You must buy this album ....................2004-04-23
for the track Red Balloon. I love the album, a marriage of bluegrass and jazz, strong songwriting, haunting melodies and of course, Red Balloon. Everytime I hear this piece, I feel like hopping in the car or plane for a long holidy. Some songs do this to you, for me Red Balloon is it!
A Heavenly Marriage of The Banjo and Contemporary Jazz.......2003-08-31
For those of you who are looking for the perfect combination of contemporary jazz and the banjo, then you need to get this CD. Alison Brown and her band give a wonderful performance that is refreshingly upbeat. My only complaint of the CD is that its playing time could've been longer (than 36 minutes, 37 seconds). Still, this is a great CD to have.
WOW! Banjo/Piano/Jazz .... Who Would'a Thought?.......2002-09-03
After hearing a selection from this album on the radio.....I just had to get this album to see what all this was banjo music was all about.... Well, I'll tell you, that this babe can pick!!! Alison Brown and her group blend a sometimes jazzy feeling with piano and other instruments that is surprisingly, refreshing and different...........I loved it!!!!!........all the musicians on this CD really have it together.......Until now, I never heard of her.......Well if she hasn't been discovered by the masses it seems that it will only be a matter of time before someone brings her to the spotlight for everyone to enjoy......Bravo Alison...... I think you may have created a new genre of music...
A New Alison Brown Quartet Fan.......1999-08-27
Being a fan of pop music, I was only introduced to Alison Brown's music just recently by a friend of mine. I enjoyed the CD very much, finding it very relaxing, and musically excellent. My favorite would probably be "The Day Sweeps Back". Great work, Alison!!
Awesome Jazz/banjo cross.......1999-08-07

Capturing a dynamic ensemble on disc is a tricky business--the studio often engenders nitpicky cautiousness, while recording a live show compromises the sound, especially with acoustic music. On Replay, the genre-bending quartet led by banjo master Alison Brown finds a nice alternative approach, revisiting songs from her six previous albums in two days of informal live-in-the-studio performances. The result is a crisp-sounding and loose-limbed set that showcases both the range of Brown's compositions--from swing to Latin jazz to newgrass to chamber pop--and the fluency of the band (John R. Burr on piano, Garry West on bass, and Kendrick Freeman on drums). Along with her fleet, filigreed banjo picking, Brown delivers some hot guitar tracks, playing slinky jazz solos on "Daytime TV" and "The Inspector" and bringing the CD to a sweetly lyrical close on "The Promise of Spring." --Jeffrey Pepper Rodgers

Fine players.......2004-06-16
Where have these guys been all my life? I'm a little slow in catching on sometimes. Good writing, playing and recording, though a little easy listeningish at times for me.
How come acoustic guitar reviews never mention her abilities on the instrument?
Not your father's bluegrass.......2002-11-25
I originally bought this album after hearing a review on NPR. Overall, it's excellent. The album was recorded in only a couple of days, which lends the feeling that it's more like a live performance than a canned recording. Overall, the quartet is *very* tight, and they complement each other perfectly.
There is a good variety of pieces on this album, from more fast-tempo traditional bluegrass style to a couple of lullaby-like ballads. Definitely worth a listen!!
Wonderful mix of Jazz and Bluegrass.......2002-03-06
I am new to Alison Brown's style of music.
But I simply love the light airy sound of
the banjo with the jazz. It is a treat for
the ears.
What an Album.......2002-01-25
i'm fairly new to alison brown's music. i saw her for the first time at telluride last year when she played with the boom chicks. i bought her grammy winning album 'fair weather' and absolutely loved it. a great bluegrass album, by the way, if you're looking for one to add to your collection. a friend told me she had a new one coming out in early 2002 so i bought a copy a few weeks ago. you've got to get this if you don't already have it! just all around awesome acoustic music. it is less 'studio' oriented and more like a live performance in the sense that the band members take solos. you can just tell they are having fun! i think she even plays some killer guitar on a few tracks. alison's playing amazed me in person and it does the same on this disc. i highly suggest getting yourself a copy. help spread the word on her playing. she's really great!
