5 out of 5 stars A Scorpion is Born.......2007-05-13

You can hear the early talent of the Scorpions shining through on "Rainbow." It is not as commercially known as their 1980's releases, but it is nonetheless packed full of great music driven by intricately woven guitar work around great drumming and vocals. I began listening to the music on Fly to the Rainbow as far back as 1983...and continue to play it today. It is definitely a keeper!

5 out of 5 stars Awesome........2007-02-23

This is an awesome album. The songs are very trippy in some spots and very definitely in the 70's psychedelic rock. Great guitar work.
The only negative is that the album is short.

5 out of 5 stars Scorps rule.......2007-02-08

This is the album that got me hooked. Too short but super example of a group on the way up.

5 out of 5 stars HIGHLY RECOMMENDED FOR METAL MEATHEADZ.......2006-10-02

Most METAL people will probably say the SCORPIONS suck or that they are GAY and what have you. They only know the 80's material and unfortunately, the SCORPIONS probably do not play this kind of material anymore.

ULI JON ROTH and his solo band is the only unit keeping this monumental music alive. Mere words will do this recording an injustice. The only thing I can say is that if you are a fan of RETRO 70's heavy rock, then you must seek this and LONESOME CROW by the SCORPIONS, for you would be truly missing out.

5 out of 5 stars Mindblowing.......2006-03-06

An absolute classic from Scorpions. Meine, Roth, Buchholz are all amazing on this album.
I grewup listening this and other Scorpions albums of that era, 20 years later it sounds just as fresh. Also check check out Tokyo Tapes... what I woundn't do for the live footage of this!

4 out of 5 stars 4.5 stars - underrated Scorpions masterpiece.......2004-03-30

Fly To The Rainbow (1974.) Scorpions' second album, and the first to feature Uli Roth on guitar.

It's hard to believe that by the time the Scorpions released their SECOND album, they had already been together for NINE YEARS! What's even more astonishing is that Fly To The Rainbow, the band's second album, came a full TEN YEARS before their biggest hit, Rock You Like A Hurricane! The average Scorpions fan is left dazed and confused after hearing the band's 1972 debut, Lonesome Crow, since it sounds NOTHING like the later band. Does the band's sophomore effort do the same thing, or is it a step toward the material we know and love the band for? Read on for my review.

The band kicks things off with a classic hard power rocker entitled Speedy's Coming. Of all the tracks on the album, this is probably the one that sounds the most like the band's eighties material that most fans know and love. The highly irregular rocker They Need A Million comes next. For this track, the band takes on somewhat of a Spanish sound. As weird as this may sound, it makes for a pretty interesting track. Drifting Sun, Fly People Fly, and the title track are all interesting little power ballads that almost certainly won't fail to please. It's such a shame the band's albums with guitarist Uli Roth are long out of print and underappreciated by the average Scorpions fan, different as they may be from the rest of the band's material.

Overall, Fly To The Rainbow is an excellent album. Unfortunately, it and all of the other albums from the band's period with guitarist Uli Roth are long out of print, so if you want to find this underrated masterpiece, I recommend eBay or your local used compact disc dealer. Don't overlook the Scorpions pre-eighties material - it could end up being the biggest mistake of your life!

5 out of 5 stars An over looked pice of GOLD!.......2002-09-04

This early work put out by the SCORPS...shows their greatness and what they had to offer the music world. With some of their best members also!! With some very unorthodox music to beautiful guitar & drum work. Wild 'metal' of the day..i.e.-SPEEDYS COMING-to FLY PEOPLE FLY. I feel this album is totally underated and under apreciated. This is one album, if you like the SCORPIONS, you should definately have...or at least give a chance.!!! ENJOY.

5 out of 5 stars CLASSIC ULI SCORPS.......2000-06-01

THIS IS DEFINITELY ONE OF ULI'S FINEST WITH THE SCORPIONS. MY FAVORITE TRACK HAS TO BE DRIFTING SUN WHICH I CONSIDER A METAL CLASSIC. THIS ALBUM/CD GETS OVERLOOKED ALOT BUT IT IS SOLID THROUGHOUT! SPEEDYS COMING IS PROBABLY THE MOST KNOWN TRACK AND ROCKS BUT IF FIND THE WHOLE TRACK LIST EXCELLENT. KLAUS'S VOCALS ARE GREAT AND RUDY SCHENKER IS THE RIFFMASTER EXTRAORDANAIRE! IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN OLD SCORPIONS GIVE THIS A LISTEN!
