COB from 97-03 were geniuses... it was such a fresh sound

Stick with the first 4 albums.. k thanks bye.

5 out of 5 stars Are you Deaf Yet?.......2007-02-18

I'm not sure I've heard a better metal record in quite a while than this record. While the song are shorter than on previous offerings they're more focused and better written. The playing is superb as always and as far as I can tell this is a transitional record for COB and Alexi in particular. As such some fans of previous works might find this record a sell out, I differ - I believe it is the sign of maturing musicans writing better songs with tighter arrangments. Still Alexi's guitar playing is all over the place with explosive solo's, monster riffs, and tight rhythm playing. Jaska's drumming is mind blowing as is Janne's keyboard work. So enjoy some exceptional modern metal from one of the best bands out there...

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars Are You Dead Yet?.......2006-04-10

Well people, this is Children Of Bodom's fifth album. First of all, I'll begin by saying I love this band. I love the neo-classical riffs, highly melodic speed, and suitably high-pitched death growls. Alas, they've suddenly fallen into the same trap In Flames has, and the quality of their music has gone downhill.

SOUND: Well they've randomly introduced a thrash-like sound, but it doesn't even sound that thrashy, just aggressive hardcore stuff. But then they mix it with the keyboard, which makes the whole sound cheesy. The combined sound does NOT work well at all. It's like they've cut and paste two different songs together.
VOCALS: Alexi's death growls aren't too bad, but they're a bit too "screamy." In a lot of the chorus though, he sings (badly), again making the whole song cheesy. I'd prefer him not to sing, than what he's attempting to do.
LYRICS: Not very good. I've never cared too much for lyrics in melodic death metal music (the wonderful music makes up for it), but this is absurd. Go read the lyrics for "In Your Face" for example.

GOOD SONGS:
"Trashed, Lost & Strung Out" - The best song on the CD. The thrash-like sound actually SOUND like thrash, and it combines well with the melody. It sounds like an old time COB song and has a cool solo
"We're Not Gonna Fall" - Another old sounding COB song. It has a catchy chorus and a good keyboard/guitar solo.
"Living Dead Beat" - I love the introduction, and the consistent tune with the duel-guitar effect. I don't like the chorus very much, but the singing can't be helped. There is a 1min 15-second solo, which starts off with the guitar leading, then the keyboards.
"Somebody Put Something In My Drink" - A pretty hilarious cover of the Ramones song. But the `happiness' of the song seems out of place on this album.

OKAY SONGS:
"Are You Dead Yet" - For being the title track, it's a little disappointing. Although the solo isn't too bad, the rest of the song is filled with repetitive chords and an ANNOYING chorus.
"[...] Of Bodom" - The melody is good in this song, but then combined with the metalcore riffs spoils the song a bit.
"Next In Line" - Quite a forgettable song. The music is quite good this time, but the screaming and ridiculous chorus is irritating. However the keyboard solo is high quality.

BAD SONGS: (by bad I mean not so good for Bodom)
"In Your Face" - Second single and I must comment how AWFUL it is. With atrocious childish lyrics, this song puts COB to shame. Sure it's heavy, but with this song the mix of hardcore and neo-classical fits together like two broken jigsaw pieces. One minute he's screaming to the same distorted riff (played three times!) then he's singing to the most retarded chorus in the album. The only good thing about this song is the drumming.
"If You Want Peace...Prepare For War" - The introduction doesn't even sound like COB, but wouldn't be out of place on a Slipknot album. Although there is some melody the "Slipknot-esque" screams and chugging riffs dominants the whole song.
"Punch Me I Bleed" - The slow approach to this song is just silly. The chugging music is the verse is impractical, and the music to the chorus sounds like heavy power ballad music. I'm not sure what on EARTH he means by "I play the radio in everyway."

It's not worth buying the imported CD for the two bonus tracks. I haven't heard "Talk Dirty To Me" but I have heard "Oops I Did It Again" and...it's not very good. It's still a very good album, but not brilliant, like previous COB albums. Although there is quite a bit of melody, the metalcore sound combined makes the songs sound more mainstream and less like the Godly Gothenburg sound. The songs are watered down in complexity and song structure, as well as the lyrics and solos. Like Anders Frid?n (In Flames vocalist), Alexi Laiho sings in the choruses, but he's not that impressive

4 out of 5 stars HATEBREEDER AND FOLLOW THE REAPER ARE STILL BETTER.......2006-03-31

The follow-up to 2003's 'Hate Crew Deathroll' It is more straight-forward than its predecessor and contanis some industrial elements while retaining COB's trademark sound, including the super-fast guitar and keyboard solos. The import+2 includes a Ramones Cover And Britney Spears Cover "0ops I did it again. But like I said "HATEBREEDER" and "FOLLOW THE REAPER" are still the best.

4 out of 5 stars They still got it.......2006-03-06

I think that this album is not so bad.its not like hatecrew deathroll or FTR but its still nice. Some songs like "Living dead beat" and "if you want peace....prepare for war" are great and sound diffrent but great.Alexi said that this album is going to be diffrent then others and it is.i give four stars because i think that they still got it and are not gonna disappoint us CoB fans with theyr next album.

5 out of 5 stars Good CD ) .......2006-02-24

This is a great album it may not be as technical but it is still a good album. The Songs are good and catchy and having listening to them for 1.5 years I would say that they are not main stream Metal.

3 out of 5 stars Sorrow sweeps the land of Bodom..........2005-11-07

I was so very dissapointed after going through this album!!! For a true COB fan the lack of solos and keyboads just don't cut it! We know and heard what COB can do and this is not even half of it! The songs are SO MUCH LESS technical, it's not even funny how the riffs are much more repetitive; at times sounding like nu-metal ::shivers:: WHAT WERE THEY THINKING!!! I am truly upset how my fav bands such as COB, Soilwork, and Arch Enemy can't seem to deliever anymore! My tip for them : STAY AWAY FROM MAINSTREAM METAL!!! Sadly I only enjoyed three songs in this album and do feel free to downlaod them, for this album is NOT worth buying! ::WEEP::

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars An absolutely astonishing soundtrack.......2002-05-26

Whilest no-one really saw "Human Nature", it was a good movie (in my opinion, I thought it was better than "Being John Malkovich"). Yet, whilest hardly anyone seeing it being a tragedy in itself, what's even more of a tragedy is how no-one will buy the soundtrack, despite the fact that it could possibly be one of the best albums of the year.

The most amazing thing is how the soundtrack jumps from genre to genre logically and with ease. Whilest there are many short orchestral tracks sprinkled throughout, many selections stand out. One of which is "You", which is a wonderful jazz melody. Then, there's the small "Waltzes" that adhere to the title very well. Also, the piano/violin movement "Allegrato in B Flat Major" is just an astonishing piece of work.

Yet, there are still some moments for craziness. Patrica Arquette sings "Hair Everywhere", which comes in both it's version as presented in the film and a danceable remix as well. One additional bonus is quite possibly one of the funniest songs since the Avalanches "Frontier Psychiatrist": "My Name Is Puff", which is a wonderous mish-mash of lines from the movie placed over a funky beat (and don't forget the teen-pop-ish vocals on the chorus ["It's an animal urge, Puff / Nothing to be ashamed of"]). The remix is jiggy as well.

So, whether you have or haven't seen the movie, it's no matter. Just know that the soundtrack is something not to be missed.

5 out of 5 stars Don't underestimate: this may be the best LP all year!.......2002-05-26

This soundtrack is absolutely breathtaking. All soundtracks are made to enhance the film itself; it's a known fact. Yet, there are so many things going on in "Human Nature" (which is an excellent movie by itself), it's hard to believe that one could ignore as much music was placed on this disc.

There are too many pieces to cover. The album masterfully goes over several genres without any sign of exhaustion. From the Patrica Arquette solo "Hair Everywhere" (and it's dance-oriented remix) to the the tender "Here With You", the album is absolutely sprawling. It covers jazz ("You"), politicts ("The Heights of Culture"), and even creepy French interludes ("Fais Do Do"). Other highlights include the nice "Waltzes No.'s 3, 4, 6, 12", the hilarious "My Name Is Puff" (and it's remix), and the breathtaking "Allegretto In B Flat Major".

From funk-pop to classical to jazz to comedy, this is one of the most pleasent surprises I've heard all year. I highly recommend it.

5 out of 5 stars Awesome Swinging Goth.......2004-05-02

This swinging band is one of my favorites. Their songs about death or songs by bands that are considered dead, dead, or should be dead, rock. The upbeat swing music will relax and soothe you while you are serenaded by Necrophilia. If Hell had a lounge band, it would be the Necro Tonz.

5 out of 5 stars Dead lounge band unearthed from the sands of Vegas!.......2001-11-26

.... These dead guys (& ghoul) can really swing. Digging up rock tunes about death or by bands who are dead (and some that should be) and putting the Las Vegas glitz on them is their main modus operandi, but the originals are killer too. Although this was recorded live in some hellish nightclub and is not of perfect quality, the atmosphere and stage banter tend to enhance the Necro Tonz experience. Most notable is "I Love the Dead/Black #1", Necrophilia's beautiful voice will haunt your head for days after just one listen. Also impressive is the theme from M.A.S.H., "Suicide is Painless" which takes on a deeper meaning when sung by this band.
(...)Grab a cocktail and prepare for eternal damnation!

1 out of 5 stars Necro- go back to the cemetary.......2001-11-03

NECRO? sounds more like show tunes, I was looking for Necro, the hiphop artist, when I came across this. I dont know what they're tryin to pull with those song titles, but this is nothing but senior citizens music.

5 out of 5 stars Fire from Lindholm.......2001-11-17

This set contains four records with two abridged live performances. I have as yet only listened to the performance from 1974. This is one of the first pirated records to appear with the Swedish dramatic soprano Berit Lindholm. Let us hope that recordings from the Ring conducted by Sir Colin Davis at Covent Garden will appear soon! Meanwhile this Tristan from Amsterdam 1974 fills the gap with a truly amazing dramatic force. You can feel the amazement and tension among the public, crying out their "bravos" at the end. This is Lindholm's evening and a great one ideed. Totally involved in her part she becomes Isolde and everything catch fire... No Wagnerian or other opera lover can be without these records. The first two CD's concentrates on the part of Isolde (1974).The performance from 1979 (not with Lindholm)concentrates on the tenor, Spas Wenkoff - more comments will follow when I have listened to that. For the moment, the 5 stars are for the 1974 recording.
