When punk rock met the formless rebellion that permeated L.A.'s working-class suburbs in the early '80s, a weird hybrid was born, drawing equally from heavy-metal thunder and Ritalin-generation aggression. Suicidal Tendencies' frontman Mike Muir was one of them, and they knew it immediately, latching onto the half-spoken, half-screeched brain bomb "Institutionalized" as an instant classic. That song is certainly the best-known track on this, the group's debut, but it's hardly the only essential one: "Fascist Pig," "I Shot the Devil," and "Possessed" all rage on mightily, the arcs of guitar from Rocky George and Mike Clark serving to push Muir to new heights of blind frenzy. In less powerful hands, this album would be little more than an extended temper tantrum, but in the mitts of Suicidal, it's something far, far more dangerous. --David Sprague

This is still my favorite Suicidal CD. If you're only going to get one Suicidal Tendencies CD, get this one.

4 out of 5 stars Great Album!.......2007-05-02

I just recenty heard of this band from a friend of mine. I am now hooked on Suicidal Tendencies. Even tho I was like 1 year old when this album came out. Do yourself a favor and buy it, you want regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Monstrous.......2007-04-28

I bought this record (LP) in 1986 after hearing Institutionalized. I recorded that song onto cassette tape, listened to the record, and was so shocked (imagine--at age 16? What a p**sy) with some of the content I smashed the record outside on the sidewalk. Cut to about 19 years later, I see a re-issue colored-vinyl LP at Newbury Comics and decide I must have this, I must re-claim and face that which drove me to violently destroy a violent album full of rage. The result?

This record is sick, and it's the best sick I've ever heard. Classic, classic, classic. A must-own as a record of pure insanity.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best thrash/metal albums........2007-04-07

You know why i like Suicidal? I like how they have african americans in their band. I am african american myself. I like thrash, metal, punk, hardcore, and stuff like that. I like to see other african americans involved in hardcore, and metal. I like The dead kennedys, Bad brains, and other bands who have included other races like mine in their bands. This album is incredible. I got it quite a while back and was hooked from the first track. It's fast and aggressive. I am a skater too, and this is great skate music. This is a great album so buy it.

5 out of 5 stars Classic. From start to end. Hands down........2007-01-02

Essential listening. Nothing can touch it. For those who were born around the time this album came out, or who are only familiar with "Institutionalized", do yourself a favor, and get ahold of this album. It's barely 30 minutes long, and goes by real quick. It will also leave a long lasting impact on your outlook of music, among other things.

5 out of 5 stars The single best album ever recorded.......2006-11-14

It's all been said before, but I'll add my two cents worth. This album by Suicidal Tendencies is not only their greatest, but the greatest by any band at anytime anywhere. It makes your life better simply by listening to it and thrills you every single time you play it. Trip at the Brain is an electrifying opener with an absolutely unprecedented heavy trip in the middle over Rocky George's endlessly melodious lead guitar, it is simply stunning. Pledge Your Allegiance will have every ST fan jumping around with reckless abandon. The Miracle was the song every metal band in the world prayed to God to have delivered upon to them, ST lucked out I guess. Sorry?!, an intensely personal (so much so its lyrics aren't in the liner notes), utterly thrilling and endlessly sad song. The album's title track How Will I Laugh Tomorrow is simply ST's best ever. It encapsulates the virtuosity both musically and lyrically of this band and is as essential to life as the blood in my veins and the air in my lungs. Just buy this album.

5 out of 5 stars Rocks pretty hard.......2006-11-11

This is the thrash album by Suicidal Tendencies. Overall it's about 50 times better than Join The Army, production-wise at least. The songs are still just as catchy. Pick it up if you have any passing interest in thrash.

5 out of 5 stars Best work ever.......2006-09-04

Suicidal Tendencies has never been a "popular" band but they seem to manage to stick around. "How Will I Laugh" is probably their best work to date (and probably the best they will ever do judging from their more recent releases). Awesome riffs and strange vocals (but typically lame guitar solos). If you only get one ST album, this is the one to get.

5 out of 5 stars The reasons ST made their best effort HERE..... .......2006-06-16

Having seen the band at a tension filled show 6 months earlier at an odd metal/punk dual bill in Oakland, I was not surprised to see new faces on the cover. Gone was co-founder Louichi Mayorga on bass, and they had added Mike Clark on rythym guitar. Mike Clark also wrote the music almost across the board on this album, and I don't know if he'd been storing up these gems for a rainy....er...band, but WOW!

Add to that the release from the tension of battling with his homey (they barely made it through their Oakland gig)with the sheer joy of finding a songwriter/solid-phat player like Clark, and Cyko Myko Muir was set free! He wrote focused thematic lyrics that finally achieved the urban balance between punk bark and in-the-pocket smooth rap (witness the outro/vamp on "Trip to ...")he had been looking for.

Rocky George(the most underrated lead player in rock) was finally completely comfortable, and had some meaty hooks to launch from and soar. Rythym section locked tight... man I had no idea when I picked it up that day in '87.

I got home, was busy with work on my own label, was about to go to bed... "Let me just check this out for a second" - my curiosity piqued. Holy Cats! Next thing you know I was WIDE awake, volume up, stomping around my room, wrecking s**t! As if I neede proof, caught them at the ensuing support show and it was MAYHEM. And that's just about what you want... truly great moments in Rock, better yet Punk Rock!

5 out of 5 stars A THRASH METAL ADVENTURE, MY ALL TIME FAVORITE ALBUM !.......2006-06-05

"How will I Laugh Tommorow if I Can't Even Smile Today" is a unique album and in a class of its own. (kind of like Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon and the rock genre.) This awesome thrash metal album performed by Suicidal Tendencies is one of the most "feel good" albums created in the genre.

Filled with very complex songwriting and sometimes simple but blatantly catchy riffs. Also a very serious album dealing with topics such as : taking psychedelic drugs, suicide, severe depression, hearing auditory hallicinations and more. The band plays at a reasonably fast pace while throwing out bursts of energy and emotion, it really feels 3 dimensional. At a few points, this album slows down a bit but never gets dull. It demands your absolute attention and creates a mellow atmosphere in your conscious. This is one of those albums that sounds so great after every spin that youll be sure to pop it in again whenever you want to just relax.

I gotta admit, the first time I listened to this album I wasn't as impressed as everyone hyped it up to be. After time I began to feel the music proving its worth to me. I realized that is was never hyped at all, its very underrated if anything! I began to see the real message they were portraying and the feelings about it just deepen the more you pay attention. Its like falling in love with it....... kinda.

I think to really appreciate this album you should do some research on some of the lyrics and topics, that is, if you dont know what they are. for example: audio/visual hallucinations, lucid dreams, altered states of mind, depression, psychedelic drugs (mushrooms, salvia divinorum, lsd, etc.) Only to understand the music better.

4 out of 5 stars A great cross-section.......2006-12-06

"Prime Cuts" is a best-of album so, you either like ST or you don't. Being a 20-year ST fan, I love having a cross-section of their material. (Personally, I was surprised the "Controlled by Hatred" didn't make the cut (no pun intended). If you're not a ST fan, then this is a great introduction. They never really made it big but they had some great material. Any interest in skater-thrash or metal? If so, ST is for you.

3 out of 5 stars Strange selection of "best" ST songs.......2006-11-16

This album only gets three stars from me because I genuinely believe they could have gone for a much better "best of" selection than they did. Gotta Kill Captain Stupid and Lovely wouldn't touch my top 20 ST songs. Having said that, it's still ST so it's gotta be great.

5 out of 5 stars amazing!.......2006-11-08

I had this album years ago when i was in high school, for some unknown reason (young and stupid is probably a good guess), i sold it. For years i've missed the sounds of ST and wished i had it still. I'm glad i bought it again.

5 out of 5 stars Duh!.......2006-01-03

Pedants would be forced to admit that this band is class. They're awesome live and are still trying to keep it real despite the detractors who want to criticise everything these guys do! Suicidal have provided just about everything to music and never get the appreciation.

At least they were bothered re-recording songs instead of just re-releasing them. The quality of music is high.

The variety is awesome.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely...luh luh luh luh luh luh luh luh lovely.................2005-06-06

Suicidal Tendencies is one of those metal bands that I knew of when they were popular but I didn't really start listening to them until many years later. I was only familiar with some of their earlier hardcore-punk-type stuff, like 'Institutionalized'. A friend of mine started listening to them and slowly but surely, I really started to dig them too. This was the first album I bought, after listening to a few of them with my friend. I would say this is my favorite album by them.

If I could describe this era of Suicidal Tendencies, it reminds me of the Red Hot Chili Peppers if they were a metal band! And this is probably why I never really liked the RHCP...because they're not metal!

'You Can't Bring Me Down' is an anthem for rising up above those who piss you off. It has a nice metal intro ala Metallica that starts slow and builds to an onslaught. I've heard people complain that this is 'comemrcial' ST, whereas I believe they had not fully matured or developed when they reached this point. This album could be considered 'over-produced' when compared to their earlier music, but I never would have really gotten into them if they never advanced to this level.

When I say the music sounds like Red Hot Chili Peppers, for example in 'Lost Again,' there's a part at the end that goes "Something's gone wrong with me/I guess I got lost in reality," and all I can picture is the singer of RHCP and then after the vocals the guitars play a fast rhythm that matches the previous melody. We also hear some of this on 'Lovely' - there's something really enjoyable about "Lovely...luh luh luh luh luh luh lovely." or "I feel lovely/la la la lovely ow how."

I'm also not one to appreciate lyrics too much, but these guys write some really great stuff. They deal with realistic themes such as hate, fear, depression, anxiety, stress, even the ridiculousness of televangelists in 'Send Me Your Money': "Here comes another con hiding behind a collar/His only god is the almighty dollar/he aint no prophet, he aint no healer/he's just a two bit goddamn money stealer."

This cd is really all over the place, and individual songs even vary greatly from softness to heaviness within themselves. This is one of those albums where I never skip over any of the songs. The lyrics are meaningful and applicable to most real people, and you'll learn all the songs quick and you'll sing them to yourself all day long.

To those new to Suicidal Tendencies, I would recommend you buy this album or ART OF REBELLION. Both of them are great places to start.

5 out of 5 stars I Feel Lovely!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-02-18

Suicidal Tendencies are on of my all time favorite bands and their album Lights...Camera...Revolution is their greatest. This album is recomended to anyone who wants kick-ass "cheerful metal." Highlights on this album are "Lovely" "Discos Out Murders In" and "Give It Revolution".

5 out of 5 stars When your emotion gets the best of you.......2004-05-02

Everyone wants to control your life. Everyone tells you what to do and how to live. This is the album that breaks all the rules and fights hard to destroy the opposition. When life's problems are too much to aborb there's always one band to tune to: Suicidal Tendencies. Powerful up front lyrics, powerful guitars and sections of interludes that makes you free.

3 out of 5 stars A dying flame........2004-04-27

It was interesting reading all of the opinions on this album.I'm probably some where in the middle.I love ST ,I've been listining to them about 16 years.Plain and simple, ST's first 3 albums are the best.In order 1.self title + How WILL I LAUGH...
(can't decide) 2.Join The Army. That's were rating this album comes in.I've been spoiled listening to those 3 great albums,so obviously this album doesn't cut it!When I hear this album the chemistry is just not there as it once was.Don't get me wrong, I'm not bashing this album completely.I rather listen to this album over 90% of rock that comes out today.Stand out tracks are ALONE(very good),YOU cant bring me down(good),and the rest of the songs are just okay. With the exception of one song,SEND ME YOUR MONEY(WHAT THE F#@! WERE THEY SMOKING),horrible song.If people want to rate this album, compare it to the best first.p.s It's good to hear new ST,CHECK OUT FREEDUMB,NOT THE MOST O.G OR POLISH ALBUM BUT THE BOYS ARE HAVING FUN AGAIN.

4 out of 5 stars The Master of No Mercy.......2004-06-12

This, from what I hear, is one of Suicidal's best-selling records, probably as much because of the name as the music. This is the first record with Robert Trujillo on bass, although for whatever reason, he is credited as "Stymee". These days he makes a more than a comfortable living as the latest Cliff Burton stand-in in Metallica. The downside to this album is that the production is kinda flat. The upside is that there are several excellent songs on here. However, its should be noted, and I don't see it in any of the other reviews, that half of this CD is actually cover songs, plus two more are different versions of the same song from Suicidal's previous album.

Somewhat different versions of "Controlled By Hatred", "Master Of No Mercy", "Waking the Dead", and "Choosing My Own Way Of Life" originally appeared "Widespread Bloodshed/Love Runs Red" by the band No Mercy in 1987 (NOT the mid-'90's hip-hop group). No Mercy was Mike Clark's first band, and Mike Muir replaced No Mercy's original singer sometime in the mid-'80's, before the album was recorded. This record is way out of print (a rumored re-issue has yet to appear) and its definitely worth the hunt to pick it up if you are a hardcore Suicidal fan, although it will cost you big bucks. A couple songs intended for a second No Mercy LP ended up on "How Will I Laugh Tomorrow" (including the title track). No Mercy sounds much more like the late '80's/early '90's Suicidal than, say, the band that recorded "Join The Army". I think that "Controlled By Hatred" was one of the best songs that Suicidal ever recorded. "Waking The Dead" is also great. The other 2 songs are good, but don't match the previous two. Anyway, another cover on here is "Its Not Easy", originally recorded by the Mike Muir-side project Los Cycos in 1985 for the "Welcome To Venice" comp., a record than will cost you more that No Mercy's, especially since the master tapes were destroyed in a fire, making a re-release almost impossible. "Its Not Easy" is all right. Its one those "Underneath my crazy exterior, I'm hurting" songs Mike Muir seemed to pull out at least twice per album. Then you've got two versions of "How Can I Laugh Tomorrow..." The first is the video edit. Completely useless, who needs the edited version of a song? The "heavy emotion version" on the other hand, is absolutely fantastic. Then you've got two more songs (original to this disc as far as I know), the excellent "Just Another Love Song" and the not-quite-as-good-but-still-pretty-good "Feel Like S***, Deja-Vu".

A couple of people have made mention of "gangsta" image of this album, but that was something Suicidal had from the beginning, although it was mixed with a skater thing. Anyway, who cares about their image? Its not like they were singing about their ho's and bling-bling. Besides, if you are a Suicidal fan you should already own this, and if you don't like them then I doubt this CD will change your mind.

4 out of 5 stars Better than HOW WILL I LAUGH..........2004-06-01

With this being said I will you a reason for my bias; pure angry thrash[metal]. Well... except for the two alternate versions of "How Will I Laugh..." WAKING THE DEAD is perfect for a slow-mosh, the lyrics for MASTER OF NO MERCY are hilarious and JUST ANOTHER LOVE SONG makes the circle pit explode with drunk idiot punks and locs alike. The energy is much more present here than the previous album discussed above and contains less mindless tracks that plagued that record making it way too hokey. Here, Suicidal are much more primal and evcn more metal than that release. The two HOW WILL I LAUGH reprises are almost worth a rats (...)(check out the 'heavy emotion version,' which is the best of all three!) SUICIDAL 4 LIFE!!!

3 out of 5 stars A good album, but a letdown from How Will I Laugh.......2004-04-07

Considering that of the 9 songs on this album, two are just remixes of the track "How will I Laugh" there really isn't enough new material here. The material that is there is good though, with a thrashy sound, a bit less melodic than How Will I Laugh but nicely mettalic. My theory on this album though is that this is mostly material that didn't make it onto the How Will I Laugh album or wasn't finished so they released it a year later. Not bad, but not so memorable.
Buy it if your a big S.T. fan, if not stick with the previous releases.

5 out of 5 stars Ear to ear grin.......2003-11-15

This album is one of the finest that ST did. I used to listen to this album a lot between the ages of 15 - 17 (probably because it suited the age). A lot of time - years - passed by before I was floored by this group's music. Yes, floored is the word.

My love for thrash and speed metal is one that also disappeared for quite some time, and then all of the sudden years later I became to appreciate the genre extremely. Like a woman you haven t seen for some time, and then you re unite after some time. Sounds kind of mushy don't it ? : )

Actually I had the luck of seeing this band live on a tour they did in 1991 w Queensryche (which is also a good band).

Although this band is criticised for living a `thug life', I tend to ignore or not pay attention to that. It really gets in the way of my enjoying or liking their music.

Their music has energy and aggression and that s what I look for when Im listening to it. The guitars sound incredible on here. Rocky George sounds without words, as some of the best guitar solos I ve heard. Probably because there is a edited version of the video to How will i laugh. That song rocks and the solos are super. The other songs too, `Waking the dead', Master of no mercy, and Controlled by hatred. It deserves 5 stars. I dont see why 4.

Peace.

3 out of 5 stars It deserves 3.5 stars........2003-07-16

To be honest I think the music and the lyrics are great. What bothers me is the production. I don't mind if any album is not as polished as "The Black Album", but there is something wrong here. You can hear the instruments perfectly; the drums, guitars, and bass can be heard very clearly. But you can barely hear Mike Muir's voice. All of the instruments are louder than the singing. I'm a big ST/IG fan, and what surprises me the most is that the albums they released before this had better production than this album and they wern't really polished. For examaple, the albums before this had the same production as Megadeth's "So Far, So Good.....So What", which is pretty good.

Now to the music. This album is a good example of ST's Thrash/Speed Metal era. If you like 80s Megadeth, Anthrax, Slayer, Testament, and COC then you will definatly like this. This is not a harcore punk CD like thier self-titled debut, which was great. They also avoided the Skater Thrash sound that they made on their second album "Join The Army", which was also good. Like I said if you liked the aformentioned bands then you will like this. If you're lookin for Nu Metal junk, then look somewhere else or turn on Mtv.

My advice to you is don't get this album unless if you heard their other albums first. I like this album, but I don't think anyone should get this if its the best ST albums for beginners. I would reccomened getting "Join The Army", "How Will I Laugh Tommorrow", or "lights....Camera..Revolution" first. If you liked then you should deffinetly get this.

5 out of 5 stars ST at its angry best.......2006-11-14

Do not accept anything Captain Blade said as truth. Because in point of fact, this album is among ST's best. The reason for all the swearing were not as Captain Blade outlined, but as an angry reaction to Sony which insisted ST make another commercial album like The Art of Rebellion (the fact Captain Blade dismisses this album as well tells you how ignorant of ST's ouevre he is). The lyrics are extremely good, just check out Evil: "my morals reach the junction where my conscience stops its function", Mike Clark's guitar is awesome as always and Rocky George leaves ST in heroic fashion with a nothing short of amazing guitar solo in the album's monumentual Love vs Loneliness, surely one of ST's best ever songs. I fully recommend this album.

5 out of 5 stars Listen to the audio samples IDIOTS??!!.......2006-10-22

This is easily a five star CD. From top to bottom, all the songs slam hard as hell. Mike Muir "lead killer" has done it again. You can easily tell this CD DESTROYS ALL MONSTERS just listen to the samples! Listen to the samples!! Listen to the samples!!! Mike Muir - "cyco miko" lead vocals, Rocky George - is again "waking the dead" on blazing lightning lead guitar, Robert Trujillo (OZZY, METALLICA) - the thrash-metal legend on bass. A totally, truly awesome band. Does it really matter who the second guitarist is or who the drummer is? Nope! Long as they can hang with those guys.

4 out of 5 stars a great album, but only so-so for ST.......2006-08-27

Yeah, i can totally agree with almost every comment made about Suicidal For Life; the vibe of the album is a little off. I definitely would NOT go as far as to say that the band released a sub-standard record willingly. I mean, their previous album was waaaaay over-produced and commercial-leaning -- S4L sounds like a reaction to that. Also, the recognition Mike Muir and the guys were (over)due was not exactly flowing forth at this point, so again, we're left with some ticked-off dudes behind this record. It's almost like they didn't want a successful record that Epic Records could profit from -- I think Warrior Soul had a similar problem with DGC on their record Chill Pill.

And furthermore, I seem to remember very little promotion, video rotation, etc., for S4L, which leads me to believe that Epic leaned on them to get a record ready, get it out, get it over with, get ST off the label -- after all, Art Of Rebellion was a big investment for Epic, and it didn't blow up. It's stupid that ST/Epic went that route at all, since the album before AOR (fitting initials), Lights...Camera...Revolution! did really well. There was no reason to soften up and bring in Peter Collins to give them a radio-friendly sound. So suffice it to say, ST got the crap-end of the stick all around. So did the fans. Too bad. They had everything you could want in a band and you can hear them in a lot of the bands that are raking in money today. If you're not now, you never were.

5 out of 5 stars I don't get bad rattings.......2005-05-25

This is 1st St album I heard and because of it I looked for others.
Music is great, lyrics are provoking and funny, although repetitive on some (2nd, 3rd) songs. I like every song, I don't see any as filler. Unlike this, most other albums do have fillers and boring songs. I have been listening this album for years now, and is my ST favorite. Yes, I have heard all others.

1 out of 5 stars Not good........2005-02-03

I must confess to being very dissapointed in this album when I first purchased it. The fact is that the explicit and 'controversial' song titles only mask the fact that this is a very poor album. The songs don't really go anywhere, and Mike Muir's lyrics are really lazy and uninteresting. You could see at this point that ST were starting to fall apart.

Not reccommended.

5 out of 5 stars My intro. to Suicidal Tendencies.......2005-05-13

As my title says, this was the first Suicidal Tendencies album I got. I expected it to sound punky, as everyone says they're so good a punk band. I was surprised, and NOT the bad kind! This album is straight forward metal. The first two albums had a punk influence, but HCILTWICEST and everything afterwards was a metal album. This is one of the best albums of the 90's. Mike Muir's vocals are top-notch here. Rob Trujillo's bass is great, the guitars from Mike Clark and the other guitarist (forgot his name...sorry!) are great, as are the drums. The album starts out with "Cant' Stop". NO, not the Red Hot Chilli Peppers song! It's one of the longer songs, but it's a great start to this great album. The next songs, "Accept My Sacrifice" and "Nobody Hears", are my favorite songs on this album. I like all the songs on this album, but the above three are my favorites. Recommended if you like metal, speed metal, and Suicidal Tendencies.

5 out of 5 stars It contains one of the most mesmerizing songs ever!!!.......2005-03-09

I am 36 and have been listening to hard rock/metal since I was only nine. I own more than 1,500 hard rock/metal CDs. I am not bragging here, but rather trying to put things into perspective when talking about this album.

This whole album is incredible. It's easily ST's best, but you got to let it grow on you for a while. This CD contains ST's best song ever, and one of my top ten songs of all time: "Asleep at the Wheel". I probably have listened to that song more than 1,000,000 times since this CD came out, and I still close my eyes and sing it out loud EVERY SINGLE TIME!!! It's a very original song, impossible to describe with words. It's magical, it's mesmerizing (By the way, you may skip the first two minutes of the song since they are very forgettable and have actually a different name - "I Wasn't Meant to Feel This").

Another great song is "Monopoly of Sorrow", especially after the 3:37 mark. This has to be one of the best song endings that I have ever herad. That combination of fast pace acoustic and electric guitars is simply top notch.

Anyway, get this CD and let it grow on you. You will not regret it.

5 out of 5 stars Hard rock can be art.......2005-02-25

When I bought this album I didnt get what I thought I was getting into. For awhile I was highly dissappointed listening to it, and to be honest I didnt like it to much. I gave 'The Art of Rebellion' some time though, and it grew on me. The lyrics can be a bit corny and annoying some of the time though, and that brings it down a half point - from a perfect five to a 4.5. Thats still really great, and perfect albums that truly warrent five stars are really far in between for me though. For anyone who wants an album they can listen to years for now (unlike those whiny emo bands who will be gone after the fad wears off), then pick up this album. You cant stop the run away emotions in me, you know... Never mind. Buy the album and you will know what I'm talking about.

5 out of 5 stars I agree--best ST album and last good one.......2005-01-19

I love this disk,I am a huge fan and like all there stuff up to this cd.after that it went pretty down hill.
every song grabs you from start to end.
a lot of people did not think it was hard enough, but it is and it has some real musical substance.i say buy it you wont be sorry. I would give more stars if I could.

4 out of 5 stars A good comeback after "Lights".......2004-04-07

This album is more like "Lights" than "How Will I Laugh" in it's song writing style but done way better. The tunes are good, not dry like "Lights" and the album feels well-produced. You'll find the songs high in content and quality but not that fast or thrashy. This is NOTHING like early S.T.'s but it is a good album nonetheless. I regard this as Suicidal's last good album. Trust me, after this, it's completely downhill in the worst way.

1 out of 5 stars Loathesome.......2007-01-08

Seriously, people like this? This album is part of the "better off not heard" section of 80s hardcore.

5 out of 5 stars Production credits.......2006-04-28

Sorry to all you guys that love Primus so much, but the Lester Claypool that produced this album is not the same guy with the big bass. that of course doesn't change the fact that this record rocks the house- turn it up and listen to just the into for "a little each day" and see if your heart rate doesn't jump up!

5 out of 5 stars A Blend of Hard Core and Thrash.......2006-03-09

I picked this album up in the mid eighties and it took about two listens to really get into it. I can say that it is probably the only hard core I've ever liked. This album is more thrash than anything and that is what I liked about it the most. They blended the thrash with hard core and a sort of rap vibe and this is the only time I ever liked that rap vibe except when Anthrax did "I'm The Man" as a goof. I guess it is the phrasing of the vocals that gives me that impression, not so much that he actually rapped.

There are some great cuts on this album and though I haven't listened to it in many years, I can still remember Join The Army and War Inside My Head.

Never got to see them live but saw them a few times on Headbanger's Ball before it sucked.

The sound is raw, loud, and aggressive and I highly recommend it.

4 out of 5 stars might be a bit generic, but still awesome........2005-04-10

of course, this is not the hardcore punk of the wonderful debut, this is more of a thrash attempt than hardcore punk.

the solos are just fantastic and the guitar and bass are sharp

fav song? war inside my head.

5 out of 5 stars Suicida Tendencies Best Album!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2004-04-23

If you don't have "join the army" and you like S.T. then you should stop reading this and get this amazing blend of hardcore and trash metal.
Best track for me: Join the army, a little each day, the prisoner, war inside my head, i feel your pain, possessed to skate, no name no words, looking in your eyes.

5 out of 5 stars S. T. .......2006-06-01

SUICIDAL!!!!!! This was my favorite band in the mid to late 80's. They were so different from the "hair" metal bands of the time. Their music is original and great. I still listen to them quite often. They are in my top 20.

2 out of 5 stars One of the best albums and bands.......2005-12-09

Well lets just say that it became kinda hard to listen to this cd because of Mike's new voice. It didnt really cut it for this one. He really screwed up songs like I Saw Your Mommy and others. I think they did this because they didnt have that much access to the first album. I would only buy it if you're a huge ST fan

3 out of 5 stars Very good but..........2005-01-03

Most of these songs were too damn short I say like less than a minute or so but they were aweseoms too. I like this band mike muirs song of word lyrics were pretty funny in institutionalized that was one of the best songs from this album that was not too short. Like I said all these songs were awesome so I gave them all 3 stars and took 2 out because they were way too short and thats kind of a waste of $10 dollars don't you think?

5 out of 5 stars 5 Star Material,5 Star Execution,5 Stars for balls to do it.......2004-10-20

I bought Suicidal Tendencies self titled debut when it first came out and way blown away by the band's intensity and musicianship. When I first heard that Cyco Miko and the boys were planning on re-recording this classic, I was skeptical (to say the least). I'm what you would call a metal/punk purist. However, Still Cyco After all These Years upholds the mighty tradition of Suicidal Tendencies and even strengthens their legacy as punk metal pioneers. I applaude Mike Muir for having the foresight and the balls to re-record these classics...and I do mean CLASSICS. Just look at the track listings: Institutionalized, I Shot the Devil, Subliminal, Two-Sided Politics, I Saw Your Mommy...the list goes on and on. This album just takes a tighter, faster Suicidal unit and does these songs even faster and better. For production values alone, this version completely shines over their classic debut. Overall, Still Cyco is a strong buy for any metal/punk fan but an absolute must-own for ST fans. Highly Recommended.

2 out of 5 stars kinda sad.......2003-07-23

i dunno...maybe Mike isn't/didn't get any cash off these songs the first time or something....wouldn't be surprised. whatever the reason/s, this album frankly doesn't work very well at all. the new versions [take] the life out of some of these songs, and even the ones that manage to survive the process sound like they're being played by a compentent but uninspired cover band....which is kinda what's happened, here. ST's first & best is what you need...remakes rarely improve on the originals.

3 out of 5 stars where's the metal and thrash?.......2006-01-06

a punk band that went metal and came back as a mediocre rehash of their punk days is never pretty. ST's punk days were raw and good. they were the part of the LA harcore punk scene and one of the best at that. near the late 80's and early 90's they went thrash metal and the name ST was put right next to metallica and bands of that nature. they evolved greatly. and then somewhere in 1997 i think..this album came out. its kind of like they grew up on how can i laugh tomorrow.. and lights camera revolution...and tried to act like immature gangsta kids here. what the hell kind of song is cyco vision?..the lyrics are horrible..the record itself isnt too bad. its a keeper to me and the speed and agression make up for the regression....mike muir must have hit a mid-life crisis here. what else would explain a pointless array of lyrics minus the metal. if you like thrash and the old ST to the end of the earth, this album will alienate you big time.

4 out of 5 stars Back to True Form.......2004-07-01

I have been listening to Suicidal Tendencies since the days when the band had only one album (you know - back before CD). Every album since the first has been unlistenable - until now. This is the first release from ST since the original that I am happy to own. Fans of ST's heavy, crunching metal influenced records, stay away from this one. If you like the punk Suicidal Tendencies, this one if for you.

4 out of 5 stars Cool.......2004-02-20

After being around for a long time, it was impossible for ST to change. This cd shows that. Its not the thrash/metal of STs earlier albums, but it's still great. cyco vision is the best track on it (its probably my favorite song EVER!).freedumb, scream out and aint gonna take it are awsome. naked and heaven sound almost nirvana-ish. hippie killer and we are family get kinda old and annoying after a while, but they still keep up the pace and versatility of this album. this album shows the efforts of a veteran punk band, and you wont be disappointed.

1 out of 5 stars WHAT ... HAPPENED.......2003-05-26

Well, I used to be a huge ST fan when i was younger, for about 11 years... but this album is just sad, I mean suicidal tendencies has always been heavy aggresive music in whatever they do, thrash/punk, but this is just [unacceptable]... there old punk was special, unique, there metal music opened bigger oppertunities and wider audiances, i remember how much i enjoyed Rockys solos, and the heavy agressive fast music, with mike muirs voclas, which would open my eyes and hit me, with such meaning and how special there music was..... i thaught if they got back together, the band would do what they do best...carry on ST they it's meant to be, heavy, agressive, powerful, the things which got them recognized and caught everyones attention in the first place, however, this album is a joke.....(MIKE MUIR, WHAT ... WERE YOU THINKING) IG is it's own thing, this is supposed to SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, my suggestions:(EITHER STOP THE BAND NOW, OR MOVE IT IN THE DIRECTION IT's SUPPOSED TO BE IN)

Well, ive been a suicidal fan for 9 years, well used to be... what happened, suicidal tendencies is supposed to be angry/aggressive punk or metal..but this i can tell you...is not ST.......see theres 2 seperate bands, infectious grooves and SUICIDAL TENDENCIES, but this i can tell you is not suicidal tendencies....i mean Rocky left, so did Trijullio, but still, Muir and Clark could still have carried on ST, they way it should be carried on........God do i miss Rock's solos, the heavy aggresive music they used to have, but this album i can tell you is not ST, Muir needs to make a change,or atleast not call this band ST, becouse it is clearly not ST, i mean my god, listen to tracks like "freedom", or "Hippie Killer," (Muir, what the hell are you thinking") if your going to get your group back together, atleast make sure it is still ST, (WHICH YOU HAVE CLEARLY FAILED TO DO)
