5 out of 5 stars Can't wait to get it!.......2007-07-17

My 12yr old introduced me to WT via her love of Anime and similar sites. Very similar to Enya, Enigma and Evanescence, yet vocals and instrumentals VASTLY more mesmirizing and worthy! So much so I bought 2. One for each of us! Looking forward to it! Her's is a surprise.

5 out of 5 stars Amazing!!.......2007-07-16

This is Within Temptation at their best! Every part of this cd has feeling to it. I'f your a fan of bands like evanescence I recommend Within Temptation..and really this band holds their own. GREAT CD!! GET IT!!

5 out of 5 stars Worth the money .......2007-07-04

I looked everywhere for this CD. Trust me, you can't find it. That said it's one of the best CD's I have bought in the past few years. The vocalist is compelling, and the overall sound is great. They're a lot like Nightwish soundwise, but the lyrics are much better in my opinion. Worth the money any day.

5 out of 5 stars I shouldn't have spoken so soon........2007-06-06

I've heard only a few songs from Within Temptation and had avoided them for years after. They didn't gain much attention from me because I wasn't impressed by what I heard (I was expecting a bombastic first impression). I was wrong to do so because I took a listen to them again not too long ago by watching the video for "Memories" and I became highly interested in them. I downloaded "Jillian" and after hearing an awesome intro, I was enraptured completely. I ordered this cd without hearing the rest of the tracks. I rarely do such a thing. "Pale" and "Memories" are gems.

This album has a high range of hauntingly imaginative atmosphere that few bands, Leaves' Eyes in particular, can produce. While having a solid theme to this album, W.T. put various emotions and atmospheres into each song. This is a good trait because it keeps us interested for a long time and usually has the listener repeating the tracks. Why didn't I see this sooner? I am always eager to hear different bands and different material.

This will go into my ever growing music collection.
I recommend Leaves' Eyes because, they too, are able to grow on to the listener, while keeping them in a prolonged trance. I regret the fact that I have avoided this band. Might I also mention that Sharon actually does have a wonderful voice. I have another lady to grace my tons of Anneke Van Giersbergen, Liv Kristine, and Cristina Scabbia vocal contributions.

4 out of 5 stars Wonderful Music.......2007-05-07

For those who are drawn towards any music like Enigma, Enya, or Evanescence, this cd has alot of great tracks. I recommend it to anyone who has such taste in music.

5 out of 5 stars A TRUE FIVE STAR ALBUM IN A BEWILDERING SEA OF THE UNDESERVING.......2007-07-07

I know it's not going to happen but I think that a one to ten star rating system would make it far easier to rate an album more accurately. The reason I bring this up on this particular review is because I know that from time to time I too am guilty of giving a five star rating to an album that perhaps doesn't quite deserve it. However, this is not one of those times; this IS a five star album.
This album is first-rate in all respects, from Sharon's beautiful vocal performance and the guitars - which were all recorded in Holland, to the drumming - which was recorded in Belgium, to the full orchestra and choir - which were recorded in Russia, with each recording location being chosen for its individual capacity to contribute to this recording. It is obvious that no corners were cut in the production of this album, and it is clearly evident upon first listen, this album sounds magnificent. This album starts off brilliantly, has some even higher points along the way, and then ends even more brightly than it began. This is a very impressive and rewarding album, and has become one of my favorites. And for me this is very high praise to be sure, primarily because a band with a female singer will just about never make it to an album that I would rate as one of my favorites. However, this is certainly nothing against female singers, I just prefer the sound of a singer like Brian Johnson, Dio or Bruce Dickinson. (That doesn't make me gay does it?) And because of this preference if I had a single critical thing to say about this album it would be that at times Sharon's voice does get a bit on the high side. Conversely though, I am sure there are many that will enjoy this facet of her voice, and over and above any sound preference one might have, her vocals are always appropriate to the music. Furthermore, and far more worthy of mention is the fact that Sharon has an absolutely gorgeous voice, which easily rates as one of the best female Rock/Metal voices ever, not to mention she's pretty damn easy on the eyes. (Did I mention that I'm not gay? - Not that there's anything wrong with that.)
Now, as is natural I suppose, I also feel compelled to compare this album to their previous album, 2001's 'Mother Earth', which some say it is better. However, I would like to make it known that I actually own both albums, and have for quite some time now. Consequently I have no reservations in telling you that in my opinion, with all things carefully considered, this album is without question a better offering. But by only a small margin though, as 'Mother Earth' is also a fantastic album, and a fantastical album I might add, that in comparison I would rate 4.5 stars. I won't get into the differences here, because the differences are substantial, and it would take a bit of explaining. Just trust me when I say buy this album first, and if you like it (and you will like it) then buy 'Mother Earth'. But just be prepared to hear something much more imaginary and grandiose. FYI, I also own WT's latest album, 2007's 'The Heart Of Everything', another exceptional album which I would also rate 4.5 stars. And believe me, I am not indiscriminately doling out praise or being liberal or charitable, these albums have earned their ratings. I think three rock solid albums in a row is an amazing accomplishment, and damn near unheard of, but believe or not WT has done it, as there is no filler to be found on any of these albums! And this amazing accomplishment certainly did not happen by accident, as Sharon said in an interview; "we do feel a lot of artistic pressure to write beautiful music" - "we are very critical of our music, a great deal of our ideas and songs are thrown away, and that's why it always takes us so long to write a new album". This is true, WT has only been releasing a new album once every three years. Which granted is a long time between offerings, but this should only be seen as something admirable, and deserving of praise, as releasing an outstanding album every three years is without question a whole lot better than releasing a marginal album every year.
In conclusion, this album, 'The Silent Force' is one of those albums that I just can't recommend more highly. Buy it now! I honestly don't see how anything but delight could be found. (Did I mention that I'm not gay?) :-)

5 out of 5 stars A Deal at Twice the Price.......2007-04-13

This CD was worth every penny: soulful, operatic, and yet still grounded in fire-and-fury, balls-out rock. "Stand My Ground" is a beautiful testimony to strenth and individuality, "Aquarius" gains points for the mythology reference, and "Angels" simply stunning. If you need a reason to by the CD, listen to "Angels."

5 out of 5 stars Exellent! Within Temptation's best album........2006-11-16

If you liked Evanescence's album "Fallen", then you will probably like this album. Good rock beats combined with soaring, operatic vocals to make a musical experience that I never get tired of listening to.

5 out of 5 stars My first WT cd.......2006-07-07

Being a huge fan of gothic metal bands such as Elis, Midnattsol, Leaves' Eyes and of course Nightwish, I have always wanted to check out Within Temptation but their cds aren't available in the states at regular prices. Thankfully I received a copy of the band's most recent album "Silent Force" from a friend. I immediately took to the music right away. It definitely goes without saying that Sharon Den Adel has a gorgeous voice. I personally thought her delicate vocals were eerily reminiscent of both Sarah Brightman as well as Liv Kristine of Leaves' Eyes/formerly of Theatre of Tragedy. The music in general is an epic proportion of metal laced with sumptuous goth melodies which often veered off into opera territory at times. I loved all the songs on the cd. All of the songs had a nice balance between the heavy metal guitar riffs and delicate goth melodies.

2 out of 5 stars boring.......2005-08-26

After their great success with "Mother Earth," it seems that Within Temptation is struggling to find a niche in the music world. I loved "Mother Earth" and its fusion of musical genres. I eagerly anticipated the group's next CD. I was disappointed in this newest release. There are no songs that leave any lasting impression to speak of, and the songs tend to sound boring and repetitive after the first 3 cuts. For those of you who loved "Mother Earth," don't bother buying "Silent Force."

I like the music but am not happy that only the mpg plays on the computer and I can't get to any of the songs with my winamp... If I had known that I would not have bought the CD...

5 out of 5 stars Top band of their time........2007-06-22

Within Temptation is one of the best bands that I have heard in years. With Sharon den Adel's hypnotic voice, you are pulled into the song. The enchanting symphony ignites the hauntingly beautiful vocals.

"Memories," plays across the soul and burns you with the desire to remember and embrace life.

Simply amazing.

3 out of 5 stars Beautiful and empty........2007-06-20

So, here's the thing: After the release of Enter and Mother Earth, Within Temptation decided to release a more commercially geared album that's completely different from their two previous releases. Now, it's not a bad thing when a band decides to recognize a more mainstream crowd; it's only a bad thing when they go about it in the wrong way- sort of like Within Temptation inevitably did.

Now, this LP has some magnificently composed songs that feature the wonderfully angelic and professionally dynamic vocals of Sharon Den Adel...and granted, most people such as myself can pop it into the CD player and listen to the whole thing through, completely hypnotized by its beautiful sound.
Unfortunately though, if you peel back the layers, there isn't much else to be found. Within Temptation has seemed to sacrifice the personality of their songs, that can be heard in their previous releases, for an almost too perfect and beautiful sound and cliché lyrics.

Honestly, the fact that Within Temptation has taken most of the heart out of their songs doesn't bother me too much, considering there is still a beautiful sounding album on hand...but I definitely wouldn't suggest this album to you if you are looking for something filled with deep meaning and lyrics that a writer has put their heart, sweat, and soul into.

5 out of 5 stars powerful and enchanting.......2007-03-17

Silent Force, by Within Temptation, is a very strong CD. It displays a delightful mix of rock and symphony. The vocals are very strong and beautiful.

5 out of 5 stars Where has this band been all my life?.......2007-03-14

My roommate discovered this band for us by watching fan videos online. We instantly fell in love with Angels and that one song was the basis for me purchasing this whole CD for her for Christmas. We listened through it together for the first time and we are hooked. The beautiful lilting voice of the main singer is haunting and the instrumentation is quite amazing. I was utterly impressed and have recommended this to most of my friends, several of whom are as addicted as I am to Within Temptation.

5 out of 5 stars dc cooper and silent force are showing no signs of losing their edge. this cd is killer.......2007-06-29

man i love silent force. dc cooper is to me one of the best vocalist out there and no one can sing like him. some other greats are lance king and john west. and alexander beyroot(spelled wrong) is a killer guitarist. if you like guitarist like manni schmidt of grave digger and viktor smolski of rage then you will love alex's playing. any way on to the songs. like the last album worlds apart this cd is extremely catchy and mellodic and full of crunchy riffs. worlds apart is one of my 10 favorite cds of all time and i did not think they would ever be able to make another album as good as it. this cd is not as good as worlds apart but is dang close. this cd is a force of its own and a killer come back. silent force have the ability to be one of power metals mainstays and i hope they put out alot more albums. some awesome ballads on this cd and some killer anthems. this cd is very diverse and full of memorable songs that catch you from the first listen and that is what i love about these guys, if it is a silent force album then i know right then that it is going to be awesome. so check this out and if you do not own worlds apart then you better get it. any metallian that loves catchy choruses and screaming guitars will without doubt love this and all of silent forces albums, hell get all 4 of their cd's. i some times wonder why the name of the band is silent force, it is a cool name but when their cds are in my player their is nothing silent about it. your friend in metal brandon whitson, 25 of north carolina

5 out of 5 stars They do it again!.......2007-03-09

Tell me, can these guys make a bad album? So far I've been blown away by every album I've picked up by this band & there seems to be no sign of them slowing down. 'Worlds Apart' is Silent Force's third album, & it continues to show how this band brilliantly takes power metal to another level. OK, so "brilliant" might be a bit of an exaggeration, but in a world full of power metal bands it's nice to be able to identify bands that stand out on their own & not sound completely like all of the other well known bands that are on the scene such as Primal Fear or Metalium, or maybe even the almighty Hammerfall. I still think so far 'Empire of Future' is the best album from Silent Force, but believe me you won't be disappointed with ANY release from this band, & this one is definitely no exception!

3 out of 5 stars Decent power metal, but DC can do better.......2006-03-22

I must preface this review by making it clear that I am a huge DC Cooper fan. I'll buy just about anything he lends his amazing voice to, and generally think he walks on water. That said; I am disappointed with Worlds Apart. Truthfully, I'm disappointed with all three Silent Force albums.

DC Cooper is an immensely talented vocalist. I love his work with Royal Hunt, and his solo album is one of my all-time favorites. That's why I hate to see him waste his time with Silent Force's cookie cutter power metal. This is the same kind of music plenty of other bands are playing. The only thing that makes it stand out is DC Cooper. Worlds Apart is probably the worst offender. The band name, logo, and cover art all scream "budget" and if I didn't know who was singing, I wouldn't give the album a second glance.

I'm not saying Silent Force makes bad music, or that Worlds Apart is a bad album. It's actually a decent power metal album with great vocals. I just expect more from DC Cooper. His kind of voice is much better suited to the kind of melodic hard rock he gave us on his solo album. The Frontiers label has a really good track record when it comes to taking established vocalists and giving them melodic rock "project albums" (see Jorn Lande and Russell Allen's the Battle, Michael Kiske's Place Vendome, and Tony Harnell's Starbreaker albums). I can only hope they will hook up with DC at some point and come up with an album that is truly worthy of his vocal talents.

        4 out of 5 stars Much Better..........2005-01-07

Infatuator left me wondering what the hell had happened to DC. I went ahead and "bit" on Worlds Apart and am glad I did. The two albums are completely different. Gone is the monotonous double bass and sound a like songs. This album is one anthem after another. The only drawback is the production. All the sounds run into one another, unlike ARK burn the sun or anything from Sym X. If you are into melodies and driving rythms than get it. Leave infatuator alone.

        4 out of 5 stars Excellent.......2004-11-26

I'm a fan of DC Cooper. His vocals are incredible, and they really shine here in this latest album by Silent Force. This is truly good power metal. Heavy, powerful, and as importantly, pretty upbeat. The CD is quite long - you'll get your money's worth for sure. This CD is just around an hour's length.

There are some great tracks on this CD: "No one lives forever", "Once Again", "Iron Hand", and "World's apart" are all great pieces of music. However, not every song on this album is a hit. Most of the songs are decent, but unlikely to grab your attention and make the hair stand up on your spine like good music will.

        + Good:

        Long, get your money's worth.
None of the tracks are actually terrible.
A few tracks are really awesome.
        Keyboards not overdone, thank god.

        - Bad:

The music can become background noise during some songs, can get dull.
Only a few really "GREAT" songs, most is cool but nothing extraordinary.

Overall: I think this is an excellent album. Nothing bad, some really great tunes, plenty of play time, definately worth buying.

4 out of 5 stars High Octane Power Metal.......2004-10-10

This is the third album from Silent Force,a band fronted by D.C. Cooper the former singer of Royal Hunt.
Not too different from the previous disc Infatuator.Worlds Apart is high octane Power Metal with lots of double bass drums and speedy guitars and of course the super high vocal notes of Mr. Cooper.
The keyboards are better on this one with some cool trade offs with guitar. The guitarist is obviously from the Yngwie Malmsteen school of guitar playing.Sounding like a clone at times.Just listen to the track Merry Minstrel where he completly borrows from an Yngwie track called VooDoo.( found on Magnum Opus. )
D.C. is clean and powerful as usual, hitting notes only Tony Harnell from TNT can hit.
Most of the tracks are fast paced rockers,Worlds Apart,Heart Attack,Hold On and Heroes are favorites.
I would have given this 5 stars had they stretched out a bit and added a little more Progressive elements to this album. They are all exceptional musicians capable of more than just paint by numbers Power Metal.Even if it is top notch Power Metal.

        Album Details

Within Temptation's Album 'the Silent Force' is an Exhilarating Listen - a Monument of Opulent Melodies, Sweeping Orchestral Elements and Tremendous Power. Like their European Counterparts Nightwish and Opeth, They have Intertwined an Otherworldly Sound with a Slow, Brewing Power that is Like a Classical Symphony of Old.

        5 out of 5 stars Glorious.......2006-12-23

Within Temptation is a talented band from Holland or Netherlands if you prefer who's lead singer is Sharon den Adel and she's as pretty as her voice is. There's a video of one of the songs on the album and she's a knockout. The music is symphonic metal with orchestral and choir backing. It is highly melodic and enchanting. If you know and like the band Nightwish then this is for you.

Some of the best songs are "See Who I Am", which starts with a huge sound then smartly slows down only to come back with the big catchy chorus, "Jillian (I'd give my Heart)" is just great with it's gigantic intro followed by the choir and Sharon's impeccable voice on the choruses and Stand my Ground" is slick the way it starts out sedately then explodes into a "don't mess with me" warrior mentality with the orchestra and choir. "Angels" is kind of appropriate with a heavenly Angelic sound and what can you say about "Pale"? Has there ever been a prettier melody in a song? This version features Jane Doe, which is actually one of their better songs and is fairly hard to find.

Taken as a whole there isn't much variety since each song does resemble the others but that homogenous sound doesn't bother me. In some ways it reminds me of a fine musical score where a change of style could be jolting.

I am really amazed that there are people that gave this album less than four stars. From beginning to end it's a great album. Is it better than their previous blockbuster, Mother Earth? It's close, I'd say probably not but only by the slimest of margins.

        4 out of 5 stars Great.......2006-12-07

After an exceptional debut with the album "Enter", many fans felt a little bit dissapointed with "Mother Earth", a very operistic piece compared with brutal songs like Deep Within (from Enter). Overall, Mother Earth is not a bad album, but too different from the first one. Silent Force is, in some way, a coming back to their roots, with nice vocals but also with the taste of real metal.

Check the DVD, is amazing. There is a release (imported from the UK) that includes a couple of bonus tracks (Destroyed & Jane Doe) and a DVD with four songs from a Germany concert. The production of the DVD was remarkable: high quality video and superb audio. A videoclip (Stand my Ground) is also included, and seems there was enough budget because is really well done.

        5 out of 5 stars Worth it.......2006-11-10

I'm sure the first thing most of you are going to see is the price tag. Honestly, it does seem a bit steep, even for an import. And when you can get the same cd minus two bonus songs for half the price, why not go the cheaper route?

While I don't typically spend so much on a cd, I must say this is worth it. When I heard "Jane Doe" on a message board I frequent, it immediately became stuck in my head. I had to have that song; it was so amazing.

The whole cd is just as good. The closest I can compare it to anything would be Evanescence. But as much as I love Evanescence, and with all respect due to Amy Lee, I must say Within Temptation is better. Sharon has a crisper, better-trained voice. The intensity given to each song is astounding. I certainly got my moneys worth from it.

As for whether "Destroyed" and "Jane Doe" are worth paying twice as much as the same album without, it was for me. "Jane Doe" is what started my obsession. "Destroyed" has become my number one favorite.

But even if you decide to get the version of this album without these two songs (which if you haven't personally heard any of their music, may be the smart way to go), rest assured it's well worth the money.

5 out of 5 stars Another solid release from this great band!.......2007-04-07

If you've seen my other reviews for this band, you will see that I hold them in high regard in the power metal genre & for good reason as once again Silent Force puts out another great release! I will say that this album didn't instantly hook me right away compared to the others, but it does start to really pick up from track 5 & on. Also, this sounds like Silent Force's most mature release to date & if they are able to continue making killer songs in this fashion then they can only flourish to bigger & better heights.

4 out of 5 stars Melodic power metal.......2007-03-27

This is the fourth release by Silent Force, an international band consisting of four German instrumentalists and an American singer. They play melodic power metal, a style that is popular in Europe, but deserves to be heard more in the United States. This CD is a fine release, not quite as strong as their second, Infatuator, but still an impressive mix of riffs and melody. The songwriting is first class: all the tracks on this CD are engaging, and the CD sustains interest throughout the 60-minute running time. This band goes in for complex arrangements, so that overdubbed guitars and keyboards create a dense wall of sound. This CD would rate five stars, except that the sound engineering is not quite up to the same standards as the music.

4 out of 5 stars Terrific melodic metal album.......2007-03-18

This album follows a familiar script for melodic metal. It steps in the footprints made by bands like Gamma Ray, Savatage, Allen/Lande and even Dream Theater. The music is decent, but not groundbreaking, which is why I give it 4 stars, not 5, even though I enjoy it greatly. The solos are great, the rhythm guitars are strong, and the drumming/bass is solid as a rock. The album is very well produced. However, the biggest reason I enjoy it so much is DC Cooper's vocals. He's one of the best (if not THE best) out there. His voice is just perfect for this style of music. If you're into melodic metal, I think you'd like this album a great deal.
