OUTBURN
A relentless collection of aggressive, powerful, and melodic thrash metal, carefully countered by dazzling displays of virtuosic mastery.
Product Description
What is there to say about CHILDREN OF BODOM that hasn't been said yet? In the last six or so years, the band that darted to international fame with their debut, 1997's Something Wild, has gone from being "this amazing band from Finland" to a household name in the Int'l metal scene. Their home country of Finland has been a fantastic breeding ground for metal music for years now.
After recording Follow The Reaper at Peter Tägtgren's infamous Abyss Studio, the band decided to return to the loving arms of a long-time associate, Anssi "Viiksi" Kippo, and the bowels of Astia Studio. The result is nothing short of breathtaking! Not only has the band taken their songwriting to new levels of aggression and heaviness, but also the way the songs are presented literally pummels everything they have done into a pile of smoldering dust, making sure the path of destruction is complete. The time is now - JOIN THE HATE CREW! -1st new album in almost three years! Massive anticipation amongst the international metal community. -Fourth full-length from one of metal's leading acts. -CHILRDEN OF BODOM has received platinum single and gold album awards in their native Finland. -Produced by Peter Tagtgren (Dimmu Borgir, Immortal, Hypocrisy, Marduk) at the famed Abyss Studios in Sweden.

This is good but FOLLOW THE REAPER is better .......2007-04-24
This was my first Bodom album. I immediately liked the music. But I didn't dig the singing. I came around I love it. They are all extremely good at their instruments. No weak links. I personally think the best song is ''Angels Don't Kill''. They are also extremely good live. I got to see them, incredible. Alexi Laiho is probably the best guitar player to emerge in the last 10 years. However as the title said. I think Follow the reaper is a tad better.
Short review :D.......2007-03-01
From a Texan
In short these guys used to be... well... like metal gods to me. THEY ROCKED!!! But sadly Children Of Bodom (this is the part where you cringe from the reviewer's discust) grew old to me within like 2 years, sadly. So although they are pretty great, soon they will turn stale, kinda like what nu metal does. But still this review shoundn't turn you away from this album if your like... not a very old metalhead, like lets say if your less than a few years old to metal you'll probably love Children Of Bodom to say they are like THE GREATEST!!! So yea, if you like the thought of a metal band having melodic influences in it, then you'll love this band (oh yea, some girls I know love this band also cause of Alexi Laiho's hotness haha). The older metalhead dudes might ummm wanna go the other way n check out Negura Bunget, Drudkh, Agalloch,Orphaned Land,Isis,Krisiun, and Vader. Peace y'all.
Catchy but not as good as previous work.......2007-01-17
I thought this was a good album, it was a new turn for Bodom but not for the better. Needled 24/7 is a great opening track and a very catchy riff and chrous but the rest of the songs on the album I don't feel much for other than Hatecrew Deathroll and possibly Bodom Beach Terror/Angels Don't Kill. Other than that this album is pretty straight forward it has the same feel throughout the entire thing and not much different other than there is a lot of keyboard work on this album. If you are just getting into Bodom you probably want to pick up Hatebreeder, Follow the Reaper or Something Wild, wait til Bodom sinks into your skin before getting into Hate Crew Deathroll.
Fast, Melodic, its the f*ckin' Hate Crew!.......2007-01-15
Children Of Bodom have been around since 1997. They are a great band that deserves alot of credit. They, imo, are the leaders of melodic death metal. Hate Crew Deathroll is one of the bands best work. From the melo-thrash anthem 'Needled 24/7' to the end riff of 'hate crew deathroll' this album is perfect. The riffs, the basslines, the drum fills, the black metal vocals, its all here. I cannot stress enough how good this band is. The only problem with this album is that after the song 'hate crew deathroll', there is still 3 minutes of silence. I'm stuck there thinking, wtf? but its all okay because its the end of the album so you can just stop it after the song is over.
Best songs in order
1. Angels Don't Kill
2. Six Pounder
3. Triple Corpse Hammerblow
4. Needled 24/7
5. You're better off dead
6. Bodom Beach Terror
7. Hate Crew Deathroll
8. Lil' Blood red riding hood
9. Chokehold (cocked n' loaded)
Best album of 2004. No doubt.
An Amazing CD that is a MUST have COB ALBUM!!!!.......2006-11-10
Half of the people leaving reviews have the stupidest things to say about this album. I have collected COB's CDs since the first release of "Something Wild." I Loved them all. Then came along Hate Crew Deathroll. I have not witnessed amazing Guitar, KeyBoard, and Drum playing since the early age of Pantera, Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, etc.
Alexi Laiho (Ranked #46 out of 100 on Metal and Hard Rock Guitar List) is amazing at what he does making all of his Guitar riffs and solos so unique, compared to half of the new guitarists these days who copy old riffs and solos from 80's and early 90's Metal Bands. Then there Janne Warman playing the Keyboard like no other. That is why he is ranked #82 out of 100 Keyboardist of All genres of rock. His solos are so fast that sometimes it seems impossible that Yngwie Malmsteen could ever play guitar fast.
My favorite song on this album would have to be "Bodom Beach Terror" (Track 4). Awesome vocals that draw you closer to the song with an awesome guitar solo and a very fast Keyboard solo leaving you breathless. The whole CD is perect. Considering I own all of their CDs this is my favorite one because of the awesome metal roots displayed along with talent and originality. Get this CD.

Ok... it's different.... But it's still an amazing CD!.......2004-06-30
Reading the previous comments about this CD it seems that people are trying to make it out to be a disappointment. I have been listening to Children of Bodom since 'Something Wild' came out, and I wasn't at all disappointed by this CD. OK... it would take something miraculous to top 'Hatebreeder', which is by far their best album to date, but why should the fans pin COB into a corner?
In this album it is obvious that COB have decided to make a record that breaks the mould... if they were to bring out another formulaic album, almost exactly the same as the last, it wouldn't have done well in the ratings would it?
There are some fantastic new sides to COB shown in this album. Yes there are fewer solos, but this CD is far more diverse than any previous album and every single track on this CD has something special/unexpected to look forward to... (and there ARE still lots of solos in the CD, just not as many as before!)
Basically there are two reactions to this CD.
If you are looking for more of the same, or a rehash of their previous albums, with hard-hitting songs coupled to lots of searing solos, then this CD will only be a four star record for you, and some parts of it you may even dislike.
However, if you are more open minded and willing to embrace COB's creative development... (it takes a lot of balls to play around with a winning formula) then you will realise that this CD has so much experimentation and interest that you don't need so many solos, and you will enjoy it immensely.
This is an awesome cd.......2003-12-18
This cd is so amazing, i cant explain it. Follow the reaper was my first cd(also incredible). This one isn't as extreme though, but its still amazing. Highly recomended.
Bodom, Bodom, and More Bodom.............2003-04-28
I have been a huge fan of Children of Bodom for about four years now. I have seen them live at Metal Fest, and even met them at an autograph signing at said Metal Fest. Something Wild, their first album, was a tremondous effort by this still young band. Alexi Laiho with blazing guitar work, and Janne, the keyboardist, with his equally fast keyboard melodies make this band what it is. Something Wild was fresh, raw, and one of the best sounding debut albums I have ever heard. Though the lyrics were somewhat cheesy, the music more the made up for it. Why pay attention to lyrics when the ripping guitars, catchy keyboards, booming bass, and thundering drums are making your ears bleed?
Since then Bodom has definately matured and developed as a band. Hatebreeder, their second album, was even better then Something Wild, sounding a lot more polished and tight.
Hate Crew Deathroll pretty much leaves off where Follow the Reaper did. To me, Hate Crew Deathroll sounds very similar to Follow the Reaper, though with not as much technical work on the guitars or keyboards which is a Bodom trademark. In that aspect, the album is somewhat lacking. The production is very good, and as i said, sounds like Follow the Reaper. Alexi still has amazing guitar riffs and solos in the songs, but they just don't seem to be as aggressive and mind blowing like their past few albums. Janne, for some reason, does not have as many keyboard leads either. Normally on past Bodom albums, Alexi and Janne will switch back and forth with their leads creating an amazing blend of musical styling. One would play a solo on one instrument, and then right after they other will take over and play a solo on theirs. On this album however, it is very lacking.
Now I am not saying this album is a bad effort, just the opposite, I like it, enough for four stars. However, as I mentioned above, there is just something......missing.
The album opens up aggresive enough with Needled 24/7, and Angels Don't Kill is a very cool song, sounding similar to Every Time I Die from Follow the Reaper, one of my favorite Bodom songs. The rest of the songs still sound good, though they don't seem to have as many catchy melodies as past Bodom works.
The song names are somewhat lame "sixpounder", "Triple Corpse Hammerblow", and "Lil' Bloodred Ridin' Hood" are pretty horrible names for songs which I can't help but laugh at when I read them. The lyrics are pretty much typical of Bodom, seeming like Alexi just wrote them as an after thought to the music. However, the music is what makes this band, not the lyrics. If it was that way then Bodom would not be the band they are and would be opening for Elton John or worse.
All in all, a good solid album from Children of Bodom, but seeming to have some lacking parts in the song writing such as the terrific blazing leads on guitar by Alexi, and the amazing keyboard leads by Janne Warmen. If you liked Follow the Reaper, you will like this. If you didn't like Follow the Reaper, don't even bother, you would be even more disappointed.
Memorable Songs: Needled 24/7, Sixpounder, Angels don't Kill, Hate Crew Deathroll, Silent Scream
Great expectations, not so great album........2003-04-25
I was expecting for this album since CoB said that it will be published on 7'th january in Finland.
It was very interesting to lesten to what will be after Follow the Reaper (which, by the way an exelent album). I have noticed that evey album is a little bit different from the other. I heard the live performance of Bodom Beach terror, so I was very anxious to hear the rest of the album.
Then'finally'I got to hear the so-long waited album. Needeled 24\7 had a familiar start, but then... The keyboard'which was a very important part of their music simply gone mad. Why on earth they would put a trance in a metal song? Then came the Sixpounder. An average bodom song with elements of trash and brutal metal. Then- Chokehold, a short song, average for a Bodom song. Bodom Beach Terror was the next. In the whole album, it was the only song which didn't dissapoint me. The next one (Angel Don't Kill) is dark and slow, the influence of trash is very noticable. The next ones are not bad songs, but except Hatecrew Death Roll, noone of those made the impression that a great band is playing them.
Generally speaking: a good album, but no match for Hatebreeder. The infictions of brutal metal is very noticable, maybe even too noticable. It would be better if they would stay on course, and won't try to change the style.
Worth buying'but a bitter taste of dissapointment is guarantied.
kind of a let down.......2003-04-23
well i cant say this is the worst cd i have heard, and i cant say its the best. what i can say is its kind of a let down. i was expecting the catchyness of most of their other work. somebody put something in my drink i think is probably the worst bodom song i have heard in a while. some songs are good. your better off dead is one of my more favorite bodom songs. but the cd kind of just lacks something...

Hate Crew Deathroll.......2005-05-24
"WOW" was the first thing that came out of my mouth when i heard the opening track to this masterpiece... "Needled 24/7". The whole cd is just amazing with the solos and riffs and everything. CoB is f*ckin awesome and they continue to put out great albums. I see here that there is supposed to be a bonus track of "silent scream" by slayer but on my cd its not there... i dont know why but its really pissing me off. anyways, great metal, go buy it!
Another amazing CD.......2005-05-11
Just like all their other CD's, it's really something to admire. Everything on the album is well put together, and they never lost the sound that makes them what they are. This album is some of the best metal ive ever heard. So if you are a metal fan, I would without a doubt reccommend it.
blew me away.......2005-02-15
the first time i hear children of bodom was the song needled 24/7 on mtv 2's headbaners ball vol. 2. and let me tell ya, it blew me away. i listened to the song over and over. then i went out and got this cd here, and i was blown away all over again. every song on here kicks ass. i could go through every song, but you'd repeatedly hear the words "awesome" and "sweet" over and over again till it got annoying. this is my first cob album, so ill be checkin out hatebreeder or ftr next. this album is amazing, so buy it. ive heard people say this ones a little poppier than the others, but its still good. if the earlier cob is harder, so i will DEFINATELY be picking some of that up.
ps, try out amon amarth's 'vs the world'. itll make your ears bleed.
Hatecrew .......2004-10-27
when i heard about hatecrew deathroll i was excited to go out and buy it but also wondering if it would be as good as their last album. after i listened to Needled 24/7 my reaction was damn they did it again. the technical guitar skills of Alexi Laiho are just astonishing and they kept the bodom sound alive with the keyboard solo's. Triple Corpse Hammerblow is an awesome fast paced song that i can just listen to over and over again and the melody is incredible. Hatecrew Deathroll would have to be my favorite song on the album, with its pounding riffs and killer vocals Hatecrew Deathroll just blows you away. Hatecrew deathroll is a all out metal assault with thrashing songs while still incorporating the melodic death metal sounds like those from their previous albums.
Powerful Group, Powerful Music, Powerful CD.......2004-04-12
If you're even thinking of getting a metal CD, Hate Crew Deathroll should definitely be one of the first on your list. Children of Bodom have shown in the past that they have amazing skill and now continue to show their skill with this fast pace CD.
The songs in this album are sure to keep you hyped up and energized to raise some hell.
1. Needled 24/7 - 4/5 This song has some good vocals and a very talented part with some sweet guitar skills.
2. Sixpounder - 2/5 This is the only song that I really don't enjoy much when I listen to. The tunes seem somewhat out of place and the vocals aren't that great either.
3. Chokehold (Cocked n' Loaded) - 4/5 Some sweet vocals in this tune. There is also some great guitar tunes throughout the song.
4. Bodom Beach Terror - 5/5 The chorus is an amazing part in this song. With the echo voice in the background, it makes for an amazing effect.
5. Angels Don't Kill - 5/5 A rather slower song, but it still has some awesome vocals and a great chorus.
6. Triple Corpse Hammerblow - 3/5 A pretty loud song, which is the great part of the song. Vocals are average.
7. You're Better Off Dead - 5/5 A sweet tune to listen to over and over. A sweet chorus with killer vocals.
8. Lil' Bloodred Ridin' Hood - 4/5 When you first listen to the song, it might get annoying, but after listening to it over again it begins to sound more impressive.
9. Hate Crew Deathroll - 5/5 The best song on the album, in my opinion. I love the chorus with the background effect again like in Bodom Beach Terror. Also some sweet vocals.
I hope I've encouraged you more to check out this amazing CD and I also encourage you to Follow the Reaper.
