5 out of 5 stars The Audio Injected Soul by Mnemic.......2007-05-11

I decided to take a chance a buy a Mnemic CD because I have heard a lot of people say some of their sound is similar to Fear Factory. This was the only CD that the store carried by Mnemic so I decided to buy it.

I was completely blown away at how great of a band these guys are! They have their own unique sound, but you can hear the influences of Mnemic and Devil Driver. Mnemic is one of those bands that are on the very top of their game and are so talented that you won't believe that you have never heard of.

5 out of 5 stars It's so heavy it made me weep..........2007-01-16

Bombastic. That's pretty much all I can think of when describing this album. if you are a drummer or a bass player (like me) you will go bananas for this record. I've had it in my CD player for a month now and can't really seem to take it out. Mnemic is described as "future metal". If this is what metal is gonna sound like when im 60, then it looks like I'll be headbanging in my depends. Hey... go buy it!!!

2 out of 5 stars very funny .......2006-08-08

Another side project from the ever prolific singer from Wheatus, This one finds him in very funny satanic black metal form, made hysterical by things like white denim jeans and pentagram trucker hats that are great satire on the genre, Very funny stuff and hilarious vids, not really much for repeat listening though as the tunes are a bit like if linkin park produced a Fear Factory record, but funny as all his projects are. Again though with his sides, no greats like teenage dirtbag to really grab onto.

5 out of 5 stars Mnemics Best Effort.......2006-05-12

Recent In Flames meets Fear Factory, this is my take on it. These guys aren't anything close to Meshuggah, the drums come nowhere close at least, i could see how the vocals could sound like Meshuggah thats about it. Anyway, i'm a long time supporter of Fear Factory, and i must say the clear spots in the vocals are impressive and are accurate to a Burton C. Belle comparison. Anyway, catchier riffs and drumwork in this one, you can even hear basslines on occasion. The production and musicianmanship are better on this release than there last album and the mixing is well done. After listening to Mnemic's 2003 release "Mechanical Spin Phenomena" i wasn't very impressed. That album sounds like a more brutal early Static-X spinoff. This record has a more Mnemic trademarked sound, that i could get used too. If you like these guys you'll probably like Bleed the Sky, Fear Factory, or Sybreed.

2 out of 5 stars Metalcore in Disguise.......2006-04-17

I first heard of this band through a Metalhammer ad, proclaiming this band as being 'real' metal as opposed to metalcore. Being one of those people who can't stand the new trend of attaching 'core' to pretty much anything these days (gothcore does not exist, dammit), I thought this was for me. Hah. Very wrong.

I can't believe this band is a Scandinavian Death metal band; it sounds more like its part of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal. There is some excellent heavy riffing, and the band keep to the lower registers, showing excellent musicianship. The vocals, however, are terrible. The singer's voice is much too high, and his 'screaming' vocals are incredibly annoying, sounding like they belong in a screamo band's material. And the breakdowns - and face it, people, that is what they are - confirm this as metalcore, with unimaginative attempts at showing that the vocalist can carry a tune.

The lyrics are very derivative and not particularly dark, with the vocals swearing blood and guts in the verses and trying to get all emotional in the chorus - "i'm gonna rip your head open...but i'm also a very sensitive guy with some very deep problems, just look at the scars on my arms...did i mention i'm going to kill you?" Neither is convincing, especially with lines such as 'I'm pushing the sticks into myself...I need the pain'.

These guys sound like Caliban or Killswitch Engage, with some Fear Factory and Static-X moments thrown in just to make it even more insufferable. Nothing like Meshuggah, though. I'm a huge fan of that band, and find few similarities...Meshuggah are never this annoying. That's what Mnemic are - not threatening, not dark, just annoying.

Maybe it's my fault for listening to this - I'm generally into Viking, Death (true and melodic) and some Black Metal, and can't stand hardcore or metalcore. Coming from a background of Amon Amarth, Dark Tranquility, Enslaved, Ensiferum, Wintersun, etc., this is too much of a contrast. Add one star to the review if you like the new American bands who mix hardcore and metal, or generally if you like metalcore. This is not for those into dark metal of any form, though, and is certainly not death metal.

5 out of 5 stars Technical Industrial Metal.......2006-01-07

The band is awesome. Great to listen to in any situation, but best for driving, just don't get a ticket!!! The pulse of this entire album is moveing to say the least. It is hard to sit still during this album. It gets in your blood and rattles your brain. I hope these guys are getting some new material together soon, because I need a Mnemic fix daily, and this album has countless spins already, so I need some new sh**. I've tried to come up with a group of bands that these guys remind me of but it is very difficult to call them out. They are in the vein of Fear Factory - Yes. But they are so much more than that. Reaching speeds of 200bpm and higher, they still find room in very fast paced riffs to introduce melody and a melodic sense to they sound. Anyone into the Melodic Metal movement needs this album.

As an added bonus, Mnemic use a remarkable 20bit (instead of the usual 16bit) CD rate, which allows them to add effects that normal bitrate CD's can't compare to. The music is literal sounding like it is coming out at you from every angle, and is best enjoyed in headphones where there is no sound washing.

Bottom line - Mnemic deserve your attention at least for one play through. Even if you don't like it as much as I do, they are good enough to deserve that attention.

Lastly, to guitarists out there, these guys are fun as hell to play. Their riffs are just as cool to play as they are to listen to....
