The title of White Zombie's first mainstream success promises some good, trashy fun, and boy does this album deliver. White Zombie is not a nihilistic, the-world-is-rotten heavy metal band; on the contrary, one doubts that they're in danger of taking anything too seriously, and the humor is audible in every riff. La Sexorcisto is rife with distorted guitars, snippets of dialogue from horror movies, and songs about fast cars ("Black Sunshine"), loose women ("Grindhouse (A-Go-Go)"), and the generally weird. Don't think about it too hard; sit back, relax, pop a cool one and crank up the stereo until it shakes your ceiling. -- Genevieve Williams

5 out of 5 stars The last thing Rob did that had balls...........2007-06-17

A lot of people think that this album is inferior to Astro Creep. I guess I would agree with that if I liked whiny vocals and techno/industrial beats, but I don't. La Sexorcisto is such a great album because it was one of the first metal cds that had groove and that made you want to get in a mosh pit and hurt someone. The band actually sounds like a band on this cd, and Rob sounded like some big bearded biker that you didn't want to mess with. He went from sounding like that to doing some fake whiny manufactured voice on the rest of output, starting with Astro Creep. Also, John Tempesta, while being techically a better drummer than Ivan DePrume lacks the feel and creativity that Ivan had on La Sexorcisto. This is probably not his fault since i'm sure Rob had the final word on most of the drum beats. All in all, I think Rob should have stuck with what he did best... grooving metal with some damn balls. I do like his movies though. Devil's Rejects was one of the best horror movies i've ever seen.

3 out of 5 stars not exactly the best..........2007-06-05

i LOVE R. ZOmbie's solo work so i thought for sure this would get my rocks off...WRONG! thunderkiss 65 and black sunshine are awesome songs but the other songs are filler material. skip this disc and get R. ZOmbie past, present and future cd.

4 out of 5 stars Rob's major label debut........2007-05-14

I love everything that Rob Zombie has done, but the White Zombie years were special. To everyone who likes his solo stuff, but maybe isn't familiar with the old school Zombie, do yourself a favor and check them out. Classic songs, great riffs, and monster fun. "Thunderkiss '65" is one of the best metal songs of the 90s.

5 out of 5 stars Great.......2007-05-10

Great album! Is my favorite white zombie; have had since I was twelve! I had to purchase another copy because mine was destroyed when i took it to work.

2 out of 5 stars OK.......2007-02-15

I do not know what it is about AMERICAN BAND. It is like FORD or CHEVY vs BMW or TOYOTA. Something is missing....its get bored after all. Not to mention from the start, it does not have that exciting refreshing kick to it. UK bands and Scandinavian bands some how GETS IT.

5 out of 5 stars An debut album worthy of all 3 years of touring.......2005-06-17

Though not the old WZ crews first album (if you count underground) it is still a great way to start off. Featuring classics like Thunderkiss '65 and Black Sunshine, as well as all of the other songs that are not as well known, they should be. This is a good album, reminescent of Alice cooper with a punk rock/metal edge. If you like any of Zombies other efforts, you will enjoy this. Same goes for if your just a plain horror movie fan. you will quickly find yourself addicted.

5 out of 5 stars The best White Zombie Album Ever.........2005-05-31

Now there are a bunch of reviews for AstroCreep 2000 claiming it's a much better album than any of the others. However, I am here to say that La Sexorcisto - Devil Music Vol. 1 is simply the best. I have many fond memories as a teenager listening to this album. The Audio samples leading in and out of songs on this one is much better than on Astrocreep, and musically this album has much more depth. Don't get me wrong, Astrocreep was a good album, but it doesn't touch the craftsmanship of this one. So if you are a White Zombie fan and you liked Astrocreep but haven't heard this one yet except for a few songs, prepare to be blown away. I would suggest listening to this whole album in its entirety in one sitting, the flow from track to track is amazing.

This album takes you for a ride from the very beginning to the ending audio sample "A few of these sentences have already begun to take root in your sub-concious mind, haven't they? If you play the record a few more times, you'll be amazed how easily you have begun to understand..."
