Customer Reviews:
A fitting masterpiece collection .......2007-06-10
As a longtime Swervedriver fan, I of course was very excited when I heard this was coming out. I would easily rank them as one of the greatest and most innovative bands in rock n roll history. It is a bold statement, but few have broke new ground in such a way. The Beatles, Jimi, Pink Floyd, The Clash and yes Swervedriver have made modern music much more interesting. Anyone reading this that hasn't listened to Swervedriver should at least give this or any album a try. For Swervie fans, there are many unreleased gems to find to get you humming new songs. Well worth it to buy a few of these other songs again from past albums. Adam Franklin(lead singer/songwriter) has been playing solo acoustic shows lately and recording under the name Toshack Highway, you should definitely check it out!
Just the extra tracks alone are worth the perchase.......2007-05-04
If you want to get a great sample of the Swervy sound and awesome rare tracks to boot grab this Double album. It covers thier whole catalog quite well even though its missing some real killer tracks, but as a sample it is a good mix overall. Read the other reviews here for the blow by blow, because they have done a bang up job of it there is no need for me to say what they have already. Swervedriver just Rocks in a way that no other band has before or after them so pick this up and enjoy.
Every song crashes deliciously!.......2007-03-21
I love this compilation. I know that some choice morsels are missing here, but, unlike a lot of "greatest hits" collections, this really is quite comprehensive. It's nice to be able to hear the progression of the band through the different eras of Swervedriver on these disks. The term "shoegazer" may fit their onstage persona, but it doesn't do them justice, as their music reminds me of a road movie...free and without agenda.
Worth shelling out money for even if you already own all of Swervedriver's albums.......2007-02-16
If there was ever a band which deserved far better than it got, Swervedriver is it. They never succeeded in breaking with the general public, and for that matter, even within the underground/indie scene I don't think they got quite as much recognition as they should have. Part of the reason was that they weren't easy to pigeonhole. They were neither pure shoegazer/indie nor pure hard rock, but combined the best elements of both genres. And the band's consistently awful luck with record labels didn't help either, proof positive that there's no God out there.
Even if you already have all of Swervedriver's CDs, and although this 2-CD retrospective ain't exactly cheap, it's still worth getting for a couple of reasons. One, the songs have all been remastered for this CD, and if any band deserves that kind of extra boost in their sound, it's Swervedriver. Two, many of the tracks on this CD are not album cuts but oddities and B-sides that didn't appear on any proper Swervedriver releases, and many of those songs are just as good as any of the songs on the band's proper album releases.
Obviously, as a double-CD best-of retrospective, it's meant to be an introduction to people just getting into Swervedriver. But really, you need to have all of their albums INCLUDING this one. If you're just getting into Swervedriver for the first time and you're thinking you need to start with a greatest-hits compilation, by all means start here. But sure as hell don't stop here.
Wicked........2007-01-04
Swervedriver remain one of the greatest, and most underrated, bands of the 90's.
I've never understood why they were lumped in the "shoegazer" bag, maybe because they were signed to Creation, along with Ride and others?
They do the shoe thing, but are so much more. I'd call it widescreen-space-rock, it rocks hard but is also hypnotic through it's exploration of noise. Most of their best tracks don't follow conventional song structures, but are driven by melody and vibe.
This compilation has everything, from those wanting a foot in the door, to veterans who already have their LPs.
It contains all their best tracks and a load of very good B-Sides, plus some cool alternate takes on existing tunes.
I can't recommend this enough. Buy it.

GOODBYE -COLUMBIA.......2006-01-18
YUO KNOW EVER TIME I THINK ABOUT FRANK MARINO I THINK WHAT IDOTS CBS RECORDS MUST OF HAD WORKING FOR THEM AT THAT TIME. THIS IS FRANKS LAST RECORD ON THE CBS RECORD LABEL AND HAS THE ONLY SONG THAT EVER GOT COMMERCIAL AIRPLAY STRANGE DREAMS AND I REMEMBER THINKING FINALLY!!! OF COURSE AFTER THAT CBS AND FRANK HAD SOME KIND OF DISPUTE AND WELL THE REST IS HISTORY. I WAS ONLY ABLE TO ACQUIRE THIS CD AFTER YEARS OF SEARCHING AND THEN ALONG CAME THE INTERNET AND THANK GOODNESS SOMEONE IN GERMANY HAD SAW FIT TO RE-RELEASE THIS MAGNIFICENT CD. SOMETIMES I AM GALD THAT FRANK LEFT CBS BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY TREATED HIM BUT I ALSO WONDER HOW FAR THIS TALENTED INDIVIDUAL COULD HAVE SAILED WITH THE BACKING OF THE MUSIC INDUSTRY. THIS GUY IS IN A LEAGUE ALL HIS OWN- NO HENDRIX COMPARISON OR TROWER HERE -HE IS A VIRTUOSO THAT RANKS WITH STEVIE VIA AND SATRINIA -EVEN THEN I THINK MAYBE BETTER??? YES ABSOULUTELY. FRANK FINALLY FOUND SOME ENTERPRISNG CANADIANS THAT FINANCED EYE OF THE STORM AND WELL AFTER HEARING THAT CD I KNOW THIS GUY HAS TRANSCENDED ANOTHER PLANE AND HAS MATURED HIS SOUND INTO SOMETHING ALMOST EPHERIAL. COLUMBA'S LOSS OUR GAIN- FRANK RULES NOW AND FOREVER !!!!AND HE CAN MAKE YOU FEEL ALRIGHT
Forgotten Masterpiece.......2005-05-15
It is so typical to do away with the great ideas. That's what you got here: Marino tearing it up
I was a senior in High school and this was what got me through; Fond memories. Frank never got the long-lasting recognition as an axe-master. He's brilliant and can sweep up with the best of them. The music on this album is very melodic.it's not an intsrumental. I like Frank's voice very much and the band he has with him plays excellent
Classic and Timeless Album from a True Master - Frank Marino.......2005-05-01
I have always loved Frank Marino, have all of his albums on Vinyl and a couple on CD too. I have seen him live a few times and his shows have been Brilliant to say the least.
From all his albums, I love Juggernaut the most because it says a lot of things that I feel deep down inside and the Music created collectively by the whole band and especially the Genius Guitar Playing by our Dear Frank is just simply amazing.
I wish I could get hold of a few hundred copies of Juggernaut and the other Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush albums so that I could promote and sell the albums in my Music Shop. There is No Greater Feeling in my mind than selling an album I really believe in, like Juggernaut to the whole world!
Love You Frank Marino - You Are The Best and to hell with the Media who insult and mock you, what do they know?!! God Bless You Frank Marino & Mahohany Rush.
Love

Amazing Guitar Work.......2005-04-04
This album blew my mind after enjoying his earlier vinyls. A sharp, edgy, definitive style, I feel Frank Marino is highly underated. Case and point; listen to any of his live music. I once read he learned his unique style of playing from Jimi Hendrix while the former was in a coma. Interesting....
Frank Marino bliss!!.......2003-02-04
This is one of his signature albums which he has continued to honor live. "Strange Dreams" is a classic song with a slight hypnotic flavor. I remember when this song got played on the radio back in '82. Great CD start to finish. If you like Jimi Hendrix, Pat Travers, and Robin Trower I can't see how you wouldn't like this and so much more of Frank's work. Frank can go from heavy metal to jazz and blow you away at both ends of the spectrum! Check out "Double Live". There is a great live version of Strange Dreams on it also. As you will see on this website, almost all of the reviews for Frank's albums have 5 stars. There is good reason for this.

Swinging doesn't get much better.......2007-05-12
This record features some of the finest charts Hefti wrote for the Basie band, extremely well played by an established band. If you've heard the Basie recordings of these charts (as I have) you will notice some stark stylistic differences. But these interpretations compare very well with the Basie records, and the soloists are top-notch. Highly recommended.
I have to agree..........2007-04-22
with the other reviewers. What a fantastic CD! Great tunes, superb arrangements, terrific solos, and a tight, kicking band. The Frank Capp Juggernaut is the best band I've heard since Woody Herman's best Herds; and they play with that same powerful, rhythmically precise but swinging sound. This is a CD to own and listen to over and over. Get it!
The best big band recording I own........2007-01-11
Yes, and I have hundreds. But these are the tightest, best performances ever and all Neal Hefti to boot. Basie must be lovin' it. Li'L Darlin' slow with spaces, and Teddy the Toad just ribbits along.
One look at the list of musicians and your wonder will cease and your interest will go through the roof! If you like big band jazz, this album will knock your socks off and then some.
true music.......1999-05-20
This CD takes a pure form of music and makes it even more purely music--no pretense, no idealism...just music that will make you melt.
Absolutely thrilling.......1999-03-31
I am a professional musician and I have several Neal Hefti recordings. This one is one of my two favorites. The opening number, 'I'm Shouting Again", is absolutely thrilling. My musically inclined five-year-old squeals with delight and asks for the tune over and over.

Album Description
Snog is back doing what he does best: electronic music with political and anti-capitalist ideologies. Leaving behind the spaghetti western style that was prevalent in his last album, "Beyond The Valley Of The Proles", Snog has regained the signature sound he's been known for since his birth in the early '90s. This record is a musical exploration through the problems affecting society through the exploitation of mass media and utilization of disinformation as directed by political initiatives. Interesting electronic sequences are complimented by intriguing lyrics and wrapped around varying beat structures to create Snog's most accessible and well-balanced album to date.
Customer Reviews:
Welcome to planet SNOG!.......2007-06-30
Another political and anti-capitalsim work of musical art by the intellectual electro pop band SNOG. This album, like most SNOG albums, brings balls out humour to serious subjects in dark and yet pop beat style. The music of SNOG is verry hard to categorize,...spaghetti western/electro-pop/industrial/experimental/...???? Any of those will work depending on what song your playing. David Thrussel, the genuis and creator of SNOG, brings some of the boldest lyrics you've ever heard, and he does it in a verry entertaining fashion. Below are examples of the lyrics from each song.
1. "king of hate" -
some shelter in a monastery study dusty books
others wear a badge and pretend that they're not the crooks
2. "crash crash" -
suckin' black blood suckin' black blood under the hood
suckin' black blood under the hood never understood
3. "bourgeois" -
you really get up my nose your so fu***n' bourgeois
4. "turn on your brain baby" -
filthy faecal logs spewing through the pipe
spewing through the pipe they run your life
5. "planet of sh**" -
see the drones, see the proles
see the t.v. slaves down on their knees
ready to be saved by a machine that is nothing but lies and hate
they got their seats they just can't wait
6. "on the rise" -
abbadon is on the rise
moloch is on the rise
7. "neighbour of the beast" -
i shake hands with the beast i make plans with the beast
get tanned with the beast and i'm damned by the beast
8. "poison" -
took my craft for a spin the other day we cruised past the milky way
said to the creature 'oh, my friend...i fear this might be the end'
9. "the desease" -
one weeks it's bombs
another it's britney
10. "don't go down to the woods today" -
don't go down to the mail today it's all zombies anyway
glassy eyed they stare at the tube believe any carp that comes through
11. "destroyer" -
the postman brought some sad news today
the human race has raced away
12. "al qaeda is your best friend" -
when your down in the polls they'll drop a bomb
when your story's full of holes they'll drop a bomb
when there is an election or any kind of trouble
i'll place bets they'll arive at the double
13. "the de-evolutionaries" -
oh take me to your saviour
if i'm mad will i get good behaviour
if i'm bad will i taste failure
14. "a hymn for the fascist republic" -
the wells dry up the kill off begins
distraction and disinformation allow the elete to prevail
ghettos swell while gated communities become fortesses
SNOG VRS. THE FAECAL JUGGERNAUT OF MASS CULTURE
snog is BACK!.......2006-12-28
i was really nervous about getting this album when i saw it at my local (now defunct) tower records. although i really enjoyed "beyond the valley of the proles" from a lyrical standpoint, i found myself getting bored with the folk/acustic style music. i feared that this type of sound was what snog was going to go for from now on. luckily i was wrong. the Faecal Juggernaut is a brilliant punk/electronic album, that proves Snog can do it all. the lyrics are as subversive and punk as they come, and the music reminds me of some of the best tracks Snog has done since their earliest albums. amazing album in every sense, Snog isn't your typical band. they write songs with a very punk ethic- anti-establishment, anti-govt., anti-media, instead of the typical industrial self-loathing and hatred. get this album and soak in the sarcasm, fun, and anger of one of the greatest bands to come out of australia!
A Masterpiece!.......2006-05-18
SNOG are pioneering legends of Australian underground electro. They surface from their bunker to release their new album "Snog Vs. The Faecal Juggernaut Of Mass Culture". Is this record the most angry "electronic" and yet darkly humourous album ever recorded? Forget Alec Empire... forget T. Raumschmiere, SNOG is pure PUNK ethos over a groovey beat. All the spit and bile of Mr. Johnny Rotten delivered with the Cabaret style of a Dysfunctional Lee Hazlewood. Old-school Electro sequences, Glam-Rock guitars and one of the most truly subversive albums you are ever likely to hear.
A masterpiece.
Snog - doing what it does best..........2006-05-16
In this newest attempt to battle the corporate world, you get a clash between "Buy me, I'll Change Your Life" and "Beyond the Valley of the Proles" The music style here has evolved, if you keep in mind that Snog's music is fused with humor and satire. Don't expect the agressive tunes from the past such as "Dear Valued Customer" or "Cliche."

Live Big Band with Joe Williams.......2002-05-08
Not too much additional can be said that wasn't covered by beeper99 in the earlier writeup. I also had this originally on vinyl and I also believe that "Joe's Blues" is one of the best cuts ever recorded by Joe Williams. Joe was in great form that night....probably in the best period of his magnificent career!
The other cuts are very good..... the band was really cooking that night. Another highlight of the session was Benny Carter's "Souvenir" with the solo by the great alto saxist Marshal Royal.
Contains one of Joe William's greatest tracks.......2000-09-04
I picked up the lp version of this CD when it was orginally issued back in 1978. The main reason for purchassing was a recommendation by the now defunct "Stereo Review" magazine, which called the track, "Joe's Blues" one of the greatest moments in the career of Joe Williams. I agree with this assessment wholeheartedly. While the entire disc is enjoyable, this one track makes this a CD for the ages. Because of the way it is labled, this CD is hard to find in most computer files. But I hope others will come across this review or the CD and add this outing to their collection. I am truly glad I am able to add it to my CD collection.

A good start.......2006-01-28
Let me explain why i gave this release 3 stars, because i really do love the album, however there are a few flaws with it.
As some may have said, the vocals in some songs aren't that great, while in others his aggression and singing can be heard clearly how it should be. The music is pretty well mixed, however i find that i need to sometimes adjust the settings on my car stereo to listen to this cd correctly like other cds.
Ok, back to the point. The electronics in this cd are simply dazzling. The layers upon layers of synths and effects, which are very original sounding, only add to this band's heavy rock backdrop. This band also puts on a good live show, and plays these songs pretty much exactly how they sound here. So expect nothing less.
If the samples turn you onto the band, i suggest buying this album. If you can't stand the vocals, well don't give up on them yet. As i said, this cd is a good start, a good debut. Their new album coming out this year, Unsaved, so far sounds like a giant leap forward in recording quality. Also, it sounds like Dearborn has improved his singing ability. I am looking forward to that. For now, check out this release, there should be something you like.
Great music, crappy vocals.......2005-10-19
If there were a version of this CD with just the music and no vocals, it would be a kickass 5-star album. Their lead singer simply sucks. It hurt me to hear him botch Send Me An Angel like he did, especially since I love the synth/bass/hard rock beats they put with it (for a truly awesome version of this song, see Eurotrash by Zeromancer). Same goes for most of the songs on this CD - They have kickass beats but that guy's voice drags it down. Even so, a good industrial rock CD, worth buying if you can get it for cheap.
Amazing...finally someone to carry the torch for industrial music has arrived...........2005-09-25
With Marilyn Manson retiring and Nine Inch Nails not too far behind, it looked to me like industrial music was about to disappear (at least any good industrial music). Then I heard a couple of songs by this band on Chronix Aggression, and I was very impressed. I got the album and I love every single song, 10 of 10 for every song. The top tracks are Just Like You, with its mocking guitar line that is eerily like Manson and the profane lyrics, Your Fiend with the slow driving beat reminiscent of Nine Inch Nails and the overtly sexual lyrics, and then the best song on the album Where The Beauty Ends which is very dark and the lyrics are amazing. These guys are more than capable of carrying the torch for industrial, they are not metal by the way there is too much distortion for them to be a metal band in my opinion. Pick this up now, these guys are amazing.
full-blown hunger from just a taste.......2005-02-23
i had downloaded some of the tracks from their site, and thought that the cd would be a worthwhile one. obviously, i liked all the songs that i downloaded, and the others were quite nice as well. this is one band that i wouldn't mind seeing live, and from the pics on the site, i would have one hell of a time. i am looking forward to their sophomore album.
I Gambled and Won with this one.......2005-01-13
This cd was a gamble for me. I'm usually into pure hardcore metal. But this cd caught my attention. I listened to the samples they had on there site. I liked what I heard. But I had no idea what the rest of the cd would sound like. So, I went ahead and bought it. I put in my cd player and turned up the volume. Wow, I was stunned. For not even being the pure super hardcore sound that I'm use to listening to. I really liked what I heard. Personal favorite tracks are: Send me and Angel, Therapy scares me, Normal. Great cd!

Customer Reviews:
The 2nd best! This album rox!.......2004-08-23
The Meatmen always change thier sound but this 80's rock lineup pulled it off bad assly. Songs like Turo Rock/Centurions of Rome and of course the title track are so awesome...good heavy rock N roll. Tesco in a fresh(at the time) line up with good songs....get this and gonzo hate vibe....essential cds!
Party Rowdy Rockem'Sockem sounds.......2004-07-08
In 1986 when the rest of the conformist world was oohing and aahing over hair-bands like Posison, Bon Jovi and Whitesnake, hordes of zit-faced so-called non-conformists jumped on the Megadeath/Metallica bandwagon and thought that they had found true alternative hard-rock. Somewhere, lurking in the background was a creative lunatic named Tesco Vee who managed to restructure a Black Flag-esque group called the Meatmen with 4 top-notch musicians. This restructuring gave him a vehicle to present his irreverent poetry with unbridled musical clarity.
The sound of the Meatmen, which Vee himself had called part of the "Psychodelic/Death-Rock/Comedy Genre", really had no generic boundaries. Unfortunatly, that sound was fleeting; beginning with 1985's "War of the Superbikes" and culminating with "Rock and Roll Juggernaut" in 1986; which is probably one of the best albums of all time (no joke, up there with Physical Graffiti...don't believe me get the album if you can).
In terms of song structure and lyrics, you might have called the Meatmen, circa the "Juggernaut" album, the "Gwar of the 80's". Although with a team of musicans consisting of Lyle Preslar (lead guitar), James Cooper (rythym guitar), Graham McCulloch (bass) and Eric Zelzdor (drums), the sound is much "cleaner" than modern death-metal.
The vocals are never muddled and the mix job brings out the the subtleties of each instrument. This is especially apparent when Preslar's crispy lead guitar-work cuts in and out like a knife over McCulloch's funky/robotic bass riff in "Turbo Rock". Preslar's extended solo on the title track "Rock and Roll Juggernaut" is also incredible and remniscent of the late Randy Rhodes in that he jumps from doing blindingly fast harmonic minor arrpagio-type licks to grinding penatonics.
Juggernaut begins with a clever title track that is fast and furious and an ode to the band itself and continues to sustain the pace throughout most of the album. There is an aggressive rage in much of the music, but it's not the pretentious teenage-agnst rage that Cobain reaccquainted the musically starved public of the 90's with. Instead, the general musical rage on Juggernaut is akin to being harrassed by an obnoxious drunken pirate named Tesco.
While many people criticized Vee for being politically-incorrect in the "Hip to Be Square 80's", his lyrics on Juggernaut are almost compassionate in comparison to many of todays artists such as Snoop Dogg. Vee's lyrics are misogynistic, he likes drugs, cars, weird sex, and endorses violence (arguably) with his tounge-in-cheek. Hey, so, if you think Huey Lewis is "rockin'" stay the hell away from Juggernaut.
It's hard to say how much influence the Meatmen had on the Musical world, as I know only about 7 people who have this album. They are all musicans. I wrote to Vee personally in 1996 to obtain this CD and he was cool as hell about it and sold me a copy. I hear that the album is now out of print. As the Meatmen's best venture, I hope it does not fade into obscurity. It's a must for aspiring guitar players.
prepubescent punk pranksters.......2000-01-10
Those with no sense of humor need not apply. Throw out the PCisms and party with the irreverent imps of punkdom. Hard driving melodies mix with George Carlinesque lyrics to product a disgustingly delicious "pie in the face" to all that is holy.
lilies that fester smell far worse than weeds...this is fun!.......1999-12-17
This is the second-best The Meatmen have offered to date. After you procure a copy of War Of The Superbikes, grab this one! This one has more of a metal edge than their earlier efforts, but it survives the test of time better than their less-disciplined debut. The first six songs are a riot, with absolutely brilliant lyrics for the genre. As dumb as he acted, Tesco Vee was/is an extremely intelligent man. As far as those who were around the clubs in the 80's are generally concerned, The Meatmen died after We're The Meatmen & You Still Suck. Track 3, Centurions Of Rome, may be their finest moment. Guitarist Lyle Preslar(Minor Threat) seems to have his tongue firmly planted in cheek with this one, but, then again, The Meatmen usually did. The original album came with a lyric sheet, this doesn't. However, you do get Rock N Roll Juggernaut-The True Story, a collection of hilarious radio ads for the album(previously only available on flexi-disc). The best show I ever saw in the 80's was at the Metroplex in Atlanta....It was the Meatmen, and it was the tour for this album. I used to only listen to side one, which is why I've deducted two stars. Tracks 7-9 are very weak. The total experience is well worth your time and money. Oddly enough, this cd is remastered. Get War Of The Superbikes & then get hip to this.
This album was and still is awesome........1999-11-28
If you're in your mid to late twenties, then you're down with how great this album was when it came out. I haven't heard it in years, ever since I lost the tape. Just got it again on CD and I must say it's still in my top ten of all time. Right ON!

Title says it all........2006-03-24
When I read the description to the title track, Juggernaut, I understood. Not only does the piece Juggernaut fit the descriptive title, an unstoppable force, but all the pieces on this CD are played with the same energy.
