Judging by this 12-song debut, the powerful, heavy, and distinctive nu-metal band Adema have the songs, sound, and connections to succeed. Where pull in powerful places is concerned, singer Mark Chavez is the half-brother of Korn's Jonathan Davis, but Chavez and his cohorts have the goods to go the distance on their own musical merits. Drummer Kris Kohls, a veteran of Videodrone, bashes with Tommy Lee-like power, while Chavez's wide-ranging vocals are appealing, distinct, and intense. From "Giving In," which tackles alcoholism, to the ironic bitterness of "Close Friends," to the epic closer "Trust," Adema create a soundscape that is modern, heavy, and aggro--without being juvenile. With stellar production skills, topical lyrics, and a vibe that's current without being too trendy, Adema have promise to burn. --Katherine Turman

4 out of 5 stars Baby Korn makes big boy music.......2007-04-13

Adema is most definitely not as good as Korn, but this is a fairly solid debut album from a band that had to come out of Korn's shadow (Singer Mark is Jon Davis' half-brother.)
"Giving In" is the best and most recognizable song by these guys, and will be the only one that put them on the map during their career.
Mark is no longer the singer after the second album, and the third album really sucked, so Adema is dead.
At least we have this album to remember them by when they were relevant.
It can be listened to completely through without skipping any songs. No filler.

4 out of 5 stars It was a pretty good album........2006-09-03

I bought this album after hearing "Giving In" and "The Way You Like It" and liking them both. I thought hey they've got some good songs so I wanted to check out more. It turned out to be a pretty good purchase. No the band itself doesn't have the most unique sound but that doesn't stop them from writing good music. Just because something sounds like what's out now doesn't make the music all of a sudden bad. You have to ask you're self if this would be a pretty groundbreaking album if it was the first. Anyway I thought it was alright. My favorite tracks from this are "Blow It Away", "Giving In", "Skin", and "Speculum". Here's the rest of the tracks rated...

    1. Everyone - 9/10
    2. Blow It Away - 10/10
    3. Giving In - 10/10
    4. Freaking Out - 9.5/10
    5. The Way You Like It - 10/10
    6. Close Friends - 8.5/10
    7. Do What You Want To Do - 6.5/10
    8. Skin - 10/10
    9. Pain Inside - 9.5/10
    10. Speculum - 10/10
    11. Drowning - 7/10
    12. Trust - 7.5/10

    Overall: 89% B+

Anyway, the albums alright and worth checking out If you like the band. It may not be the best album you will ever own but it sure is worth a shot.

5 out of 5 stars The one and Only.......2006-05-22

Well, I suppose if you're a die-hard metal head, you'll claim this cd a Korn spinoff; but I loved it. Every single song gives something to me; what a depression that all the other Adema cds, in my mind, suck horrible monkey balls. Here I was, listening to a fantastic cd; I search and download songs from other cds, hoping for the chance to hear wonderful music once again. Alas- NOTHING. Its not just the absence of Chavez that ruins their latter cds, there's something missing. I am not a Korn fan, but I love this initial album; I love the fact that there is a pleading manner to all the songs, and I love the fantastic music. Highly reccommended; especially 'Giving In', The Way you Like It, and Speculum. On the latter; how can you not enjoy a song about abortion?
I can not claim to be an Adema fan, since this is the only cd I like. And, since I am in the minority with this mindset, there is little chance that they will bring that music back to life. Death to Midnight Panic; I had thought they would bring that music back, and they didn't.

4 out of 5 stars They had promise.......2006-03-09

Now with rap-metal dying out (thank god) you'd think that this would be that last album you'd want to buy, but it actually held some promise for this band. Mark has a strange voice, and yes he sounds like his half brother Jon a bit, but he is different. This album shines when the rapping is left behind. In songs like the single "GIVING IN" and "CLOSE FRIENDS" and the closer "TRUST" and even though songs like "THE WAY YOU LIKE IT" may be entertaining...the rap thing has been done so much it's tiring. "EVERYONE" was a great way to open and "BLOW IT AWAY" was killer. My favorite track here has to be "SKIN" which is deep with lyrical meaning and will just blow you away. I was so impressed after listening to this album and just knew that with time they would find their nitch and perfect it and then blow us all away with their next album...but alas, that didn't happen. 'Unstable' almost came and went without any notice. Yes, I own it, but it's not that great a CD. I have not heard 'Planets' yet but I hear that since they dropped Mark and got a new singer that their music is much better and I wouldn't doubt it. Mark wasn't terrible, but someone else could be an improvment. This album us a good buy becasue it balances out the tolerable with enough good songs that show where this band should have been headed.

4 out of 5 stars No More Korn Jr........2006-02-19

I know many people will hate me for saying this, but I'm glad they dumped Mark Chavez. Besides being the problem child of the band his voice made Adema sound like Korn. Maybe that's a good thing for a bar band, but Adema has solid musicians that deserve to be themselves not Korn Jr.

There are five 5 star song on this abum and if you think that Chavez was the band and you are unwilling to listen to Adema now with Luke Caraccioli's voice I would say that you never were a Adema fan - you were just a Korn Jr. fan.

2 out of 5 stars One hit wonder........2007-01-12

This CD is completely pushed by the song, "Unstable". All other songs are blander, mainstream-ish types, and the other track, "Immortal", is a lyrical disaster. I mean, it is simply repeating "You can't kill me, I'm immortal." - Like it's a revelation to people, that the word "Immortal" means unable to be killed. Overall, this CD is only good for that one song. If you have an Ipod, Buy the track, if not, simply disregard the rest.

3 out of 5 stars What happened here?.......2006-03-16

So this isn't the worst CD ever made but it's far from the best, and it's far from their debut. The first single 'Unstable' is a great song, and 'Promises' although feeling a little forced is still decent...but the problem here is that other than 'Rip the heart out of me' (which is still not great) the rest of the CD falls flat and becomes very forgettable. They had so much promise with their debut that for this album to come out with no support and dismal sales and then to really (for lack of a better word) suck the way it did is sad. So now they've dumped Mike (the singer) and thats probably for the best since his voice just doesn't fit. I know what you may think...he sounds just like Jonathon Davis, but Jon makes it work and Mike just couldn't...Anyways, it's sad they had to go out like this...I hear that 'Planets' (the bands effort without Mike) is decent, but still not much success is coming their way. Oh well. Maybe next time.

    4 out of 5 stars Adema's last good album........2005-03-28

Well I've listened to the new Adema album, Planets, and it's just not the same without the lead singer, Mark Chavez. The new singer's voice doesn't have anything that draws your attention like Mark's does.

Anyway, I believe Unstable is Adema's greatest album (and most likely last greatest). People complain about lack of depth in the lyrics; however, this lack of depth makes it easier to relate with situations in your own life. The best songs are:

    1. Co-Dependent
    2. Rip the Heart Out of Me
    3. Stand Up
    4. Unstable
    5. Promises
    6. Blame Me
    8. Stressin' Out
    12. Needles

    4 out of 5 stars Unfair Guys.......2005-03-24

I'm sorry to all of the hardcore Adema fans that slag off this album but come on this is ace! so much better than their self-titled album that they released a few years ago. musically adema have moved on lightyears and now they actually play music that is in time with each other an in the same key. i highly recommend this album
    best songs:
Rip The Heart Out Of Me 10/10
    Co-Dependant 10/10
    Stand Up 9/10

4 out of 5 stars Good Cd, recommended........2005-03-02

Most people arent happy with this cd, but thats because they expected something different. What this cd is, is fun listening, theres no originality, or bold statements. This cd has fun lyrics, and is meant to be something you can relate to. The best songs on here are Promises and Blame Me, those 2 are back to back gold. Overall, give it a shot, this is their last cd, because the singer split with them late last year, which sucks but just give it a shot.

    Album Description

Adema are veterans of the Bakersfield, CA music scene: drummer Kris Kohls has played and recorded with Christian Death, Brides of Destruction (featuring Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue), and Videodrone (the first band signed to Korn's record label Elementree); bassist Dave DeRoo has played in SexArt (Jonathon Davis of Korn's original band). The new voice of Adema, Luke Caraciolli, brings immense talent and enery into the mix, guiding Adema's sound into a new, more mature direction. A standout in the Southern California rock scene for years as frontman for Rewind Yesterday, Caraciolli possesses passion and control reminiscent of Maynard Keenan and Brandon Boyd.

5 out of 5 stars Get away from Nu-Metal, congrats.......2006-11-09

This is just simple, regular, GOOD rock. In fact, when I got it I was astonished by the different sound. While Old Adema was good FOR THE TIME, this is much better. Most people wont agree because they like rap rock and like the Korn, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit sound. I personally, with the exception of LP, don't. Adema goes from sounding like a Korn, LP, Deftones mix, to sounding like straight up rock.
New singers voice is very good and while it doesnt fix old Adema AT ALL, it is very good. VERY GOOD. Old Adema ALWAYS had tracks that were the most annoying songs out there at the time mixed in with their solid tracks. Gone is the rap/metal, in is better singing (sorry for old the Old Adema fans) and straight up rock.
This will NOT be for everyone, especially HARDCORE old Adema fans, but pick it up if you arent familiar with Adema, or want to hear something different and better. IF you like Old Adema, hey, your not alone, but listen to this CD as if it were another band and you will enjoy it 50 times more.

    2 out of 5 stars Don't Expect Adema.......2006-09-24

Bands in the past have done fine pulling off a change of singers...Adema is not one of them. I loved their first few releases, and this one is not half bad...it's just not Adema. If they announced a breakup and started a new band with this new singer I would probably really dig this album. However,I bought this album expecting Adema and got a completely different CD. This album has a cool and interesting sound...but it sounds nothing like Adema.

    5 out of 5 stars Amazing But...........2006-06-12

This album really is very very good. I was apprehensive to buy it knowing that the lead singer had changed. Being a huge fan of the first 3 Adema albums *including the Insomniac's Dream LP* I didn't think I could like Adema without Chavez. But then I heard the 4th track on the album 'Sevenfold' and I was astounded at how good they were. I immediately went and purchased the album. The new vocalist has some amazing talent and the whole album has a very rock/metal feel to it as opposed to the more punk/grunge/metal feel that the older albums had. I highly reccomend this album because I enjoy it a lot, it still makes it into my regular rotation of CDs in my car and that says a lot seeing as I have a collection of 900 or so. The only negative thing I have to say about this is that it doesn't sound like Adema and when I listen to them my first initial thought is 'they should have changed their name' not 'wow this is a great album' I think that bands should changed their names when they get a new lead singer or a new lead guitarist...just because that changes their entire sound. It seems most people on here agree with that.

4 out of 5 stars Album is better if you don't expect Old Adema.......2006-01-17

I have to admit I wasn't thrilled to find out that this album wasn't the Old Adema - Marky Chavez. But their first album was so amazing I figured there had to me more to them than just their lead singer. So I bought the album anyway, and kept telling myself not to expect Adema.

The first time through I heard some promise, but was very disappointed with some of the vocals. Now that i've had a chance to adjust to the change, I actually really like the album. Most of the songs are good to quite good, and a couple are very good (Tornado & Better Living Through Chemistry).

They probably should have changed their name - they are a totally different band - but if they had I never would have bought the album. So in the end, i'm better off because they didn't!

If you're willing to try something new, I recomend this Album. If you're only looking for Chavez, google "Midnight Panic".

1 out of 5 stars Irony strikes once again........2006-01-13

For one thing, this CD did suck. I think mainly it was because Luke was singing in the band. I mean, I have respect for him as a singer, of course, but him and Adema do not mix. His voice doesn't suit the name, and following Mark Chavez and his voice? Definitely not a good idea.

I think him reuniting with Rewind Yesterday was the best thing he's ever done!
This CD sucked... bad. You may start to like it after a while, but that's after you get over the idea that you're listening to the new, not NU-metal Adema.

Besides, Mark Chavez is in Midnight Panic, and I heard is CD is out now, but only through this one website.
    He's on Myspace too.

So, Adema is nothing now. Sucks for them! Maybe Kris should try singing. Maybe he could make it sound less Nu-metal, because they're so fond of breaking the scene.

I give props to Mark for being apart of this new band. I hope his stuff his good! I wouldn't doubt it!

    Right, this is a review.
Only go for the old Adema albums.
This one is Pop. Pure. Pop. There is barely any ROCK!
    Look out for Midnight Panic.

4 out of 5 stars Great CD, wish it was longer.......2006-01-30

Love most of the songs on the CD, I wish there were more that sounded like Immortal. Adema is definately one of my favorite artists.

1 out of 5 stars an insult to alice in chains.......2005-09-17

first off, the song nutshell, is not an adema song. It's an alice in chains song! anybody that thinks that it's an adema song is retarded! And yes they did really did screw it up, it sounds horrible. The the AIC masterpiece is 100x times better. End of story

    4 out of 5 stars Not bad.......2005-06-05

To be honest, I only started to get into Adema, when I heard Immortal on Mortal Kombat:DA.

Not bad, although Unstable is the better album.

3 out of 5 stars It Was OKAY .......2005-03-11

The first 2 or 3 songs on this album are the best, but it gets weird in Adema's own way. My fav song on it is "IMMORTAL" because it rocks harder than any other song besides "Nutshell". I just think they are the best ones. At least in those songs, this band is enjoying themselves and that is pretty nice to hear along with the hard, hard energy of the cd.

The weird thing about it is that Adema were doing things their own way, and yet, that almost makes it better, but it still only deserves 3 stars because of the greatness of the opening of the album. I'd say it gets a B- for it's strong effort with being good. It tried very hard, but didn't quite make it. The closing of the album was my LEAST favorite because it's like they just gave up on the good songs...or something like that. It's hard to explain. I hope this was a little helpful for ya. Hasta Lombego!{or...however you spell that word}.

4 out of 5 stars I'll give it four stars too.......2004-02-17

First off, the debut is clearly their best work. Every song on that is good.

Now, this CD. This is quite nice. I like the acoustic deviation in the third song as compared to the rest of the CD.
The second song has an interesting instrument combo that makes it my favorite on the CD.
The first song is nice; it is my second favorite.
Latter bits of the CD are cool too, like tracks four and five. The radio edit is busted; I'd rather dispose of that.

The composition of the album is a bouncing around of different styles, but that's why this is an EP. Very good overall.

Forget this. Two of three tracks can be found on the Insomniacs dream EP. The demo of "Blow it away" is horrible. The video of "Giving In" is kind of cool but that can be found on the Mediocre "Insomniacs Dream" as well.

Giving In(radio mix) Where is it different than the original? If you can find one difference E-mail me.

Shattered- Actually one of Adema's better songs. It should've been on the full length. But... you can get it on "Insomniacs dream"

Blow it Away(demo)- horrible. Adema should be a full time studio band. They aren't really good live either.

Giving In Video- Cool but you can get it on the "Insomniacs Dream EP"

First get the Full Length Self titled debut(its pretty good). Then if you have some extra cash, maybe consider getting Insomniacs Dream. Don't waste your money here.
