Guster's formula is quite simple: Take time-tested harmonies à la Simon and Garfunkel or the Hollies, pour them over pleasant acoustic guitars, and add a pinch of congas for toe-tapping made easier. Lost and Gone Forever all but screams "radio friendly!" (especially with hit-producing wunderkind Steve Lillywhite at the knobs), but luckily the final product is more palatable than that. The musical plan is occasionally augmented by an electric guitar or strings, but generally follows harmonious sounds over articulate voices. Some people will listen to Lost and Gone Forever and find it too slight and completely corny, but others will fall under the spell of Ryan Miller and Adam Gardner's full-bodied vocal blend. --Jason Josephes
Customer Reviews:
The best guster CD if not the best CD ever.......2007-04-28
I have bought this CD a year ago and to this day it remains in my stereo all the time. Every single song on it is an instant guster classic and each song is very catchy in its own way. What you wish for is easily the best opening song on any guster cd to date. The bongos perfectly blend with the acoustic and electric guitars creating the most perfect musical sound i have ever heard, even better than the catchiness of oar or even dave matthews band.
The barrell of a gun is easily my favorite guster song of all time and i have listened to it 95 times on my i pod alone. Either way and FaFa are both extremely catchy but either way is mellower. I spy is short leading into the cuter sounding center of attention and all the way up to heaven (the whistling is very catchy i whistled this song in the halls of school one day). Happier so long and two points for honesty are on the mellow side but they are still great listens. Rainy day starts off mellow and builds up to being another one of gusters best songs.
Bottom line, this CD is possibly the best CD ever made. Barrell of a gun is one of the best songs ever made. Look at their live album and notice that almost every song from this cd is played on that live album and they all sound amazing. Guster is an amazing band and once you listen to this cd it will be imprinted in your head forever.
One of my favorite albums EVER.......2007-02-05
I love all types of music (rock, alternative, folk, jazz, country, bluegrass, etc. etc.) and listen to a little bit of everything. Having said that, if I was on a deserted island for a year, this would be on my top 5 of CD's to listen to repeatedly. The harmonies are amazing, the songs are Beatlesesque, and the pacing is great (except for the last song, Rainy Day, which I think even the band admits is kind of a "downer" after the rest of the (fairly) upbeat album). I've liked every CD they've done since then, but I'm not sure if they will match the brilliance of this CD. They are great musicians, they seem to be great guys (in interviews, in concert, etc.), they have a sense of humor about themselves, and they deserve their success.
This album sucks.......2007-01-16
After buying this album based on the excellent reviews, I will always, from now on, look at the negative reviews before buying. This album sucks. This music consists of brain-dead lyrics with a presumably emasculated lead singer(this surely is a modern guy capable of crying). This is not chill-out music - it is properly classified as "modern whining". And it's not good.
the best music is somtimes found by accident :).......2007-01-04
If you are tired of all the same music you hear on the radio all day, then you should give a listen to Guster, they are original in the most perfect way.I love the powerful lyrics and great sound. just give it chance for the love of great music :)
An AMAZING album!.......2006-06-29
This is the only album I have ever voted 5 stars in my entire life. Guster is a great band, and this is the pinncale of their works. If you are new to Guster, THIS is the album to get!
See the other reviews, listen to the samples, and you will know THIS is the one Guster album that everyone should own!

Great Intro to Modern American Classical Music.......2004-06-09
I'm not a Classical Music expert, but I found "American Classics" to be a very good collection of great 20th century American Classical musical numbers. The bulk of the selections were composed by Leonard Bernstein. However, other composers such as John Kander, Max Steiner, Aaron Copland, Stephen Sondheim, Henry Mancini, and John Williams are also included on this collection. All of the selections are performed by the legendary John Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra. Williams is probably the top Classical Music conductor around today. His name is synonymous with many movie soundtracks, but on this collection we get to hear John Williams do what he does best - conduct the Boston Pops orchestra.
As mentioned, this focuses on American Music. Your not going hear Beethoven, Chopin, or Mozart here. For the most part, this is Williams and the Boston Pops Orchestra performing Leonard Bernstein (a great conductor in his own right). The music is grouped logically and by composer. Some of the music will be familiar to you and some of it might not be as familiar. You'll hear the theme from "The Pink Panther" (Mancini) as well as the theme from "Gone with the Wind" (Steiner). There is a riviting instrumental version of "New York New York" (i.e. Start Spreading the News...) that will make the Chairman of the Board, Frank Sinatra proud. Another popular selection is Aaron Copland's "Fanfare for the Common Man" - this is heard around Summer Olympics time quite a bit, but possibly not know by its actual name.
There are three tracks from the famous Bernstein musical "On the Town" and they are grouped together. These selections are among the best that are included in the collection. The first is "The Great Lover", the second is "Lonely Town: Pas de deux", and the third is an instrumental version the famous "Times Square: 1944" (i.e. New York New York, it's a hell of a town...). The "Times Square" melody I believe is the part in "On the Town" when the sailors go dancing in Times Square. Hearing this selection as an instrumental gives it a whole new dimension. There is also a nice reprise of this in Bernstein's "America Medley".
John Williams who is a great composer in his own right only has one number on this collection - that is "America, The Dream Goes On". This is one track on this collection that has vocals (although no credits are given to the vocalist(s) who sings). Although you'll hear the Boston Pops play real nicely here, it is the stirring vocals that make this one of the highlights of the CD. I consider Williams the best in the business, so I expect nothing less when it comes to him.
There are no liner notes whatsoever. I would have liked some sort of commentary of background on the pieces in this collection. As mentioned, this does hurt particularly in the Williams piece "America, The Dream Goes On". Overall, this is a great way to get an intro to modern classical music and is a nice change of pace if you don't normally listen to classical.

Customer Reviews:
not to great.......2007-04-04
We were disappointed with this CD, but for the price I guess we can't expect much. I didn't care for the new style presentation of the songs. I like a more traditional rendering.
Not so bad, 100 tunes for 4$.......2005-06-22
I red the comments of two other people who have bought this 4 CD BOX SET and it is not really so bad. I will even add that there are some excellent tunes. However, I must agree with the fact that few tunes seem to have been recorded 40 or 50 years ago, mainly when you hear the scratches of an old turntable but it is just 2 or 3 tunes. Furthermore, if you do not know American music, it is a good BOX SET to buy if you consider that you received 4 CD for 4$ including 100 tunes. On these 4 CD, I have heard some orchestration that I have never heard before and I consider that they are different but interesting. Any way, after hearing these 100 tunes, you will say to yourself that you like this tune, this other tune, this other tune and so on and you will be able to buy a more expensive CD with the tunes that you like. However, I have bought many CDs in the last few weeks and as you know, there are always some tunes that you like and some tunes that you do not like on every CD that you will buy. So, don't buy it at 25$ but at 4 or 5$ dollars, it is a very good choice for 100 tunes.
You get what you pay for........2004-07-04
You get what you pay for. The singers put their own spin on the singing of each song. If you didn't hear the words you would not recognize some of them. Even some of the music sounds like a bad recording of music played on a turntable. Definitely not worth the price.
Now I know why there were no song samples to listen to ..........2004-07-04
I wish this review had been here when I was thinking of purchasing it. I guess you get what you pay for. If you are thinking of buying this, you are better off recording your own CDs (or at least buying one that you can listen to a sampling of the songs). This album includes songs that were mere recordings of the songs playing on an old record player. It's almost so unbelievable that it is funny.

THRASH METAL!.......2006-02-14
Another band that I had never heard before, and they rock! I really like how the switched the timing up during songs, and there was a good flow to the album. Not your typical metal album, and definantly not something that you can say sounds the same all the way through! The only problem that I had with this album which is the same beaf that I have with other bands that do this, why end the album on a wussy note. The last track is watered-down and the only one that I didnot care for!
Very impressed.......2006-01-25
Well I got this album about two months ago and I was surprised that although this is labeled as metalcore it delivers more on the front of old school thrash than your typical metalcore stereotype. God Forbid relies heavely on great riffs and solos that many bands in the genre cannot accomplish. The vocal part of Byron Davis is a strong combination of heavy vocals and clean singing. The rhythm section is impressive, audible, funky bass lines and double bass drumming that is A+ in my list. Although I feel some songs have the filler feel to them but still great album from start to finish. Best songs are Force Fed and Anti hero.
God Forbid Offers A Lot For Metal Fans Of All Kinds, But Sometimes Lack In Their Singing Vocals.......2005-11-13
If there is something that is most important to note about God Forbid, that would have to be the incredible guitar talent coming from brothers Doc and Dallas Coyle. These guys can pull out some amazing riffs, memorable metalcore style breakdowns, and ferocious solos. Every song on this album contains each of the three things stated in the latter, so there is always something for anyone who likes anything within the genre of metal. The biggest downfall though is that the brothers should stay focused on the guitar and not their vocals. For the most part their vocals almost never seem to fit, and you can always tell there would be a better melody that would fit in where they are singing. In fact "Judge The Blood" is only song I can personally tolerate their vocals. Bryon Davis though, has a perfect scream for this band - well focused, understandable, and overall very powerful.
The album opens with the raging "Force-Fed" that lyrically deals with opening your eyes to the lies around you and using your ability to turn away from them. A great opener, that includes some great solos, and of course those headbanging breakdowns.
Following that, is "Antihero" an anti-war song, with the ever so classic lyrical line "When will the war against war being?" that is yelled during the final breakdown - an amazing song both recorded and live... my personal favorite on the album.
"Better Days" is one of the songs that I'd like to mention where the Coyle brothers vocals aren't the best. I feel it just brings the song down, everything leading up to that point has kept up the pace of the album thus far. But their vocals could defiantly have been without.
The next two songs following are the same as well, "Precious Lie" and "Washed-Out World", while everything else keeps things up to pace, the vocals really just don't stand out. After hearing the guest singing vocals of Tom Cummings on "Soul Engraved" it made me wish he was some how a part of this band and did the singing vocals, because his vocals were perfect for that song and could be for every singing part of this band.
"Judge The Blood" is another personal favorite, the piano is very dark sounding at the beginning and really gives a mysteriously chaotic introduction to a great song filled with some of the best leads on this album, not to mention the solos, and the last breakdown - which is PERFECT for ending the album with.
Overall, God Forbid is a great band that has everything anyone could want from a metalcore band, but just sometimes lacks on their singing vocals. I really dig the artwork and the lyrics as well! This album is defiantly worth checking out! While not my favorite CD in my collection, I would never consider it "Gone Forever", it's going to stay with me `Forever'!
Metalcore? NO, just 100% PURE METAL!!.......2005-11-11
God Forbid are an awesome band, and one of the best modern heavy metal bands out there today. In fact they're also a breath of fresh air from metalcore as well. Gone Forever was my first God Forbid cd, and words just can't describe how much I love it. It has everything: Awesome bloodcurling screaming vocals+clean singing, extreme trashing guitar riffs, badass solos, thumping bass lines, solid double bass drumming, need I say more. Byron Davis has awesome screaming vocals, and his clean singing really adds a nice touch to the band's sound as well. On this album, you've also got brutal guitar riffs and killer solos from Doc and Dallas Coyle, nice hearable bass lines from John Outcalt, and awesome double bass drumming from Corey Pierce.
The songs:
1. Force-Fed - Wicked brutal opener, and my FAVORITE song on here. Words just can't describe how much I love this song. Addictive chorus, awesome solos. 10/5
2. Antihero - Another one of my favorites More great solos. 5/5
3. Better Days - 5/5
4. Precious Lie - 5/5
5. Washed Out World - 5/5
6. Living Nightmare - Another great headbanging track. 5/5
7. Soul Engraved - Has an outro solo from Nevermore's Jeff Loomis, awesome. 5/5
8. Gone Forever - Awesome title track. 5/5
9. Judge The Blood - A great album closer. 5/5
Bottom Line: This album is a modern heavy metal masterpiece. If you like Lamb Of God, Pantera, Mastodon, Slayer, In Flames, Shadows Fall, etc. you'll like God Forbid. 5 stars all the way.
Also be sure to get their first album Determination, and the new album Constitution Of Treason as well.
right on god forbid.......2005-09-28
this is a great album constructed by very talented musicians the sound is great the songs are tight the lyrics are well written almost flawless except for the fact that determination was so much better and more brutal then gone forever but this is still a really cool album my faves on the album are antihero living nightmare and soul engraved

A Compendium of Classic Marches.......2007-01-10
The performances contained herein are very good. I only wish there were more Sousa marches in the collection. However, those that are there are well-performed and the recording is very good.

Album Description
Another great Melodic Rock import brought to you by NEH Records. Savannah is a unique rock band whose strengths are strong vocals, heavy guitar, tight melodies and a sound that defies categorization. These five highly trained artists, from two successful, early-90's rock bands, have diverse styles that blend together perfectly to create Savannah's own brand of hard-edged pop rock. The combination of strong musicianship, skillful song writing and personal and professional chemistry make Savannah a musical force. Savannah was created by former SLYBOYZ members, Dario Dipietrantonio, guitar/vocals, and Marty Olga, keyboards/vocals. Good Time Music, Slyboyz's last CD, soared to number nine on Japan's import charts (Burrn Magazine, April 1995). When Slyboyz disbanded, seasoned musicians Dipietrantonio and Olga, were ready to start a new project. Their plan was to create a new band featuring high caliber, dynamic musicians. Fortunately, they reconnected with former LORD GREY band members, Earle Lord, vocals, Marc Kolodziej, bass, and Tony Silva, drums/vocals. These killer musicians share musical vision and find that their individual talents and influences blend perfectly. Savannah's dynamic live performances owe much to the incredible vocals of Lord. His consistently powerful and versatile voice seizes the audience and holds on tight. Savannah's amazing rhythm section ties everything together with the riveting interplay between Kolodziej and Silva. The versatility and skill of these two players bring a fullness and driving groove to the band. All of Savannah's members have logged countless hours of playing out and recording. They released their first two records (Savannah, and Salem's Lot) on Z Records and are now back with their third with Max Vitello replacing bass player Mark Kildziej.

Savannah - Forever's Come And Gone.......2001-06-17
It’s been two years since Savannah’s debut album was released. It was one of my favorites that year and I was really looking out for the new album. So I was really glad when the advance copy dropped in the mailbox a few weeks back. When I put it on I had to get accustomed to One More For The Road, which has quite a different style and sound than the songs on Savannah’s first one. The keys sound really dominating, something I don’t like too much. Fortunately the rest of the album is a pleasure to listen to even though Michael Sweet’s production gives the album a bit of a thin sound. Personally I prefer the production of the first album for the guitars were much more in the foreground on that one. The choruses on most of the songs are as smooth as a baby’s bottom and very very catchy. There aren’t any real crackers like Two Young Hearts of Premonition on the album, but tracks like Last To Know, the title track and Backs Against The Wall come real close. While the other songs are very much worthwhile as - besides the opening track - there’s absolutely no fillers on the album, which actually was the case with their debut (Back In Line, Hardline). Taking all these things into account I dare say that everyone who loves the first album can buy this album unheard. It's a bit more mellow than their debut, but Savannah proves once more to be a force to be reckoned with in the AOR scene.
Savannah Rocks.......2001-04-19
Hiya! One usually sees me reviewing Selena material, this time is a change. Another change is that this one is going to be short and sweet.:)
Savannah's sound is great if you like 80's music. I especially like the title track for this album. :))
I also have one small complaint, and it's not about the album, it's about the "content" at the beginning of this page. It is taken verbatim from my friend Carol's site, which happens to be Savannah's official site.
Savannah is AWESOME once again!.......2000-12-30
Savannah's "Forever's Come and Gone" is even BETTER than their debut album "Savannah" and I felt VERY enthusiastic about that album! "Forever's Come and Gone" has all the polish and style you would expect from far more experienced bands like Bon Jovi or Poison. The sound on this album is a little more aggressive, and I think that's a plus. I had said they were something like Journey meets Boston previously. This gives them more a Journey meets Bon Jovi feel, solid melodic hard rock at its very best. This album should remove any doubt anybody may have about Savannah being a genuine contender that will be on the scene for many years to come. What can I say? DO NOT MISS THIS ONE! It's got that nice in between sound, like Bon Jovi, that should appeal to pretty much anybody who is a fan of melodic hard rock. If you're looking for some new ear candy, this album ought to do the trick. Don't forget to also check out the Y2K releases by other similar bands. I have most of them reviewed. Many of your favorites have outstanding new offerings. You may be pleasantly surprised.
