Masterful--Funny, Creative, and in Control.......2007-06-30
I'd heard a variety of Rodney Dangerfield one-liners in my time, but always wondered, is it possible that an entire album of one-liners could be that funny? Absolutely! Dangerfield is an example of a comic whose delivery and persona perfectly match his subject matter. The lines come out of him non-stop, each one relying on his sad-sack persona for the extra bit of pathetic humor.
What's most impressive about Rodney Dangerfield--and I'd say the same of Jackie Mason when I saw him in concert--is the absolute mastery and control that he has over his material and the audience. There are several instances of heckling during his set and he quiets them down with a quick retort and doesn't so much as skip a beat. At the end of the album he answers some questions from audience members and shows a flair for both improvisational humor and the ability to tie audience comments back to his own material. I'm stunned that I got this CD for about $7. You'd be hard-pressed to find a better comedy value anywhere. (Just for your calibration purposes, my favorite comedians are "early" George Carlin, Robin Williams, Mitch Hedberg, Woody Allen, Steve Martin, Bill Cosby and the Sklar Brothers.)
Its Rodney! Of course it gets 5........2007-05-16
The world is a much sadder place without Rodney around. If you don't get some good hard laughs from these classic Rodney-isms, run to the hospital and try and get resuscitated. Hopefully its not too late.
To all the women on Internet dating sites who love to laugh and want to find a guy who can make them laugh, buy this and fall in love with Mr. Dangerfield.
Dangerfield's classic album.......2007-01-10
Good old Mr. Dangerfield created an amusing personna that he used to great effect. Here are some very classic jokes for those interested.
I MISS YOU, RODNEY.......2006-11-06
WOW, 40 MINUTES OF RODNEY DOING HIS STAND UP ROUTINE, THE ONLY THING BETTER WOULD BE 80 MINUTES! TRULY IRREVERENT, POLITICALLY INCORRECT, AND LOTS OF FILTHY DIALOGUE, THAT'S WHAT MAKES IT SO GREAT! IF YOU LOVE RODNEY (AND WHO DOESN'T?), THEN GET THIS CD, IT WILL MAKE YOU LAUGH!
One of the greatest standup comics, period...........2006-08-29
Who are the great standups? Everyone always says Pryor, Dangerfield, Carlin, and Seinfeld (personally, I like the TV show better than his standup). This album and Rappin' Rodney (as of this writing is NOT on CD! What the f--k?) are totally amazing. I favour the Rappin' Rodney album myself, not because of the title track, but because the monologues are priceless. Rodney almost managed to make a few damn good films as well, like Caddyshack, Back to School, and Easy Money. I really don't get into standup, because there hasn't been any comedian/comedienne today that can even come close to the hilarious stuff that Dangerfield comes up with. Dangerfield is a great inspiration to many late bloomers, as he didn't restart his comedy career until he was 42, proving that you never too old to start something new. And besides, there aren't that many young people (especially today) that really know about life. RESPECT your elders, respect Rodney. He earned it...

stick with No Respect........2007-01-10
This is another live performance of Mr. Dangerfield's. There was much overlap in the material from No Respect. Still if one is a big fan it is worth having.
Rodney was even funny clean!.......2002-01-12
Though the sound quality isn't quite up to par on this show recorded , Rodney's jokes definitely are. He sounds a little more low-key on this recording, as it sounds like it's a small crowd there to see him. But as always, Rodney delivers the funny.

It's a shame.......2007-05-20
It's a shame that this band came out near the end of teh heavy metal era. For their 1st album it was very good. I would have loved to see what they could have done on their 2nd & 3rd albums while metal was hot.
One of the most overlooked bands of all-time.......2006-11-24
I first heard about Davy Vain from the band Death Angel. He produced their incredible "Frolic through the Park" album, and after a show in Cincinnati, DA guitarist Rob Cavestany told me that I would be floored when "No Respect" hit the streets. He wasn't kidding.
To call Vain "glam" really doesn't do them justice. From a strict musical standpoint, they were far more talented and diverse than most of the metal bands who were around in the late 1980s. They weren't gimmicky, which probably contributed to their lack of record sales. If they had simplified it a bit, like maybe Warrant or Britny Fox for example, they probably would have sold millions of records. They were too good for their own good. And their live show was outstanding, too.
The only negative thing about "No Respect" is the occasionally cheesy lyrics. To this day, I can't listen to the chorus of "Aces" without laughing.
I still have an original copy of this on CD (vinyl, too), and I listen to it at least every couple of weeks. It has definitely stood the test of time.
No Respect Indeed.......2006-06-30
This band came out just a little too late. I bought this cd in 88 when it came out and with all the other glam bands that were out at the time there seemed no room for Vain. I have been listening to this disc for 18 years solid. Too many stand out tracks on this disc to mention, no filler here. If you like your metal raw and sleazy, definitly for you. Buy, Listen and Enjoy.
glam in the 80's.......2006-02-28
great sounding cd. one of the coolest glam bands of the 80's.
still putting out cd's to this day. great sound, great look and great band. pick it up if you like bands like: ratt, crue, ect.
Must have for your collection!!!.......2005-10-27
I've loved VAIN since the day they hit the streets. I was lucky enough to be at the taping of "Beat the Bullet" in SF California. Not only do are they a rocking group but great in person as well. Buy this CD...you won't be disappointed!

Excellent historical record.......2007-02-15
The best "sleaze rock" album ever recorded in my opinion. When it came out, though, I used to always wonder how long it took these guys to get dressed and made up and if they slept (or passed out) with their makeup and jewelry on.
A album that deserves respect from a veteran producer........2006-10-13
Yes before fronting his own band in 1989 Davy Vain was a producer for the group Death Angel. Here he unleashes his passion which is glam rock compared to the thrash metal he produced for Death Angel. It starts off on the right foot with "Secrets", and then continues the momentum with "Beat The Bullet", it drops off with the next song, and I wish not to remember it as it was just horrible, but then it makes up for it rather well with "1,000 Degrees", "Aces" is o.k., but it's not really a worthy hit, the next song IS!!!!! My favorite "Smoke And Shadows" it's probably one of the darkest songs I have ever heard. I feel that the second side was a bit hit and miss "Down For The Third Time" is worthy of mentioning though. They were supposed to release thier second album in 1991, but then of course "Along Comes Nirvana", and all of a sudden glam is slammed, so Vain walks away in vain, and not gaining any respect. I'm sure that the faithful are out there to keep the name alive, but if not please Trivial Pursuit don't forget them.
Awesome Music.......2004-01-21
Since my original copy bit the dust I looked for another. I can't find them in the local record store, and finally found them online. The music is great, the vocals are superb. I used to use this tape as vocal warmups before band practice.
deserved respect.......2003-09-14
vain is an underrated & under-exposed band who deserved more recognition in the 80's & 90's.a great sleaze-rock sound and look
only add to the talented band members.songs like "icy", "beat the bullet" (little mtv airplay) & "no respect" are only the beginning of this great cd.anyone who loved glam rock bands from the 80's & 90's should own this cd.i only wish this music held on into today.buy this cd, it's worth it.
