNT had neither the class of a JUDAS PRIEST or an IRON MAIDEN, nor the newfound edge of newcommers like ANTHRAX and METALLICA. They weren't even THAT "glam" for the hair crowd either, so they kind of disappeared from the public eye. Production wise, I must confess that it sounds pretty full and coincides with what was being produced by commercial metal bands of the time. I understand some of the reviews here but I take them as pure nostalgia. What caught me off guard was the sheer expensiveness of this CD edition. I remember getting RID of my vinyl album pretty quick. This album should only be purchased for nostalgic reasons or if you find it at the "on sale" bin at your nearest AMOEBA record store. Otherwise, steer clear from this below par metal band.

5 out of 5 stars TNT at their best.......2005-06-28

Could not be better. Harnell singing is incredible and the guitar playing is remarkable. This is what 80s metal was all about

3 out of 5 stars A Mixed Bag.......2004-12-14

A very good english debut album.
There are excellent tracks like - Knights of the Thunder, Seven Seas, Break the Ice, Tor with the Hammer, and Eddie.
But the others have quality of below average.

3 out of 5 stars An Almost Explosive Debut.......2004-12-07

Knights of the New Thunder was the first international release by the Norwegian metal band TNT. They released an earlier album in their home country with Norwegian lyrics that did not sell well and led to some line-up changes including the entrance of lead vocalist Tony Harnell. Harnell has a wide vocal range. He can sing at a medium range such as the verse on "Knight of the Thunder," but he can also manage Helloween's Michael Kiske-like wails on "Eddie" and Rob Halford screams on "Deadly Metal." His voice may not be quite as powerful as those two singers, but it is far better than most of the vocalists in the hair metal bands that flooded the mid to late 1980s. The musicianship of TNT is also among the best in metal and with some interesting tracks, Knights of the New Thunder released in 1984 is one of the better hair metal albums.

It starts out with the catchy "Seven Seas." "Ready to Leave" is only average and is followed by the short instrumental "Klassik Romance." "Last Summer's Evil" is my favorite track on the album. It rocks with a very addictive verse. "Without Your Love" is the typical sappy ballad that a lot of metal bands felt they had to have. Unfortunately, this one is sappier than most. The second side (or half) starts off with the butt kickin' "Break the Ice." It is one of the more accessible songs on the album. "Eddie" is interesting and actually rather amusing. It has a pleasant tune but the lyrics are morbid: "Eddie likes torture and pain...Eddie's got a twisted brain." The irony between the music and lyrics is almost silly. TNT tries to go more Judas Priest power metal on the next two tracks "USA" and "Deadly Metal" (especially the latter). It just does not work. They do better on the more complex track "Knights of the Thunder," although a part of it is taken from Accept's "Balls to the Wall" (I'm not sure who borrowed from whom, but the latter is more well-known and the one I heard first). In sum, Knights of the New Thunder has its moments. TNT can really rock on such catchy tracks as "Break the Ice" and "Last Summer's Evil" and they offer more interesting tracks than other hair metal bands of the time such as "Knights..." On the hair metal spectrum it is above average; however, on the spectrum of metal in general, it is just ordinary.

5 out of 5 stars Quality, Polished, Guitar-driven Metal from the 80's.......2004-10-20

This band rocks. I saw them on MTV late one night (back when MTV focused only on music, before they became a propaganda machine for the political Left), went out and bought the album, and have loved it ever since!

Tony Harnell is operatically trained and has an amazing range, clear enunciation, and adequate (but not over-the-top) emotion/passion in his singing. Ronnie Le Tekro is perhaps the most underrated and unknown guitar hero of the 80's. He writes killer riffs, has excellent tone (clean!), and possesses one of the most accurate speed-picking talents in the world. The rhythm section is more than adequate on this album.

Standouts include the power rock of Seven Seas and Knights of the Thunder, the beautiful tone and picking of Klassisk Romance, one of the best ballads of all time in Lost Without Your Love, the haunting guitars of Eddie, and the high energy of Deadly Metal.

TNT should have been a household name in the US in the 80's, but sadly here, sometimes talent takes a back seat to payoffs, "who you know in the business," the latest gimmick, and the whim of the talentless masses who jump on the bandwagon every chance they get.

Their loss, my gain, and your gain too, if you buy this CD.
