Excellent!!!.......2007-08-02
Excellent transaction. Would not hesitate to buy again from this seller. Product was delivered promptly and as described.
good memories for me and fun "new" songs for my children.......2007-06-27
We had ordered this for "The Dukes of Hazzard" theme song for our 4yr old and our whole family has fallen in love with the cd. It makes me want to share some of the old fun and simple shows with my children. I forgot about some of those shows. It brings back good memories for my husband and me and the songs are new and exciting for our children. It's a nice change from children's cd's, but our children still think it's fun. The sound quality is good and the songs included on the cd are a great mix. I would definately recommend this one.

TV Theme Songs.......2007-01-13
This is a great CD for people who watch a lot of TV -especially TV LAND and reruns of old shows when shows had actual theme songs. I took the CD to work and everyone loved trying to figure out what show the songs were from.
TV themes.......2006-07-05
Not all what I expected, not all of the tunes are the original recordings you remember as the TV themes.

Customer Reviews:
Another average disc from WASP.......2007-07-02
Somewhere along the way Blackie Lawless decided he'd written enough songs that he could simply recycle the same ones over and over again rather than write anything that sounded new & different. Some bands can do that and retain record sales & critical praise (AC/DC, for instance), while most find themselves a niche audience that dwindles progressively. I'd say WASP is an example of the latter.
I think WASP evolved with each record up through The Headless Children, the band's 4th disc. After that came The Crimson Idol, and though many love that record (good for them), I think that was the beginning of Blackie's seemingly endless song recycling period. Too many of the songs on The Crimson Idol sound exactly the same: same chord progression, same drum beats & fills, even the same melody, just different words. From there it's been one re-hash after another. Dominator is the latest in the series.
Mercy, the lead track, is the best of the bunch. Heaven's Hung in Black seems to be a favorite among reviews I've read, but it pales in comparison to the "ballads" on other WASP discs. Deal with the Devil, the last track, sounds out of place on this album. It's the only track that features departed guitarist Darrell Roberts, so my guess would be that this is an older track that was thrown on to fill out the album.
I do give Blackie credit for at least one thing: the guy continues to churn out album after album, while many of his 80's metal counterparts have but half the catalog WASP has amassed. And even though I think the bulk of these albums are average, for some reason a I keep buying each one. Gotta give Blackie credit for that, too.
Just like the old days.......2007-06-21
I've been a fan of W.A.S.P. for nearly a year now. I had alot of catching up to do with their music since I was born in 92. Their first 4 albums were incredibly good. The crimson Idol was ok. then I saw that most of their releases throughout the 90's sucked except for K.F.D and Helldorado. The neon God stuff was geniously well written and had a really good storyline, but it sounded bad. I became very disappoined with the band and started wondering if they would ever get their original sound back. then I heard the preview on their website for the song called the burning man. MY HOPE RETURNED TO ME. This cd captures the raw sound of W.A.S.P. AND the lighter side of them as well. out of all of the songs, there is only 1 that I don't like. it's called heavens blessed. it's ok, but theres something about it that I just don't like too much. If you have been spacing out and not paying attention to W.A.S.P. anymore because of their bad releases, It's time to take some Ritalin and go buy this IMMEDIATLEY!!!!!! don't get me wrong, it's not a copy of their old stuff. it has a VERY SLIGHT modern sound. but it deserves to be put in the well respected category of original W.A.S.P.. It's right up there with, W.A.S.P., The Last Command, Inside The Electric Circus, and The Headless Children.
Mercy, is a heavy song but it's catchy as well. It sounds a bit like the song Wild Child.
Then we get to, long way to go. at the beginning of the song, you think that the devil is talking to you. Blackie has a demonic sounding voice in this song, along with great lyrics.
Take me up is a very emotional(but not sad or depressing like the modern music of today) song that will make you wonder if you really bought a W.A.S.P. cd. only makes you wonder because it's so soft. But then it gets a little heavier and the song builds itself up until the Chorus. It's such an incredible song.
After that there is the burning man. It's my favorite song on the cd. It's fast but not too fast, it's catchy, it's loud, it's got life to it, and the lyrics are strikingly powerful and well written. I think this, along with take me up and heavens hung in black, are the best songs on the cd. all the rest of the songs still kick massive amounts of @$$.
Then there is heavens hung in black. It's a very good song which shows the conversation between St.Peter and a dead soldier killed in Iraq. the soldier goes to Heaven and finds that there is no more room because of so many people being killed, so he can't come in. the chorus is the soldier talking.
After that, you have heavens blessed. I, personally don't like the song too much. It sounds good but for some reason, when i listen to it, i don't like it. But you might.
After that is teacher. Another good song with catchy melodies and cool lyrics.
Heavens hung in black reprise. Not too much to say about this song. It's cool. It's basically heavens hung in black but theres something alittle different about it.
After that is deal with the devil. Consider this like a bonus track. Right when you think that the cd has closed itself up with the H.H.I.B. reprise, you hear this wild sounding adventure of a song pounding through your speakers. It makes you wonder what the next album will be like.
hell, this entire cd makes you wonder what the next album will be like. Probably even better and closer sounding to old W.A.S.P. than this album is. I hope this helped you and sorry it's so long.
blackie for president.......2007-06-19
This is w.a.s.p where they first started. These songs are lot like his older stuff which is great!!.Blackie is one of my favorites of all times.
It's too bad ozzy does'nt put him in the ozzfest.I think he would steal
the show.Blackie forever!!
A Resounding YES!!!!.......2007-06-04
This album is GREAT from start to finish!! Blackie is the real deal!! He's one of the only rockers out there that still has the balls to say what he thinks without apology. I love the abusive relationship/America policing the world analogy.
Enough of my prattle... I think Sara C.'s review really nails it on the head so I won't ramble on.
The Next Chapter..........2007-05-28
After nearly a month owning this album, I feel it is now time to write a review on it. After countless listens I finally have a feel for what this album is about.
Many people were somewhat dissapointed with W.A.S.P.'s last release of the double concept album "The Neon God." and for that reason, many people had doubts about this album as well. Where could Blackie and the boys go from there? Are their best days behind them? All that and many more questions were raised. Once the track listing for "Dominator" was released, the concern right away was the length of the album. Now, getting into the meat of the album, the length isn't that big of a deal in my opinion. Here is a track-by-track synopsis of "Dominator."
1. Mercy - This is the perfect quintessential W.A.S.P. way to begin an album. The listener quickly identifies with the W.A.S.P. way of song writing and is not overwhelmed. A heavy, rocking song to get the listener pumped and ready for the rest of the ride. Very reminiscent of say, their song "Tormentor" from their debut album. 4/5
2. Long Long Way To Go - A pretty heavy riff to begin the song. Again, the band doesn't really venture into new territories here, but the song is a good and heavy rocking track. Chorus can be a bit repetitive but the guitar work more than makes up for that. 3.5/5
3. Take Me Up - This song took me a few listens to really grab and hold it. Starts soft and makes you think it's going to be a ballad; then the classic W.A.S.P. riffs come in. Dark lyrics thast are also very mylodic, which is what we've all come to expect from Blackie and his song writing. This has become one of my favorites on the album. 4.5/5
4. The Burning Man - This is my favorite track on the album. Killer lyrics, classic guitar playing, and just an overall catchy song that keeps you rocking. Blackie seems to put forth every emotion into this song. 5/5
5. Heaven's Hung In Black - This track has gotten a lot of attention from W.A.S.P. fans as it is deemed one of the best ballad-type songs Blackie has ever written. Although I like the song, and the message behind it is also clear, I feel it doesn't do anything different from previous W.A.S.P. "ballads." Think "Forever Free" on their Headless Children album and you can pretty m,uch understand this song as well. It does have an awesome intro though with one of the countries best patriotic tunes ever. Great song that is one of their best, but in rhe end, isn't really anything different. 4.5/5
6. Heaven's Blessed - At first glance it seems like it could be another ballad to continue the previous track, but this is hardly the case. This song is heavy and really pulls no punches. The message is also loud and clear and Blackie again pours every raw emotion into his singing and lyrics. 4/5
7. Teacher - In my opinion the weakest song on the album. It took me a few listens to get what this song was trying to say. After I figured it out I can see that it does fit with the overall theme of the album, but it feels rushed and poorly placed within the track listing. I say if it was put earlier in the album, (3rd or 4th track) it would have a bigger impact and not feel so rushed but after the previous two tracks it seems a bit out of place. 3.5/5
8. Heaven's Hung In Black [Reprise] - In my opinion this is a good soft track, but I can also say that there really was no need for the Reprise. I would have maybe included this track as a bonus acoustic version at the end of the album. Where it is placed seems a bit random and kills the rocking mood a little bit before the end of the album. If it had been included as a bonus track, it would have opened room for another heavy song to keep the mood somewhat consistent. 3.5/5
9. Deal With The Devil - Some have said that this song is out of place and doesn't really belong on this album. I disagree. After hearing the album many times and coming to the understanding of the overall theme, I can say that I believe it fits perfectly. Coming off the heels of the [Reprise] it may feel and seem out of place but after a few listens it does gel. A rocking, heavy, classic W.A.S.P. tune to end an album that is just shy of 45 minutes in length. 4/5
There you have it. The album may be a bit on the short side compared to most albums now-a-days, but considering the message Blackie aimed to portray in this album, what's on there says it all. I highly recommend this album for any and all W.A.S.P. fans as Blackie and the boys show that they still got it! Never Say Die!

Compilation.......2007-01-12
I was looking for their greatest hits or both albums on cd. Some sellers wanted more for one than you can get this set for. This is the way to go if you plan on getting both.
awesome buy!!.......2006-01-27
Since this a two disc set, I'll divide my review into two sections:
W.A.S.P.:
This is a very strong start for the band. "I Wanna Be Somebody" is the first track and grabs you by the throat. Another great highlight is "School Daze." Anyone who spent time in a public school system can relate to it. "L.O.V.E. Machine"
is another great classic. It's very catchy. All the other songs are great, but don't seem to be much different lyrically from other 80's metal bands witht he exception of the last two tracks. "Tormentor" is catchy, but not really that good. "The Torture Never Stops" is a great closer.
The Last Command:
It's a great follow up. In fact, W.A.S.P. takes it up a notch with songs like "Ballcrusher" and "Sex Drive." You'll also find great ones like "Blind in Texas," "The Last Command,"
and "Running Wild In the Streets." Those three manage to catch the power and attitude of the band while at the same time remaing air play friendly.
Overall, it's really a good way to introduce yourself to W.A.S.P.
Go for it!
W.A.S.P. - 'W.A.S.P. / The Last Command' (Recall) 2-CD.......2005-12-29
An absolute must-have 2-CD reissue of W.A.S.P.'s first two albums. No bonus tracks added, simply the original lp's material only.Disc one is their '84 self-titled debut with scorchers like "I Wanna Be Somebody","L.O.V.E. Machine","School Daze" and "On Your Knees".Disc two is that album's '85 worthy follow-up with notable cuts like "Wild Child" and "Blind In Texas".Classic metal at it's best.
Awesome Combination!.......2005-10-22
This is an awesome double cd set of W.A.S.P's first two albums. Both cds are great. It doesnt have the bonus tracks either. Just the original songs from the album. I recommend this to someone who doest have either of them but does want them.

Customer Reviews:
another winner from Naxos.......2007-02-21
This is another winning compilation from Naxos. My only comment is to provide a heads-up regarding the track list in the booklet. CD 1 puts the Leonin "Viderunt Omnes" on six tracks, while the booklet leaves room for only one. Thus, add five to booklet tracks five through 21 for CD1 to get them to match. (I.e., where the booklet says tracks 15 and 16 are two versions of Josquin's "El Grillo," your CD player will show them to be tracks 20 and 21.) With luck this will be corrected in later printings.
Also, I would have liked the booklet to include the words, but perhaps that is an inducement to get particular CDs from Naxos.
As for the music itself--breadth of selection, musicianship, sound quality, all are excellent. A great collection!

I'm really enthusiastic about these CDs and booklet. I've had it for a few weeks now, in which I've explored Medieval and Renaissance music much more deeply than this little book and CD set. Yet I'm very glad I started with these.
The selection of composers gives an excellent, broad sweep across several centuries.
But the booklet contains one of the most informative essays I've found about early music, and I've spent a few dozen dollars buying books. If the booklet were separated from the CDs, it alone would be worth more than $10.
In short, if you're interested in exploring early music, this really is one of the best places to start; the best place that I know of. I'm sure, at any rate, that you can't beat the value.

Good early 80s metal!.......2005-11-20
W.A.S.P. was formed in the late 70s by Blackie Lawless who had been in the New York Dolls (post Johnny Thunders) and London with Nikki Six. Their first single Animal (F*ck Like A Beast) was produced by guitar connoisseur Mike Varney. It was refused release due to the title, but it is included on this re-issue! I have good memories of getting this on cassette by skipping church (sinner!) and going to my favorite music store. I think I bought it along with Grim Reaper's debut. Anyways, about half of this album is classic metal. My favorite songs are I Wanna Be Somebody (great chorus!), L.O.V.E. Machine (cool drums by Tony Richards), The Flame (good time rocker), School Daze (amusing lyrics), and Sleeping In The Fire (haunting ballad w/ great solo by Chris Holmes). This re-issue also includes a good cover of the Stones Paint It Black, making it a great bargain. Get it and crank it!
A great non-glam 80's metal album........2005-11-07
WASP's debut album is my personal favorite, that may be because I'm not that big of a fan. The songs have a great Motley Crue or Kiss feel to them, two bands that I love. If you like either of those bands, you will probably like this album.
1. Animal (F*** Like A Beast)-5/5. This is my favorite WASP song. The lyrics aren't as vulgar as you would think, with the F-bomb only being dropped twice. The music and chorus are very catchy. The vocals are great.
2. I Wanna Be Somebody-5/5. The original lead off track from the album. Another very catchy song, particularly the chorus, with a very anthemic feel to it. Great music and vocals.
3. Love Machine-5/5. As cheesy as the title may sound today, this is a great song with excellent vocals and lyrics. One of their best songs ever.
4. The Flame-5/5. Another superb song. Chorus is very catchy and the music and lyrics are excellent. A great head-bobbing rocker.
5. B.A.D.-4/5. This song is a bit of a step down. Not quite as catchy and sounds too much like Motley Crue filler material. Not bad, just not great.
6. School Daze-4/5. Also a bit cheesy. The music is cool, but the lyrics are kind of Who-ish about how dull school is. That topic kinda went out a long time ago.
7. Hellion-4/5. Fast paced and aggressive, this one is better than the two that proceed it. Great vocals, with Judas Priest type lyrics.
8. Sleeping (In the Fire)-5/5. A very cool slower song, but not really a ballad. The Lyrics are really good and the vocals are excellent.
9. On Your Knees-4/5. Another filler song. Fast paced like Hellion, but not quite as good. Lyrics aren't up to par, but the vocals are good.
10. Tormentor-4/5. Very catchy riff with good lyrics and good vocals. A very good track.
11. The Torture Never Stops-4/5. Great riff, with a catchy chorus. Excellent vocals, cool lyrics.
12. Show No Mercy-4/5. Although this was originally a b-side, it's an excellent track. Fast paced and musically catchy, with great vocals.
13. Paint It Black-2/5. Another b-side. I don't really like the Rolling Stones version of this song, so I don't really care for anyone else's either. For some reason this happens to be a favorite among metalheads, but I don't like it.
Overall, this is great 80's metal without all of the glam and hair or an alternative to thrash metal that was starting to take hold in the rock world. If you like it heavy, but not too heavy, this is a great record.
WASP ain't no hair band.......2005-09-28
I'm writing due to a bad review by another person. Most of the reviews for this album are 4-5 stars, but one individual gave them two stars because "it's hard to tell if they are taking themselves seriously or if the whole thing is a big joke." He continued to lump WASP in with the bands from the 80's as a whole saying "Fans of eighties metal like Motley Crue and Ratt may find something of interest here, but bands like this were a dime a dozen in the eighties and most created music far superior to this."
Wow. This guy is way off the mark. I was around in the 80's, and I was (and still am) into much of the rock/metal from that era. I feel it is my duty to set the record straight.
Do they take thelmselves seriously? Yes and no. WASP's leader, Blackie Lawless, is a very intelligent, well-spoken person. He knows reality from fiction. The outlandish costumes, obnoxious lyrics, and over-the-top stage persona are not to be taken seriously. But their dedication to their fans and their intense, roaring, screaming brand of metal comes straight from the heart.
Fans of the 90's grunge sound do not realize that at one time Rock Stars and their bands were bigger than life. They were charismatic, confident icons who captivated legions of fans with live shows that were closer to a circus than a mere musical performance. Their songs were a vehicle to escape the BS we must deal with in the real world. THAT is WASP!
Those 90's grunge bands think they should be taken seriously because they whine, moan and complain about the pain and anxiety in today's world? HA! They are so depressing they make me want to slit my wrists. They say "Our live shows are all about the music, not the flash", so they go onstage in T-shirts and jeans and have no fireworks, effects, or anything. What a rip-off. I've been to many shows by many of today's leading rock bands and left feeling like I was ripped off. The laugh at the pics and video's from the 80's metal bands and say "It was all about the look...they didn't even care about the music." WHATEVER! For us fans the music was ALWAYS the main attraction to the band. WASP is still releasing albums and touring after 20 years. If the music was weak they would have faded years ago.
WASP started in the 80's, but trust me...the average Bon Jovi fan did not listen to them. WASP is obnoxious, in-you-face, loud, screaming, crank-it-up, party-till-you-puke, no-frills Heavy Metal, and this album is one of their best.
If you are depressed, hate life, hate the world, and constantly feel like blowing your brains out I would recommend Nirvana, Pearl Jam and a good psychiatrist. If you are an arrogant snob who feels that intelligent people only listen to songs that tackle the social issues of the day I would recommend REM and a good dose of reality. Conversely, if your idea of dealing with today's world is throwing a finger in the air an screaming, "Bring It On!", then this album is for you."
My review for .... W.A.S.P........2005-05-25
This album is truely great. This is by far their best album. People say the lyrics are not-up-to-perfection, but comparing to other bands, they are on top of there game. The album came out in mid 80s' so you know its good automatically. If other bands and albums were this good, then the world would be a better place. This album kills other genres and proves to be a stomping stone for metal.
WASP COMES OUT SCREAMING!!.......2005-05-12
FOR A DEBUT ALBUM, I THINK WASP DID PRETTY GOOD... THE SONGS ARE VERY SIMPLE, YET ALSO VERY ACCESSABLE WITHIN THE FIRST FEW LISTENS... EVEN THIS EARLY ON, THE INCREDIBLE ENERGY OF WASP STANDS OUT... THE HEAD BANGING RIFFS MIXED WITH POWERFUL HARMONIES MAKES FOR GREAT OLD SCHOOL HEAVY METAL...

The Journey continues..........2007-07-10
Fresh off the heels of part 1, Blackie and the boys return to conclude their 2004 opus of Jesse Slane! A bit heavier than part one, Blackie showws he is a bit more focused and ready to rock this time around!
1. Never Say Die - Ah, a great motto of mine and a killer way to begin this album. Showing that after the orderals of part 1, Jesse has said he will not die! Awesome, heavy, right on! 4.5/5
2. Resurrector - This track picks right up where NSD leaves off. heavy, rocking, cohesive. Blackie seems to have finally gotten the right mix of storytelling and music. Awesome track. 4.5/5
3. The Demise - Goes wonderfully with part one's "The Rise." The tone and feel of the track is right on and done so well by the entire band. 4/5
4. Clockwork Mary - I'll be honest, this song didn't grab me the first few listens and I had a hard time figuring out how it fit. After awhile, i realized just how much of a heavy rocking song it really is. May not be their best, but does fit the album well. 4/5
5. Tear Down The Walls - Pretty cool track here, that to me sets up the listener for the following track. Not a filler, just really good storytelling by Blackie on this track. 4/5
6. Come Back To Black - My favorite off this album. Very much ties into the first part and again shows the true struggle of Jesse Slane. Awesome guitar and drum work along with a catchy chorus! 5/5
7. All My Life - The filler of the album. Though, not a bad one at that it seems to gel well and is essential to the story of the album. Don't underestimate this one. 3.5/5
8. Destinies To Come (Neon Dion) - The weakest track off the album. heavy guitar work, and a very essential part of the story; just doesn't do it for me though. 3.5/5
9. The last Redemption - The be-all-end-all of the "Neon God" series. What a rocking tune! Ties in all the elements from both part one and two and holds nothing back! Heavy rocker that is deserving of a "classic" label. 5/5
There you have it, the "Neon God" series. As I've mentioned, well worth it for W.A.S.P. fans. Not a bad concept album overall, it is a shame that it constantly gets compared to "The Crimson idol." Come on people, just enjoy it for what it is on its own!
Redundant but enjoyable.......2006-10-14
First, I give this album four stars rather than three because compared to most of the mindless pap being peddled as music (a situation that is not new, by the way), this album would be worth *at least* five stars. However, compared to some of the best metal, including some of W.A.S.P.'s previous releases, it struck me as being at best a three-star album. So, splitting the difference, it gets four.
Both the strongest and the weakest aspect of this and the previous W.A.S.P. release (The Neon God Part 1: The Rise) is that they aren't albums that you can just pop into the CD player while you drive across town, for two reasons. First, most of the individual tracks don't have hooks strong enough to engage your immediate head-banging response. In fact, Part 2 reuses many of the same fundamental riffs and melodies that originate in Part 1, while Blackie overlays them with different lyrics (which, themselves, feature identical phrasing in key passages). Short answer: Little on this album stands out as a great song.
The second reason these albums don't reward a casual listen is that they are, as other reviews have noted, two parts of a single, depressing story. (The liner notes are essential to understanding the story, by the way, so you'd be well advised actually to buy the physical CD rather than downloading just the music from iTunes or somesuch place.) The tracks on each album tend to blend into each other, with the effect of creating not a series of songs, but one sustained *mood*.
Now here's the good part: Few albums released these days can truly serve as "mood music" (unless your mood is bubble-headed stupidity). But if you've got some chores to perform around the house or the office, or if you're stuck on an airplane or in a car for an extended trip (and you're not the person driving), or even if you just feel a little discouraged or down and want to lay around for a while, these two discs provide the perfect soundtrack.
Speaking just for myself, I wish that Blackie had combined these two albums into a single, slightly longer release, as I find most of the tracks on Part 2 to be essentially redundant in terms of music from Part 1, and redundant in terms of lyrics from each other. (Really, how many different ways can one say "Worship me, you mindless sheep" or "Life is difficult and miserable"?) However, I'd rather get too much music from W.A.S.P. than too little, so I shouldn't complain.
Bottom line: If you like thoughtful, slightly pessimistic metal, you can't go too wrong with either half of W.A.S.P.'s The Neon God.
Never Say Die.......2005-12-28
First thing's first, if you are unaware that this is a sequel to WASP's "Neon God Part 1: The Rise," I strongly suggest you pick that one up before picking this one up as you might be a little bit lost in terms of the story.
The Neon God series by WASP is about a boy named Jessie who is abused and orphaned by his mother. The boy eventually discovers a talent to read minds. And, as a result of that talent, he gathers an almost religious following who view him as a holy creature - a dark messiah. He is "The Neon God."
In this record, you find out the fate of Jessie and what his power will ultimately bring him to. Since part 1 was titled "The Rise" and part 2 is titled "The Demise," you can pretty much determine what each disc is about story wise.
There are differences between part 1 and part 2. While part 1 was very story driven and only a handful of songs stand out as exceptionally catchy or radio friendly, part 2 is entirely comprised of catchy metal songs that could be considered anthems at times. For example, track 1 off part 2 is titled "Never Say Die" and is very catchy and very easy to get caught by. And, Blackie Lawless delivers some really interesting and different screams than we're used to hearing from him. In fact, a few times towards the end of the song one might wonder if the high pitched sound is the sound of a guitar or Blackie screaming at the top of his lungs. It's really high energy rock 'n' roll. I love it!
The final track of the opus is called "The Last Redemption" and it is nearly 14 minutes in length! This song is a epic culminating the story of Jessie with flashbacks to songs off of part 1 thrown in to make the effect that much stronger. During this marathon, Jessie battles Judah in a verbal confrontation about the so called "God of Love." It's quite deep and powerful yet melodic and musically strong.
I fully enjoyed both albums. To be fair, I'm not sure playing them in a car with those who are not expecting this opus of a concept album might confuse the hell out of them. But, if you tell them the story to catch them up, I'm sure they will appreciate the musicianship applied to these songs and the wonderful lyrics that help tell this great story.
Is this a "power metal" set as many concept albums are? The answer, quite frankly, is no. While power metal concepts can be very cool, WASP accomplishes the story telling in a far more straight forward and take no prisoners style. Simply put, it's great music by WASP as heard on their earlier albums with more intelligence put forward by the band than sex references. I dig both styles and simply put, I dig WASP and these records. Pick 'em up!
A bit better........2005-06-16
Better than "The Neon Part 1 -The Rise" but not enough to wake the neighbor. First of all Mr. Lawless should get a producer instead of him trying to control everything. I'm not sure people want conceptual album anymore! Don't try to re-do "The Crimson Idol", this isn't worth it anyway. Try something new or in the vain as "The Headless Children". Highlights: "Never Say Die", "Clockwork Mary" and .....more of the same.
"Come off your cross and resurrect your God".......2005-05-06
If you are not aware of The Neon God Part 1-The Rise, briefly, it is a concept of Blackie Lawless about a boy named Jesse Slane who suffers a horrific childhood, losing his father at a young age to be "raised" by a drug-addicted mother who eventually drops him off at a Catholic orphanage where he is confined to Asylum #9 and tortured and sexually abused by Sister Sadie. Once leaving the Asylum, the troubled youth encounters a magician named Judah who takes Jesse under his wing and teaches him to gain psychological power over others. The student soon becomes the master and Jesse gains the allegiance of a degenerate group of societal castoffs who elevate him to the level of Messiah. Part 2-The Demise takes up the story from there, but there is not much story left to tell. Jesse gains a religious mass following (like a televangelist) but, after a shocking encounter at one of his crusades, begins to question his role of prophet. He then learns that Judah is not going to let him just walk away. The story in Part 1 takes up 10 pages of text, the story in Part 2 takes up just 3. It seems to me that Lawless either ran out of ideas or just wanted to focus more on the music with this album.
Musically and lyrically, Part 1 and 2 are very similar (think more brain-driven metal like Headless Children rather than carnal, groin-driven metal on the W.A.S.P. debut). In fact, I do not think this album needed to be in two parts as Part 2 uses a lot of riffs from Part 1 and seems more like an extension than a different chapter. Although Part 2 eliminates the fillers that spread throughout Part 1 (Part 2 is 10 minutes shorter), I don't like this album quite as well musically or lyrically, but they are very close. Part 2 is more repetitive and takes too much from Part 1, but there are some gems here.
Five of the first six tracks are 5-star material. "Never Say Die" absolutely kicks. Lawless powerful screaming vocals are amazing (as usual). The chorus is very repetitive but it kicks so much fanny that energy of the track over powers the repetitiveness. "The Resurrector" just flies and incorporates the incredible "I don't believe in your God of love" chorus found on Part 1. The organ opening of "The Demise" is very powerful. It really makes the song. "Clockwork Mary" during which Jesse confronts his mother has a dark beauty. I really like the melody in this track. Lawless puts a lot of emotion in the tortured verses. "Tear Down the Walls" does not stand out like the other tracks so far. Despite the flying drums, it just rocks for rock's sake with no clear direction. The use of organ in this track, unlike in "The Demise," is just noisy. "Come Back to Black" really rocks at the verses. It has an addictive beat. The flaw in this track though is the very repetitive chorus but, like "Never Say Die," its repetition can be forgiven because the track flat out kicks. "All My Life" is a slow, emotion number with somber keyboards at the end. "Destinies to Come" is nothing too special.
All the tracks range from 2:34 to 4:39 until the final epic 13:40 "The Last Redemption." Here many riffs and verses from tracks off Part 1 are repeated with different lyrics. Things go full circle when Jesse repeats "No don't believe in your God of love" [He used this line on Sister Sadie in Part 1 but, in this case, he means himself as the Neon God; the false prophet]. In "The Last Redemption," Jesse addresses Judah, his congregation, God, and the world. The confrontation between Jesse and Judah on this track is the only dialog part on both albums that actually works, with Lawless not just singing the whole thing straight, but changing the vocals to indicate two people. It sounds like an disagreement set to music. This track is a little overdone but, considering the theme of the album, it is appropriate to end in a bang, I guess.
I really like the musical direction Lawless takes with the two CDs in this Neon God concept. I gave neither CD 5-stars because, with Part 1, there are too many fillers and, with Part 2, too much of the album is devoted to one long track. If the best of both albums (well, what I consider to be the best) were put on one CD, it would be a 5-star masterpiece. If you like metal with substance and, especially, if you liked Headless Children, get both CDs. The music is what matters, so I will not knock the lack of originality of the concept. Without giving away the ending (if there was one), it is not earth shattering. The organized religion concept seems to be overused to the point of losing its effectiveness. I think Lawless' note at the end of the story about the purpose of the concept is a little presumptuous. Really, it's just a metal album. Oh well, rock on!

great live rock CD.......2006-04-14
I love listening to this CD - the sound quality is great for all the live tracks except for the bonus tracks. On Widowmaker and Sex Drive, it sounds like someone sneaked in a tape recorder to the concert....the sound quality is *horrible* and the band can't stay in tune with each other. That's the only reason I'm giving the review four stars.
I can't say there is a bad song from Tracks 1-10...I love them all. The band plays really tight and they sound great! The sound quality is some of the finest I've ever heard. Hard to believe they sound so good while being so messed up, but they do play well on these tracks. My favorites are "Blind in Texas" and "9.5.-N.A.S.T.Y". Lawless' voice is great. My only nit-picky complaint is that you have this awesome, hard-rockin', ear-splitting power behind the guitars and bass, and then you have a wimpy snare drum that doesn't fit....sounds like someone tapping on a tin can.
I highly recommend this CD, at least for the first ten tracks. Rock -n- roll at its finest...
O.K........2005-09-29
Sound quality is great for every song but, "Widowmaker" sounds like microphones and additional dubbing took the night off.
The Ultimate WASP CD........2004-08-20
Blackie Lawless and his co-horts in WASP sprung out of the early eighties L.A. metal scene with the impact of a small hurricane. This was largely due to their over the top live shows and raunchy, explicit lyrics. In hindsight, what WASP offered was nothing new-mix in an Alice Cooper/KISS influenced stage show with some of metal's true big, dumb rock songs and you have WASP at its primal best.
That being said, WASP-Live...In The Raw is a pretty entertaning 'live' album, though those who actually attended the shows may dispute the album's 'live' credibilty, as many of the songs here were never actually performed at those shows. What we have is a very energetic sounding recording that was probably more than a little doctored in the studio. The best evidence for this is in the bonus tracks included in this release-Shoot From The Hip, Sex Drive and Widowmaker sound much more 'live' than the rest of the cd.
As for the actual songs, WASP penned quite a few memorable numbers in their career and the best of them are here-Inside The Electric Circus, Wild Child, Sleeping (In The Fire), The Manimal, I Wanna Be Somebody, Blind In Texas-these are all fine songs that stand up to repeated listenings. Curious, that their controversial debut single was not included-Animal(F**K like a Beast), this song is responsible more than any other for garnering the band attention and is actually a very cool tune. The CD also includes an awesome cover of Scream Until You Like It, an old chestnut redone by WASP for one of the Ghoulies horror film soundtracks.
The large majority of the remaining material suffers from truly inane and insipid lyrics and in some cases music that borders on tedium. Shoot From The Hip and Sex Drive will have to go down in history as two of the most misogynistic and idiotic songs of all time, 9.5. Nasty and Harder Faster aren't much better either. Also, the Sleeping In The Fire(acoustic) is anything but, featuring a very electric solo.
The digipack is nothing to write home about either, featuring some superficial and fluffy liner notes by a WASP 'expert' named Dom Lawson and the same photos initially featured in the 1987 vinyl and cassette release.
For those looking for WASP at their best, this is the only place to start. Ultimately, the only release by the band that stands the test of time in a eighties hair metal sort of way.

WASP has cultivated an image that is not reflective of this really great rock and roll band. Somewhere along the line WASP took off and developed a small cult following using costumes and on-stage antics (throwing raw meat, explatives etc.) This has kept a much larger main-stream audience away from their music. I was recently aquainted with the WASP catalog through the XM radio station the BoneYard. This is a great rock and roll band. Forget the image and the antics and just "Let the music do the talking" these guys are great!!
It's ok, but not really the best.......2006-01-27
This starts of with a cover of Elton John's "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting," which sounds okay, but seems out of place. It should have been placed alongside the last three tracks. It's great that they included "Animal(F**k like a beast). It's the one that put them in the spotlight. Basically you get mostly songs from thier first two albums. That's great, but after "Sex Drive," it seems like they just threw stuff in.
This might be good if you're already a fan, but not if you want to get to know the band. This album frankly gave me the wrong impression because I did that. W.A.S.P. isn't all about sex and swearing, and it's obvious if you take the time to go through the actual albums themselves. I want to give it a really good rating, but it just seems like a sloppy work. Heck, the cover art looks like it came from a home printer. If you must buy it, get a used copy. It's simply not worth shelling out the full price.
Good hits cd.......2005-02-22
This is a pretty good compliation CD. Its a re-issue of the previous "vol. 1" greatest hits cd.
I think 3-4 more songs could have been fit on this cd. It clocks in only a little over a hour. I also dont like how some of the tracks have been remastered (or lack thereof). Why "Saturday night alright for fighting" is on here is beyond me.
The packaging is a bit cheezy. It looks like it was printed on a inkjet printer. It contains a small booklet with some liner notes and info about the band. There are also some pictures in the booklet.
It might be better just to get the first 2 cds though(W.A.S.P. and The last command), since they contain the best songs anyways.

Who is the Neon God?.......2007-07-10
This album, (actually double album) was going to end up being compared to "The Crimson Idol" whether the band wanted it to or not. That being said, being the huge W.A.S.P. fan that I am, I instantly got this album. One thing I did not do, is compare to "The Crimson Idol." Why? Because it's not. Times have changed, and so does the band. While there are bits and pices that may sound similar, I believe it is unfair to compare this album to what is considered their masterpiece. This album is what it is, not "The Crimson Idol," but "The Neon God."
I'll spare the concept of the album because if you're that interested in what the concept is, than you should already be listening to the album. Instead, I'll give the track by track review with small detail as to what each song relates to.
1. Overture - Pretty cool instrumental to begin the album, which really wraps everything up between the two albums without the listener being aware that its doing it. Very cool guitar work here as well. 4/5
2. Why Am I Here - A small, kind of quick way for the album to really kick into the full story. Some would say it's a filler, and it is, but still needed for the story to begin. 3.5/5
3. Wishing Well - This is the track that really and offcially gets the story going. Awesome chorus and emotion, really makes you feel as if you're their. Awesome guitar work, seemless intergration of the band. 4/5
4. Sister Sadie (And The Black Habits) - A fairly long song that may get the listener lost, but it is a very well-done song which is essential to the story. Sister Sadie runs an orphanage, and she is actually abusing the children. Very dark, powerful song that again makes you feel bad for the main character Jesse. 4.5/5
5. The Rise - Cool song here that begins the triumph that Jesse will experience shortly. Again, seemless work by the band really brings everything together. 4.5/5
6. Why Am I Nothing? - Another filler track here, but again it is essential to the story. Jesse asks why he feels he is nothing and not deserving of any love. Being what he has been through, I would ask the same. 4/5
7. Asylum #9 - my personal favorite from the album, and one track that many others say stands out above the rest. Focuses less on the story and more on the music. Heavy riffs, strong chorus, and just raw energy! 5/5
8. The Red Room Of The Rising Sun - Another favorite track of mine. Has the right length and again seems to focus a bit more on the music rather than the story. Awesome guitar and drum work on this track, adds to a very trippy feel! 5/5
9. What I'll Never Find - Kind of toned down from the previous two tracks, but still very cool. The guitar is what really stands out on this track, which is really all you need. 4/5
10. Someone To Love Me (All I Need) - This is one filler track that I can say is not needed on the album. Adds nothing new to the story and really, other than a catchy quick chorus, there is nothing else to it. 3/5
11. X.T.C. Riders - Thankfully this song picks up just as the previous track gets too much. Another one of my favorites, just pure fun, heavy rocking track that can stand alone without the rest of the album for support. 5/5
12. Me & The Devil - Yet another filler track. Although, I find that I like this one a bit better than the others. May not seem as though it fits, but it will have you humming along with it. 4/5
13. The Running Man - When I first heard this track, I didn't know if I liked it because I couldn't hear how it fit with the rest of the album. Give it time because it will stick and it's a pretty heavy rocker once it does! 4/5
14. The Raging Storm - This is perhaps the most powerful track on the album. Wraps everything up for part one and makes you want part two as soon as possible so you can finish the story. Awesome heavy track that just rocks! 4.5/5
There it is, part 1. If you're a fan of W.A.S.P. then I recommend this album along with part 2. This, along with "The Crimson Idol" is what inspired me to write my own concept album!
New W.A.S.P........2007-06-28
I became a W.A.S.P. fan in the 90s with Double Live Assasins. See my review of The Sting live CD for progress they've made through their long career. I pawned my whole W.A.S.P. collection, which had most of their reissues. I was afraid to listen to W.A.S.P., Blackie Lawless had a ton of money and Chris Holmes was as mainstream as Richie Sambora. However, at a reduced pride I found this album and The Sting new at a store, I thought why not. Well this album is just not intense enough for me to give it more than 3 stars. It seems like a big "F.U." to King Diamond, as it's a concept album with multiple characters, a la The Crimson Idol, only King Diamond does it better and this is the weakest album I have heard from these aging shock rockers. It's not even as good as Still Not Black Enough, K.F.D. or Helldorado. I'm not dissing this album, it just isn't intense musically, lyrically or vocally for me to like it very much. Rip it on the hard drive of your PC or Xbox 360 so it doesn't skip. This is a pretty mediocre album by W.A.S.P. who are right now bigger than ever worldwide after revamping their live stage show for the Helldorado tour to return to their roots as gruesome shock rockers. W.A.S.P. are a pretty unpredictable band.
Crimson Idol Pt. 2?.......2006-07-05
I'll try to be short and not go into the breakdown of the whole album, others have already done that. Simply put, this is a solid album - but, it is not as good as The Crimson Idol. Sister Sadie, Asylum #9, XTC Riders and The Raging Storm are some highlights. One thing of notice is that Blackie's vocals sound somewhat strained, he just doesn't sound as powerfull as on previous albums. This is a very minor issue though.
This is a solid - though not great album, but Blackie making music is always a good thing. Definitely worth a purchase.
I'm your Physician with a Mission in Mind.......2005-12-28
The problem with music today is there is no brain, heart, or soul put into it. One of 2005's biggest hits was a song by a white guy in pants that don't fit and in more cheap jewelry than a Nevada call-girl "singing" in an angry spoken word about "sitting sideways." I suppose each generation is entitled to relate to whatever music they so choose but it is my God given right to point out the idiocy of my surroundings no matter if it hurts the simple minded or not.
That said, if you have read some of the reviews of the WASP "Neon God" set, you probably have seen a lot of really confused 30-something-year-old women less than satisfied that this album is not about what Blackie Lawless is like in bed. While the sleaze of WASP's early recordings is what got me into the band, the integrity of their new work is what keeps me a fan. I cannot help that some people have narrow-mindedly typecast the band into a small creative box and will not allow that band to grow out of that box or at least mature and release something different. But I'm sure both myself and the band themselves can rest assured that if Blackie would have given these women what they say they wanted and sung songs about his testicles, those same people would've bitched, moaned, and complained that the band is "trying to relive their glory days." In other words, don't believe what you read from those who simply will not be satisfied because they are battling their own borderline mid-life crisis and don't appreciate, like, or accept anything new including new releases by great bands that have a history behind them.
Now that I've ranted on the narrow minded and flat out idiotic reviews that lowered my IQ by at least a dozen points, let me put the album under the microscope with the concept that WASP is a metal band and not just a metal band that sings about sex acts. After all, we didn't pan Elvis' post Hound Dog releases because it had nothing to do with the k-nine species so why should we pan WASP's work because it is a little bit more complex than Animal?
This story is quite complex. Incase you've not read it on the reviews - the ones that actually understand the story, that is - the story is one that could pass as a Stephen King novel only WASP didn't get tired and actually put an ending worth sticking around for which is rarely the case for any Stephen King release. The story is of a boy named Jessie who is abused and orphaned. Over time, he discovers his ability to read minds. This ability earns him a following as these people look up to him as some sort of dark Messiah. The story progresses over time with the first Neon God release being titled "The Rise" and part 2 is described as "The Demise." So, naturally you can tell from the titles what each disc is about and how it tells the story.
The story takes many twists and turns throughout and those are reflected in the tone and sound of the album. Speaking of the sound of the album, I first want to compliment the producers for making this record sound really good. For concept albums, production must be high otherwise something gets lost in translation. This is a relatively crisp and clear sounding recording and that assists to the impact of the disc. Second, the musicianship is fantastic.
Someone who reviewed this album and put it down actually complimented the musicianship on a Green Day record. With all due respect to Green Day as they are not the worst band of all time though not something I'd consider myself a fan of, they aren't a pimple on Blackie Lawless' ass when it comes to talent. Blackie surrounds himself with the best musicians available and damn does it shine through in every album and every concert. Green Day? Well, it's good to know an anti-American and anti-Western civilization group of drunks that know 2 guitar strings can get air play these days. They're the best of the worst but complimenting them and mocking or putting down WASP is like saying "Those Indianapolis Colts are pretty damn good. But, my pee-wee junior-high football team went undefeated. So, we're better!" Get a clue, M'kay?
Back to the music. There are good and not so good points to the music on this album. Lets start with the not so good.
First, it's not quite as melodic as many WASP fans might expect. Don't get me wrong, it's melodic pop metal and you will find yourself singing along to certain songs. But, many songs could not stand on their own upon first listen because you'd either wouldn't understand it due to the concept or it doesn't sound good without hearing the song before it.
In addition, there are a few short songs that are best described as intro and outros. Perhaps "filler" could be a term that can be used but in a concept, sometimes a transition needs to be made and that is the purpose of such tracks.
And finally, some of the tracks can run together. This also is common for concepts but I do not like when it happens. Call me old fashioned but I like to know when a song begins and ends.
And now, the good.
First, the story is very cool. I love debating people who tell me my chosen style of music is not about anything when they like the most mindless of mindless drivel. Now all I have to do is whip out the booklet that comes with this CD with the story on it and say, "About nothing, huh?"
Second, but second to none, are Blackie Lawless' vocals. I am always shocked that guys like Kevin DuBrow and Blackie Lawless can be screamers for so many years and still sound the same while Steven Tyler sings in a far less rough style on his voice and even his spoken voice sounds like he's had 6 to 10 throat cancer operations at this point.
Third, great songs but one really stands out. I said above that not all the songs can be played on the radio and be accepted or taken well without knowing the story. This is true of most of the tracks but not of "Asylum #9." I played that track on the radio all of once and one person wrote me saying it was, as he put it, "the best song I've heard in 5 years." But hey, we can't play that song on the radio because the ever so talented Green Day wrote an ever so meaningful song calling us all idiots. Naturally that will get lots of play and we'll eat it but WASP and true talented rock bands get ignored to continue to attempt to keep the myth of Cobain's greatness alive... Sorry, got lost in a rant yet again. "Asylum #9" is just a great song. I have cranked that one up REALLY loud and screamed at the top of my lungs trying to do my best Blackie Lawless impression on many occasions. Blackie sounds great, there's a mind blowing solo, and the band just shines on this cut. I'd like to see them perform this song live though the few times I've seen them since this release, they have not.
And finally, why don't I just give the band credit for staying metal when it seems to be "cool" to sell out your past and look like your father sitting next to you as he takes you to your drivers test and pumps his fist to your music like pathetic Joe Elliot does and Aerosmith did when they sold their soul for a mediocre last run by dancing with Nsync and Britney Spears. Simply put, Blackie understands that WASP is a heavy metal band that performs heavy metal. Regardless the lyrics be them groin driven or brain driven, the sound is loud and there is no apologies made for not being trendy, hip, or cool. After all, you see, that describes the typical metal head, doesn't it? A little dark, a little weird, a little crazy, but a whole lot of fun? If not, I'm in the wrong genre!
So, overall, is this album worth buying? I'd say yes but only if you have an IQ greater than your amount of teeth and aren't an arrogant person who will not accept the maturity of a band. In other words, if you're going to be pissed that you won't hear a generic rip off of Animal on this album, keep your money and buy one of WASP's great live CD's or DVD's. But if you want a kick in the teeth with something fresh, new, different, yet still kick ass metal, buy it! You'll enjoy the story, most of the songs, and you'll get to hear one of metal's unsung heroes, Blackie Lawless, belt out songs with as strong of a voice as ever before!
Who cares about the concept!.......2005-06-28
The music is so ho hum on this record that I didn't even care enough to get into the concept. I also don't think it was recorded very well. The vocals are week and the music kinda runs together. I really haven't listened to WASP since "Headless Chidren" If this is an indication of how they've been sounding since that time then it's probably a good thing. Don't wast your money. It's not even good by todays standards.

For those of you who enjoy the music, as it was sung and played during the Civil War, this recording is a "must!" J.A. McA.
Living history.......1999-07-31
So shoot me. I like bagpipe music and I like fife and drum recordings and I like brass bands. Recently cruisin' the Internet brought me to the website of a company called Summit Records out in Arizona; and my eye was caught by the title
(DCD 126) with a group calling itself The Americus Brass Band. I obtained a copy post haste and I want to all to know about it with equal rapidity. There is just short of 55 minutes of Civil War tunes played in a style that is "historically accurate, right down to the high military pitch and the clicking of the rotary valves on the original antique instruments employed" (as the notes tell us). The history of the band is available in those notes, so let me just dwell on the "music that still produces feelings of humor, joy, sadness, and patriotic pride." Well, what music does not produce at least one of those?--and I am not entirely sure there was anything about the Civil War of which we on either side should be particularly proud. But Sing a Song of Suffering seems to be an eternal way of making the best of a rotten situation during war time; and this CD is replete with such memories as "Tenting Tonight," "Amazing Grace," "Woodman, Spare That Tree," and even a little bit of the "William Tell Overture" and a Meyerbeer opera! In short, this is not the expected line up of soldier songs but selections that are "typical of that which might have been played by a group such as the Americus Brass band." I love it. Give it a try, please.
