Bad Reputation
Bad Reputation
Editorial Reviews
amazon.com
That much rock & roll excess and that little sleep--it would be enough to ruffle anyone. Thus Thin Lizzy decamped to Canada to unwind from a year of incident and illness. There they produced Bad Reputation, which sounds, if not exactly laid-back, then at least damn smooth. Phil Lynott was confident enough to loosen Lizzy's atomic boogie and open his writing to jazz and folk influences, while the band, despite shifting membership, sound tighter than ever, playing with a new delicacy and thoughtfulness. Scott Gorham emerged here as a genuinely original guitarist, Tony Visconti's production sharpens the edges, and the title track, "Southbound," and "Dancing in the Moonlight" are among Lizzy's best. --Taylor Parkes

1 of 2 Blackheart Records re-release.......2007-07-01
BONUS material! Another GREAT CD by Joan Jett. I LOVE the remake of "Hanky Panky". And the live video footage..... well worth it.
Bad Reputation gets a great reputation!.......2007-04-22
I have always been surprised at how little radio airplay Joan and her band receive, especially because like more popular bands like Cheap Trick, she too picks catchy melodies you can remember and rocks them up in similar fashion. She has always been "Rock 'n'Roll" and this album proves it!
The remastering job is very clear and crisp, the vocals better sounding than my original LP, and the bonus tracks make this a real "keeper".
For anyone looking to introduce someone to Joan Jett and The Blackhearts, this CD along with "Ï Love Rock And Roll" are the two to do it with! Buy it, and turn it up!
Joan Jett's punk rock classic........2007-02-13
yes, you heard me.
This is a punk album through and through.
It is loud, it is fast, it is angry, it is simple, it is in your face. It's harder than The Ramones, but it still has that same general sound. It's wonderful. If you like Sham 69, The Ramones, Sex Pistols, The Jam, Richard Hell & The Voidoids, then this album is perfect for you. Get it. Get it NOW.
Must Have for the Joan Jett Fan.......2007-01-12
I grew up with Joan Jett, and LOVE her music. I could not find this for a long time. I originally had it on cassette, wow, shows my age, lol, but it no longer played. If you like Joan Jett, you have to add this to your collection.
WOW! JOAN JETT, HAVE SEX WITH ME!!!!.......2006-11-15
Ok, release date for this remaster says 1998, but this is the first time I've ever seen this on CD where it wasn't a 45 dollar import. And I've been looking. BAD REPUTATION was Joan Jetts first, and without a doubt best album.
This disc came together when Joan Jett decided that the band she was in at the time, The Runaways, were becoming too pop oriented. She may have only been eighteen at the time, but she was sick of the boundaries put up by being in a teenage-girl group (even though, they started out pretty sleazy). Joan Jett packed up her stuff and hired her own producer to help her put together this amazingly hot rock and roll album.
The cuts here are perfect for a young Joan Jett. Some old school rock tracks like Wooly Bully and Hanky Panky are a ton of fun to rock out to. THen theres those sexy cuts like DO YOU WANNA TOUCH ME, MAKE BELIEVE and the title cut. I frikin dig that voice. I always wanted her to pop out of the stereo and smack me around. YEAH!
This is before the Blackhearts and has a little bit of a different feel than say, I love Rock and Roll.. but its so good, you will forget about the other stuff. Very raw, and mostly fast paced rockers!
This for a while has not been easy to get your hands on. Its available now,.. you should get it.

Thin Lizzy - Didn't know how good we had it.......2006-07-21
Don't know what you got until it's taken from you.
What a band and what an album.
Again, you CAN'T go wrong purchasing this album.
From strength to strength.
1. Soldier Of Fortune- Typical loose and powerful Thin Lizzy. Love those guitars!
2. Bad Reputation - Listening to Scott Gorham play on Bad Reputation seals the deal.
3. Opium Trail - One of the few leads Brian Robertson plays. Solid.
4. South Bound - Incredible. One song I NEVER get tired of playing at loud levels
5. Dancing In The Moonlight - Surprisingly my least favorite track, and it's still great!
6. Killer Without A Cause - Powerful and pounding. Didn't Iron Maiden lift the riff on this one? Well, kinda : )
7. Downtown Sundown- Great tune, Slowing down the pace. Awesome bass work throughout.
8. That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart - A slight hiccup. Not bad but not great either.
9. Dear Lord- Phil exorcising his demons. Back to form again!
A solid chuck of 70's hard rock music.
Almost 30 yrs later this album shows the power and intensity these guys had.
Go get all of Thin Lizzy';s stuff and see what quality is all about.
Get hooked now! It's not too late!
Phil Lynott RIP. I wish we still had you with us. Your music has meant so much to so many people.
good album.......2006-06-24
Bad reputation is a good album and all the songs fit well together, unlike Jailbreak and johnny the fox. They're good albums but I just didn't think all the songs fit well on them like "Fight or Fall", "Emerald" on Jailbreak and "Sweet Marie", "Old Flame", "rocky" and the appauling "Boogie Woogie dance", I just felt that they let down those albums, with all the other songs being great.
Bad Reputation has some awesome songs like the opener "Soldier of Fortune", "Bad Reputation", "Southbound" and "Dancing In The Moonlight". The feel of the album is good and has a mix of styles but they all fit well together. I especially like the breakdown of "Killer Without a Cause".
Thin Lizzy would have been better though if they hadn't used bad technology or recording styles to make their songs because it makes some of their stuff sound dodgy and just commerically tacky.
People wanting to know or find out about Thin Lizzy! dont get anything before Jailbreak (It's not too bad but its not worth getting) and don't get anything after Bad Reputation or Live & Dangerous, because that is when Thin Lizzy's sound became really bad commerical rock. Albums to get is 1.Jailbreak,2.Bad Reputation, 3. Johnny The Fox and for their live album "Live & Dangerous"
one of Lizzy's best.......2006-05-04
this is one of my fav. Thin Lizzy cds. it's has lots of different cool songs.
Killer with a good cause.......2005-11-23
The first thing that comes to mind is: Hell, they could sound "pop" and still be hard rockers. So why they never played on radio, with few exceptions like "boys are back in town".
Bad Reputation is an great effort to make Thin Lizzy a successful band without losing their style. It is clear that they mixed here on this record the rawness from Jailbreak, and the experimentations from Johnny the Fox". So, it's an album like "midway", but never half succeeded. No way, this is really a good piece of 70's hard rock, even better than most of the trash done during 80's and 90's when it comes to hard rock.
A sad mark to this album is the fact that it is the last time Robbo and Gorham put their guitar to fight together in a studio. But what a great way to say farewell to arms! I prefer Robbo a little bit, but Gorham is terrific, there ain't no such thing as a bad riff from the beginning to the end.
Some people may consider this album kinda laid-back stuff, but try to sse from another side, it's hard rock, with melodic phrases, without being glossy or fancy.
Really heavy tunes: Bad Reputation - opium trail - Killer without a cause
Other great tracks: That woman is gonna break your heart (the most beautiful Lizzy's ballad, along with Sarah)
Southbound- highway style song
Soldier of fortune - great opening track, beautiful guitar solo
Anyway the whole album is great, except maybe for Dear Lord, but, any song put after That Woman... is simply unfair.
In a four years space, those guys sent to the world such gems as Fighting, Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox, Bad Reputation, Live and Dangerous and Black Rose. Man, I mean, they were at least AWESOME!
A forgotten jem from a forgotten band (at least in America).......2005-08-28
This is pure genius, pure melodic hard rock, pure fantastic songwriting by the late, great Lynott. The guitar work is just sublime: listen to the solo in "Dancing In The Moonlight", or to the gentle opening lick in the beatiful "That Woman's Gonna Break Your Heart". The album also has its rockers, like the drum-pounding title track, "Killer Without A Cause" and "Opium Trails" which both have a Brian Robertson (now here's a true rock n' roller) signature riff. Phil Lynott graces the album with sublime lyrics, real poetry, just listen to the great "Southbound". A real great rock album.

Album Description
The groovy riffs of Anthony de Lemos, the rocky voice of Lex gives a true tonality to the whole of the album. Of course, the influences are present and do not fail to be highlighted. One retains especially this spontaneousness an this freshness related to the carefreeness of a young duet far from the current tendencies. Mixed by the famous producer Mike Fraser (AC/DC, Aerosmith, Van Halen etc..). 11 total tracks. Bad Reputation. 2005.

ROCK AND ROLL like it's supposed to be!.......2007-03-06
These guys have it all, soulful, urgent, yet rocking vocals, tight powerful battery, and a bagful of angry GEETARS. This album is the best I have bought in many years. It has a great mix of late 60's heavy Detroit rock, garage rock and a little punk thrown in for pace (on some of the quicker tunes) There isn't a lemon on the whole disc (though some of the lyrics are a bit cliched...the band is so good overall you will barely notice) In short: Amateur hour is officially over. Hopefully, they will get a USA deal and come over here and mop up the clubs. If you like the MC5, the Stooges, SRB, and later bands like the Hellacopters and the BellRays, etc... these guys won't disappoint you.
Michael Davis (Bassist of the MC5) said of these guys:
"What the MC5 wished we could sound like. Maybe the fact that we didn't grow up in the 1990s in a small town in Sweden was the problem."

David Glen Eisley.......2006-10-25
Depending on your own point of view, you're probably checking out the listing for this album for one of two reasons: Earl Slick or David Glen Eisley. Dirty White Boy featured both of those individuals. Slick played guitar for David Bowie, and Eisley was the voice of Giuffria.
Dirty White Boy is a hard rock band. I suppose it's easier to say they were a hair metal band, but you get a bit more from their 1990 debut Bad Reputation than you would from the average Ratt or Faster Pussycat CD. For one thing, there's probably no such thing as an "average" band with David Glen Eisley on vocals (though to be fair I'm still not thrilled with his Stream album). The man has a powerful soulful voice that, when combined with Slick's guitar work, injects a bluesy swagger to DWB's music. This is the kind of music that if you heard it playing at your favorite local bar you'd start nodding your head and thinking "yeah, maybe I will have another round". It's melodic, and there is an obligatory ballad on the album, but for the most part you're getting a full-on, hard rocking party album.
Bad Reputation is not as polished as the Guiffria albums, so don't expect ultra-slick AOR here. If you liked Eisley's solo albums or bands like Thunder, Little Angels, or House of Lords though, you're going to want to add this one to your collection.
The track listing is as follows:
1. Bad Reputation
2. Lazy Crazy
3. Let's Spend Momma's Money
4. You Give Me Love
5. Dead Cat Alley
6. Hammer on the Heart
7. Hard Times
8. Soul of a Loaded Gun
9. One Good Reason
