If you are a Gene Vincent fan or not, this CD is an excellent addition to your 50s/60s rock and roll collection. Many cuts, most U.S and Canadian fans have never heard before, can be found on this compilation and they are the Capitol recordings, when Gene was still at his peak. After listening to this CD you will hopefully conclude that Gene Vincent belongs in the same category as Elvis Presley, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Buddy Holly, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fats Domino and the other great Rock and Rollers we all love. The 50's and 60's Rock lives on.

According to the liner notes, the first volume in this series collected the English EPs, while this volume collected the rarer French EPs, which were released from the early to mid-sixties. American record executives felt that the Europeans would be more willing to buy a 4 song EP of the Ventures, rather than pay for a full length LP. Thus, the European EPs became highly collectible imports in America. All the songs from this era sound great, but the real find is the song "Tarantella." It originally appeared on a very obscure French EP and is making its CD debut here. I highly recommend this collection to all fans of the Ventures.

Long awaited second volume featuring ten more of the hugely influential British Invasion act's early singles, 'Dandy' (France), 'Longtall Sally' (Sweden), 'The Kinks At Drop In (Sweden), En Un Tarde De Sol Pye/Sunny Afternoon (Spain), 'Dedicated Follower Of Fashion' (Francd), 'Till The End Of The Day' (France), 'Mister Pleasant' (France), 'Los Kinks Vol 9' (Mexico), Los Kinks Vol 10' (Mexico) and 'Callejon Sin Salida' (Spain). Each EP comes in a separated slipcase with the original artwork intact. Together they come inside a blue, embossed CD-sized flip-top box with embossed silver lettering. Each copy is individually numbered on the back. 2000 release.

Fine collection of Kinks EPs a little light on rarities.......2000-11-07

Outside of Elvis, The Stones, The Who and the Beatles the Kinks have been repackaged more often than most 60's bands. This has lead to a lot of confusion for fans as to true rarities (such as the yet to reissued Great Lost Kinks Album) vs stuff that is readily available elsewhere.

This boxset of the Kinks EPs is no exception to that confusion. Only one track (She's Got Everything) from this set was missing from the import remasters issued by Castle/Essential Music a couple of years ago. So the big question is if this is worthwhile for the average fan to pick up? Probably not despite the 5 star ranking. It's a great collection with cardbox replicas of a number of rare Kinks EPs. Since this is a limited edition pressing it will probably appeal to long time fans and collectors the most.

The sound quality is terrific. Although the earlier EPs were spotty in quality the latter collections more than made up for it. While I can certainly understand remaining faithful to the original EPs, it would have been nice to see a bit more in the way of live tracks or studio outtakes from the same time frame. These additions would have made this pricey a worthwhile addition to even the average Kinks fan's collection.
