Not Bad...Not Great.......2007-07-25
This disc has gotten great reviews from numerous sources. And not just from die-hard L.A. Guns fans who would rave about anything the band put out on the market, regardless of who was in the band. And, for about 10 years, it's been nearly impossible to tell who IS in the band at any given time. Both on record and live.
That said, this is not a bad cd. But it certainly isn't great either. It's the 2nd disc of new material released since Phil Lewis rejoined the band around the turn of the millenium. It's great to hear Phil & Tracii back together again and the cover-art by Maxine Miller is excellent. In both look and sound, it appeared that vintage L.A. Guns were back at the top of their game.
There's only one problem...the songs! Tracii Guns continues to be under-appreciated as a guitarist and Phil's voice seems to be in fine form but something is missing. That energy. Attitude. Spark. That chemistry combined with great songs that made releases like "Cocked and Loaded" superb are just not here. It's an o.k. cd. And loyal L.A. Guns fanatics will love it. However, for the rest of us, it's just an average to good recording. So, I can't recommend going down to your local record store and dropping a $20 bill on this one. Sorry Tracii!
Super RAd.......2006-05-09
One of the best releases from the Guns, period. Their newest album "Tales from the Strip" rivals this one, but Waking the Dead is a masterpiece in its own form. There are some godly riffs from Tracii, killer vocals from everyone's favorite frontman Philly Lewis, and all the tracks are fantastic. The songs are very well produced and the bands' songwriting majesty really shows through on this one.
In conclusion...Killer album. I hope the L.A. guns make tons of money of this album and maybe theyll even be...LOADED.
Traci Guns screwed up ............................2006-04-21
Traci, you helped write this cd, you play lead guitar on it and then when the Guns went on tour, you quit them for Brides. F Traci Guns. This cd is excellent. Its LA Guns brand of metal, raw, yet produced w/ class. Oh and by the way, Stacey Blades does real well as THE LA Guns guitar player, he outperforms Traci, has a better demeanor and is a showman. Waking the Dead is another fine release by LA Guns.
Thats the shiittt!.......2005-09-28
As simple as this. If you like killer riffs and straight-from-the-hip rock, this album rocks from start to finish.
An unexpected gem this late in the game for the real Gunners!!!

Customer Reviews:
Highly recommended.......2002-08-20
This pricey UK import CD filled a lot of gaps in my music collection and is an excellent overview of notable music of (mostly) recent films. It's difficult to find consistently listenable soundtrack collections like this, by that I mean free from the obligitory Whitney Houston or Celine Dion embarrassments. Usually rights issues prevent comprehensive compilations like this in the US, too. While I enjoy a lot of soundtrack music, there aren't so many complete soundtracks that I would care to own, some examples of exceptions being Ennio Morricone scores and the About a Boy Soundtrack. While certainly most of these tracks are the actual recordings used in their respective films, I noticed that "La mamma morte" from Philadelphia is not the Maria Callas version. There might be other cases like this, I'm not sure. And "Unchained Melody" from Ghost is an orchestral version, not the pop song (but I consider this a plus). This collection seems to focus on the subtle and quirky, yet melodic music of indie films, with less emphasis on the loud sweeping orchestral scores of major Hollywood hits, but of course there are a few like Gladiator and Braveheart, which are welcome here because like I've said, I probably wouldn't listen to the whole score. I love the two Thomas Newman compositions from American Beauty, and it's good to have some music from films by the Cohen Brothers here. My only complaint would have to be the order of the songs. You would think they would avoid jumping back and forth between pop songs, orchestral scores, and quiet music, but it just seems thrown together by random. I would compare this collection to the excellent "Miramax Films Greatest Hits" but the makers of that album knew to group the two pop/rock songs at the end.

Customer Reviews:
Great Album.......2007-06-11
I have to disagree to a point with the last reviewer. Swerve and Burning TAO are two of my favorite songs on the album. There are some awkward moments in regard to vocals on the album, but all in all, it's a solid effort. The two I found myself skipping most are Monster and Emptiness. They're still good songs, but I like the rest of the album better.
Anyways, if you're even remotely a Clay People fan, buy this album. You won't regret it. I've been a fan for years now and have all their releases besides one that was only released in Germany.
Not the masterpiece I was expecting after 9 years, but..........2007-05-23
Waking The Dead does have its high points. I pre-ordered the album from the band and have had the time to digest it fully. This marks the first album that Daniel Neet and Co. has made since 1998's self-titled album(Which was a great record). So after a 9-year wait, was it worth it? Well, yes. At least half of it anyway. Surprisingly, what makes this album weakest is the vocal delivery. Daniel Neet has always had the most unique vocals...very low and haunting. He experiments with his vocal range on Waking The Dead with mixed results. When he sings low, he sounds great. But, there are many songs on here where his vocals are VERY off-key and he ends up wailing in a very wierd way, like he does in Burning Tao. Another hard one to digest is "Swerve" which is a great song ruined by funny sounding "Na na nas". "When Heavens Fall" has melodic, yet heavy cascading guitars. Unfortunately Daniel Neet's vocals dont fit the feel of the music in this song. Other than that, its a fine album. The musicianship is tight, the production clean, and Dan Dinsmore jazz-style drumming is on key as ever. This is a fantastic hard rock album that balances heaviness and melody quite well when the melodies are on-key and appropriate. The high points of the album are Supersonic Overdrive, which is a great straight-up rock song with tough-as-nails vocals, Waking The Dead is another great highlight with a hard-rock approach and an eerie chorus that explodes at the end with grating screams/yells. There is still the tribal Killing Joke-esque feel to their music with certain songs. Other highlights include Monsters(great original melody in chorus here), Never Give Up(another awesome chorus), Emptiness, Failure, etc. The only real skippers are Swerve, When Heavens Fall, Anchient One Interlude, and Burning Tao. So, if you are a fan and like the 1998 album or even the more stripped-down brutal records like Iron Icon and Stone(10)Stitches, then I will recommend this to you. Just be prepared to be thrown off by some really odd singing at times. I fully support this band and its good to have them back. I hope this album at least gives them enough exposure to make another record sooner than 2016! The Hard Rock album of 2007.
Enjoy

Great Music - Great Message.......2004-06-04
Great new CD!! I bought it because I have been a fan of Stryper and drummer Robert Sweet for years. While Stryper's music was awsome in the 80's ...don't expect this CD to sound like Styper (and that's not a bad thing). Blissed has a very modern raw / hard sound. Don't let the song titles fool you... the song lyrics have a very positive message of hope. Robert Sweet's drum playing is better than ever. Check it out... you won't be dissapointed.
Awesome disc..........2004-04-10
This new band really rocks...
The whole disc is really solid from start to finish.
Highly recommended!!!
